Holy crap... I must have gone on a bad night. I don't even know where to start. My parents have lived in the St. Simons Island area for some time now and I see the Shak all the time. I keep saying I need to stop there for dinner and I finally did. Let me preface this with the fact that I was a server for years. I get it...but......there is only so much you can handle. First off, margaritas where off the chain.. best thing about the whole night. But the fact that for almost 45 minutes we didn't have silverware, plates or water just didn't sit right with me. This was AFTER we had our appetizers. Had to eat off a napkin, with my hands. I ordered Oysters... after 20 minutes they told me they were out. I ordered crab clusters. "Are you sure you have them?" "yes"..... 10 minutes later, they were out. Got an order of fish tacos.. and the tacos literally where the shells you can buy at Win Dixie on the island. Aren't they suppose to be in flour tortillas? I wasn't impressed. Oh, and by the way.. what happened to our shrimp and soup we ordered? The kitchen forgot. It was just a complete mess....complete cluster. Â I really really wanted to like this place... I hope the management reads this. It needs some major help for it to out last it's competition in this coastal town.
Review Source:My dad and I go here everytime I am in town and I love it. Â Casual atmosphere, good service and good food. Â Tuesdays are .25 cent wing night and they come in a variety of flavors. Â The Oysters are available shucked or you can shuck them yourself for a cheaper price. Â Or, if you just like to shuck. Â lol. Â The oysters are better when they are in season but still fun to hang out for a cool beer etc. Â Large menu with a variety of bar food type things to order. Â Love it.
Review Source:What a great place. The oysters are outstanding aswell as the shrimp. They have a new menu starting tomorrow. I'm having the greek salad with cajun shrimp. The Bloody Mary's need a little dressing up but are tasty. The ambiance is Margaritaville with live music on Weds. Tasty and fun.
Review Source:We had the seafood platter grilled and a bucket of steamed oysters. Â It was delicious and fresh. Â The fried corn on the cob is battered and deep fried but not very crispy. Â
Great service - the bartender came over to check on us every 10 minutes. Â He gave us some oyster-shucking tips after watching us struggle for an hour and even shucked some for us! Â
Skip the overpriced mediocrity on St. Simon's island. Â Come here instead & hang with the locals.
Went here for dinner because they sell crab legs by the cluster... definately wouldn't go back for them. Â The big part of the crab leg was done okay, but the smaller parts where there is still meat were WAY overcooked and the crab meat was hard!! Â Needless to say, I was a bit disappointed. Â They do get an additional star because they have fried corn on the cobb... battered & fried corn on the cobb people. Â It was yummy.
Review Source:Want some big, cheap oysters? Â This is your place.
I arranged for a group of 20 to eat here Friday night. Â Some of us started at the bar (big shout out to Brian for his fine service!) and were happily shocked at the cheap drinks. Â We have no idea if it was happy hour or not, but our tab left us with big smiles. Â As our group arrived, the servers put together several tables so we could all sit near each other. Â The tables were picnic style, and seated about 4 per table. Â We were assigned one server, Jessica, who did an outstanding job in taking care of us.
The menu features oysters (shocking), Georgia shrimp, various seafoods and some non seafood entries. Â Oysters can be served raw, steamed, fried and in a Rockerfeller style they've named Shackafeller. Â A half dozen ran 5.95, and they were HUGE. Â I was accidentally shorted one, and instead of bringing one, they brought two. Â Nice. Â I also ordered a fried shrimp Po'Boy, which came with fries. Â That ran me about 8-9 dollars (can't remember which at the moment). Â The sandwich had just enough shrimp, and tasted pretty good. Â
Everyone seemed to be very happy with their orders; I had a chance to sample somone's crab cake and was pleased. Â
I can tell you the place was packed while we were there and when I had done the advance on it on a Tuesday night at 8:30pm, it was packed then too! Â I took that to be a good sign. Â
Parking is not a problem. Â There are some spots directly in front of the restaurant, as well as a lot across the street. Â It can be somewhat difficult to find, but it is right on Hwy 17 (Glynn Avenue) and the causeway that goes to St. Simon's Island.
