How can I be fair when it comes to rating this place. By Omaha standards, Saigon Surface is a great place to find the closest to Vietnamese cuisine that one can get. The decor is very modern, and even have an iPad at each table ( I guess it's great for first dates when conversations get awkward? ) Seeing that most places in the bay area encourage unplugging from the technological world to enjoy some human interaction it was a bit weird.. but then again.. I am in Omaha.
Food: Sister ordered the oxtail soup ( which we thought had oxtail in the Pho bowl) but nope it's just Pho made with oxtail in the big broth pot in the kitchen and the bowl of pho is just pho. (beef noodles for those that do not know what Pho is). I ordered the combo vermicelli noodles (bbq meat and shrimp with veggies and cold vermicelli noodles). Taste was passable and portion was good. Weird thing to note My sister wanted a little extra broth to add to her bowl of pho which was lacking a little bit of soup... shouldn't be a big deal right? they wanted $3 for a little extra broth? really?!
Service: okay-- was it excellent? not really. was it the worst I've experience? no.. can't say that either. it was decent got my order, got my food type of service.
4 stars for decor/ iPad.
3 stars for food /taste/portion
