I love East County dive bars and this is in the top three.

Meh. Drinks are cheap and strong enough, but the crowd is iffy and the service isn't the best. I've been in twice now and am not super impressed. Also, I hear they sometimes charge a $5-$10 cover (even on weeknights) when bands are playing? I'm not trying to see a random band on a Wednesday night..

I grew up in the Hollywood Hills and recently moved here from the bay area, I am not used to venues like this.  To me this place is one step above a dive bar.  Each time we have gone (3) a very loud metal band was playing.  There are only 2 pool tables which are inconveniently located.  The drinks are bad.  The dance floor is a nice size, now if they only had bands worth meandering on to it for.

For Santee, this bar gets 5 stars. I've been here on the weekends and each time saw a live band with no cover charge. The drinks are half price during set breaks and the people are East County's finest. A full shot of Hornitos for 3.50? Yes, please.  It's not the young hip place to be, but that gets dull. I took my mom here with some of my friends because the majority of the people in there are in her age group. The night consisted of dancing with my friends to the 6one9 band on the dance floor when were joined by an old motorcycle dude wearing knee high ugg boots and a head of long gray hair. There is always opportunity for some people watching here.

Its a pretty good place. On weekends there is a $5 cover charge, and drink prices increase slightly when the band starts playing, but thats the price of having a live band. Steve invested in a good sound system so the music sounds good in there. I guess I would call it your upper echelon dive bar.

For a sleezy dive bar close to home its not so bad & comparing them to the other choices that Santucky has to offer, this one is better than the others.

So there are two different Second Winds on magnolia posted on here (not to mention a third one which exists on Navajo rd.) so i enie menie minie mowed and this one won.

This place is pretty cool as far as dive bars go. I've only been here during the week (3 times) so I can't speak for the weekend crowd. When I've been here there are usually only a handful of people at best. I personally like this cause most the time I like to sit back and drink beer without being bothered as I relax from the stresses of the day. As I said earlier, its a dive bar so don't expect anything too nice. The place has dated stuff on the walls and some of the paneling highlights that this place is a dive, but that's why you come here. The people were super friendly even if they looked like a cross between Toby Keith and dog the bounty hunter. The bar tenders have always been really nice and they have always given me a free beer or shot here or there. Not to mention the prices are pretty good across the board to begin with.

So, with the expectations of being a dive in east county, this surpassed my expectations. I couldn't in my right mind give it a 5th star because of small stuff like only having 6 beers on tap with 2 being bud. Some of the chairs need fixing. Some paint on some of the stuff would help without taking away from the dive aspect. To me, this place is great and I will go back lots.

On a side note, the place is really big with tons of seating at the bar and at plenty of tables. There is a shuffle board game and pool tables. There is a huge dance floor and a large stage (they have live music Thursday through Saturday I believe). There is a big parking lots with plenty of spaces to park and there is a jack in the box next door that has a 24 hr. drive through for late night cravings.

    Cheers!

As dive bars go, I'm a fan of this place. It's a nicer than average dive, with a nice, big stage for the live bands, which are usually an eclectic mix.  They have a good mix of drinks and a decent selection of beer, which is always nice. A big plus? $5 for an extra large bottle of Arrogant Bastard! Horray! There's also loads of seating and various classic bar games like pool. Parking is also plentiful. Only real complaint is the sound is always way too loud for a bar setting, and the DJ between bands loves playing Disturbed.

I don't really consider myself a "dive-bar/nite-life" aficionado, but having been in a few, this one is pretty good. Ah-come on now, really.
I have 1 really (ok 2) complaints. The bathroom has no air (ugh).. if you've been here you know. The other is my heels (my shoes & their heels) always stick to the floor, now that's a bit gross.
I find that they have done quite a bit of work to really get more to come & listen (& watch the bands) here.
Stage- larger, more sound, and a bit more into their lighting show. this all worthy for the"live" venue.
Now as for the people that come here... hey you've got your regulars, & us others who drive out to get a treat of the live bands.
This place is worth going to.
