We live within a couple of miles of this restaurant and had no idea that it was a Vietnamese Restaurant until a couple of weeks ago!
My husband & I had dinner there last night and were very pleasantly surprised. Our meals were excellently presented, delicious and reasonably priced! Â
We started by sharing the Vegetable Spring Rolls....fantastic! For our main meal my husband chose Kung Pao Shrimp (Stir fried with onion, dry chili pepper, celery, water chestnuts and peanuts) and I had the Curry Chicken (Chicken breast cooked with fish sauce, lemongrass, potatoes and sweet potatoes).
If you enjoy Vietnamese food we can thoroughly recommend this wonderful restaurant. If you have never had Vietnamese food before, then you should definitely try it at Sandra's. You won't be disappointed!

I joined the International Supper Club with my daughter on my first visit to Sandra Rice and Noodles. Â Alex hosts some really great dinners, and I really really wanted to like it, but outside of the 'experience and dynamic company', I just can't say that I did. Â
Dinner was supposed to start at 7, and although we were a little late, we didn't get food until close to 8pm. Â By that time, most of us had only water and were starved. Â Our first 'dish' served was a fish with bones in served 'family style' that was supposed to feed about 10 of us. Â Perhaps this works in Bible stories, but not under these circumstances. Â Our next dish served was a platter of crab, too small to get anything out of it and too messy without the assistance of anything to crack the shell or pick out the meat. Â What little bits I got were good.
Next came the rice and noodles, and then vegetables with mint. Â Most of this was to go in a pot for us to cook with fish and shrimp. Â I ate what we had, but can't say that I loved any of it. Â It was messy, a lot of work and pretty salty.
In their defense, we were served 'off the menu', so I'm not sure it was a good representation of their offerings. Â The owner was very nice and the conversation in our group was good. Â I had fun sharing the experience with my teen, with a different country being represented with each face around our table. Â
I will have to go back and order from the menu and will update at that time.
I liked the restaurant. The server was nice and friendly. I do agree with other reviews about the service being a bit slow. We didn't mind though. I didn't feel like they were being rude.
I got the beef pho. It was my first time having beef pho. I loved it. I made mine super spicy and it had such great flavor. However my husband hated it. Turns out he just doesn't like beef pho no matter where it's from.
My husband got the peppered beef. He really liked it. He doesn't like to venture too far from the common Chinese food so he was happy.
I would definitely not mind going here again
Excellent Pho Bo. I added meatballs and without a doubt they were the best meatballs I've found in the indy area. Broth was incredibly good and unlike some restaurants that use huge quantities of rice noodles to minimize the broth, this was an excellent balance of noodle to broth ratio.
The Cha Gio (fried spring rolls) were delicious as well.
The lady who served me was very friendly and suggested that I learn about some yelp food club that eats there frequently. I'll look into that. She said she'd be happy to make things off menu if I let her know in advance... very accommodating.
I have only one complaint that probably applies only to me: the napkins are obviously washed at home and with some sort of scented fabric softener or detergent. Smells like that drive me nuts while eating. I'm probably just weird.
Now if this was only closer to my house, I'd eat here several times a week.
I'm the Duke of this place and I haven't reviewed it? Â WTF? Â So here goes. Â Without a doubt, this is the best Vietnamese food in the Indy metro area. Â But I would go so far as to say this is the best asian food period.
It is a small place and they have a limited staff, but they work hard and you end up with a great dining experience. Â I eat lunch hear at least 3 times a month. Â I highly recommend the beef with egg noodles, lemongrass chicken, or the curry chicken. Â Of course, their pho is wonderful, but there is just so much there that I never come close to finishing it. Â You can't go wrong here.
Hard not to like this place with great food, good service, and nice owners. Â It is a bit out of the way for us, but it was worth the trip. Â We like the simple and clean decoration of the place. So far everything we had tried, like crispy fried tuna roll appetizer, chicken curry, Pho, and Seafood Tomato Soup-Bun Rieu, were all great. My daughter loves the chicken curry, which while not spicy, was awesome. Â This is exactly the type of independent restaurant we need more of in Indy. The only negative is that the service can get slow when the place gets busy. I think they need an extra waitperson. If this place was located in downtown or Broad Ripple, it would be jam packed anytime.
Review Source:I've eaten here twice now on my lunch break and it is just NOT a good place to have lunch. Â For a small portion of food that comes with their lunch special, it takes way too long to prepare. Â Although tasty, if you can't get your lunch special out to me in time to eat it and get back to work on time, it's really not for lunch, nor is it special.
Review Source:It's all about the pho, always. Â If you are a restaurant that serves pho, it really doesn't matter what else is on the menu; everything else is just decoration. Â Fair or unfair, you will forever be judged solely and entirely on how well you concoct your steamy, rare beef soup.
Sandra is in a strip mall. Pho joints and strip malls go together like blue cheese and hot wings (I would be concerned if it wasn't in one.) Â The service is a wee bit slow, but not to worry: it is run by a friendly husband and wife team, and once you realize that they are doing all the work - the cooking and the serving - between the two of them, you can sympathize. Â
To the point: Â the pho passes the test with good marks. Â Rich, hot broth, with a touch of sweetness and five spice: Â check. Â Thinly sliced, tender, medium rare beef: check. Â Non-clumpy noodles: Â check. Â Abundant, fresh basil and bean sprouts served on the side: check minus (bean sprouts were a day or two old). Â Sriracha and Hoisin sauces in clean bottles on the table: check.
Finally, the price was very reasonable  (6.25 for pho tai), and the portion was slightly bigger than other places in Indy.
Conclusion: Â Sandra passes muster based on its very good pho and friendly service. Â Worth the long trip down Pendleton Pike.
Came here after seeing the good reviews during a solo weekend stay at Fort Harrison State Park. I arrived shortly after the lunch rush, and several tables were unoccupied but had not been cleared. Probably because the owners seemed to be the only 2 people working. One of them, the woman, called out a greeting and said she would help me shortly. I found a clean table and waited.
After my initial uncertain impressions, everything was great. She was extremely friendly and helpful. I just ordered pho, which came out quickly and was very tasty. The prices are quite reasonable, and there was free Wi-Fi somewhere that I was able to use while I ate.
The atmosphere was bright and tasteful, parking was easy, the location was good (at least for me, coming from Fort Harrison). If I were ever in the area again, I would not hesitate to stop back here.
After  many positive reviews,  it's just a 10 mile drive to try what some have said would be quite the experience!  One woman as the server for the duration of my stay.  What ? no Asparagus soup, you're out. Okay, my order will be quick; and take  home.  20-30 minute wait okay? Yes, that's fine..   2 tables over== I've already heard them say  "maybe she's waiting on all of us to get settled in before taking our order" She moves to the next table over *1empty table between us*  6 or so people- takes their order;  40 minutes into the evening, she's taking them their food, dish by dish, person by person.  While I'm sitting; connecting to BW3's on WiFi;  I notice my take out bag on the counter, but that's 6 minutes away.  She serves the other table, and then after being very personable,  brings my stacked food. Â
My Saturday night deal; Vietnamese Pancake (Banh Xeo)
7.59 greasy sloppy mess; and now, substituted  Coconut Chicken Soup  3.99 Saturday night, 704 pm arrival, 5 empty tables. 48 minute wait on Take out order.  That would be my 1st impression of SRN on a wet rainy Saturday night.
Man this place is great! A group of 6 of us showed up around 8pm for dinner. There appeared to be just one server (the owner) and a busser who spoke literally zero English. We didn't have a problem with this, but it made for a few mix-ups when our appetizers and food was delivered and when trying to order additional drinks. The spring rolls were good, but the fried tuna rolls were amazing! I ordered the Pho Bo and thoroughly enjoyed it. Also tasted the Lemon Chicken, Pork Chop (AMAZING) and the Shrimp Curry. Everything we were served was superb and very fresh. The owner was very nice too. We'll definitely be going back! We all thought a little music playing in the dining room would have really helped the mood as it was VERY quiet.
Review Source:This place rocks.
The owner is a petite Vietnamese lady named Ha. She is one of the most personable and accommodating restaurant owners around.
Their menu is a bit small especially for Vietnamese places. This doesn't matter though. Just let her know in advance and they will make anything you want.
As far as on menu Items the Pork chop is probably the best I have had anywhere in the country. The Pho is also astounding. It has a really great star anise flavor.
The have a special once a month at which you can order bahn mi and a few other items not on their regular menu.
I love this restaurant. We went here as part of the International Supper Club and our meal rated in my personal top five faves that we've tried. We ate family style, and I'm not going to pretend to remember names of dishes, other than to say I ate my head off, and lychees are super good. We had three desserts that I had never tried, that made me like taro again, and I absolutely cannot wait to go here again. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was great, and I can't gush enough about this place in general.
Review Source:The freshest fruits & vegetables, choice meats, fragrant herbs & spices. If you expect all if this when you dine-out then prepare to have your expectations fulfilled at Sandra Rice & Noodles. We dined here recently with the Yelp Int'l Supper Club and in my opinion every dish was a culinary masterpiece. This place is fantastic and the owner & chef, who also served us, has the most pleasant & amusing personality and takes great pride in her restaurant and her food. As she should. She also is very accomodating to anyone's particular tastes and mentioned more than once that she will cook anything that is not on the menu per request as long as she knows the dish or the ingredients and of course if the ingredients are available. I really enjoyed the several course delectable feast that was served to our group. Â There were Spring Rolls filled with fresh crisp veggies and Vietnamese sausage, refreshing Papaya Salad, Sweet & Sour Soup which had a mildly spicy broth and chunks of pineapple & other vegetables, steaming bowls of fragrant Jasmine Rice, Pan Fried Tilapia (complete with bones & head attached) flavored with lemongrass & chiles, bone-in Beef Short Ribs cut into medium sized chunks and resting in a platter of meaty broth, and various dishes of sweet rice pudding for dessert - one had corn in it (yum!) and another had chunks of lychee. The owner again was so gracious and even served an exotic fruit (the name escapes me) native of Vietnam that was odd-looking but fun to eat and tasted similar to lychee. They have a sizable menu and their prices are incredibly reasonable. I know I'll be boldly & confidently recommending this place a lot.
Review Source:The International Supper Club visited Sandra Rice and Noodles this month, and we were not disappointed! Â We had a fabulous family style meal. Â Some of the items were not on the menu. Â The highlights for me were the spring rolls, papaya salad, and whole tilapia pan fried with chili and lemongrass. Â Everyone loved the short ribs. Â Even me, and I don't even like ribs! Â Here's a tip--there are specials listed on a blackboard behind the cash register. Â Several of those items looked quite tempting. Â The regular menu is very large, too. Â One thing I can absolutely guarantee--order the spring rolls and you will love them. Â They are just as beautiful as they are delicious. Â And they come with a wonderful peanut sauce.
And I can't fail to mention the owners. Â We were hosted mainly by the wife, and she is one of the sweetest, most charming women you'll ever meet. Â Go visit her and eat some great food!
Went here with the Indy Int'l Supper Club and the adorable owner made us all sorts of not on the menu stuff. Â We had spring rolls, sweet and sour soup, pho, papaya salad, tilapia, short ribs, three kinds of dessert... Oh my! It was all incredible. Â I highly suggest the papaya salad whenever it is on special. Â The service was great, the food was wonderful, and you simply cannot beat the wonderful, incredible, fantastically charming owner. Â She is great! Â Go try this place. Â You'll love it.
Review Source:Man oh man, I wish I had found out about this place sooner. Â I came here for the first time two weeks ago, and have already been back a second time. Â In fact, thinking about the food here, I'm ready to go back for a third time right now. Â I've had two different tofu dishes from the menu, one a little spicy, one not at all, and both were excellent. Â Both were in light sauces and had perfectly cooked Vietnamese vegetables with them. Â The owner is amazingly sweet, and once I ordered a tofu dish, came over and talked to me specifically about the different vegetarian/vegan things they can do. Â She said that if you tell her you want Buddha food, she'll know to make it vegan. Â What I'm most excited about, however, is that if I call a day ahead of time, she will make vegan Pho! Â I've been going to restaurants for years that server Pho and have only been able to stare covetously at other people's bowls, as they never have a version that is not in a meat broth. Â I'm so pumped to actually get to try this! Â
The restaurant itself is tucked in a little strip mall by the Walmart in Lawrence. Â The inside is nicely decorated and very clean (I used to be a restaurant manager and because of that I notice little things like dust on chair rails and picture frames - none of that here!). Â The prices are more than reasonable, with most entrees in the $7-$9 range. Â Being a far east-sider, this isn't too far from my house, so it is a certainty that this delicious food will be making its way to my stomach frequently.
My first foray into Vietnamese food left me a fan. Â We wanted a "classic" meal and were not disappointed.
Started off with the spring rolls which were an interesting texture for a newbie like me, but the flavors combined with the dipping sauce made me a believer.
We both ordered Pho, my date with beef, mine tofu. Â In his words "Vietnamese taste, American portion size." Â As a gold-star member of the clean plate club, even I could not finish off my $5.95 giant bowl of soupy goodness.
Service attentive and atmosphere clean. Â We were in on a Friday night and there were only 6 people there, so for the moment, this place seems to be a secret. Â Loved getting to chat with our server about her background and places she wanted to visit when she next makes it back to Vietnam.
Will probably try something else on my next visit for the sake of being adventurous. Â I will most definitely be back!
The service here can be pretty darn slow but the food is tasty. Grab a menu off the counter and be ready to order the first time they stop by or you may not make it on your lunch hour.
The lunch special is incredible - $6 for a spring roll, soup and entree. I loved the Pad Thai. Coworkers enjoy the Curry Chicken and Cashew Chicken a lot. They will give you the same special for take out! Yum!
I went to Sandra Rice and Noodle for the first time yesterday on 1/6/10 and it was TO DIE FOR! First of all, let me start off by saying, the resteraunt itself was very suprising. There are not very many places nowadays that are clean, and nicely decorated, or even smell extremely good as you walk in.Secondly, The owners are the nicest people I think I've ever met. I was so intrigued by their story (Which you can read on the wall). It was very heartfelt and sincere and I enjoyed it alot! Okay now on to the food! The food was amazing!!! It took me awhile to order, because I am extremely picky about my Viet food. They were making recommendations left and right, but I finally went with the curry chicken with all sweet potatoes and no white potatoes, and an order of chicken egg rolls. I paid 12.10 (Which isn't bad at all for how much food I got) and I ate the entire order over the course of a few hours! I was really really trying to save some for lunch, but it was so hard and so tempting! I am totally a fan of their curry chicken. It's by far the best I've had. It's going to be hard for me not to order that on my second voyage down there! I'm sorry I'm so long winded, but I can't talk about this place enough! Everyone please go and support them! You won't be dissapointed!
Review Source:Ok...I'm very very picky about my Viet food. This place has some good points and some neg. Went home to visit the folks and took dad out. He's vegetarian. They were accommodating to him...but then again it could be 2 possible reasons for that, one...we're Viet and we can speak to them better...two...apparently as it turns out my uncle was really good friends with their mom! We order the spring roll, ca kho and canh chua ca. Ca kho was catfish in a nice pepper sauce. Canh chua ca is a great compliment to the previous dish. It's a soup that is sour and spicy. Loaded with celery, tomato, pineapple and beansprout. Was too sweet for my taste but still good. My dad had the veggie fried rice. They offer to make a veg curry but he wasn't in the mood.
Here's the negative...for Viet food I thought it was rather pricey. But then again...the location is much closer for me.
Overall...service was friendly so I gave 4 stars...but that was me being generous.
I'd been once before for lunch, but hadn't felt the need to go back until I started craving Pho. The Pho Ga was really GOOD! At $5.95 for a huge bowl you can't beat the price. The place was very crowded and service could have benefited from having more than one server and one cook. But I'd be more than willing to wait more than usual for another great bowl of pho.
Review Source:I must echo the first reviewer. Â I have only been there a few times during the evening and it was not busy. Â Kind of sad to see all these droves of people walking by only to enter B-dubs to get buckets of wings slathered in high fructose corn syrup. Â Back to Sandra Rice and Noodle, if you are a foodie get into this place. Â Everything I've ordered has been most delicious and made with great care. Â The dishes are Vietnamese influenced but on the lighter side (less oils and fats) Â The owners are way beyond kind. Â If you are interested, like I am, they will be glad to tell you the story behind the menu items. Â Thieir Pho Ga (chicken soup) is made with homemade chicken broth, which is not that common, it's usually made with beef broth. Â Just order it, you will not be disappointed. Â They are also willing to make dishes that are not on the menu. Â I asked about the bang xeo (vietnamese pancake) and she said that she could make it but preferred it I called in a day in advance to let her know because the batter needs saturate in order for the flavors to meld. Â If you prefer tasty but not heavy food this is definitely the place for you and well worth the trek from any side of town. Â I will become a regular. Â Thanks for the reference Neal P.
Review Source:Opened in early 2007. Â Everything is very clean, new, upscale, and tastefully decorated. The dinner hour wasn't crowded, but I was impressed that it looked like they already had established a carry-out clientele who knew what they wanted.
Located on the South side of Pendleton Pike, next to BW3. You might not see their sign from the road. So if you're going NE on Pendleton Pike, turn right into the strip mall where you see the "DEALS" store or BW3. If you pass Wal-mart, you've gone too far.
This is one of the fancier Vietnamese restaurants in town. Very nice china plates. Cloth napkins. Stainless steel eating utensils. Fancy menu with spiral binding.
I had the poultry rolls appetizer, and liked it. It's like a spring roll with chicken instead of shrimp and pork.
I also had the Bun Bo Xao, cool rice noodles with beef, and it was excellent.
The staff is very friendly.
This is a good place to take someone to impress them. Much better than what you would expect in a strip mall.
