I moved to the island July 1st 2012 pretty instantly got a job at a sub shop down the road a ways from Sack O's. I hadn't heard great things about this shop, which lead me to steer clear of it until today,  when I gave in and finally took the leap of faith with my fiance.

Walking into Sack O's was nothing out of the ordinary... It's a decent sized place, booth seats and a lunch bar to sit at. The menu is posted above the bar, it's a bit old fashioned but straight to the point and easy to read.

The girls at the counter didn't say anything to us immediately, I assumed they were busy.

After sitting down at one of the booths it was less than a minute before we were approached by a cute young girl inquiring what we'd like to drink, from there we proceeded to order the smaller portion of fries on the menu and a cheese steak to split between the two of us.

The wait wasn't too terrible, and when the food came there was PLENTY of it!.. Everything was hot and made to order....
I think I may have been on the fence about the taste of the meat stuffed into my cheese steak but I won't write off the shop completely on that little piece alone...

It was quiet as there weren't many people in the shop, the young girl who had waited on us seemed to be busy  chatting with a friend in the shop, but it wasn't an annoyance, as she was prompt about the business and carried a pleasant demeanor.

My overall first time Sack O's experience was A-OK... I'll ante up the star count on my next visit... When I update this review. Can't honestly give 5 stars until I've tried something more than 1 item from the menu.

Thanks Sack O's! We WILL be back!

This is a top 5 sub shop for me (along with Dinics in Philly, Schwartz's Deli in Montreal, and Primanti's in Pittsburgh....their bread is outstanding and the food tastes amazing all around....I have the subs Fed Exed to me sometimes (even once when I lived in Boise Idaho).  Great crushed peppers as well.

I gave this location a second try tonight after a disappointing first visit a few months back . & may I add that I originally left the house to go to Bubbies (one block down) - I wish I did .
Similar to the first time we were semi ignored upon arrival , sat down at the bar counter and waiting for the young girl to finally approach us . After that whole deal we were finally able to order . I ordered two sides as my meal - the menu says sides come with two sauces included . After finishing the two sauces she gave me I requested two more as the menu stated I get . Upon receipt of the bill I saw that I was charged for two sauces and hot sauce - fine . I asked the little girl about it she left and came back saying onion rings don't come with sauce - even though it clearly says it should . Fine - not coming back . Horrible service and the sauce issue . But being a server , I was still going to tip . After my husband signed the merchant copy I took it & went to write in the tip . The girl like takes the slip as I'm trying to write on it - I'm like wow okay you don't want a tip!? I went to speak to whomever was on charge - a young guy who clearly didn't care much & he had no answer , and a insincere "sorry" .
Now I would hate to think that I get terrible service in here because I'm ethnic - but I must say everyone else seemed to be treated pretty darn nice . & my husband pointed out that we never see anyone ethnic there , we pass this place daily .
They will never get my hard earned money  again & I will make sure no one I know goes to this place .
Also the food is not that freaking good . Maybe these other reviewers don't get out much . First time had a chicken cheesesteak which I could've got better made from wawa across the street . This time my husband got a chicken Caesar salad sub , I tried it & was not impressed .
Much better food in the area .

No frills, friendly service and some of the best hoagies and cheesesteaks you'll ever have while at the shore.

Come early at lunchtime or call for delivery to the beach, either way, your trip to the shore won't be complete without eating at Sack O'subs.

They take credit cards, so no worries.  And don't forget your tastykake for dessert.

Amongst the locals of Ventnor and Margate, the debate always comes down to whether Sacko's or Dino's has the best subs around. At Sacko's (and Dino's) they use only the best freshly-baked bread from Formica's Bakery, and it gives their subs an extra something that is hard to find elsewhere.

Being a Ventnor local and long time patron of Sacko's, I have to say that I am biased, but I think Sacko's is better overall. I must admit that I have had some hot subs at Dino's, such as the Chicken Cheese-steak, that may have tipped the scale in their favor; however, the cold subs at Dino's fall flat and I think this shortcoming is what gives Sacko's the overall victory.

The place has been there forever; it has a divey kind of dilapidated diner feel that makes it an endearing and enduring local hot spot. While Subs are the seller at Sacko's, and I would never think to go there for pasta or salad, they do also make great burgers and fries, and you will likely be satisfied with any greasy or fried item on the menu.

This food is perfect for a picnic at the beach or an All-American lunch or dinner. I have been going to Sacko's since I was a little kid and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon.

Hour and a half to deliver a tuna hoagie.  This place no longer cares about pleasing it's customers.  After many sub-par sandwiches over the last couple years I can truly say I am done with this place.  Would rather give my money to another place.

Best cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks!   I love the bread they use here and the sharp provolone.

Take out order completely wrong.  Ordered turkey hoagie dry (meaning no oil or mayo) and received turkey on roll.  Nothing else.  Bread wasn't hollowed out.  No comparison at all to White House.

The Italian club was better than White House Subs......

My wife and I have been going there for the last few years, and I have been going there for nearly 20.  The absolute best in town, and surpasses Dino's by a mile..PLUS the people there are great and friendly.  We live full time in Virginia, but just bought a beach home in Ventnor.  Sack O's will be seeing a lot more of us!  Whenever we come to AC, our first stop is Sack O's!

Great hoagies! They are huge and the half is enough for 2 meals for me. They are always packed, so be prepared to wait.

the cheese steaks comes with lots of cheese.  the subs are stuffed with lots of meat.  the bread is delicious...crusty on the outside and soft on the inside.  and the meat tastes fresh.

the best best part about sack o'subs are the prices.  half a sub is about $6-7 and a whole sub is about $11-13.  i think the half sub is pretty big and the whole sub is just crazy!  we're able to feed 3-4 adults with the whole sub.

    overall, great value.  delicious sub!

Great in it's own respect. It's the bread selling the sandwich. It's literally exactly the same place as Dino's in Margate. Sandwich for sandwich the same preparation from the bread out. Nothing is loaded loaded with meat. The steaks are skimpy skimp. I love the tuna subs. They are officially unique. I like a regular. That's great. It's not about the tuna with mayo or thick slabs of low quality lunchmeat, it's about the taste of the roll, and how it carries the sub.

One of the best hoagie places, period.  Great meats, great bread - you can't miss with any of the dozens of hoagie combos although the regular Italian's terrific.  There are also steak sandwiches (chicken or meat), burgers, sandwiches and veggie options but it's almost always a hoagie order coming out.  The half size is decent-sized; the whole is about the length from your elbow to fingertips.

They use Formica Bakery bread, which is considered the world's definitive hoagie roll (made locally and sold retail at Formica's 2 area bakeries and some area markets such as Casel's).  Someone else who posted here criticized the bread as particularly chewy but that's how it's meant to be.  There are 2 schools of thought as to what makes the ideal hoagie roll:  1 worships Formica's thin chewy version with its pale, dull, dusty crust while others prefer the more rounded, fluffier, shiny-crusted version such as Aversa's (also local).  These others are good, particularly Aversa's, but if you're a hoagie purist, it's Formica's.

Enough hoagie bread philosophy.  Sack O has very limited seating  - maybe a dozen booths - but it always seems like the majority of orders are takeout (tip:  call in first if you can; menu's online - ordering there and waiting is quick enough but you can make it simpler).  Stardard beverage choices (fountain drinks, bottled drinks) and sides are fries or onion rings.   The regular size fries as a side can easily feed 2 very hungry people.  Also, a single order of sweet peppers for your hoagie - an annoyance that they charge extra for it - can easily fill 2 sandwiches.

Only complaints:  orders occasionally get mixed up/overlooked but that's mostly in the summer when it's pretty crazy busy; the folks who work there are great and it's amazing how they manage with all the madness.  Also, last weekend, I violated the tradition I've observed as a 30-yr Sack O customer and declined a hoagie to finally get a pizza steak.  And wasn't in love with it.  But I could certainly date it again.

My friends come here ritualistically every year, and feel it is the best cheese steak anywhere (and they are originally from Philly).  I feel like it is darn tooting good, but that I have had better in Philly.

This location has become a ritualistic visitation for my friends and I as soon as we hit AC. The fact that we plan our trip to include this stop for grub tells me something is hitting the nail on the head. (now that I am thinking about it, I am starting to reevaluate my purpose in life.) Anyway, this place makes damn good sandwiches. If you get a whole, be prepared to have some leftovers for the next day. Or late night if you're going to the casinos and plan on returning to the room for drunk munchies. Hate it or love it, you know my call.

Nearly as good as white house without the lines.  I haven't been to this location, but I remember going to a location in Ocean City which wasn't listed on the site.

I lowered my star rating. The bread is difficult to chew and the sandwich itself is not what it used to be. Also, the wait staff tends to get an order wrong on the take outs. This happened 3 straight times ordering.

    Fair Sandwiches at best!

If you don't have the chance to grab a White House sub, this is the next best thing. They use the bread from the local AC Formica Bakery. That's what makes the sandwich. They made other Sack O'subs chains, they are OK, but nothing like the Original Sack O's in Ventnor.
