Bando Restaurant

My mother and father in law live in Indy, and this is one of the usual spots they take me husband and I to eat when we're in town. It helps to have an intimidating Korean woman with you when you eat at this restaurant, the mother-in-law. The customer service just seems to be bumped a bit when she's around ;)

We usually just get our kbbq on, leaving the place smelling like meat which is fine by me. The variety of ban chan is great, and your servers usually (or should at least) refills whatever you munch to death. Faves: fish cake, cucumber kim chi, and the shredded raddish.

This place is one of Indy's few gems. Be prepared to open up your wallet! Definitely check it out if you're in the mood for Korean food :)

Never wrote a review before but feel compelled. My kids 22 and 19 are Crazy about the Korean culture, they listen to K-pop and watch Korean dramas on Netflix. So it is my youngest birthday and they want go to a Korean restaurant . I go online read the reviews and in spite of some references to poor service I pick Bando. It takes a while for them to take our order but the food was delicious. We got the cow tongue, bulgogi and beef ribs. Good food and cooking the meat on the barbecue was interactive and fun. The side dishes were interesting to someone who has never had Korean before. The service was slow but not totally anoying, My water ran out, it never got refilled. The issues really started when the meal ended. We waited almost 30 minutes for our check--even moving to stand next to the register at one point to kind of hurry the waitress but to no avail. While waiting my daughter suddenly stood up from the table with a shriek, there was a small cockroach crawling across the surface of the table. A Korean woman at the table next to us killed the bug but that was enough for my daughter who left right afterward. We weren't going to say anything to the woman who finally checked us out but the Korean woman who killed the bug stepped in and told the server about the roach. After another 10 minute wait we were given a $20 gift card for tomorrow evening with the promise of even more of a discount if we came back. Not sure if we'll take them up on that offer. While we were waiting for the check another couple told the server they had waited too long and left the restaurant because their orders had never been taken. The waitress that was working seemed to be the only server there and she was working hard but one waitress to 35 patrons is going to make service slow regardless of how hard working you are. Moral of the story--great food doesn't make up for a bad experience.

We love their food.

We used to be regulars at Mama's (grown and raised there) but we started coming here regularly.

Their sides are good. Not engrossed in MSG, and always fresh.
The Kahl Bee is really good too and they also have specials sometimes.
Kahl Bee Tang, and Potato Soup, and lots other.
The waitress is like an aunt to me and the owner is like a grandma.
We been coming here weekly for over a year and we're not stopping anytime soon. :)
