This location is newer but my hubby and I cannot stay away already. Â the staff is the nicest and the food is consistently great! Clean, well portioned meals and awesome outdoor area! Â This summer I hosted a bday party for my dad and they were so accommodating. Â My dad even got serenaded by the Italian band!
Review Source:I feel like this place was "opening" for a long time. I finally made it in and was impressed at the quaintness of the place.
I ponyed up to the bar and got a beer and a sandwich. Â It was ok. Flavors were pretty muted and I could have had a more Italian flavor on the menu in general.
The staff was amazing which really elevated the rating especially the bartender.
Love the food! long wait to be greeted when we first walked in, while many staff member looked at us no one said hello or someone will be right with you, we actually almost turned around and walked out. Atmosphere was nice, except for the lady who stares at you while you eat! I guess she is the owner, but she made us very uncomfortable! Otherwise this would be a romantic place for a date but she adds an awkward third wheel!
Review Source:We chose between a middle eastern place and the newer Salvatore Scallopini on Southfield Road. We had been to other Salvatore Scallopinis, such as the one on Miller Road in Flint, which was big and open. This Salvatore Scallopini's is in a remodeled Coffee Beanery, long-since shut down. They did a good job remodeling it, but the restaurant is tiny. Don't bring small kids or groups larger than 4-5.
We went on a Thursday evening, but it was prior to a holiday. We arrived around 7:45, and the dinner rush was in full force. My sister-in-law had a 9-month-old, and there was my mother-in-law, her boyfriend, my husband and myself. They said they weren't going to do reservations, but seemed put out when we arrived with a party of five and a baby. We tried to stand in the front and the hostess not-so-subtly tried to get us to go by the bar, finally repeating herself five times, louder each time, until we complied. Unfortunately she didn't realize that not everyone could fit well over there, even though my sister-in-law took the baby carrier back to the car. My husband squeezed his small frame by the wall and I shoved in beside him, but we still couldn't fit. The bartender was then seemingly irritated that only one of us was going to order alcohol. Â They really need a heated lobby with additional seating! We waited about 30 minutes to get a table for five people and one baby (held on a lap). They seated us just as we were getting ready to leave to go to the middle eastern place.
The initial time at the restaurant was a disappointment, but the waitress was very sweet and the food was excellent. We all had different items from chicken breasts to eggplant parmigiana, and nobody was disappointed at the quality. The dessert tray also had several options and both the tiramisu and cannoli were delicious.
While the food and service were very good overall, the initial experience was a downer. I will certainly return to the location, but at a lighter time (say, Monday evening around 8 p.m.). I most definitely wouldn't be going with more than 2 people!
Very good service (server was pregnant too!)
Small location, wierd lay-out.
Has a bar with TV. Are you a decent restaurant or a bar. Pick one, or get a larger space that you can run both out of.
The pasta was burned and over salted, I thought.
The red sauce was too sweet.
Gnocci were fare, but not great.
It smacked of a single comessarry like Andiamo's.
They may make all their own stuff, but they do so in a single kitchen, freeze it and ship it out to their numerous locations accross metro detroit.
This may be a case of a business growing beyond it's intended size / owners abilities.
Sad, it was one of the few italian places I would actually go and cheaper than the others too!
I've seen the various locations around the metro area and always thought it seemed like a good place to eat, but never tried it. I also had the impression that it wasn't a very fancy place (I equated it to Sila's in Berkley). Â Then the latest location in Lathrup Village opened recently and husband, baby and I decided to check it out.
I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in, nothing like what I had imagined in my head. It is definitely more upscale, but still casual enough where we didn't feel out of place in jeans and a 9 month old baby in tow. Â They have a lot of menus, I think there were 4 or 5 - the main menu, wine list, drink list ($5 martinis!!), and two different specials menus. That was a lot of reading to do. Â The main menu has all the traditional Italian fare. I got the Pasta Fresca, which was delicious. It came with soup or salad, I got minestrone which was a little different than minestrone I'm used to. I think it was creamier, but very tasty. The waitress brought us bread with a plate of olive oil with marinara sauce in the middle of it. I had wished the bread or sauce was warm though.
The staff was friendly, especially the hostess who kept saying how cute our daughter was, so obviously that scores bonus points with me. Â The food was reasonably priced, maybe $10-14 per entree. Â Their beer list was good, I had a Bell's Oktoberfest and my husband had a Goose Island 312. Â I will definitely have to check out the $5 martinis next time I go.
