christine S and I have tried many times to enjoy tom's. i had heard people speak very well of the ramshackle bar on 7 mile. little did we know that the patrons park at the bank next door. if you pull up, there are no lights, no action happening inside that you can tell. so we always drove off thinking it was closed.
thank god for one sunday night when we interupted a euchre game. it was kinda a private party we crashed, but the owner and everyone else was very nice.
since then i've been a couple more times and have enjoyed the cheap cocktails, slanted bar, frodo hobbit like interior and the piano.
seriously the cocktails are super cheap and the owner often cooks random things to eat. he also drinks right along with you and has a great time. this isn't a dive, its more like a living room with an awesome bartender and some stinky toilets with awesome grafitti.
tom's is always a good idea. open wed-sat and sometimes sunday. bring cash and some smiles.
    love, juston

I have been trying to go to this bar for ages-it seemed everytime we would drive by, there would never be cars in the parking lot so we assumed it was closed. FINALLY I got to experience Toms. Random Sunday last week we drove by and there were cars. Yes! We got in. The interior is far different from the exterior. I was pleasantly surprised. Ron, the owner was hilarious and very welcoming. We sat at the oddly slanted bar, had a couple of beers, and sampled the food that was sitting on the counter. Ron as well as some of the patrons were interested in where we were coming from, how did we hear about the place, etc. Very friendly and chatty. I can't wait to come back to visit again. Yippee!

I was introduced to Tom's Tavern in the mid 90's after attending a U of D reunion down the road. Since then I have shot portions of a short film there. Ron plays a mean bartender and made a short documentary about the bar. There is NO place like Tom's Tavern, any where. It defies classification, it's not a dive bar it simply is Tom's.

I just left the St. Patricks Day party at Tom's I'm all warm and fuzzy (no it's not the beer). The place was filled with old timers, hipsters and regular Joe's. I will never give another bar my heart because Tom's Tavern stole it ages ago. Ca$h Only
