Nice people running a great place! My daughter was involved with the "Relay for Life" on campus and Garvin, the manager at Shea O'Brien's was a super supporter. We had dinner the a few weeks ago, the night before the Relay on campus and the food, ambiance and the hospitality were incredible. We look forward to coming back to Shea O'Briens' again soon!

Shea O'Briens....the little Irish pub that sits atop the downtown area of New Paltz, set apart from the rest of swill taverns and college kid chug chug haunts that gives New Paltz it's gentle nocturnal hum.  It's in this that Shea is inviting to a mixed crowd, the families that want to bond, the first daters looking to have an intimate dinner, the business man looking to knock back and forget business.  Shea's is pretty.  Shea's is relaxing.  It's like a architectural hug.  It's inviting.

The food....decent.  Not a pot of gold at the end of the nosh rainbow.  It's not bar food, but a step or two above and presented well.  A tad overpriced for what is offered.  But, pretty food at a pretty place.

However, 'Fighting Irish' seems to NOT be the theme for the wait staff.  There is indeed, staff aplenty, overstaffed, even, but what they are all doing, isn't really evident.  The service is SLOW SLOW SLOW.  The service is sloppy.  Seemingly the staff is just extra decoration - all pretty to look at, but that's all they seem to be - extra decoration.  Maybe the snakes driven out of Ireland could be utilized here to chase the staff into being more attentive to the patrons. Maybe it's the lack of Lucky Charms for breakfast....whatever it is, be prepared to wait. And wait.  And wait.

A nod, however, to the Sunday brunch.  An excellent value for an extensive spread that is better presented than a geek's science fair entry.  New Paltz was so desperate for a quality buffet brunch and Shea's really makes it a "Top of the mornin'".  However, again - the wait staff.  They serve the brunch to you while you stand in line...it gives a slight cafeteria feel, and the line builds quickly for food.

A tip of the cap to the live music....this is a plus in keeping Shea's authentic.

Shea O'Brien's....I really, really, REALLY want to like you more.  You have a lot going for you.  Sadly there are more kinks then the blarney stone has lip prints.

We had shepherd's pie and bangers and bangers and mash. Quite good, fun atmosphere.

Delicious, affordable fare, friendly staff/bartenders, and a lovely interior, Shea O'Brien's has fast become one of my favorite places for a casual brunch, lunch, dinner or night out in the area. Today, I enjoyed their pasta penne primavera a la vodka, and I dare say they've matched, if not outdone,
any version of this dish I've had at any Italian restaurant. Their shepard's pie is absolutely delicious and filling, as well! Shea O'Brien's has yet to disappoint and I certainly recommend a visit.  Just a note: It can get busy on weekend evenings, so I suggest arriving a little early, especially if you'd like to grab a seat at their spacious bar.

This place has gone down hill fast.
Went for maybe the 5th time Saturday March 16th.
Small St Patty's Day Lunch Menu. Fine.
20 minutes for food to arrive with 4 people in the place.
The cheese burger was fine although nothing special. $11.00
The corned beef on rye, Terrible.
About 6oz of meat between 2 toasted pieces of rye. Toasted, not grilled. $11.00
Was charged Fifty Cents for a tablespoon of mayo for the burger. Seriously???
HIt up murphy's instead of this rip off place.
    We will not be back.

Five stars as a bar/pub. Definitely fills a gap in New Paltz. Stopped in twice now. Both times they have bad great live music! Crowd pleasers and good for dancing. Lots of fun. The atmosphere and the people won me over. The owner/manager(?) is very friendly-always invites you in at the door. The first time I was there, they had a great live jazz trio. After dinner I ordered the toasted almond cocktail it tasted wonderful... Apparently the bar tender forgot an ingredient so he brought another one over. I would never have known, but it was a wonderful gesture. We'll be back for many happy hours, especially if they keep doing live music. On the top of my list for this years St. Patty's.

i had the best lunch in a long time at Shea O'Brien's the other day. The appetizer of cheese quesadilla was scrumptious.  We asked for it to be made without meat, and that was done without question and filled to overflow.  The fish and chips were excellent and the portion was enormous.  So happy to have a great place for lunch and dinner here in town. Atmosphere is warm and inviting as well.  We will be going back many times.

My husband absolutely loved the chicken cordon blu and the twice backed potato (it might be called a stuffed potato?) - either way it was very good.  We went for lunch with a toddler and infant and there were other children there.  Family atmosphere at least during the day and the children's menu has some good choices and also the usual things they will find at home.  All the plates I saw coming out of the kitchen loooked really good and above average for a "bar".  The main area has a nice fireplace and cozy booths.  The tables are nicely set and the toddler used the paper covering the clothe as his coloring book.  We will be back!  Can't wait to try the dinner menu as it has a few more entree items.  Prices are reasonable and make it a good place to take the whole family for quality food.

Excellent food! Sweet layout, bar and decor. FINALLY New Paltz has a restaurant that's no college dump. Older crowd hope it stays that way. Reasonable prices. Will be back and I am telling everyone to go! One night I was there they had local band which played at a low volume, thank God! My group still was able to talk and enjoy dinner. I would have preferred no band but at least it wasn't loud.

    YES!
Shea O'Brien's fills a huge void in New Paltz between expensive night out and hipster dump.  Shea's is a pleasant, inviting bar with great food.  I had the cheddar bacon burger which was excellent and very filling.  Service was above par, and prices were very reasonable.  The Sunday Brunch looked great, too!  I'll need to check that out.
The bar (and restaurant) itself is very nice and comfortable with a fireplace and stone walls.  It's great food and atmosphere at a causal price.  I'm so glad this place opened up: I needed something between McDonald's and an Italian wine bar!
PS Best TVs in New Paltz as well for your games.

We went to Shae O Brian's for NYE dinner. I went in expecting Irish pub food and was pleasantly surprised to find upscale food items. They had great food with impressive presentation.  However, our server confused a few dishes- extra salad, misordered appetizers, a missing soup. I ordered a Filet mignon and it came with the most delicious double baked potato I've ever had. On the downside, their Caesar salad was seriously lacking dressing and my pumpkin cheesecake was frozen in the middle. I was expecting a little more "Irish flare" to the cuisine. Service was slow(it took our group of thirteen over 3 hours to dine. Perhaps they could have given us a more experienced waiter for a group so large.  The food was "pretty"good it's the service that could use improvement

I'm giving Shea O'Brien's five stars. As a relatively new restaurant, there were some very minor items which could have been better but overall, this is a wonderful new addition to the restaurants in the area with an excellent cuisine.  As we don't eat meat or shellfish, we were concerned if the menu offerings would have enough choices for us. It did..and then some. The setting and decor are absolutely top notch. The seating varies from stools at the bar to bar height tables and chairs in the bar area to a traditional normal dining height tables and chairs in the separate dining room. We arrived late in the afternoon a few days after New Years when most places, as was this, are relatively quiet. We were allowed to order from the lunch menu even though it was closer to dinner. The lunch menu prices are very reasonable. We had spectacular appetizers of very tasty Irish smoked salmon with all the appropriate garnishes of chopped onion, capers, hardboiled eggs and a beautifully home made and wonderfully tasting spinach and ricotta ravioli in marinara sauce that clearly had some hot sauce or red pepper added to it giving it a lovely added kick. In addition, we shared a house salad with crumbled blue cheese that was a nice balance to the strong flavors of the appetizers.  For the main course, we ordered a salmon dish and the traditional fish and chips. The salmon, which was ordered with a vegetable medley and baked potato was very good. The fish and chips were good. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been cooked a bit longer so both would be a bit more crisp. The chips were actually thinly cut in long lengths. I prefer wedged crinkle cut fries as they have a better chance of being crunchier and tastier. It was served on some shredded lettuce which wilted under the weight and heat of the food. A minor disappointment.  I washed it down with on tap Guinness stout. For dessert we shared an apple crisp which was served with tasty vanilla ice cream and yummy real whipped cream (as opposed to the areosol sprayed cream) and coffee. The coffee was tasty but could have been warmer. Our server was very pleasant, attentive and accommodating. This was an overall wonderful dining experience. There are other Irish themed restaurants and bars in the village but they tend to be sports bars with loud television screens suited more for undergraduates than the over 25 crowd. Shea O'Brien's is, on the other hand, a more upscale, somewhat pricer, more sophisticated restaurant and bar with a wonderful decor and very good food and service. Consider adding Irish music to the mix. Definitely will give places like Barnaby's a run for it's money. We too, have already suggested it to friends and yes, we will return. Really good place.

Dined here while home for the holidays with some girlfriends. Very festive atmosphere and great layout! One side is the bar, the other side is the dining area. Food was tasty and very attractive presentation. I gave this 4 stars as it took a while to get our food and the potatoes were cold. That said, I would definitely go back, and have already raved about this place to my family and friends!
