This is the place that we have been looking for in North Myrtle Beach. We went here expecting to have a glass of wine and a couple appetizers, but then we saw the beer list. The beer list is amazing! These guys love good beer! We had the caprese salad with local heirlooms and homemade mozzarella. It was out of this world. Â We then split the duck breast, and that was even better! We stuck around and had a couple more beers with the staff. Â They are are super kind and we will definitely be back next year! Thanks for a great meal!
Review Source:This review has been a long time coming (ate here last March), but I still remember the experience. The Myrtle Beach area has a bit of an issue with having restaurants that don't fall into the tourist trap mantra. Sea Blue was a welcome surprise after searching for a higher end restaurant in the area.
The ambiance was a bit over the top with all of the blue lighting, and it's located in a strip mall. However the service was great, and the food was well-executed. We got 4 apps, 4 entrees and a bunch of cocktails. Examples were lobster mac n cheese, foie gras, duck, etc. Like I said, the food tasted good and the overall experience was a good one. Â The prices are high for sure, but at least Sea Blue brings a glimmer of hope to the fine dining realm near Myrtle.
Dined 5/23
I received two phone calls at 1:30 in the morning on June 2nd from an employee of the restaurant. I did not answer, and the person left two psycho-nasty messages. Each was extremely profane and vulgar and expressed, among other things, that they were unhappy with the review I left on one or more websites.
After I woke up, I called the restaurant and played the messages for them. The call was not taken seriously because the person that answered the phone tried to disclaim it was them and acted ornery. The supposed "owner" that I subsequently spoke too actually sounded like she chuckled at one point when I played the messages back for her.
After doing that, I received two calls from a private number, answering one, in which the person immediately hung up. No message was left during the first call.
I received another hang up call on Sunday, June 3, 2012. About 75 minutes later, I called the number back, stated (since the phone number the call came from was a South Carolina phone number) that I was aware they were calling about this incident, and asked them to call back and leave a message so I could verify their identity since I was receiving harassing phone calls from affiliates of this restaurant.
A few hours later, I was texted from the number. The person claimed they were the owner and said they understood there was an altercation. I texted back that someone from the restaurant was making obscene phone calls to me because they were unhappy with my review and asked if we could set aside a time the following day to discuss it over the phone. I received a text back saying they were aware of the review, but nothing else. The person did not set up a time to discuss. Because the method of communication was so unorthodox (texting), he/she didn't set up a time to talk on the phone, and I had supposedly already talked to an "owner" on Saturday, I began to suspect this person wasn't who they were saying they were.
After 11 PM that night, the person sent another text. The text was disparaging, very offensive, and bizarre. The text was strange and unorthodox and started out with that the person that made the calls was listening to the Jerky Boys and getting high. They told me let this be a lesson to me. I texted back that if he/she contacted me again that I was going to the police.
Ultimately, the restaurant not only admitted to the harassment, but they further justified it and were unapologetic in their responses online to my review. In addition, they violated my privacy by distributing my user handle for various online websites. Online responses to the online reviews were extremely unprofessional (as I had noted with other 3-star and less reviews as well). Â Unfortunately, I can't post all of the details here. However, I can be written at the email address linked to this account and can prove everything.
Complaints were filed with various consumer agencies, and I even contacted the local media to do an interview on the story. The phone calls and text messages stopped, but I filed a police report just so I had a record of the incident in case there were future problems. Â Shortly after, I received by text a $500 offer from the restaurant to remove my review.
Ultimately, I did some research and determined that the person making the phone calls was the chef, the person I talked to on the phone was a co-owner, Tracy Smith (who also offered me the $500 for the removal of the review), and the texts came from her husband, Kenneth Norcutt, who is also co-owner. Â I did my own Google search and immediately found a mugshot of this Kenneth Norcutt guy, and based on his behavior, I don't think he's a stranger to jail.
In addition, I talked to others that aslo left less-than stellar reviews of the restaurant and found out that they also had somewhat similar, albeit mider, unorthodox experiences with the restaurant and owners. Â Lack of professionalism aside, as far as the meal itself the dessert tasted store-bought. Â Also, my partners sorbet was stale. Â Otherwise, it was "OK", but OK isn't good enough when you spent $136 on dinner. Â An acquaintance who lives in the area told me he was familar with the restaurant and that there were much better choices.
Original review:
Usually when a restaurant offers Opentable bonus points and discount gift certificates on http://Restaurant.com, you would think that might be a bad sign. However, I saw some decent reviews for this place and consequently thought I was making a good choice. I was wrong. My chocolate lava cake tasted exactly like a frozen one I had bought at Target perviously (Archer Farms, which is Target's premium store brand). Side dishes were set on each entree. I asked to substitute the fries for mashed potatoes and asparagus for creamed spinach. The waitress indicated that it was going to be a problem, but they (reluctantly) let me swap the potato out, not the green vegetable. Seriously!?!? Try giving the customers what they want.
Here is a recent message from one of the fine people at Sea Blue... copied and pasted from my Yelp box..
apparently Peter B. and I are indeed the fortunate ones :)

For your review of: SeaBlue Restaurant & Wine Bar
You are a nightmare to wait on... This coming from someone who has waited on you in 2 totally different atmospheres. That is the only reason I recognized you the second time. You were a douchebag on both occasions. ... "Napoleon syndrome" at its finest...and NO ONE is impressed except perhaps your significant other....poor girl
I normally let my wife handle the reviews...but in this case, I decided to help.
She wrote a review of our experience...not a great one...and we were stunned to receive a reply to our unpleasant experience from the owner of the restaurant...
in which he not only defended the things we complained about...he called us liars..!!
It was our anniversary, and we bought a coupon from http://restaurant.com for Seablue...
The menu looked posh and we were excited to have a high quality experience.
The hostess and server were great...!!..I cant stress that enough
I wouldnt even complain about the fact that my entre was subpar..because my wife was enjoying her surf and turf so much..but, in all honesty..my Veal chop was described as "tender , milk fed"...it was anything but..more like shoe leather.
Again..I was going to let this slide..because I rarely get to see my wife so pleased with her meal..I just filled up on bread and the side dishes.
But about 5 Â min into the meal our relaxing anniversary meal was interrupted by a very loud mouth gentleman at the bar..about 20 feet away....
there were only about 3 tables sat ..and his voice carried.
I was going to write it off as an over sauced patron when I listened more closely to the words...
turned out... it was the owner carrying on and on about food costs, how he was sick of 'cheap people" coming in to "his nice establishment" with coupons, how "patrons just dont understand what it costs to run a restaurant", then joked about jacking up prices to make more of a profit...
Currently I am a health care professional...but in my former life, I held ever position in a restaurant except owner and I was disgusted by this persons complete lack of tact.
We wrapped up the remaining meal, I asked the waitress if the person talking so loud was the owner..she verified..and I told her to mention to him that he take his personal issues into his back office. where the patrons couldnt hear him...
We were not going to return...but now we want everyone to know that when we took the time to write our review..the owner wrote us saying that "alot of area restaurants are not turning a profit and I was just talking about that"..then proceeded to calling us liars, even going so far to tell my wife that the 12$ drink she complained about being watered down and overpriced was expertly made and only 8 dollars...( we have the bill moron..!!!).No apology about our experience...nothing !
Well, we are not liars...the veal was aweful, he was a loudmouth who should make fun of patrons behind closed doors, and not join http://rest.com if he didnt want people coming in with coupons....
Update:owner called me personally after this review published. It was in fact a bad night at and for the restaurant and was not the usual chef. Â We will certainly go again. I greatly appreciated the call from the owner.
Maybe we went on an off night but our experience was not as positive as others posting here. Appetizers were not great. Sizzling crab dip was a load of bread and very little crab. Ravioli (walnut and spinach) alfredo sauce thin and bland. Main entrees very limited. 4 fish dishes and 6 non fish dishes. Husband had sole dish. Sauce okay but not mixed up well. Son had pesto chicken breast. Sauce heavy and bland. I had the fruits de mer. Seafood fresh but dish was fairly tasteless. Restaurant also lacked the fine rhythm of a well run restaurant. It didn't help the ambience when someone from the kitchen screamed for the waiter across the dining room. Decor is lovely and soothing but if you are going to have two televisions in the bar they should be hidden from the dining room. Overpriced for the experience. We'll come back to try it again.
Great atmosphere. Â High end and yet casual. We felt comfortable in shorts but really will probably dress up next time. Why not?
The salads were great. The food was probably the best we had all week.
Its in a strip mall but we were all pleasantly surprised.
I never eat steaks but something about the prime cut coffee crusted steak with fois gras bread and hericot vert was so amazing. Husband had the shrimp and grits. He was pleased with the quality and taste.
I wouldn't take my kids here but that's because id want to completely enjoy the experience.
Very nice experience, would recommend it to friends. Â Service was A+
Good service and good food... Good not great. Had greens app and lobster mac and cheese app. Then fruit de mer which was good but overpriced. The desert was Great, have the vanilla bean creme brulee... You will not regret it. Total bill was about 30% overpriced for what it was s.
Definitely one of the nicer places in the Myrtle Beach Area but considering the competition, that does not mean it is top tear in other major markets.
My family and me have been vacationing in Myrtle Beach for last past 15 years. This was our first ever trip to SeaBlue because we found it highly recommended on Yelp - we were not disappointed!
The atmosphere is rare for the area and it is completely outstanding. Â You feel like you're in a trendy New York City restaurant without all the hustle and bustle. Â The staff is also exceptionally friendly and knowledgeable about wine.
We had the shrimp and grits to start and it was DELICIOUS! I have never had grits like that! For my main course, I had the fruits de mer and it was by far, the best thing I have ever eaten at the beach! Two others in my family had the grouper and while they said it was tasty, they also said that there was nothing special about it. Â The vanilla bean creme brulee is also completely wonderful and perfectly prepared!
The only down side to SeaBlue is that it is quite expensive. We went during the happy hour special which requires you to eat on the patio or at the bar in order to receive 20% off your total bill - even with the discount our meal was still VERY expensive. Â However, it really is worth it. Â Just be prepared to spend some money and try to go during happy hour so you can get the discount.
Such a rare find in MB. We only eat free range which is so hard to find.
(Although I am disappointed to see Foie Gras on the menu)
The Lobster risotto was outrageous! Truffle mashed potatoes were also really good. The Fruits De Mar was also a homerun. Very friendly wait staff. This place is a must if you like fresh food. Skip dessert... the warm chocolate cake was not warm??
We were so relived to have a locally owned, independent, upscale restaurant recommended to us in Myrtle Beach - it seems hard to find.
And we had a wonderful meal here! The food was fresh, expertly prepared and fantastically presented. There were three people in our party and we each ordered our own salad and then shared several small plates and appetizers. It was the perfect amount of food. We had enough room for dessert (try the bread pudding even if you don't like bread pudding!), which is rare. We didn't order off their wine list, but enjoyed cocktails. All around, it was an excellent meal and we highly recommend it!
Food was great but portions were small. Really nice wait staff and the food was cooked perfectly. Â I would eat here again for sure but I really did not like the "artistic naked women" on the wall. Â The rest of us call that porn and when your on a date with your wife that is not something I want to see.
Review Source:This restaurant is tucked out of the way in a strip mall on Kings Highway in North Myrtle Beach. Â I am really glad my wife and I found this place. Â A friend from Little River recommended it and I was very impressed. Â It is far removed from the usual vacation grub of fried seafood and funny hats. Â
I had Scallops for an appetizer and they were large, succulent and perfectly cooked. Â My tenderloin was one of the best I have ever had. Â
My wife had the specialty of the day, which I can't remember right now. Â It was a snapper based dish and was wonderful.
Service was attentive and friendly. Â I would highly recommend this place to get away for an evening with the kids left to play putt putt or play on the beach, under supervision of course. lol
This is a rare find in MB. Seablue is located in North MB, within a strip mall and is easy to miss. However, the food is great and the service is impeccable.
The food is innovative modern american. They have a decent wine list as well as a full bar. The appetizers were creative and yummy. They even had a degustation menu. All in all a great restaurant for true foodies.
So I see from other reviews here that Sea Blue used to be a tapas restaurant. No more. Which is good bc I hate tapas places. Â What my wife and I DO like is fine dining. Sea Blue is about as close to that as we've found in Myrtle Beach. In the land of pancake houses, theme restaurants, seafood buffets and "Calabash" this and "Calabash" that, Sea Blue is a welcome change.
Great wine list, excellent foie gras, all around great menu. I had the porcini crusted black grouper with risotto and it was amazing.
If you are looking for a great "date night", white tablecloth type restaurant in MB, this is your place. Overlook the strip mall location, though!
One would never guess that this restaurant was in Myrtle Beach, and especially in the little strip shopping center where it lives.
As others have said, this is no longer a tapas restaurant. It is a great high-end food spot with an eclectic menu.
Let me start with the great stuff.......
1) Fresh herbs and some vegetables grown on-site, right outside the door. The basil on my caprese salad tasted like it was just picked- that's because it was.
2) Great flavors in the fish dishes. We had the grouper with a mushroom risotto, and the Fruits of the Sea with scallops, shrimp, and lobster over a lobster risotto Delicious, rich flavors.
3) Extensive wine list. Reasonably priced, great wines (we had Sonoma Cutrer at $45), but $15-$500 bottles are available.
4) The atmosphere was cool and intimate. It is a small place with just 14 tables inside, a few tables on the patio, and a small bar area. The entire restaurant is washed in blue light. The walls are decorated with pieces from the owner's personal collection.- most contemporary art. Â I don't want to rave about the atmosphere, but it was nice- and different - for myrtle beach. Loud bar patrons could definitely put a damper on the experience, as voices carry in this place.
5) Real Kobe beef. Market priced. We didn't order it on this trip, but it looked delicious at a neighbor table.
One reviewer here complains about portion size. My opinion was that they were on the smallish side, but certainly not inadequate.
Parties of 2-6 will be comfortable here. One other note, they do have a kids menu with some good choices. So, if you have a child along, it won't break the bank.
This place is a breath of fresh air at Myrtle Beach. If you want a 120 item buffet, this is not the place. If you want a step up from Outback or Bonefish, and have a nice dinner in intimate surroundings, you'll love it.
Our bill-- Two Entrees, 1 appetizer, 1 salad, 1 bottle of the aforementioned wine, and tax- $141 dollars.
Support local, fine dining spots like this one where you can. And, god knows, Myrtle Beach needs 'em.
Great food, great experience. Â Our family went here for a celebration, wanting to experience something different and better than the typical chain or average local restaurant and we weren't disappointed. Â We all went with the 7 course tasting menu and it was fantastic - I would highly recommend it. Â The chef creates the dishes on the fly based on what he has in the kitchen that night (taking into account any allergies or food preferences). Â Each course was presented by the chef (who was very personable and is also the owner). Â It was a bit pricey but a great value considering the amount of food vs. what the average ticket would have been for a standard 2-3 course meal. Â The wait staff was average - friendly enough and somewhat knowledgeable (it was early in the summer season so they were probably still in training). Â The food was great and the experience was everything we were looking for - especially compared to the glut of mediocre restaurants in the Myrtle area. Â We will definitely be back!
Review Source:Sea Blue is on my list of one of the best 5 star restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area. They are kind of pricey, but have some of the best food in town. The new owners expanded the menu to have full meals and a larger choice of great food, and that has really helped to bring me back.
Excellent choice for a real good dinner!
SeaBlue is one of the (admittedly few) contemporary fine dining gems on the Grand Strand. Â It is no longer a tapas restaurant.
The menu is in line with big city counterparts, and comparable quality is delivered. Â I recently had the coffee-crusted duck breast w/ foie gras stuffing, and it was excellent. Â Perfectly cooked, nicely sauced, tasty.
SeaBlue's wine list is outstanding, and distinguishes itself with an excellent selection of wines by the glass.
My only real complaint is that the portion size of my wife's entree, a seafood medley over lobster risotto. Â It was rather glaringly small.
I would describe Sea Blue as a very average tapas experience. Food was good, but very forgettable (cannot remember being struck by any entree in particular). However, considering there is not much in the way of culinary offerings in the Myrtle Beach area, this was one of the better dining experiences of my trip. We ate rather early (6:30 p.m.), so it was very empty while we were there. Maybe it perks up as the evening progresses?? Also, don't go there expecting to get your $$ worth. I felt the menu was very overpriced.
Review Source:This beautiful little hideaway is a small treasure for discriminating palates. The owners overlooked nothing in creating this visual and dining delight; they even added lighting over the end of the bar after we griped about it. We tried the Fried Oysters with Wasabi Aioli, Pan Sauted Lump Crab Cakes, Seared Scallops, Carolina Sweetwater Rainbow Trout, Oregon Lamb, Venison, Sea Bass and Petite Fillet with Crumbled Gorgonzola and Balsamic Syrup. The filet and lamb were "Excellent," while the others were "good." We also found the Groth Sauvignon Blanc to be an exceptional compliment to our fare. While defiantly not for the budget diner, we're already hooked on it! Reservations are strongly suggested.
