It's easy, delicious, and affordable when I'm at work (right down the street). The only flaw is that they don't take phone orders.  I can't be out of the office for 15-20 minutes. It's easier to call in and pick up.  Hopefully they will change that soon.

Also Try the turkey burger!  It is delish!

I eat a lot of burgers. In fact I'm becoming a burger aficionado. In N Out - please, way too overrated. The Habit, Five Guys?! Now we're moving into a different burger dimension.

The Schwack is in a category of its own. A small beach shack, hometown appeal, homemade ingredients, genuine care and attentive service for their local clientele. Come to this place for a relaxed, lazy afternoon, and enjoy life in beautiful Southern California.

Ordered the double Schwack with cheddar, Schwack sauce and red pickled onions. Perfectly grilled to tenderness on the inside and crispiness on the out. Balanced with a homemade bun that can hold it all in without falling apart in your lap. Not your industrial burger, but handmade local goodness.

The Schwack is top notch. I'm now a fan and will be coming back often.

The shwack is the bomdotcom. The burgers and wedges are delish. Fresh food, good service. The turkey burger is my fav; the arugula and cranberry really compliment the juicy turkey patty.
Take-out orders can take a long time and you cannot order by phone, so it's best to enjoy your meal there.

I came here during the Festival of Whales. The restaurant was much smaller than expected. I got their yummy veggie burger and ate everything but the bun because it wasn't really special.

However, my family hated their picks: chickadees for my little cousin and an ahi tuna salad for my mom. The chickadees were such a small portion and were almost burnt. The salad was a bunch of greens with chunks of ahi.

That said, the restaurant attracted lots of people. Seems like a local haunt for burgers not a fancy schmancy place.

Warning, this place could be habit forming!

In spite of living in San Clemente for over 40 years, and driving by it many times, my wife and I went there for the first time3 months ago. Since then, we must've gone back about 20 times. The Shwack Tacos are out of this world! We have tried them all, fish (not the lousy breaded type you get in many places), pulled pork and chicken. The Pico de Gallo that comes with them, is just spicy and perfect. Try ordering them with Shwack sauce on the side, you'll love it. They are so good, that they are definitely habit forming. Now, as to the service, they couldn't be more friendly and attentive, such nice people! Although I respect everybody's opinions, I feel bad for the people that has given 2 or 3 stars. Obviously, they must've got up on the wrong side of their bed, that day.

Very disappointed, and wont go back. Somehow, a couple burgers, fries (if you call them that-they are actually spud wedges), and drinks wound up being $25+.  Surely this must have been a mistake. Burger was avg at best...and as I said, over-priced. Good location, but thats about it-definitely would not go back....

I hate to attack The Shwack, but it must be done.

This place is so overrated! I went here with high hopes, considering all the great reviews. Once again, Yelpers have led me wrong! I ordered the SHWACK BURGER, with cheddar cheese and sauteed mushrooms. I also ordered a side of SHWACK SPUDS; their version of potato wedges. The burger itself was not impressive. Very average and kind of on the small side. The sauce they put on the burger was overly sour too. The bun was probably better than any of the other ingredients. In addition, the spuds were awful! They were overcooked, dry, and tasteless! Maybe the other items are better? The service and location, however, was good.

Final verdict:  I will not be coming back to The Shwack.

I loved the shwack! The south county friendly laid back surf vibe is refreshing. People are so much nicer down here.

Best burger I've had in a long time. Bacon avocado onions on a brioche bun wowaweewa. It was a damn fine burger.  Very simple homemade and not trying to hard like all these trendy burger joints.

The fries are half potato rounds that are crisp and well seasoned. Again so refreshing from regular frozen fries. The Siracha ranch sauce was also yummy.

Our friend Dave came from England to visit us. My husband and I took him for a day of outing along the southern California coast last Saturday. The weather could not have neen better. At noon we stumbled upon a small corner restaurant at Dana Point - The Shwack Beach Grill. The two gents had the classic burgers, and I had a chicken sandwich. The food was surprisingly tasty; the fries were a bit burned, but the waitresses were attentive. It seemed pretty popular - was crowded and difficult to get a table. Overall, this place is A-OK and our first visit was enjoyable. We will go back again.

This place is amazing.  The burgers are fantastic and the price for what you get is incredible compared to some burger spots.  If you get the schwack burger try it with a fried egg and bacon with the jalapeno bacon ranch added, its pretty intense but soooo good.  I've also had their veggie burger, ahi tuna burger and pulled pork sliders.  They were all equally as tasty.  If you havent been here yet do yourself a favor and GO!

Awesome experience tonight at Shwack. The food was great, the staff was attentive and conversational. Overall can't ask for a better casual dining experience. I enjoyed the Big Al's burger. It was nice. My wife ate the veggie burger, she mentioned it was delicious and very fresh. My daughter had some chicken bites (chickadees?) and she enjoyed them. The only thing we didn't enjoy we're the fries, but I think that is just personal preference. They seemed to be a little overdone for what my wife and I like. But overall great experience. If you are in Dana point you have to try this place. Staff was great.

After I was done with my running around the area, I decided to stop by this place after I found out about it on my Yelp app on my phone. I checked out all the juicy burgers pictures on here and decided to order one myself.

I got there around 11am, just when the lunch starts, the friendly waitress greeted me behind the counter. I ordered my Big Als Bacon Burger and a 16oz Great White Citrus Brew.

After I placed my order, I found a bench seat right by the wall, this place isnt a big place, inside the restaurant there were only 8 tables, a few TVs on top, and a few outside the patio.

After about 10mins, one of the friendly waitress brought my burger, it looks as good as it tastes, love the buns , love the onions rings, love the bacon and cheese in it!! Every bites were very juicy. I swear I ordered the same thing at Five Guys and this place is WAYYY better than 5 guys!!! I will DEFINATELY be back at this place to try their other burgers!!!

Great DP eats!  We love that they have great non-traditional burger options.  Hard to believe there's a place that makes veggie burgers that my family actually craves.  They have real flavor and are homemade.  My kids like the tuna burgers, too.  Seriously, the best inexpensive eats in DP, hands down.  And the staff that works there is always super friendly, fast with the service, just what you expect in our friendly little town.  Can you tell from my review that my family eats here all the time??

My only very, very minor complaint is something another commenter mentioned.  We wish The Schwack took phone orders!  We live minutes away and sure wish we could call in our order and come in for the take out.  We say it all the time.

Keep up the awesomeness, guys!  We love what you're doing!

Quickly served and plenty of seating.

Fries were interesting. I want to try again before I render a verdict.

    I will be back.

We ate here on sunday and it was surprisingly really really good. My wife and I both had the Big Al's burger with bacon and my son had the little kids chicken burger.  You have to order the fries or "Spuds" as they call them, separately, but they were excellent, they don't cut them like regular fries, they are diced. The employees are very friendly and service is outstanding....I'm not usually a fan of ordering everything seperate, but everything was so good, it was worth it.....

I love shwack! It's a great place for a good burger and a beer. While the burgers may not be super gourmet like Riders Club they are close, the beer selection is great, the staff are friendly, helpful and fast and the atmosphere is nice. Super friendly to dogs, whenever I bring my lil buddy they bring him a treat and they have water bowls on the patio. Go there!

Excellent.  They make their veggie burger patty from scratch - with quinoa!  I love that they put forth the effort for their vegetarian friends.  And the spuds are great, with regular ranch, of course. Go there.

Order the Spuds with the yummy ranch dipping sauce!  I've had the BBQ Burger and the Turkey Burger and they are scrumptious.  One of the best burger spots in Dana Point.  Seriously!! Their salads are really good too!

My husband and I wanted to try something new here in DP. We usually default to Taco Surf, which isn't particularly good, but is our cheap lunch standby. I'm so glad we stumbled across The Schwack!

The place was great! I had the veggie burger and spuds while the husband had the classic chicken and spuds. I liked the quinoa in the veggie patty. I also LOVE that the patty is made fresh, and isn't one of those crappy frozen patties that I usually have to choke down as my only "vegetarian option."

The spuds were amazing. I would go back for those alone.

This is my favorite place to get a burger. I love the Low Tide burger (sometimes substitute the turkey patty for a meat patty), and my husband is a fan of the bbq chicken sandwich - don't forget the spuds! Great service, decent prices, and quality food. Go here for all your burger needs. bring your dog, too! and the jalapeno ranch is good on everything! Love the ahi salad, too!

We love this place. There is always a burger on our table. The chicken sandwich with pineapple and cole slaw is ridiculous. Do not forget to order the Spuds. The dipping sauce is magical. Tiny place overall with limited inside seating. Good patio if weather is nice. Ahi salad is very good too.

Shwack attack! That's what I call it when I am craving the tasty goodness of the food at The Shwack Beach Grill. Much like another reviewer stated, I watched this place come to life. I live nearby and would drive by it every day. I am so glad it is a success but I am more glad that the food AND service are outstanding.

This place offers a healthy alternative. The Ahi Burger is the best I have tasted. It is served on a whole wheat bun with an Asian slaw. There is a hint of wasabi mayo that gives the burger a great kick. I usually add avocado because I am slightly obsessed with it.

For breakfast, their Breki Wraps are amazing. I usually get it with whole wheat wrap, turkey sausage, eggs and avocado. This wrap is STUFFED and can easily be split into two separate meals.

To me, those are the standout items but I have tried a few other things and nothing has disappointed me.

The service is excellent. The staff is always on top of things and seem to be genuinely concerned that you are enjoying your meal. Although it is a place where you place your order at the register and your meal is brought to you, the staff is still more than willing to bring you anything you may need, much like a traditional restaurant serving style.

As I am writing this, I feel a Shwack attack coming on! I think that is where I will head off to after work. :)

This is how local, independent business should be run. Great staff, excellent quality, reasonable prices. Shwack has increasingly exceeded my expectations. They have expanded their very simple original menu with more breakfast items, tacos at lunch, and dinner to boot.
Only reason for not getting 5 stars- no phone orders. Who doesn't want to-go business? Truly, aside from fast food joints, this is the only place around that won't take your order by phone. Hence not being a weekly habit. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
If Shwack is reading this, guys seriously- you're losing tons of business...

I watched this place come to life, as I drive by it everyday. The name had turned me off as I found it silly & it looked like just your typical burger joint, boy was I wrong! Had breakfast there last Sunday and was really impressed.

1st - Prices were beyond reasonable.
2nd - The food was healthy and tasty; they don't even own a freezer!
3rd - Their waitstaff was prompt, friendly and outgoing.

Lesson learned: Don't judge a book by it's name. If your in the area, do yourself a favor and try Shwack out. I'm looking forward to trying out lunch & dinner there next week.

I had the shwack burger with bacon and avocado. They were generous with the latter, which made me a happy camper. :)

The burger was moist and well-flavored, but I thought the bun was way too big. I had extra bread left over at the end that I did not eat.

The potato wedges are interesting, but they're not my cup of tea. Also, I didn't taste any jalapeno in the jalapeno ranch dressing. :P

I like how the restaurant is dog-friendly on the patio. I wish I had my pups with me. :(  :)

Expect long wait times when you come here, expect awesome food when you come here. The burgers are cooked to the right amount to let that juicy awesomeness flow into your mouth and straight into your belly. The homemade wedge-fries that come alongside the burgers are always so good. I want to convince myself so badly that they're healthy for me, but it doesn't matter  cause I'd eat them anyway.

There's very limited seating when you get here, so you may have to take it togo or just wait  for a spot to open. Tables turnover semi-fast, so you probably won't have to wait too long. Again, the wait time for the entrees are pretty hefty. My order once took nearly 20 minutes to complete. Pretty insane wait time for a burger I'd say.

Customer service is great though. Staff is very friendly and accommodating to the customer. I love this place as it's in a great location. Awesome job guys.

Pros: Friendly service, delicious $3.95 shwack burger
Cons: None that I can think of

Came here the other day when Kristin C. and I were exploring south county. Shwack Beach Grill is located on the corner of the street right next to a dry cleaner business. There's a small parking lot in the back so thats pretty convenient.

Anyway, this place offers some breakfast items and different types of burgers. I ended up ordering the $3.95 shwack burger. Don't be deceived by the price. The quality of the beef is top notch and the bread is nice and soft. You can add additional toppings for an extra fee (i.e. $1 for an egg).

They also have different sides. We opted for the spuds which were wedge cut fries. Nice and crispy. Good stuff.

Overall, great, affordable burger joint if you're in the area.

This place has tasty burgers that take a while, so be ready to wait. The guys running food and to-go orders are friendly and attentive, but the surly 19 year-olds who take your order have been less than warm every time I've visited. There tend to be lots of young bleachy South OC families with barefoot, poorly-managed children running around who are in need of a haircut and a coloring book.

I order the basic burger, which is priced well and beats fast food. The shredded lettuce combined with their heavy-handedness on the sauce makes for a messy eating experience. They should use butter lettuce leaves, instead of boring iceberg. It's really nice to get a good wheat bun here, and the beef is tasty and cooked right. Their "Shwack spuds" are totally lame and the bacon jalapeno ranch that comes with them has neither enough bacon nor jalapeno to register, much less any standard ranch seasoning. Do yourself a favor and slip through Del for fries on the way home. Or use it as an excuse to skip the spuds and eat two burgers if you're into that kind of thing.

We come here once every couple of months, basically because it's a much fresher alternative to a fast food burger and it's close to home. But I wouldn't come to Dana Point specifically for this place. Save your money for a nice fish dinner at Harbor Grill. Lots of your money.
