Headed here for a quick luncheon today and was pleasantly surprised. Â At first entrance, we felt like we were heading into a bar. Â (Not surprisingly, that is what the business used to be.) Â The black ceiling, disco ball and pool table made the atmosphere a bit awkward for a breakfast/lunch place, but we were quickly greeted and made to feel at home by the friendly wait staff. Â We were the only ones there, save for another small party that arrived shortly after. Â I ordered the "Basic Breakfast" for $4.95 and my husband ordered a patty melt and cup of Irish vegetable soup. Â The soup was definitely Irish, with a splash of cream right in it. Â We were bummed to not receive the soda bread with the soup as the menu had promised, but the restaurant was just up and running and did not have everything just yet. Â
The main dishes were surprisingly large, and quite delicious. Â My breakfast had my eggs done just right, and my bacon was crisp to perfection. Â The breakfast potatoes were tender and well-spiced, and the rye bread was large and buttery. Â My husband's patty melt was tasty, with nice melted cheese and sauteed mushrooms, topped off with lettuce, tomato and mayo on toasted rye, and served with crisp and hot french fries. Â
Overall, it was a tasty meal and the service was great. Â The atmosphere definitely did not do the location justice. Â I hope they continue to renovate the place to make it more "coffee-shop friendly". Â If you can get past the looks, the welcoming staff and tasty vittles will surely have you coming back for more!
