Last night's dinner was nothing short of outstanding. From the very start of the evening, the wait staff was professional and courteous, and the atmosphere was comfortable. Â The manager, Tia, was delightful. She was very personable and helped to ensure that our evening was perfect. The cuisine was magnificent. The "Seafood Tower" for example, was astonishing. It consisted of king crab, lobster, and shrimp, all of which were fabulously fresh, and were perfectly paired with a cocktail sauce and drawn butter. Â I was so satisfied with my evening that I plan to return to Seagar's the next time I visit the Hilton at Destin, and plan on referring friends in the near future. Seagar's is an absolute must!
Review Source:We had previously visited for special occasions and gotten a booth for 2. Â This time, even with a reservation we were on the bottom level and not as private. Â The restaurant just had a major renovation and is very updated. Â The Calamari appetizer was delicious and was the Caesar salad. Â We could not eat all of our portions so we asked for the leftover Calamari to go. Â They threw it away. Â We also asked for or left over steak and lobster to go. Â That we got, albeit grudgingly, as if no one ever asked for a "doggie bag." Â I am petite and weigh just under 100 lbs. Â I enjoy food, but I can't eat big portions. I rather sample many things and just take my leftovers for the next day. Â We waited a very long time for sometime to give us a wine list. Â Then a long time to take a wine order. Â The wine list is on an iPad and the "Captain" was definitely not used to using it. Â It was like they kept stalling to start our dinner experience. Â It's o.k. if the staff is delayed and needs to buy time, but setting us up with wine and bread goes a long way. Â We waited about 10 minutes with only water before we even saw a winelist, much less a menu. Â It seemed like for the top dollar we paid, the meal was $360. including the $95 Cakebread Chardonnay, the service should have been much better and it seems like it was in the past. Â I may try it again, but it'll be a while. Â Maybe they have new kinks they are working out...but I could only give it 3 stars due to service not meeting the price point.
Review Source:Since my wife and I had such an outstanding meal here last July 4th holiday when we were in town, we were really looking forward to another great evening. What happened to this place in just one year? I do not mind paying top dollar for excellence, but this place has really slipped. Neither my wife or I thought the dinner captain was very warm in nature and the help seemed really inexperienced. Since you see the preparation of your dinner in an amphitheater type seating arrangement, you see allot of what's going on in the kitchen. I saw my $60 bone in fillet sit under a light for awhile, then a food runner was handed the dish by the chef. Next, we watched the runner walk around the restaurant looking for our table. This is supposed to be a top notch restaurant. My fillet was bland and overpowered by the Maytag topping. My wife's tuna was way too thick a piece to be seared and served properly because it was cold inside. I know it's supposed to be rare inside and seared on the outside, but this was cold.
I have recommended this place to many others during the last year, but I will not do that again. There are too many other choices out in this industry. This place has definitely changed and not for the better.
A steakhouse has to do a few things correctly. Â First, they have to have excellent meat. Â Second, they have to have excellent service. Â Third, they have to have a super hot hostess with a dude's name that I would still like to take out for a drink while I admire her hair(edit: her name was wesley).
Okay the third one is not really necessary, but it's nice(thanks girl). Â I took my dad here for his birthday dinner tonight, and the entire experience was extraordinary. Â They made a souffle for him, and played happy birthday on the piano when it came out. Â The food was all excellent, and I will break it down thusly:
1)My wahoo filet? Â Gorgeous. Â Risotto was fantastic, creamy without being overpowering in flavor.
2)My dad's prime rib + lobster tail was divine - excellent flavor, and the cut of meat was perfect.
3)My mom's crab dish was perfect as well - light, served with fresh bok choy and other vegetables.
4)My brother's steak was perfect. Â A truly perfect steak.
5)My brother's wife's lobster was also perfect, broiled to perfection and served simply with drawn butter.
6)Foie gras. Â I wish it was served more simply, perhaps with just some toasted brioche, but it was still delicious.
What else do you need? Â Oh, a lovely 1998 margaux margaux for only 140 dollars? Â Check. Â A perfect beajoulais for the main entrees, fruity and light, complementary instead of complimentary? Â Yeah, we had that too. Â Service that was attentive without being obtrusive? Â Yeah, we got that too.
The price was...within reason. Â Of course, I don't really care what the price was because my dad had a goddamn blast, and when it's your dad's 65th birthday, no amount of money can pay for the kind of experience that makes him glad that he's alive, and that his prodigal son is not a complete jackass. Â I'd give 5 stars but the prices were a bit high on the appetizers. Â Everything else was quite reasonable.
Also, the Destin Hilton has some seriously hot girls walking around...I almost went after a blonde dessert, but I thought better of it. Â Another time, alas!
I have to write this review with some sadness. I first ate here about eight years ago and was amazed. I would have given it a five star rating at that time. My wife and I tried it again tonight and was sorely disappointed. Â We had reservations and did not have to wait. On sitting, we had somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 waiters/waitresses. The first guy was kind of a arrogant prick, but it really didn't matter to us. A second waitress actually took care of us for most of the meal, and she was very pleasant and very attentive. Â The menu has changed, and we ordered two appetizers, the lobster bisque, which was horrible, and a Neapolitan crab dish that was pretty good. I ordered a wedge salad that was okay, but not spectacular. For entree, my wife had the filet and I had the bone in filet with the maytag bacon topping. While the filets were both cooked correctly, there was no real flavor to the meat. The topping on mine way outdid the flavor of the steak, which was quite bland. My wife felt the same about her steak. For desert, she had the brownie overload and I had the creme brule which were both ok. The bill was $209, which was way more than I felt our meal was worth. I have had much better steaks at much lower prices. For a place that prides itself on steak, we were both disappointed.
Review Source:Had high expectations with all the hype, but I've had better steak and lobster dinners in Nashville. The steak, while perfectly cooked, it lacked in any type of flavor and flair. My wife had the grilled Main Lobster. When asked how she liked it, she said she'll never have lobster grilled again. It was a big disappointment but only because of the food. The wait staff was excellent and they had a huge wine list. The proportions were big, so if you like desert, I would suggest passing on appetizers.
Review Source:the food was amazing but the service and knowledge of the staff was very disappointing. Â ok we were sat down and it took them ten minutes before a waiter came our way and greeted us. keep in mind, our water glasses still empty. we had to ask for a wine and cocktail menu. just mediocre service. when I hear 5 star, there are higher expectations. they need to train there employees.
Review Source:Not impressed. First waited 15 min for waiter, then waited another 15 for menu's after our "waiter???" said someone else had to bring our menus. Â No problem, but then we were then rushed to drink our wine and they brought the "dinner/entree" wine perviously ordered before dinner with our salads even thou we still had half full glasses of our app/salad wine. Â Not happy with this place. Â I give it 4stars for location/ ambiance and 1star for service.
Review Source:I'm not sure about the steaks, as my wife and I just wanted to order dessert. We only ordered one item, the signature chocolate souffle, and were prepared to wait the requisite 20 minutes to prepare the dish. Well, an hour later we're told the "souffle fell, was overcooked and not serveable." We tried again as we were enjoying ourselves in the lounge and the place had such an impressive reputation. Why not give them another chance? Another half hour of waiting only to find out the order never went in. So that's two hours for two drinks and an incorrect order. At least we heard some fine piano music, watched most of Game 6 of the Heat/Mavs, and a party of four at the bar get served a full meal, two souffles and their leftovers packaged up while we waited. Our server and manager were apologetic, after we had to ask where our order was the first and then second time. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Seagar's. They've received great reviews, but missed the mark with us.
Review Source:We expected to spend a lot of $$$$ here by looking at the menu. They only open for dinner time. A lot of famous people visited Seagar's by signing their plates and shown outside. The service was top notch and very tentative. We ordered Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon. They were  delicious and perfectly cooked, even though I am still biased toward Chops' and Bones' Filet Mignon and steaks in Atlanta (which are my favorite steakhouse all time). Seafood definitely better than Chops/Bones. Ambiance is better at Seagar's, but I care more about the food than the ambiance, just a matter of preference :)
