Where do I start. First of all, it was our first time. When we entered, the hostess, who could care less that we came in, gave us an unenthusiastic hello, disregarded our request to sit at the bar, and sat us in area that was cold and drafty. We were really hungry so we sat down anyway. Our waiter comes out, and never mentioned his name. Real in personable. By our lack of a southern accent, and my San Francisco giants sweater, he should have known we were not from around here. We ordered salads and onion rings for dinner, a) it was late , 9pm and b) we in a hurry to get back to our hotel. The Gorgonzola salad on mixed greens was horrible. It was bland and made from iceberg lettuce. I had the spinach salad with salmon. The fish was ok, but the balsamic dressing was not good. Real tangy, not like a real balsamic. Truly something the south should not attempt. When the  waiter came out after serving our meal, he did not offer me a second beer,  and never asked how our food was.  At the end of the meal, or wen we were done looking t our half teen plates, I asked for the manager. This young puke comes out and could barely speak for himself. I politely asked for him to remove the Gorgonzola salad from the bill. When I was given flack because t was half gone, I told I'm we ate because we were starving. With some back and forth he finally took it off the bill. In reality, I should not have paid for ether entree. This place is not good for salads. I would have eaten something the waiter recommended,  but like I said, that did not happen.

I had never wrote a restaurant review but I got to say something about this place.  My husband and I took a guest who drove 4 hours to visit us to this place for dinner Friday evening.  We entered the restaurant with a 7 mo baby and saw a host's (a guy in a yellow shirt) smug and hostess' expressionless face toward us.  Definately not welcoming attitude for a host and a hostess.  One of the hosts took us to a table at the end of the building where it was surrounded by glass windows, dark and chilly when I saw 5 or more tables available in the middle.  Because we were not so picky about seating, we just sat down. But I wrapped my baby in a blanket and wore my jacket because it was cold.  The food were too salty and we kept on drinking water.  My gorgonzola steak salad looked like it was sat on the table for 3 hours- dry, tasteless steak. The waitress seemed so busy and we had to wait 10 or more minutes to get refills.  And she came to us when we were still working on the food- about half of the food still left on the plates, asking if we wanted desserts or a check. She brought the check in the middle of the eating. It was around 7:30 pm and I didn't understand why she had to rush and ruined our mood for Friday night.  My guest literally said that he had never been to a restaurant where the chicken stir-fry could be this salty and bad and a waitress was rude.  I felt bad to take him to this restaurant when my husband wanted to go somewhere else.  We won't go to this place again.  Avoid rude staff and "not worth the money" food.

I forgot to mention it.  I got sick after eating the gorgonzola steak salad.  I am up at 3 AM because I am having diarrhea and stomachache.

So I should have written this review a long time ago.
We stopped here on our 20 hour drive from Bonnaroo back to New England in June '12 we stoppas at 9 or so in the evening it was slow and our server was awesome!  The food is what it is , it's nice because you're not at a chain restaurant however the feel is similar.
Like I said though , most important the service .
Our waitress was very friendly , really wish I could Remeber her name , we got nachos and buffalo tenders and a number of apps, the tenders were nothing special, but when they didnt have guacamole for the nachos our waitress went out of her way late on a rainy Monday night to make something for us and just all around was very helpful and friendly.
Her service that compelled me to write the review, we were random travelers not knowing what to expect and we were pleasantly greeted/treated/surprised .  See you next year as we pass through!
Oh and I found your business in yelp as well

Makes a good stop on a trip through the area. Can't get excited about a place that's no different than the countless other 'family style' places around. You get what you pay for, but don't expect too much.

Average family type place. Agree with the other reviewers...it is like another Chili's OR Applebee's.

My midway lunch stop on my trip from Harrisburg PA, to Knoxville TN. It was quiet for lunchtime on a Wednesday which was nice to not have to deal with a lot of screaming children. I met up with a friend so we could try their BBQ sliders and burgers. Everything was relatively flavorful for a chain type restaurant. I would give it another shot for some of their other offerings if I ever find myself around here again.

I was hoping against reason to find a place that had the Giants game on  during my first night in Roanoke.  I tried out the first sports bar that showed up on Yelp.  When I walked in, I knew I was in luck.  They proudly displayed their MLB package subscription in the front.  I asked the bartender if they could possibly put the Giants on.  In less than a minute, not only did I have the Giants on, but every TV in my view had been turned to baseball.

I was watching four games at once and the manager was talking to me about baseball.  He was an extremely friendly fellow and VERY knowledgeable about sports.  He asked me some great trivia questions and we spent some time talking.  He repeatedly came back to check on me and see if I had figured out his trivia riddles.  Thanks to him, I now know seven ways a player can get on first base without recording a hit (I got five on my own), the two days of the year in which no major sports are ever played and the nine major sports team names that do not end in "s."

The rest of the staff was equally friendly.  Maybe everyone in the south is like this, but I still found it endearing.  The bartenders had good beer knowledge and, while not particularly chatty, they were social.  The food was good, right along the lines of what I expected.

This place is exactly what I was looking for when I first wandered in to this town.  I'm so happy I found it on the first night.  I will definitely be coming back here multiple times, until the staff can't stand me any more!

As I wait for one of my xbox downloads to finish, I try and pop out a review.  Shakers is one of those places that is so average I can pop out a review in maybe 30 seconds.

The food is pretty much like ______ (Fill in the blank with Chili's, Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday or any chain.)  I had the chicken tenders as I thought they were a big deal here.  I was wrong.  They are pretty much like any other chicken tender out there.  The cheddar soup was good.  If you like chain restaurants like the aforementioned, you'll like this place.  If not, then probably not.

Service was good and the decor would even satisfy Farva and his like of Shenanigans (movie reference).  Not a bad choice.

I typically wouldn't visit this kind of restaurant, because it's mostly stuff you can cook at home, but I was traveling for business.  As it turns out, this meal was very tasty.  I had the Chesepeake chicken (at the suggestion of my waitress) and it was great, even if it might not be super healthy.

As another reviewer mentioned, I was originally taken aback by the plate that came out because it seemed like the portion was small, but I finished full.  It also helped that I scarfed down a whole mini-load of pumpernickel bread, very similar to the kind that Outback Steakhouses have made famous.  The au gratin potatoes were in a perfect block, which made me wonder if they were pre-made and frozen, but they tasted fine.

My server was friendly and apologized when she took too long to bring me a water refill, even though I didn't think I had waited very long.  It was clear she cared that I was enjoying my meal and I appreciate that.

The TVs in the bar aren't very big and several of them are old CRT variety, but fortunately I wasn't worried about watching any sports.

There was a happy hour drink special, but you had to order it from the bar.  I don't know why it didn't extend to the dining room.  That seems like an unnecessary rule.

Just stopped in here for the second time, I ordered the boca swiss burger and it was great! The au gratin potatoes are very good and the bread that they bring to the table before the food comes out is amazing! This place is definitely worth checking out!

Cheesy Chicken and Mushrooms, Gotta have it every time I go. This has been one of my longtime favorite restaurants. Always good and consistent quality.

Shakers is a low key sports bar-esq type of restaurant. When you walk in, you are met with a dim atmosphere with dark, heavy wooden tables, chairs, bar stools, doors and booths. They have a nice bar! It's really big - with lots of liquor choices, as well as a large selection of beer on tap. The bar is a fun place to eat for lunch.

While Shakers has the ability to be a family friendly place during the day and early evening, when the sun sets it's a more adult crowd. Sometimes on the weekends they even have live music - usually a local rock band.

Shakers has some seriously awesome food -- and its all cheap. My favorite things to start out with are either the spinach dip with tortilla chips or the broccoli and cheese soup. The spinach dip is like this warm, cheesy, creamy goodness with warm crunchy chips and the broccoli soup has this very smooth, rich flavor with big chunks of soft broccoli florets.

Moving onto the main entree.... My favorite for dinner is the Grilled Chicken Chesapeake with steamed broccoli and the cinnamon apples as side dishes. MMM! It's chicken, shrimp, crab, and sauteed mushrooms with this really savory, light sauce on top. If I'm not in a meat eating mood, I almost always opt for the pasta primavera -- I don't know how they do it, but the vegetables in the primavera are ALWAYS perfectly tender and sweet. It's like however they cook them is timed perfectly to bring out all the sweetness.

For lunch, i normally gravitate towards one of Shakers house specialties - The Southern Fried Salad which is chicken tenders, ham, cheddar cheese, tomato, almonds and crunchy fresh greens with the honey mustard dressing. It's a HUGE portion, very filling and is served with soft, melt in your mouth cheese bread.

    Dessert....

My favorites are both Shakers House Specials - the Mocha Mud pie which is a conglomeration of chocolate, vanilla and coffee ice cream with oreo crust and chocolate sauce, and the warm apple crisp which is rum flavored apple pie filling with a crunchy, flakey pecan crust.

Don't get me wrong -- these  are just my personal favorites-- I've NEVER had anything bad at Shakers!! If you're in the area, go here!! It's literally right down the street from the Roanoke airport, and airport hotels!

While scouting the area for potential relocation, we stayed overnight up around the Valley View Mall and ate here at Shakers since it was close-by.  I've never heard of the place before but walking in gave the feel of a franchise place like TGIFridays or Outback Steakhouse.  The prices were a little more than we were used to but that could be attributed to being in a larger city (our hotel was $140/night where we're more accustomed to an average of $90/night).

My wife got the crab cake sandwich and I got chicken florentine, while our daughter just got a cheeseburger & fried apples.  Admittedly, when the plates arrived I was a little disappointed by the size of the portions but the food was very good and we actually left feeling full.

My biggest complaint was how low the seats felt compared to the height of the table.  And the sweet tea was a little weak.
