Salerno's Pizza

FYI I have been ordering their pizza for YEARS. Was very good. Salarno's Pizza in Berwyn is no longer. The phone number is answered by another place called  Brando's Beef and Pizzaria. It is located  around the corner. They assured us that  they have the Salarno's pizza. We ordered it. IT WAS TERRIBLE. I would not call the Salarno's phone number again It is not the same pizza at all. I have no idea what happened to the original Arnies pizza. I am sorry to see i gone. The only good pizza I have had in years.

What gives?  Came for pizza last weekend and the place is "CLOSED FOR REMODELING".  There was, however, no activity going on inside and I have a sneaking suspicion it may never reopen....  This is very, very sad for anyone who grew up in Cicero or Berwyn since this was the last of its kind in the neighborhood.  Guess I'm going to have to check out Salerno's on the Fox which is rumored to still use the original 1966 recipe!

Horrid.  What a waste of $20 and 2 hours.

Ordered delivery here this afternoon, around 1:45pm.  I was told 35 minutes, which I thought was impressive.  When I called to check in after it hadn't arrived after 60 minutes, I was told that it was not yet ready.  Huh?  Then miraculously, it appeared in about 15 minutes.  Read:  it had been sitting there.

Until today, I've never encountered a pizza that I found inedible.  I'll wince my way through an awful Papa John's or random food club frozen brand if it's available at a party.  

I threw the entire Salerno's order out.

The pizza had an odd, perhaps rotten, taste like too much salt and old cheese [shudder, gag]  

They don't even cut the pizza in squares.  This is far from authentic Chicago thin crust.

The mozzarella sticks had obviously been sitting out, and then perhaps re-fried.  Half arrived as empty fried tubes - no cheese.  The others had some cheese that took up about 1/4 of an otherwise empty fried tube.

I think the delivery driver had an inkling that she was handing over a bad meal, as she gave me back my tip.

What a disappointment.  Perhaps I caught them on a bad day, as there are other positive reviews here, which led me to call in the first place.  Don't make the same mistake that I did.
