Very good!  LOVE the burgers!  especially if you ask for it med rare.  Great soups too. Very large crab cakes and full of flavor.  Not crazy about the "picnic style" tables outside.  With prices like that, I'd like to have comfortable seat to sit back in and enjoy myself.

B and I were craving a burger and decided to head into downtown Apex for a bite.

They have a decent assortment of local brews on tap and I started with a Hoppyum from Foothills, and followed it with a Shotgun Betty from Lonerider.   I would like to see them offer some additional bottle selections from local breweries or expand their taps to more than 8.

We started with some wings - Teri-Hot for half and Hot for the other half. Well cooked and well seasoned. The teri-hot had just the right amount of salt and sweet with a good amount of heat.  Not overly hot, but enough to let you know there was a bit more in the teriyaki sauce. The hot was your standard hot sauce.

I had the Patty Melt on texas toast with french fries.  Good meat, cooked perfectly to my order of med-rare.  The only thing the burger was lacking was salt and pepper.  If the patty was seasoned a bit more it would have skyrocketed the flavors of the melt.  Good value for the quantity and quality.

Renee was our server and did a great job of checking on us, our drinks and our food.

We've been there before, and we'll be back.

When I think of a local watering hole that serves up a smattering of decent pub grub and decent convo, I think of none other than the good ol' SSP.  Since arriving on North Carolina I can't think of another place I've visited, that provides a feeling of comfort as the SSP does.

Great wings/sticks, decent selection of beer and good convo. The place is always packed but the service is always good. We've tried their competitors next door and across the street and have run for the hills on both occasions. I'll stick to what works. SSP baby!!

One of my favorite places around! I love this place! The food is always fantastic and the service is friendly and personal. I've never been disappointed! Be sure to try the Patty Melt! YUM!
My only complaint is the nacho sauce they use for the cheese fries. These would be REALLY awesome with some real cheese melted on them!

I always love the food here, and the atmosphere is fun. Live music on Friday evenings is a great addition to an evening out. A great place for everyone - families, singles, young or old. It's hard to pull of a place that pleases everyone, but they've done it. We always take our out of town guests and they go home talking about how neat it is that we have such a neat place so close by.

My husband and I absolutely love to go to this restaurant  on a Sunday afternoon.  On Sunday's we always have great service and good food.  Unfortunately, we decided to stop by on a Saturday night with a group of friends in from out of town.  The absolutely worst part of the night was the bar service.  No drink menu, a surly/rude bartender and weak drinks.  My cosmopolitan was straight cranberry juice not even a hint of vodka.  This is a great place for a burger and beer, but nothing else!

3 years since my initial review and they are still going strong. Every time I've been in there (which tends to be weekend lunch hours) they seem busy. I've stuck with the Patty Melt for every visit but have tried others dishes and enjoy them as well.

They are still being stubborn with the music though, they have Christmas music playing now (post Thanksgiving) and I was subjected to the Chipmunks Christmas song... that has no place in a restaurant. :)

My first review on Yelp... and it's because of the Patty Melt,  it is absolutely the best burger I've had in the area.  The wings and everything else are good too.  The wait staff is great so if you haven't tried it you need to check it out!

Slow service, colder food.  Don't waste your time, go somewhere else.

We had been here when they first opened and were very disappointed.  We decided to try it again for date night based on the higher reviews lately.  I'm still disappointed that we did, and likely won't be back.

25 minutes to get an appetizer? Ordered the sliders and buffalo fries in lieu of a meal, so obviously they thought they could wait to bring it out.   The sliders were cold and at least one of them was pink, even though they were less than 1/4" thick. The pretzel rolls were tasty but I've had better at McDonald's (which I hate) when put together.  The fries were just as cold and even more boring.

We also had a to-go order, and that took 20 minutes.  I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad that it was faster than the apps.  It hasn't even been eaten yet, but I can't see how it could possibly raise the rating.

The only good thing I can say is that they serve local NC draft beers, and they were on special for $3.50.  Although they were mixed up when they came out, I was able to figure out who's was who's.  There were only 2 beers, get them right please?  They also started some live music just before we were leaving, which was nice, but not enough to keep us there after everything else.

Update, the to-go was apparently good but I see no reason to up the rating.

Loves going to the Pub, but lately things have been a bit off. Service has been a challenge and it seems like they may have a new chef. As the food is definitely not what it once was. We will be back, but going to give it a break for the winter and see how things are in a few months

After reading all of the great reviews,I  was eager to try the Salem Street pub.  Our visit got off to a bit of a rocky start. We arrived with our 2 teenage kids and put our name on the list for a table. There were 4 empty seats at the bar so we went and sat down to get a drink while we waiting. One of the 2 bartenders immediately rushed over and informed us that anyone under 21 can't sit a the bar. Not sure if this is a state law or something, but I thought she could've been friendlier about it. Then we were ignored for quite awhile. When the other bar tender came over to take our order though, she was extremely friendly. Since i don't like beer and this a place that has only a house wine I went with a top shelf margarita. I thought this would be the safe choice, but I was wrong. It was the worst margarita I've ever had. It tasted like lime and like it had no alcohol In it at all. I had them add a little oj but it didn't help.

Once we got our table we had very good and very friendly service. We all got a different kind of burger and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their burgers. The default is medium well, we asked them to make it as rare as they can (which was medium), but it was pink and juicy and delicious. I had the Carolina burger which by default has raw onions, but they had no problem subbing in sautéed onions. The chili and slaw were both delicious and the hand cut fries were hot and crispy and very good.  We will definitely be back, just don't  order a margarita!

I am still wondering why anyone would eat here. The owners are beyond rude.  Not once in the history of the world have they thanked a customer.  In this location, they have a limitless supply of customers, so they don't care if they are nice or not.  This being said, I have to admit the food is above average for bar food.  They have a good reputation for their burgers, and the location is fantastic (down Apex).

Great food...okay service.  Greatly enjoyed my buffalo chicken sandwich (grilled, so you get the yum without the grease) and the fresh cut fries.  My dining companion had a greek burger...I'm not sure I'd like olives on a burger, but to each their own.  A nice selection of microbrews, mostly local from what I could tell.  If only our waitress could keep up.  Waited entirely too long for her to stop over (nearly 15 minutes), and while our food came quickly, it arrived without any silverware or napkins.  And then the check was slow.  Oh well, it's a quiet enough, cozy enough neighborhood pub.  I would still go back.

This is my family's regular go to restaurant when we are in the mood for good inexpensive pub food and local beer. Husband loves their burgers, wraps, and the hot wings. They are not breaded, fried crisp, and they are actually hot, which is usually not the case. They have great homemade soups and delicious desserts. Tonight we were offered a fudge brownie topped with ice cream at no charge, which was a promotion this week. Well who can turn that down? Yum. My favorite was the buffalo chicken wrap with blue cheese and now as a vegetarian, I love the black bean burger that is made in house. They could use one or two more vegetarian choices, as I have seen a trend in this direction, but I can mix it up with the burger toppings. I have never had bad service and everyone is super friendly. It does get busy during the peak times, but I never feel neglected. This is a wonderful inexpensive dining choice in downtown Apex.

Food and service was great. Atmosphere was cozy. Just a nice little neighborhood place to go and have a great burger, drink, and sit with friends and family at a reasonable price.

Salem Street Pub is one of my family's favorite places to eat in Apex!  The staff is always super friendly and attentive and make it a point to make you feel "at home" while there.  Their burgers are always amazing and for $8.99, you can choose any 3 toppings you want and it comes with their fresh, hand-cut fries.  My husband always  gets the patty melt and says it's one of the best patty melts he's ever had.  Get there when it's not busy and try to grab one of the tables by the window.  Or when it's warm, the tables outside are a nice option (unfortunately, there's only a room for a couple of tables on the sidewalk).  Definitely a solid 5 stars for the food, service, location, and price!

I didn't even know Apex had a "downtown". A few shops and restaurants. Read some positive reviews about this place and needed to give it a try. Easily found a spot on the st and nearly walked past this place. The sign outside gave it away "Best Burgers Around". Inside, the place is a mix between a diner/bar. It's unique to what I have been used to in the area. Looking over the menu they have a lot of burger selections (a few I have not seen). I opted for the Greek burger (kalamata olives, feta cheese, red onions and greek sauce)...very good! It actually went well with the burger. Burger was cooked like I wanted it. The entire concoction didn't fall apart or come out when I took a bite. Every bite was a perfect combo of all the toppings.  The bun was solid and held everything up. Their fries were average. The bartender/waitress was super nice and helpful and funny to boot! TV's around to catch some games but the place isn't very big. I was little bummed they didn't accept AMEX but well worth a 2nd trip...or 3rd.

These are some damn fine burgers and tasty fries, too. Nothing fancy, just good burgers and sandwiches. One big gripe:  the cheese fries come with nacho cheese sauce.  Nacho cheese sauce is evil and vile. Why, why would you ever use this on anything?  Ditch the cheese sauce for actual, shredded cheddar cheese, and I could award another star. Until then, 3 is all you get.

Nice little pub.  Great location & friendly staff.  The burgers are all great - up to and including the "my wife said this wouldn't sell" (peanutbutter, bacon, cheese, etc...) sounds crazy, but it works.

Great neighborhood place to get a beer & burger and hang out with friends.  Do it.

My husband and I enjoy coming to the Salem Street Pub because the staff are very nice and the food is fresh, hot, and always good. They have many different choices you can pick from for toppings on your burger. You can choose from a black bean burger, beef, or chicken. Then you can choose the toppings you want. Their french fries and onion rings are all homemade.
The only downside is that it is usually busy and understaffed, so the service is slow. However, it is worth the wait. They usually have live music on the weekends, which makes the wait more enjoyable.

My friends and I visit this restaurant all the time, it's a great place.  The french fries and wings are the best around!!

It's a very relaxed atmosphere, and the staff is really nice.  Love the outdoor seating.

Stopped in here to see a friend perform but decided to come a little early and grab dinner first. This was my first time in Apex and it is A-dorable. This place was hopping! Lots of families, couples, friends -- it seems like a real neighborhood joint.

We were quickly seated and waited on by a nice young lady. I decided to go for it and got the beef patty melt since they claim it's the best ever, or something like that. It was darn good! It really hit the spot - flavorful, juicy, and Texas toast to boot, yum! The fries were nice, too. I wasn't drinking that night, but they seem to have an alright selection of beers.

One thing that was kind of lame is that they have ONE dessert to offer. It was some kind of banana chimi type deal. It was probably frozen. It was still tasty, but I should have just skipped it and gone to the one or two ice cream shops next door.

I'll definitely come back again, I am pretty curious about that burger with peanut butter, not gonna lie.

I have been back two more times. On all three of my visits, during lunch, they only had one server working--taking care of all the tables inside and outside. Enough said. I really like this restaurant, but clearly I didn't happen to just go on a day where they were understaffed. Three times... I hope that the owners will add more servers for lunch. One person taking care of 15 tables is ridiculous--especially during the lunch hour when people often need to get in and out quickly.

Love Salem St Pub, they make an amazing Black Bean burger, home made in house. As a vegetarian it's tough to find good burger joints, my husband and son love a good burger and thank goodness at Salem Street Pub I don't have to settle for a side salad. They have also made a great grilled cheese for me on Texas toast.
Their fries are very good and they also have a full service bar. My husband loves their burgers, which you can order off the menu or custom build with a long list of toppings, the chipolte ranch dressing is amazing on the black bean burger.
We really enjoy the atmosphere of this place as well, but if you have a party of more than 4 you may have a bit of a wait on a weekend night. It is a popular local hang out so expect to wait a few minutes during peak evening hours.

The burger had the most interesting mélange of components: a half-pound of beef (normal), cheddar cheese (standard), bacon (typical), peanut butter (huh?), and honey (what the?!). I was a moth to the flame. Peanut butter on a burger? I could barely wrap my brain around the concept.

The beef was handmade and was perfectly cooked. The bacon was chopped into the melted cheddar, which was different but pleasant. The peanut butter was liberally spread on the patty, as was the honey.

I had my doubts at first, but I must say that I loved it. The peanut butter was warm and added an unusual texture and flavor to the experience. The bacon was crunchy and salty, which was cut with just enough honey-sweetness. I could taste each ingredient in every bite, the mark of fine burger architecture.

    Downtown Apex... yeahhh!

I ended up at the Pub on a Wednesday night, which coincidentally was trivia night (starting at 8pm). I had just eaten a burger the night before, so I opted for the buffalo chicken wrap. Unfortunately, it was probably the worst buffalo wrap I've had in a long time. It tasted like those pre-made ones you get at gas stations. The fries were good, though.

The beer selection is pretty good and I enjoyed a couple of Red Oaks (the Wed. night special). The wings were very good--but in typical NC fashion the "hot wings" did not live up to my heatseeking expectations.

I love the atmosphere of this place. If I lived in Apex, I'd totally be a regular here. There are plenty of HDTVs and stools at the bar.

Unfortunately, our waitress kind of forgot about us toward the end of the evening. We didn't get our check until we managed to flag her down 5-10 minutes after trivia ended. Everyone else in the dining area got their checks, so it must have been some sort of conspiracy. Maybe the waitress hates tall people, or she saw my Red Sox front license plate and is a die-hard Yankee fan. Who knows.

Next time I come back, I'm trying one of the burgers everyone here is talking about.

Salem pub is a great place to have good solid bar food, fantastic beer, friendly service, and a welcoming place to watch our Tar Heels :). They even have a surprisingly delicious bean and rice burger for vegetarians like my husband. The wings are tasty, and I love their choice of burgers (and the fact you can sub a chx breast or bean and rice burger). The ladies that work there are all super sweet, too. Great neighborhood addition!

The Salem Street pub is located on Salem Street in the Heart of Apex.  It a  great little place in an historic building.  The food is Good, the beer is above average and the wait staff nice.  Some of the food I have had that is good include the greek wrap, the buffalo chicken sandwich and the buffalo wrap.  All were very good.  The only knock, cheap ketchup.

Some of the best pub food I've ever encountered, and the wait staff is always super friendly.  Even if you're not a vegetarian, try the black bean patty they have as an option for their burgers.  I always get the "Spicy Burger" with the black bean patty, and it's unreal.

I agree with the other reviewers, the prices are good and the burgers are great.  You can get any of their burgers as a chicken sandwich as well, which is a nice option.  The also have a nice selection of NC beers on tap.

My only complaint: Salem Street Pub is not open on Mondays.
