We went for an anniversary dinner and it was fantastic. The place is comfortable and quiet, there was a Jazz trio playing, perfect mood and ambiance. The food is extremely good! We started with the calamari appetizer, which was perfect, and we loved the dipping sauce it came with. Husband ordered the deconstructed beef stroganoff, and I had the pan roasted Atlantic salmon -- perfectly done. Both dishes were excellent. We especially liked the sauteed spinach and veggies that came with it!  We had the Tanglewood sparkling wine with our dinner and loved it.

The only minor complaint was the stroganoff sauce was just a little too salty... but went well with the mashed potatoes. It also would be nice if they had a full bar.

The service was impressive! Very high-end service.

We topped it off with coffee -- it comes with your own little french press -- and cannoli. The cannolli were fantastic! It was a great anniversary date. I really look forward to going back to Shutter's soon!!

Went there toward the one o'clock hour for lunch after cherry picking, and it wasn't busy at all. Maybe three or four tables with probably 15 diners total. The server seemed new but very courteous and striving to be as professional as possible. The food took quite a long time to come out because the owner, who is also the executive chef, was working by himself. I'm sure if he had the budget to have another cook with him, he would have but it did affect service. The linguine with prawns dish was hands down the best dish at our table. Very tasty, flavorful and well-seasoned. Even the kids Mac and Cheese dishes were more like adult dishes with a béchamel sauce. I wouldn't go out of my way to come back (it's about an hour drive from home) but I would love to try the dinner menu sometime.

Very good food! Just recently visited Shutters for a wedding rehearsal dinner! I enjoyed their breadsticks, which were to die for, a wedge salad, so yummy and light, their salmon dish which was by far the best one I have ever had, and finished it off with delicious creme brûlée!

Oh my god! This place is so incredible, it exceeds any dining experience i have had in SF, Vegas, Calistoga, you name it. I could taste the fresh herbs and vegetables with every bite. Scottie is a true talent and we are only LUCKY to be in the vicinity of this fantastic establishment. Flock there, now!

They defy the #1 law in business...it is not about location here it is all about food, music and service. The food is farm to table and very flavorful, the young waiter is very good too!

I gave Scottie's A-OK because it is nice to having something other than Caps to go to on a special occasion.  However, bring your wallet and eat a little something before you leave home.  The Mother's Day brunch was a lot of nothing but nice company and little food for a lot of money.  They should have made a concession for vegeterians who did not deserve to pay the price for Prime Rib for a sliver of Quiche.  My wife was disappointed and still hungry when we left, but they did give her a rose (not edible).  They offered 3 desserts included on the pre-fixed menu but when we arrived for our meal at 2:30 they were already out of the lemon cupcake with nothing to replace it or any other suggestions; oh other than to pay.   We made due and paid $100 and ate at home.  Honestly, we  won't go back.  I wish this would have worked out ,we need a more nice dining in Brentwood.

My husband, our daughter & I went to Scottie's tonight for the first time. The food was wonderful. I had the meatloaf, Lito had the porkchop, our daughter had the spaghetti & meatball dinner. I tried a bite and really liked it.The proportion of each was more then enough. The ambiance was nice as well. The live music was delightful. We bought a bottle of the house wine, Copper Ridge, which was just - okay. The bathroom was very clean. ( We didn't do dessert.)

    We will go again, soon.

We recently moved to Brentwood from San Mateo and were worried we would miss some of the great restaurants there.  We won't.

Instead of driving to San Francisco from Brentwood, people who live in San Francisco should drive to Brentwood.  Scottie's wonderful, with an amazing young chef who has some of the most creative food I have had in 25 years of living in the bay area.  It is a French-Vietnamese fusion that is to die for.  It started with the best martini I have had in a long time, and escargot from heaven.  The duck confit was perfect and generous.  A little too much pomme frite but they were very, very tasty.

I read some of the other reviews and it's unfortunate that the patrons didn't get it.  This is a very special place, with extremely fine cuisine.  The wait staff is wonderful. The food was so good, I would venture to say you would drive into SF before you found anything comparable.

Came here on a Monday night and there was only 1 other table besides ourselves. I kind of liked that though, I am able to relax ...I am not a big fan of huge crowds and huge-crowd noise...

Menu is decent sized ...Salmon, steaks, chicken Marsala, raviolis, something for everyone. So why only 3 stars?  It's a bit pricy for what you get OR maybe I should say "For what you DON'T get".

I chose the florentine spinach raviolis in a brown butter sage sauce. What I got was about 6 or 7 raviolis...and that's it. No veggies, no soup, no salad, no bread...price of this dish...about $20...that comes to a little over 3 bucks a ravioli....REALLY?? My husband had Salmon with mashed Yukon potatoes and sautéed spinach ($30). He said it was tasty but was expecting a bit more for the price. This was the first time I have left an establishment still hungry.

Would we come here again? Seriously doubt it.

I am sad to have to write this,my husband I have been going for 6 months.food is excellent and presentation fabulous. But last night the tables turned or should I say did not turn. Apparently the kitchen cannot handle crowds. We had to wait for one hour to be served.By that time we were starving and kept downing the bread. And then we started feeling anger, annoyance, and frustration. The next table waited for 90 minutes and it was the ladies birthday. That is unexcusable.Scottie needs better help in the kitchen,They seem to be inefficient. don,t make the mistake of ordering soup or salad because for sure your entree will be delayed. I feel sorry for the waiters and waitresses. Its not their fault.Scott, Do not blow it. You have such a wonderful thing going but seriously, should you be expected to wait for 90 minutes Service sucks!

Scotties is THE BEST!!! Love this place. The food is so fresh, the recipe's sooooo yummy. One of the best places in Brentwood. It's off the beaten path, but worth the 2 minute drive to get there. Try the Kobe Burger, or the pasta! The desserts are to die for. Sometimes they are slow, but be patient and enjoy!!! Thank you Scottie!!!

This place feels like a trendy, classy spot in the city and yet, it's close to home! Somehow I don't think of this spot much, probably due to the location but the food IS excellent. I'm putting on my list to go back soon. It's a perfect spot for great food, a special occasion or treating out of town guest.

My Hubby and I love this place.  We go about once a month.  Dougie was the BEST server, but he is gone now.  The other servers are good too. This is a four star place where you can go and they know your names, and welcome you back.
Food is really good.  It is a little pricey, but you are paying for the ambience.  This is not a place where they are going to rush you out, but will give you time to sit and enjoy the food and atmosphere.  Don't eat here if you are in a hurry!
Get the garlic bread- amazing; chicken cordon-bleu. My Hubby loves the creme-brulee. The steak is good, and pastas are good too.  Never been disappointed with the food!  Plus, they serve a champagne that you cannot buy elsewhere.  Lightly sweet, and wonderful with the chicken. (I think it's called Tanglewood).

    Great!

Funny when you have a good experience and don't have a lot to say about it.

Service was great and the food was on time and very tasty.

It is in a "weird" location but overall this is the best place in Brentwood.

    Best place in the area!

Finding a decent place to eat is difficult in the Brentwood/Antioch area. I almost cried when we discovered Scottie's. The duck is to die for, the steak is great (but I've had better), the wine list is awesome, and the produce is local. The prices are high, but the portions are large.

Great place for a date night.

I will be going here as much as possible!

Have attempted to go to "lunch" on two different occasions.  Both times, once on a Saturday and again today (Friday), they were closed.  Not a sole in sight.  However, the web site states they are open for lunch.  No business hours posted at restaurant.

Today I left a note in the door frame.  We'll see if they respond.

Another wonderful meal!  Nice to see that Shutters made it through the worst of the recession.  We had a New Years Eve price fixe dinner and it was great, as usual!  The wine list has definitely improved quite a bit, but we still bring our own, and still only a $10 corkage fee.  Scottie is very personable and puts his all into his food, and it shows.  Thank you Scottie!

I really enjoyed dinner with my husband at Scottie's Shutters Brasserie tonight. The food is a bit pricey but it is so worth the cost. Its simply amazing and the portions are very generous. The ambiance is simple elegance and very classy. Who knew that such a cool little place could be tucked away in the middle of nothing?

HOWEVER, one major complaint I have is how they handle their reservations and seating. After seeing here on Yelp that they recommend that you make a reservation, I called and tried to make a reservation for 7:30. The woman on the phone told me that they don't take reservations until 8:00 but that I could walk in. Being as they close at 9:00, I thought it kinda silly to make a reservation so close to closing time.

We got there at around 7:30 and when we walk in, there is no hostess. We're just standing there kind of shuffling our feet and wondering where a greeter is. We try to make eye contact with the staff walking around, but no one meets our gaze. We finally walk up to the bar and ask to be seated and the woman actually tells us; "Wait, I have to go check and see if we're still taking walk-ins." I couldn't believe it!

They won't let you make a reservation until an hour before closing but they would actually turn people away that come through the door wanting to be seated at a decent time????? She comes back telling me that its all right and we can be seated... but for a moment there, I was getting steaming mad. If we would have been turned away after being told we couldn't make reservations for a decent time, I would have complained to the owner big time. This is not a proper way to run a business, especially one that's supposed to be high end. If seating is available and you won't let people reserve the available seating, you had best give it to people who show up wanting it!

The greeter service, or lack there of, is the entire reason I'm not giving this place a five star review. The food does deserve five stars but the owner had best do himself a favor and get himself a much better seating and reservation system. He should also get a greeter to stand by the door that actually greets people. Its sad when you can say that you've experienced better greeters at a Denny's. Other than that though, the atmosphere and food are excellent and the service is quite good. Me and my husband are planning on returning, we just hope going through the door will be a more pleasant experience next time.

    BEST. STEAMED. CLAMS. EVER.

My sister and I were craving seafood. When we got to the restaurant, Scottie (the owner) suggested that we should try the steamed clams. That was definitely the best steamed clams I have ever had! The broth was delicious and was a little spicy, which I LOVE, and it left me wanting more after each bite and slurp.

I would definitely recommend this restaurant. They provide excellent service, the waiters and waitresses are friendly, the owner is funny and amiable, and the place itself is classy and lovely.

You would never guess that such a great and classy place would be located in a rather remote location. Yeah, it seems a little industrial maybe, but once the Chicken Parmesan shows up you will know you are in culinary heaven.  My visit was a little challenging at first as the server seemed as cold as ice and not as menu or customer focused as i would have liked, however Scottie to the rescue and his team picked up the slack into warp drive.

The Jazz, the low level lighting (minus the bright neon OPEN sign ) that I want to hit with a baseball bat by the way, was perfect.  Great entertainment, a take away from whatever is on your stressful mind, only to be enlightened even more by the wonderful food.

Scottie, has a way of making you feel like your at his home. Warm, Friendly, willing to give love in his food and in his attitude.

This is not only a Brentwood gem....this is a gem in life - a true chef/owner with a passion to make things right.

I loved my experience here, and as critical as I am - I highly recommend you drive down Sunset, to find the brightest Sunrise in culinary excellence and passion.

4 words: The Lamb. Get it!

We've been here several times now.  Once for just dessert and the other times for dinners.  We've been happy every time.  Reasonable prices and possibly the nicest restaurant in Brentwood.   The service is friendly (ie. we've never had issues) and the clientele is mixed enough that everyone fits in.  They've got a little bit of everything so your entire party will find something to eat.

We've had the trout, the lamb, Fruitte De Mare and the Chicken Riesling and everything has been fantastic.  Don't go in a hurry.  It's dinning not eating.  Once my mom pointed out that it was a place to dine not just eat I realized why they turn people away.  It's about their quality.  I respect that.

Biggest Tip: Start with the Garlic Bread and end with a dessert.  I don't care which one, just do it.

Great place for a romantic dinner out for foodies.

We made reservations as suggested for a Friday night 7:15pm.

Finding the place was odd because it is literally in an industrial park-style building. You cannot judge it from the outside or location of where it is in Brentwood.

When we entered there was live music (pretty good, if a little bit vegas lounge-y with stand up bass and decent covers from the piano player and excellent drummer), white  tablecloths and napkins, friendly professional servers,  hip decor the kind you would see in SF .And a great menu.

The menu (sheets of paper) boasted specials made with local Brentwood Farms produce.

Appetizer #1:The Garlic Bread was actually roasted garlic infused dense spongey french bread:crusty and warm and topped with good quality melted cheese sprinkled with fresh basil strips. It was accompanied by  a dipping oil made from local olive oil ,balsamic vinegar ,  and grated aged cheese. yum.

Appetizer #2:The roasted butternut squash rainbow ravioli with brown butter and arugula was very very good.. I personally like salted brown butter sauce better but it was still good.

I had the Salmon with mustard scallion sauce on the side. the salmon was pan seared perfectly. The yukon mashed potatoes were well seasoned, perhaps a bit drier than I like. local asaparagus (oven roasted) was amazing.

My husband had the steak au poivre with a cabernet reduction and was in HEAVEN.

He had another religious experience eating their creme brulee.

I wasn't impressed with the cherry tart but the french press coffee made up for it.

glass of wine, two appetizers, two main meals, two desserts and one coffee = over 100.00.

I wouldn't bring children. I wouldn't come in jeans for SURE. I wouldn't bring large noisy groups. They have a full bar and that is a plus.

It is not super fancy but trendy feeling. Has some rough edges that you can barely tell (the location, the paper menus, minor mistakes in the table service)

Teens and college kids may not want to come here, but this is NOT a "senior center only" like many Brentwood restaurants seem to become.

We are non-snobby professionals in our 30's  (with kids) and this place suits us well.

I will come again for sure with my husband for another "date night".

    awesome.

Last Friday, the Darling Wife and I went to Scottie's Shutters Brasserie for dinner.  We were promptly seated by Kristen and she asked us if we desired a martini, my DW ordered Lemon Drop and I asked for my usual, Manhattan up, unfortunately they only serve vodka martinis, wine and beer.  I ordered a nice Lava Cap cabernet.  Kristin was soon back with the drinks and as hostess she helped out the servers by taking our dinner order (she remained our server all night long).  My DW ordered the Seafood Risotto, but instead of risotto, she asked for linguini, they were happy to comply, and a speciality salad.   I ordered the New York Steak with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach.  Both were excellent.

The service was excellent, the food was great and the jazz in the background by the live quartette made the evening a very relaxing and positive experience.

Came here last night and we all still enjoy the food...one way i gauge a restaurant is how they prepare and cook their pork chop...most places tend to overcook it! Well Shutter's does a good one! It's juicy, flavorful with a reduction with a hint of sweetness accompanied with haricot vert. Delicious....and it's not just 'good for  what's in Brentwood'.

Service was okay...i can tell they try as this place seems to cater to large groups for special occasions. Unlike the 4 of us who came in at 5:20 just to have dinner. The service last night was nothing compared to our first visit with Douglas being our waiter.  This time around they seem to have different people wait on you...

The main complaint (and only) we had last night was the coffee....it was served to us lukewarm...we asked another waiter if we could get coffee that were hot and the waiter offered to microwave it. YES, he did!  To me, this is a big no-no...so i had asked if a new batch could be made and he assured us he would. Oddly, the 2nd batch was just warm....i dunno...im expecting the coffee temperature to at least melt the sugar...

If anything, he apologized profusely which we appreciate but still would've liked a hot cup of coffee before we hit the road back to the Bay Area...oh well. Please Shutter's work on this!

All in all, i'd definitely return for the entrees....flavorful and delicious!

This place is completely over-rated.  i've been here twice with a three year span in between visits and both times came away disappointed.

First - DON'T Call it a Martini if it's not made with real GIN or VODKA.  apparently they don't have a liquor license but still want to be upscale so they pass off weak wine drinks for martinis.   Shameful.

Second:  They are in the middle of farm-land yet nothing seasonal was on the menu.  There wasn't even a seasonal/daily special.  I asked the waiter about sourcing locally and he told us that they try to get some of their Veg from local producers but all their Proteins just came from their food supplier.  No Nyman Ranch or other sustainably raised meats.

Third:  The food was bland & umimaginative.  We struggled just to find decent starters and the entres were boring.  We actually almost left because nothing sounded that great.   Desert menu equally lacked creativity.

Fourth - Service was OK but not great & there were only three tables occupied in the place at 7pm on a Wednesday night.  The waiter had obviously not been trained in fine dining service and was overly chatty.  He did say that they are "BIG Yelpers" there which explains all the positive reviews.

Finally - What the heck do they need a TV in this place for?  it's not like they have a real bar!  PLUS they claim that their emphasis is on slow food, i.e. really enjoying your meal & company so why the TV?  We found it odd, out of place and indicative of how low brow this place really is.

Yes - this place may be decent for Brentwwod given the options out there, but I think you would be better served by driving a little either to Walnut Creek or Livermore and having a really good meal if that's what you are after.  Save your money by skipping htis place and then go to a real fine dining restaurant.

Had to give it a try based on all the great posts. Scottie did not disappoint. It was a Monday and our anniversary so we decided to give it a try. It is in a strange location and was empty but we did not mind. We enjoyed the special attention.

We started with the garlic bread. My 10 yr old and husband gobbled it up along with the dipping oil (with a bunch of yummy stuff in it). We also tried the calamari. Not the best we have ever had but good.

My husband had the pork chop which I did have a bite of and it was really juicy, tasty and huge. My 10 yr old ordered the biggest item he could find, steak of course, and it was fantastic. He almost finished half. I had the pre fix menu of salad, salmon and creme brule for dessert which we all shared. It was great.

Scottie came out to greet us. We even got some complimentary champagne with dessert. It was a perfect ending to our lovely meal.

Overall food portions were huge and it was very good. We hope to return again soon. Thanks yelpers for the great reviews. We enjoyed it!

Review update here.  I went back, as promised, and had a great experience.  We were practically the only ones in there during a weekday lunch, but that made it something sort of spectacular. The interior decor was different than most anything I've seen outside of San Francisco and reminded me more of the east coast than anywhere else I've been.

I ordered up the steak frites, which turned out to be a healthy sized tenderloin strip.  I was impressed and quite full when all was said and done.  Even the house salad that came with the entree was quite premium.  My compatriots all enjoyed their dishes as well and no one had any complaints.  No one had any room for dessert, unfortunately.

To round things out, the service was also prompt and friendly.  We'll most likely be making our way back here in the next few weeks.  Still short a star due to the first trip, otherwise Shutters might have been a bona fide level-5.

It's been a while sine we ate here. I had the Shutters burger while my wife had Orzo pasta. Still delicious! Charbroiled flavor and juicy inside.

The owner gave us some corn chowder and tomato soup sampler, yum-o.

Maybe we should check the restaurant out during dinner since we love their food. Me and my wife will probably do that next time.

My significant other and I popped in on a Saturday night after running some errands around town.  Brentwood is really lacking nice restaurants, and I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

When we walked in, the place was full of empty tables--we did not have a reservation and the host acted as if I had just asked if I could bring my tee-ball team there.  I guess my irritation was evident, because he found a table for us.  Maybe they didn't have enough servers or staff?  As we sat there, we watched as customer after potential customer was turned away.

Our waiter seemed to be about 18 years old and would have been more in place waiting tables at Olive Garden.  It took him probably 15 minutes to acknowledge us--and even after that, he was not overly attentive.  It wasn't BAD, but is just wasn't what I expected for an expensive restaurant (I guess they can pull it off in Brentwood).

As for atmosphere, the lighting was fine and the tables were nicely set.  As you look around though, you realize that you are in a weird strip mall.  The ceilings are exposed air ducts and metal rafters--if you look up, you could be in an auto parts store or Costco.  They also had Christmas decorations up at the end of January.  Most of the other people in the restaurant were tan, real-estate agent type women with golfing businessman polo-shirt husbands.  It was very noisy.  There was a large birthday party on the opposite side of the restaurant, as well as a piano and bass player, and a television on in the "bar" area.

The food was completely mediocre.  I ordered the trout with lentils and corn and my significant other got the Kobe burger with fries.  The trout was cooked well, but the lentils were undercooked and didn't have much flavor.  The Kobe burger tasted like it could have been from Chili's.  The burger had the metallic taste of commercially produced beef.  It was served it on a ciabatta roll--which the burger slipped off and was sort of difficult to eat.  I appreciate the idea of the local produce, but none of the ingredients in either of our meals tasted overly local (of course, it is winter, but the local produce was still advertised on the menu).  The corn in my lentil side was some combination or canned or badly frozen.  It also took a very long time to get our food.

There are no nice restaurants in Brentwood.  This place is trying to fill that niche and perhaps even tricking people into believing that this might be a nice restaurant.  It isn't.  The prices are really high for the area and for the flavor of the food ($24 cioppino, $15 cheeseburger, $24 steak au poivre, $12 appetizers), the wine selection is mediocre, and the service is not great.

Also, I just read someone else's review and I realized that we didn't check to see if there was an automatic gratuity.  You just assume for a table of two, there is not an automatic gratuity.  We probably double tipped Mr. Olive Garden.  That is sneaky and wrong.

Went to Shutters early on Sunday evening w/my GF and sister.  The place was empty and only 2 other couples were there during our stay.

The location is odd, but not difficult to find.  The decor was open, airy and contemporary.  There's also an outdoor patio, which looked attractive but that we did not try.

The service was friendly, but not as attentive as if could have been, given that there was literally no one else in the place at times.  For example, the waiter never refilled our sparkling wine or water glasses, even when he cleared the table and could see that was needed.  I also noticed him chatting at length with the cook without paying very close attention to us or other customers in the restaurant.  However, he did bring a fresh bottle of water after we finished the Prosecco and were lingering at the table.

The food was acceptable, but not outstanding.  I had the lobster bisque special, we shared the fried calamari and each had a seafood dish - clam linguine, tarragon tiger prawns and the cioppino (also a special).  The calamari was very good - lightly battered, not oily and included lots of tentacles (my favorite part).  The lobster bisque was fine, but lacked flavor.  I didn't try any, but the linquine and prawns got good reviews from my guests and the cioppino I was served was acceptable, despite the seafood being a bit dry and overcooked (shrunken mussels was the tip off).  We also had a bottle of Prosecco which was very good.

This is probably one of the better independent contemporary dining locations (if not the only such location) available in the Tri-Delta area.  The cost for dinner was under $160 for 3 including tip, tax and a bottle of sparkling wine, which was reasonable.  We enjoyed the meal and had a nice time, but I hesitate to give it better than 3 stars for now.

There's nothing specifically "wrong" with this restaurant, but the combination of food, service and ambiance didn't seem notable enough to deserve 4 (let alone 5) stars.  However, I'm going to visit it a couple more times to see if an upgrade is deserved.

Hopefully, given the apparently poor patronage it receives, it will survive long enough for me to do that.

    What a Fantastic place!
Like others have said it is in the middle of some place you would never expect to find such a fabulous little restaurant (Blocks from my house LOL).
I went in and had the chipino  with beer that came from the Eureka area.
It was very moderately priced and I can see this becoming one of my local favorite stops.

Wow--the only reason I will not give this 5 stars is that one time the pork chop was slightly overcooked.

Damn this place is just plain good. When I try a new place there are some things I will order just to see how well they are done. For this reason I chose an appetizer of Fried Calamari. It is so easy to prepare this correctly, but even easier to screw it up. The Calamari was perfect--light, not greasy, not rubbery. Perfect.

Likewise the Tarragon Tiger Prawns--just perfect--cooked perfectly, flavors balanced perfectly, the orzo with diced asparagus accompaniment perfect.

Pork chop--I prefer pink in the middle, this was done a little too much for me. However, the meat was still moist and the flavors were exceptional.

    Ravioli--Fabuloso.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea.

Local ingredients are used where possible and sourced on the menu. This place is out of the way but worth the trip--here's my suggestion: Make a day of it--go pick your own Cherries or produce at a local farm, clean up, and have an early dinner here.

Maybe, just camp here and eat until you pop.
