Food here is great and the late night bar menu has giant portions for the price. the onion rings come in a brown paper bag and are filled to the top. cooked nicely but could use some Russian or horseradish sauce on the side. drinks are fairly priced. trivia on Tuesdays is always fun and the occasional live band.
my only huge complaint is the service.i was sitting at the bar and i felt like me and my friends were being ignored. at several points during the night we were dying of thirst and all four of the bartenders continually walked right past us. i want to buy more drinks from you and your going to sit there and text or talk with your friends wth. then at the end of the night i was sitting at the bar waiving my credit card attempting to close my tab for 20 minutes.
i plan on going back here and hop that the service is better because i really want to give this place a 5 star review.

This is one of those places every you know has been to at one time or another.
A great little place to come hang out with a few friends. They tend to have good music playing and lots of good people , its actually a pretty good mix of things.

The wait staff its great , the drinks aren't too bad price wise. The food is ok , not terrible but nothing really stands outs.

It can get a little crowded late on a weekend but fantastic place to stop by in the early day

Centrally located for a lot of people i know all over so a good place to get a bunch of people from all over to meet up at.

I came here on a coworker's request during Trivia night (Tuesdays at 9pm in case you are wondering) and I had a good time. I ordered fries and this brownie with vanilla ice cream. Both were good. The fries came in this cone shaped basket thing and the brownie with vanilla ice cream were a good size for its price. I knocked off a star due to slow service. I wanted my bill so that I can leave earlier and sleep for work the next day, but our waitress didn't come around till trivia is over.

ok so ive been here about 1,000 times. ive come for lunch, dinner, going out on a friday, saturday night, happy hour, teacher appreciation happy hours.

On friday night, they have a dj and the crowd is a bit young - they are in their 20s. Good music, good drinks.
Saturday night- they have bands and its a bit of an older crowd . Depending on the band, it could be a good or ehhh night.

when the weather is nice, they have outdoor seating and a small outdoor bar.

food is pretty good- I've eaten a variety of things from their salads to burgers to wraps to dessert. The food is fair- not bad, but nothing great either.

I mainly come  here to meet up with friends and to have some drinks..

Any good local bar is great news for me!

Great place to grab a drink and hang. Food is okay here depending on what you order. The happy hour portions are soooo small. I would recommend a sandwich dish like the Shannon Rose club or turkey wrap. This is a great social gathering - you will see all walks of life here (young, old, jerzey shore types, "normal" people)

Our waitress sucked. Our check was wrong and the food was all dried out.
Over prices and not at all impressed. We were a low maintenance group and the place was dead,. I guess I would only come here for drinks..

Came here on a Saturday afternoon after a few friends raved about how good the food was, they mentioned three magic words that made my expectation high. They have chicken pot pie, they said.  So I came with all the happiness a chicken pot pie gives.

We were immediately seated as soon as we got in and the waitress we got was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was nice and the restaurant had a good feel too it.  My bf got the spinach artichoke dip and I got the disco tots which is gravy and cheese on the tots while for our entree we decided to share the chicken pot pie.  After almost an hour of waiting our food finally came, the spinach dip was delicious  but the tots was disappointing. Other than a nice crunch to it, the taste was nothing to rave about.  It was just salty, but not tasty. Still my faith did not waver, I waited patiently for the chicken pot pie and once it came I dug into it with hurried excitement which was immediately extinguished by its mediocre taste.  The sauce was bland and I ended up adding salt in it to compensate for the taste, it came with a piece of soda bread which I enjoyed more than the pot pie.  And so it ended, my high expectation for their pot pie, but my search continuous for the tastiest pot pie in New York.

On a side note, some friends ordered burgers and they enjoyed their food more than I did.  Maybe their burgers are just better than the pot pie? So for my order, I would have to give Shannon Rose two stars.  Would I come back, probably not, but overall a  decent experience.

Yelp's two star rating of "Meh" is exactly what I am thinking in regard to my post-Shannon Rose experience.

We went here on a Saturday night, around 6:30. My friend and I just wanted some small apps and some drinks, so my review is limited to those menu items. We didn't have to wait long for seating, so that was good.

    Shannon Rose PROS:
+ Our waiter was very patient with us and effectively explained the drink specials and craft beer specials.
+ I LOVE the decor. The inside has comfortable furniture and a cozy feel to it. There's also some lovely stained glass on the windows that creates a good ambiance. The restaurant is very spacious.
+ There's also lots of outdoor seating.

    CONS:
    - The shopping plaza in which Shannon Rose is located is labyrinthine.
-The prices are high for pub fare.
-We tried a new app on their menu (potato croquettes). It was 8 bucks for five "bite sized" pieces of fried potato. They were decent, but nothing too impressive. The soups were fine. The brownie dessert was ok, but it tasted like something that was totally premade. I recognize that restaurants get some of their desserts from outside vendors, but could it at least taste "homemade"?

Perhaps I should give some of their burgers and actual food a chance, but "Meh" is not urging me back anytime soon.  I wanted to really like The Shannon Rose, but my experience was "meh" and I can't really imagine going back. We contemplated going to Applebees's (in the same plaza) and, in retrospect, maybe we should have gone there.

I came here w the Wife craving a burger , I recalled at one point seeing a billboard saying the Shannon Rose won some sort of best burger award. I tried the "Murder Burger", a deep fried burger (bun and all) w lettuce tomato, jalapeños, thousand island, onions, 2 cheeses etc. w all those flavors, it somehow seemed to lack flavor, it came w a small side order of fries, a really small side order, I think I counted 15 fries total lol
My wife ordered the Shannon Rose burger, this has to be good, it's their namesake right? She ordered med-well, it came out charred on the outside w the insides grey... No bueno
I asked the waitress for a good wheat beer, she recommended a raspberry wheat beer, it sucked too. That wasn't her fault, she was a sweetheart. Bad meal at the Shannon Rose, I left w a belly full of greasy flavorless burger and raspberry wheat beer.....
On a positive note, i really liked the atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon, we would've sat outside but it was a little cool and my Wife was a bit under the weather. The inside atmosphere was happening with an older fella offering some live music.
We may try SR again, can't make any promises though...

Typical yet solid American take on Irish pub-grub.  Never had the a-ha I gotta come back moment but that being said I've been there a dozen or so times because i've never been disappointed

Shannon Rose is pretty reliable for dinner. The food is better than you'd expect at an Irish Pub, and they have my favorite, cider on tap. You don't find that everywhere. In the summer they have a bar and tables outside. No one seems to mind when we bring our 2-year-old. It is often on the noisy side, particularly when there's a big game on, but that doesn't bother me. Definitely recommended.

This bar is always packed w/ the B & T crowd. I never have been here when it wasn't so it is hard to grab a spot at the bar but it has a lot of seating. It is a meat market so if you are looking for that scene in this area, visit it. If not, get a table, hang out and drink . Food is pub style and I think they could lower their prices but it is what it is. I would go here again and there is a Target, movie theatre and a Shop Rite nearby if you need to do errands. Just be careful if you drink & drive.

I was hoping I'd like this location better than the Woodbridge one.

    Nope.

I was going to give it a 2...because "Meh. I've experienced better." Literally. In Woodbridge.

    But then I felt mean.

We came to see a DJ play and was surprised at where she was set up...where the hell are you gon' dance wit dat tiny bit 'o room dere yonder, ya hear?

The Woodbridge location is two stories and we expected the same here...nope.

The exterior is nicer than the Woodbridge one...I'll give 'em that. I also like the amount of bartenders there were.

If you're a recovering alcoholic, do not come here.

Parking sucks if you want to park right next to the joint as opposed to parking in West Twilight Zone.

    Just a heads up:

One end also dead ends, so if you can't find a spot, you have to do a tight K-Turn to get back out and search for a place to park.

It  has been a while since I reviewed this place. It is still a perfect 3 star review. The food is good but nothing amazing. The place is always crowded on weekends after 9 for the bar scene. They uasually have bands playing in the back room.

It's been about four years since I've been to Shannon Rose and dammit it will NOT be another four before I back again.  Last week we had some mechanical issues at work...so WOO HOO, I took advantage of it and ended up here for lunch.

I was seated over by the bar at a high top since I was a single and ordered a Shannon Rose Amber Ale.  Looking over the menu I realized it changed a bit since my last visit, but so what, free day off...throw caution to the wind!  I ordered a French onion soup and a salad to start.  The salad was a basic side salad, but came with balsamic instead of the Russian I ordered...no biggie, what they gave me saved me a few calories and still tasted great.  And the soup was delicious, with a very nice cheese topping that wasn't overbearing; however, I prefer a darker soup (more flavorful) where they carmelize the onions a bit more...

For my entree I ordered corned beef sliders (3) and fries.  The sliders were tiny, maybe 2 1/2 bites each unless you're Bluto Blutarski (c'mon, Animal House Fans!).  The corned beef was just right, not too wet (fatty) or dry, but I'm glad I had the soup and salad. I wasn't expecting a lot from the fries, but I was wrong...perfectly done and tasty.  I have to say, I thought I'd be hungry when I finished, but I wasn't.

My waiter was super attentive and helpful, and even the manager came over to check on me.  The only possible negatives?  It gets a bit loud in the bar area even when it isn't packed and thus the TVs should have closed captioning...but I'm not taking away any stars for THAT.  I will be back...put money on it.

It's not really a pub.  It's like a pub-themed chain restaurant.  I like the live music when they have it but the place gets so crowded it's not even worth it.  The beer selection is corny and the food is sub-par.  Happy hour specials are poor.  Prices

The service is pleasant and the location is great since it's close to a few towns and services.  The place is huge too so it's good for big groups after work; you can always get a table for large numbers.  But given the first part of my review, it's not really worth it.

I stopped by with some friends on our way to see a movie.

I had the pulled pork sandwich, chicken tenders and fries. It's typical bar food and nothing really special about it.

The food was ok. I probably wouldn't be coming back unless this was the only place available around the area.

This place does not pretend to be something it is not. If you want a menu with some "americanized" Irish dishes , great beer and a cool atmosphere then this is your place. If you are older ( over 35 ) or have small children, then you don't want to come here during the High Time when the 20 somethings fill the place and get stupid. ( come on admit it, we were all there once.)
We have been here multiple times for lunch and brunch and love it.

First of all, the drinks are way over priced....they charge Hoboken and NYC prices for a drinks that barely have any booze and are all ice. The food is okay, nothing special but not terrible.

Most of the bartenders are terrible and rude. Last night a male bartender watched my friend and I get hassled twice by the same guy and said nothing and was more concerned with taking my money for the drink...instead of worry about the money he should have done the right thing and told the guy to leave us alone or call a bouncer. The place is flooded with big meat head bouncers anyway but this bartender was obviously too busy to worry about the safety of the guests.

If I never had to go there again i would be fine with that.

This seems to be a place that people love to hate (thanks in part to the guidos who occasionally make their way here, especially during St Patty's). But if you break it down (and don't stay after 8pm unless watching a game), on paper this is a really good establishment.

Location: Right off the highway, close to many major highways means it's easy for many people to get to. Plenty of parking means many people won't mind going.

Service: Hostesses are really nice, especially that really short one who's been there for what seems like forever. The wait staff is never bad. Sometimes average, sometimes better than average. The bartenders - well... let's just say I always get seated at tables from now on.

Food: I think the food is decent. They have the best garden burger. Not too big a fan of soy burgers, so this bean based burger is a nice treat. Their burgers are all served on english muffins. While it lacks the usual fluffiness I like in rolls, it serves as a better vehicle than some of the insubstantial buns I've seen in other places. My cousin swears by the Guiness wings. And I appreciate all the Irish twists on other foods (corned beef spring rolls, corned beef sliders).

Drinks: Great selection of beer. Often times the beer menu is outdated, but they always have a decent beer ready to replace what they previously had. I think it's more than 15 beers on tap (6-7 craft) and more than 30-40 beers in total.

Entertainment: Live rock bands and 1-2 person musical acts (can be too noisy for some people). Plenty of sports, especially football, on their TVs and (8-10ft?) projector. Large outdoor patio.

Value: They do run specials every so often. Hopefully they still have their tremendous Monday Night Football deal. However, every time I go back, it seems they raise the price of everything by $1.

I always wonder what youthful 20-something Irish gents and lasses would think of the Shannon Rose.... then I become truly ashamed of myself.  For wasting money here.  Because I never, ever, ever leave saying to myself.."Gee, what a great night!  I feel like I touched the Blarney Stone... truly tremendous!"

This is the kind of place that has a serious identity crisis... are you a knock-off pub?  Are you a restaurant that serves mediocre pub food?  Are you a sports bar?  Are you a club???

I do not know what is it about this place that makes me cringe at the mere MENTION of dining/boozing here.

The wait staff - from my experience at least - are much, MUCH easier to deal with than some of the bartenders.  Some of these people behind the bar need to remove the giant stick from up their ass and do their god damn job, and do it well.  When the barback is pouring me more drinks than your lazy ass - something is fucking wrong.  I want to tip HIM the twenty percent, not you.

Oh, did I mention the chick bartender ran my credit card twice.... charged me twice, actually, even after assuring me that one of the transactions would get deleted at the end of the night?  Hmmm.  I trust you no more, chick bartender.  This shit isn't hard to do.  I could have waited, and demanded, to watch her delete the transaction right then and there....but she assured me.. ASSURED ME.. that it would be "fine" and that she will "absolutely" correct it... HA.

So aside from this latest "wtf is wrong with me for agreeing to come here" moment... I have more smack to talk.

The food is average - and even then, it still sucks pretty bad.  Yeah, it's a chain, deal with it, I know.... most people probably don't care what they eat here, so long as it's reasonably edible, and soaks up the booze.  Do you come here for the food alone?  Probs not.  Most of the patrons that come here tend to get sloshed and make out with each other and probably catch a venereal disease.

Just, why?  Why the hell do I come here, repeatedly...?  I do not check in.  Because it's almost embarrassing.  I'm not in college anymore, I don't really like pretend Irish bars, and I always end up hitting the sauce way too hard in order to avoid the dreaded "did I really go to the Shannon Rose...again!?  Until LAST CALL...?!?!"  Yeah.  It's like that.

-The best burger in north Jerz or something?  Yeah no.
-The bangers and mash (and other traditional Irish delights)..?  Not awful, but certainly a far cry from being spectacular... but likely does the trick when you are in starvation mode.
-The Guinness - is it delicious?  Decent enough... but again!!  I fucking know when you don't pour that shit right.  I am STARING at you.. Holy crap.  I must look like a total newb.

I don't think I really would have written such a nasty review if I got that credit card thing straightened out.  But the reality is - I didn't keep a copy of my receipt (yup, I am an idiot) - and I kind of let it slide.. until 3 weeks later and I looked at my statement and it obviously was never taken care of.  Plus the amount of douchebaggery I have witnessed is kind of mind boggling.  Many other places I would rather go.

Whenever I take a rare night to hang out in Jersey over Manhattan, I like to meet friends here. This is a very chill bar with a nice menu selection and a respectable variety of beer on tap. They also have a pretty large outdoor space. Even though the view overlooks the parking lot (not too charming), it's still nice to have the option be out in the fresh air (or as fresh as Jersey air on Route 3 gets lol).

This is a great spot to watch a game or get together with friends. I was just there for the first time on a weekend and they had a live band in addition to games on TV in the main entrance area. So you can view the band or go outside or simply hang out in the front area where it's a little less noisy. I don't know about you, but I always appreciate options. :) Either way, it's a good spot that commands a nice crowd and it's also open until 3am which is rare for a Jersey bar/restaurant.

Irish Pub! That's great if you want a pint of Guiness or you want to hang with the fellas or it's GNO and have a drink.

WARNING!!! Do not eat here. The food is mediocre at best. The selection is very unhealthy and the healthy choices taste horrible. I've been here many times with friends and every time we ate, I did not enjoy the food.

If you are drunk and need some sustinance, go for it, but beware. You will probably gain about 5 pounds just having a salad.

The beer selection is great, many good imports and some decent domestics, which services every taste out there. Porters, Ales, Pilsners, even Lambics. Nice!

Shannon Rose has a *great* beer selection. I don't think I've ever seen another bar offer Boddington's or Smithwicks on tap.

The bar has live bands playing on a regular weekly basis. It is exceedingly loud during these times - I realize it's live music, but it's just impossible to hear a conversation no matter where you are in the place when a band is playing because of the acoustics. So, go there for the band, not the conversation.

I ordered an 12-oz sirloin steak here. It was as tough as leather and had a lot of fat...will not order that again, that's for sure. We went on long periods of time with no waiter - the guy just seemed to disappear.

So let me preface this review, i hate crowds and extreme loudness where i cannot hear my friends.

I came here yesterday on a Thursday night around 7pm and the place was not that crowded.  The service was terrible.  They gave us dirty dishes and when the lady came by to ask what was going on as soooon as i turned around to tell her, she pulled a ninja vanishing no jutsu.

In terms of food, i had the shannon rose burger which was pretty good.  I like it when places put their burgers on english muffins; i feel like it soaks up the juices much better and you don't end up with a soggy bun.  The sweet potato fries were old/stale and not great.  We also shared the boneless buffalo chicken wings, these were probably of the frozen variety, but hey if you fry anything...i'll probably eat and enjoy it.

So yea, as other people have noted it was pretty loud here.  I guess at first it was "bearable" between 7-10, however after 10 they dim the lights and blast the music and the place transforms to Shannon Rose Irish Club.

All in all i guess if your into the club, loud music, dance scene with decently attractive people in their 20-30s,  i suppose this may be the place for you.

If you wanted a bar to get something to eat/drink and catch up with friends you should go elsewhere.

It's Ladies Nite on Thursday nites at Shannon Rose in Clifton, NJ. All drinks are half price ladies, which includes almost all brands except really top top shelf stuff. Always a good time!!

Oh and I forgot to mention it starts at 9pm on Thurs and goes all night.

I came here for the first time on at wednesday night for a late dinner. It was 8:30 and I was surprised to find the place packed, there was a 25 minute wait for a table and the bar areas were all packed. I was happy to see it was nurse night.... There was a lot of females....not sure how many we're actually nurses.

I had the Guinness burger. It came on an English muffin with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was cooked a perfect medium and was thick and very juicy. I didn't really taste any Guinness, nonetheless I enjoyed the burger and fries.
    The service was ok.
The place is extremely loud and the crowd looked to be mostly 20 something's with a few older peeps like me mixed in.
The burger was good, but this really isn't the type of place I'd be into hanging at, too loud for me.

Never been there before 11pm, I'll update the review sometime when I go earlier for food, but as a place to go for late night drinks (last call is 2:45am on weekends) it's just not my speed. The atmosphere of the place seems far too nice for it to convert to a bar that is far too crowded,  far too loud, and far too full of Jersey Shore extras. The beer on tap is always off tasting to me, especially their Ciders, and their specialty shots are sugar water. Stick to bottles.

If you need somewhere to retreat to to fight back the night with a late last call, or want to go on an oranged tan fueled jäger bomb smushing rager, this is probably your best choice in the area

Was contacted by the establishment to give them a second chance. Did so, and was pleased with the result.

Had their Guinness stew which was tasty.

Thankfully, since my last review the website IS NO LONGER IN ALL CAPS.

While I would like to increase my rating of the restaurant, some of the original issues still (as far as I can tell) still exist; cave-like acoustics (read: loud), imitation Irish food, and ok beer selection. If the attempt is to make it authentic Irish fare, GET RID OF THE TV's AND SPORTING EVENT BASED SPECIALS.

    Shannon Rose:
To be brutally honest, this "Irish Pub" is an embarrassment. It is about as Irish as someone with the last name of Lopez dressed up as a leprechaun .  I have been to this establishment twice and both times left pondering how this place is still open.  I would rather eat crap from a dumpster than eat here again. The food isn't even the worst part of it.

    Here's the Breakdown
Food: 0 Stars: I ordered their corned beef and cabbage which was about as awful as anything I have ever eaten. The cabbage was soggy and the meat was tough. Plus the portion size was too small. Another time I had their version of a cheesesteak with French Fries and almost vomited. The meat was tough and chewy. It was tougher than Shoe leather. Their French Fries were soggy and so oily I swear I almost had a heart attack on the spot.

Service: 1 Star: The waitress I had both times probably barely had a high school education but had the mouth of a truck driver. She was rude and surly and was annoyed when we asked for more time. The only reason she gets 1 star is because when I complained to the manager about her rudeness, she did apologize.

Atmosphere: Negative 2 stars: This place is LOUD, VERY LOUD. Both times I went, it was during a weekday and it was so packed and noisy that I couldn't hear anybody talk. It is very chaotic

Overall,  I would never ever eat here again

I really hate this place. Then again, I hate chains. Whenever its not crowded, the place smells like feet from the vinegar they leave on the tables since its "Irish." When its crowded, you can't move or think. Its right near my house so sometimes its just inevitable we're going to end up here though.

One positive is that for happy hour they have $1 sliders. The buffalo sliders were pretty kick ass. Everything else I've ever ordered from here has disappointed.

Why go to the Shannon Rose, when Emerald Corner is right down the street with lower priced drinks, better food, its not a chain and there is more pleasant company?

This place claims to not be a chain but is owned by Doherty Enterprises, a major franchisee of Applebee's, Chevy's, and Panera bread. That being said, it totally feels like a chain and does not have that local charm that you could find at a true Irish pub. The food is mediocre, the service sucks, and the the prices are very "corporate", if you catch my drift. The crowd on the weekend is a typical Jersey " too cool" crowd, and that's not saying much.

There are ton's of better local places not too far: Sharkey's, McGovern's, even Pub 46 just to name a few.

I was not impressed. When I go to an Irish pub, I expect Irish pub fare. They only had about 5 items that were Irish. They rest of the food was really expensive pub food. The decor and the exterior is very Irish, and I think this is misleading. Don't come here if you want Lamb Stew, Boxtys, or other traditional Irish fare. They have Shepherd's Pie, Guinness Strew and Bangers and Mash (which is what I had). The food was great, but overpriced.

It's an over-glorified sports bar. Come here to watch the game, but don't go just for the Irish fare...

I just really like this place. It's an Irish Pub but a lot bigger and more upscale then you would initially imagine.

They have some really good beers on tap like hoegaarden and blue moon. I usually get a mixed drink and they are always surprisingly strong.

Depending on the night you go there is a lot that goes on here. They have cover bands which are for the most part very entertaining and djais. Montclair State University students along with some others frequent this place and it gets really packed around 11 pm no matter the night. They have an outdoor section with a veryyyyyyy small tiki bar. Its great for cool summer nights but can be annoying when everyone around you is blowing smoke in your face.

Their food menu selection is actually quite good. I LOVE THEIR SWEET POTATO FRIES!! Prices are average and ambiance is like any other irish pub but newer, cleaner and younger people. They have some great happy hour specials every day of the week and there never is a cover.

I have been to this place a few times.  The food is excellent.  Most of the waiters/waitresses are friendly.

Except for the one I had Friday night, who was rushing us out, due to the fact that she was getting off of shift.  She was rude about it and even had the manager walk by a few times to scare us into leaving.  We were celebrating a birthday and had more people coming by, we weren't leaving anytime soon ...

Once we closed out that tab, and reopened another, the new waiter, Dave, was so nice.  I've had him as my waiter a few times and he is always friendly, prompt, and makes us happy.

I would definitely recommend this place to all.  Especially on the weekends.  It gets packed and there is lots of eye candy :)

About the sangria, it had NO PEARS OR APPLES.  LOL!!  Also, for a pitcher, it is $30.

This Irish pub is located in the Clifton Commons and if I didn't know any better I would have thought it was part of a chain.  This place gets packed on weekend nights.  It's big, dimly lit, offers live music, big plasma TV's broadcasting local sports action, lots of tables, and four bars so the wait for a drink isn't too bad considering the size of the crowd. There's also a small outside area with tables to eat, drink, or smoke.

I think there's about 20 beers on tap and another 20 choices in bottles.  The tap includes Brooklyn Lager, Rogue Dead Guy Ale, Guinness, New Castle, Magic Hat, Smithwicks, Boddingtons, and Blue Moon.

I haven't eaten here yet, so I can't comment on the food; however, the menu looks pretty decent, so I'm sure I'll check out the food sometime soon.
