This is currently the best place to eat in Burien hands down. Â There are other places that have better locations and facilities but food wise and environment once you enter, this place is not currently beat. Â The menu is updated regularly and we are never disappointed even with diet restrictions.
Review Source:Good food and drinks but very small venue and a bit pricey. I also didn't like that the menu was so limited but the food is delicious. This would be nice for a date night. Definitely not a good spot for a large group. They only had one server and I know it's small there but it took an awfully long time to get our food. All in all I liked it but I won't be a regular.
Review Source:I can't believe I've never been to this hidden gem in Burien until today ! I am so surprised that someone would give them a one star review. The owner was so nice and came up to the table to check on our experience. He cares a great deal about the customers and the quality of the food, and it shows. Sometimes dining can be very impersonal, but that is not the case here ! I felt like an important customer. I am just so impressed with every aspect of Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar. Clint was polite and cheerful. I really like the cozy pub atmosphere.
Let me just tell you that the Chicken Sandwich was OUTSTANDING !!!!
Loved the flavors of the chipotle mayo, onions, peppers, and cheese. The fries were seasoned perfectly. My mom had salad and the onion rings. I think they were some of the best onion rings I've ever had. Â I cannot wait to go back and try everything else on the menu.
awesome experience!!They made my 4 year old son a special order of nachos. We ordered the Garlic Chicken,Fried Chicken,Fish and Chips,Pulled Pork Sandwich,Wedge Salad,Italian Flat Bread. Everything was so deelishus we practically licked every plate clean. Even though they didn't have the bread pudding the affigato took my mind right off it. There was another dish that we all licked clean. service was fantastic. food was amazing. atmosphere awesome!! Â will for sure be back, tell everyone we know!
Review Source:The Truth about Sidestreet Kitchen & Bar
My Burien "posse" & I are always looking for places in the, "B-Town" loop, and this place popped up on the radar after hearing the locals mention it. Â They said it was pretty good, so we thought we'd try it out. Â Sigh. Tried this place twice, and that's all it took. Here's our story; Â
The Sidestreet isn't as tucked away as the name would have you believe. Â It sits off a very busy 4 lane road, in an odd German village / Leavenworth inspired building. Â Still, it's easily missed because your eye, frankly, is drawn to the oddities of the building and not the nearly invisible restaurant in the bottom right. The space inside is small and fairly uninteresting. Â Whatever, we are here for the food. Their facebook page shows pictures of sophisticated, gourmet cuisine unlikely to Burien. Â NOTE: Don't be fooled by the facebook photos; the cuisine photographed STILL remains unknown to Burien. Â
The word among the locals is that the owner is a big hearted guy who is a very talented chef who has been, "less into it lately."  This was the first sign something was going to be off. Very off.  My guesswork has no bearing here, it's tantamount to a personal opinion which I try to omit from my reviews.  I like to present the facts.  But in this case, I will go so far as to say, It  MAY be true that the owner is a talented chef, WHEN he is working, and WHEN he decides to bust out the goods. Perhaps for special nights? Important VIP guests?  Friends and family he likes to impress? "Cuisine" is definitely NOT what we experienced.
THE FIRST VISIT: We arrived around 7:30 to an empty room with one other table and  5 or 6 people sitting at the bar.  The Bartender was doing double duty as waiter.  He was charismatic and TRIED to be accommodating (this bad review has little to do with him, and certainly isn't his fault).  Nearly, everything we asked for they were out of.  The waiter said that the day before they were busy and got "cleaned out."  The day before? The owner didn't go shopping? This is a restaurant business, right?  We first asked about the steak, the answer was, "let me go check and see what we can do..."  He went back to the bar to wait on people, and return about 10 min. later with the answer; NADA. Then the buttermilk fried chicken (supposedly spectacular).  He assured us they had lots of it.  The same thing happened, another 10 minutes or so he came back with the answer, NADA.  Incredibly, this happened a THIRD time (I wish I could remember which entree it was), but it was basically, nope, sorry, ain't got that either. He apologized, said he felt bad, our first time, wanted to make a good impression, yada yada, and asked if we wanted drinks and an appetizer while they(/we), "figured it out." This was code for, 1) buy time to appease the needy people at the bar, and, 2) find out what the Hell was going on in the kitchen.  Each time he went to the kitchen you could see them having a dialogue and peering over at us: VERY UNCOMFORTABLE!  He brought the appetizers. The hummus plate - was exactly what you'd expect at a college Keg party.  The Ahi Tuna - was OK. Nice looking, but  "Flavorless" was the word used at the table.  The olives, were Dismal.  As I write this, I am laughing.  They were unforgettably bad.  OLIVES!  Our friend who travels the world for work, said it best - with her FACE.  The look was priceless. First off, the olives were warm.  Warm olives are a delightful surprise - when they are seasoned and prepared right.  These weren't warm, they were HOT.  The next surprise was that they were served with a truckload of lime.  Have you ever had hot lime slices? No one should. Ever.  Not even warm. Of course, you are not supposed to eat the lime, but flavor was a truckload of WRONG.  Take a lime, slice it into wheels, add olive oil, then microwave until they are fully cooked in the oil, and try it while it's hot.  Cooked Lime changes into something else. Don't think Key Lime Pie.  This DOES NOT work.  In a big way. It's remarkable bad.  It tainted the olives in such an indescribable way.  It was a resounding NO.  No, "talented chef" let alone culinary genius would EVER concoct such an atrocity. They should cease, and remove it from the menu immediately. Finally, the bread at the table was tough and the drinks were run of the mill. For all the trouble, nothing was removed from the bill.  G'nite!
THE SECOND TRY: We called in advance to make sure they were serving food. Â We were told, "Yes, Til about 10." Â We arrived about 30 minutes later - just before 9pm -to find they had closed the kitchen early and sent the cooks home. Â That was all I needed to hear. Â They won't be getting a third chance. Â
The Truth is this; The Sidestreet is a poorly run business. Â It cannot be taken seriously, let alone live up to the promise of culinary genius. Â They're faking it. Badly. It's a mess and they need to get it together.
This is hands down, our favorite place to go in Burien. Â Not only is the food great, but so is the staff. Â Clint seems to always be there with a smile on his face. Â
The last time we were in, there were a few specials Clint suggested (portabella ravioli and duck confit). Â Boy am I glad we tried them; we're non-mushroom lovers and both were wonderful. Â
The time before our most recent visit, we met Marianne. Â We could be friends. Â She's fabulous. Â She works Fridays and another weekday. Â Planning to go tonight to see what delicious items are on special and see my new friend Marianne.
If you like good food, good drinks, friendly people and nice atmosphere - come here. Â And order the mandarin mojito.
On our one visit for dinner, there was only one guy serving. He was behind the bar and taking every single table. He was mostly able to keep up... but the service would have been better if there had been more staff.
I ordered the chicken & chips. My hubby ordered the fish and chips. Both the chicken and fish had completely tasteless batter on them. Truly... zero flavor/seasoning. However, the french fries were good and the apple slaw was delicious!
All that being said.. I am unlikely to return. I found the ambiance lacking and the prices higher than necessary.
Sidestreet is a awesome eatery and one of my, if not my absolute favorite places to eat in Burien. There is always great service, and fantastic options.
The owner is constantly changing the menu to reflect what is available locally and in season. What you can expect food-wise is really common dishes made into masterpieces. For example, Sidestreet serves amazing french frys because they are cooked well and enhanced with a few sudle flavors that you will have to identify for yourself.
I have never had a dish here that wasn't amazing and I have always left extremely satisfied. Often times there will be a rotating specialty drink and there are always great happy hour options.
This place would be a great happy hour with coworkers place. Â Space is nice, menu is upper level standard bar fare. Â The bartender was swift and pleasant, but the kitchen staff was SLOW... It took 30 min to get a flatbread. Â Once I did get it, it was far too salty. Â I got the bean spread bacon one but I think more than just the bacon was too salty.
Review Source:I have never written a review before but I truly believe that Dan and crew deserve such amazing kudo's on the PHENOMENAL pig roast they pulled off last night. Â I have never been to one in my life, and now I know what I am missing. Â It was a tremendous start to summer (such as it is). Â
Dan let us see the pig as they brought it in. Â Then proceded to pair it with AMAZING side dishes such as mashed hominy, roasted corn on the cob, coleslaw. Â At least those are what I had. Â It came with two sides, but we could not resist adding a third. Â All wonderfully cooked, fresh with flavor only Dan knows how to impart. Â They use only fresh seasonal everything with a talent for just the right amount of spice. Â The corn so fresh, sweet with I think a sprinkling of chili spice, the hominy was utterly home cooking, comfort food. Â The slaw is like nothing I've ever had anywhere. Â Way better than homemade. Â The pork tender and juicy with just a touch of homemade BBQ sauce that just enhanced and didn't drown. Â It was standing room only, people just lined up waiting to get in! Â I went home with leftovers but it was sooo good they didn't last until bedtime. Â
The pig roast was a very special event that I was so glad to be able to share, but I have to say the quality of the food is always there, no matter what you have. Â Dan only brings in fresh and local ingredients, crafting a delightful ever changing special sheet that always has something for everyone. The same attention to quality and detail is in everything presented from the generous happy hour menu to the regular menu. Â The prices are very competative for the generous servings and quality. Â
The servers and bar staff are always friendly and fun to interract with. Â
If you are in the mood for great quality food and drinks in a small town but classy atmosphere, at a VERY reasonable price, this is your place.
Just moved to the area and this is one of our favorites. Their salads and burgers are great. My husband orders the chicken sandwich. We haven't tried anything else because we love what we've ordered so much. The downside? It's definitely a bar atmosphere (a plus or a minus) and can be pretty loud on a Friday evening (hence, table full of crazily squealing drunk gals - migraine inducing and makes me embarrassed for my gender). The service is great. We will definitely be back, but probably not on a weekend evening.
Review Source:Food was decent as was service, so I'd return.
I had hummus and toast appetizer plate and a french dip. Â My finacee had a salad and salmon. Â All tasted really good but I don't know whether I'd consider they were the best we'd ever had category - but they by far weren't the worst, either.
This place is small and has few tables, so if you have a party of 8 or more, this might not be the place for you. The place was full and burbling with conversations throughout dinner. Â So, it isn't the most intimate places either.
But it IS good food and service was great. Â I have a feeling the menu may be one that rotates a bit, but having been only one time, I'll have to see whether that hunch is true.
I'll likely return sometime when in that part of town.
Amazing and delicious!
Great atmosphere, too. It's a bar and restaurant, but lots of tables to sit at with friends to enjoy the super tasty food. Dark lighting, beautiful wood tables and chairs, open kitchen so you can see the chef at work. Bartender/waiter very attentive but not annoying, really genuine guy. We love it when waiters are like this!
We decided to try this place based on other Yelp reviews, and we weren't disappointed. We had the chips and salsa to stop our growling stomachs. They make the pico de gallo fresh, and the chips are homemade. They fry cut up tortillas until they are crisp and flaky, then sprinkle them with cumin. I thought it would be hot/spicy and overwhelming, but it was perfect! Just really good flavor, not hot at all.
For dinner he had the pepper crusted seared ahi tuna with garlic mashed taters and seasonal veggies. I had the salmon and taters with seasonal veggies. They were both perfectly cooked and delicious. We had a hard time deciding what to order, and are planning to go back to try the buttermilk chicken and fish and chips, both of which were sold out when we arrived around 8 pm.
We were on such a roll we decided to try dessert. He got the bread pudding and I had the apple crisp. Both were so yummy!!
To sum up, we were pleasantly surprised and happy at having such a wonderful dinner, especially at a place we drive by everyday and never even give a second glance. Try it, you won't be disappointed!!!
You would never imagine that perfect dinner and drinks could be had in this very non-ostentatious location next to Hans Deli. Â But it's true, you can! Â We had a great experience here this past Friday evening, arriving during Happy Hour. Â Prices were very reasonable.
I have to say I'm really impressed with the hard-working efficiency of the staff. Â We wondered how just three people working the bar and dining room were going to handle the crowd since all the tables were occupied. Â But they did a great job (even if at the bar two glasses fell to the floor and shattered during our time here). Â Our glasses were never empty and our friendly and polished server checked back with us frequently. Â Â
This really is a cocktail establishment. Â I saw tray after tray of very attractive drinks being brought out. Â My martinis were fine and I did like Penny's Cosmo. Â Did it have Campari? Â Nice bite, and not too sweet. Â Â
Sidestreet K&B has a specialties menu printed up daily and it is presented along with their standard menu. Â We ordered the potato chowder and roasted olives for appetizers. Â The chowder was hearty and delicious. Â The roasted olives were actually a mix of different kinds of olives and included capers. Â Very tasty!
I had a hard time deciding on my entrée.  The prime rib, salmon, and pork loin were all very tempting.  However, it was the buttermilk chicken that roped me in.  It roped Penny in too.  The chicken dish came with coleslaw and garlic mashed potatoes.  It arrived at our table beautifully plated.  Penny remarked that this was the juiciest chicken she had ever had.  I have to agree.  Because it was a buttermilk recipe, the flavor was very mild.  The chicken was fresh and portion sizes were just right.
We loved the coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Â The julienned vegetables in the slaw paired with the creamy dressing were exceptionally good. Â The mashed potatoes had the *perfect* amount of garlic.
We saved room for dessert instead of earlier going hog-wild with the expansive appetizer menu. Â I ordered the apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. Â Very nice. Â And so was the hefty slug of tawny port that I had to go with it.
This has gotta be one of the best dinners to be had in the South End.
Thank you Yelp for finding us a great restaurant in Burien! I would have never expected it (especially the location) in a quiet area kind of like a hole-in the wall kind of place but once you step in and try the food you will be blown away. I know my girlfriend and I were! (Paulina N. - who also reviewed this place)
We came in for dinner and we were both overwhelmed by everything in the menu. We started off with an appetizer which was the (Hummus Plate) hummus and flat bread. I swear you can only find good hummus in restaurants of if you make them yourself. For dinner I had the Grilled Chicken and my girlfriend had the Pork Loin. I wish I had space for more everything in the menu sounds really delicious, but it gives me a great excuse for coming back for more!
Anyways, thank you Phoebe for being such a great server and hostess :) We will definitely be back! I live about an hour away but my girlfriend lives no more than 20-30 (if not less) mins. away, and eating at Sidestreet Kitchen & Bar was pretty much the Cherry on Top for a Thursday night!
I can't wait until the next visit.
this place was wonderful, the service the ambience the food. JUST EXCELLENT.
I went here with one of my girlfriends, she ordered the chicken... i forgot which one.. sorry! BUT OMG IT WAS SOO GOOD!
and then i ordered the pork loin. perfection.
our server was so nice! i will def come back! Why didnt i know about this place before?! thanks yelp!
:)
Incredible.
We started off our meal with some fresh margaritas. I say fresh because she squeezes the lime on the spot! I got the impression that all of their cocktails that had fruit juice in them were done this way. The owner even left at one point to go pick up more produce because they were running out.
We went on a Tuesday night which is apparently Half Priced Bottles of Wine Night! Bonus! Next time we will have to take them up on the offer. Instead we enjoyed our Margaritas and Big Al's Smoked Porter.
I had the Grilled Flat Iron Steak and it was very tasty. I'm not a big mushroom guy so I opted to swap in some fresh veggies. Now usually I do not enjoy zucchini, but, how ever Dan prepared it was delicious. The fries that accompanied my steak were also very good.
My wife had the cheese tortellini with meatballs Special. The meatballs were very tasty. The only complaint she had about her meal was the lack of sauce. There just wasn't much there. The sauce that was there was fantastic though! Other than that small complaint, it was a pretty good meal.
We capped it all off with a Chocolate Ice Cream + Espresso concoction. It was a home run!
This is a great place to go, whether it be for drinks or food. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. Get there early if you want a seat at the bar as it fills up quick! Â We will definitely go back when we get the chance.
My favorite place to eat in B-Town. The food is absolutely awesome and they keep the menu small so as not to over do the quality but they have rotating specials so it's always something new. Dan the owner is always here, friendly and a good guy. I highly recommend this place a little bit off the main drag.
Review Source:The food is worth 5 stars, fresh and expertly prepared. The cafe style seating is no indication of the high level of care that goes into the cuisine. I've dined here on numerous occasions and each time have been pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food that arrives at our table. My recollection is that the service has always been fun, friendly and timely. I would recommend this restaurant highly!
Review Source:My husband and I love Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar. It's our first choice whether we are going in for a quick Happy Hour bite and drink or if we are staying for dinner. The bar is usually hopping and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Dan always has great specials with yummy touches and nice presentation. If you don't want one of the specials, there are lots of good things on the menu. I like the Salmon, Ahi salad, BLT salad and Fried Chicken. Friday is famous for Prime Rib - done to perfection. There is even live entertainment on Saturday nights. To top it off, the prices are reasonable and you walk away happy you came.
Review Source:A hidden treasure. Â Every time I go here I enjoy my experience. Â You would never expect such amazing food from such an unassuming little place. Â Awesome vibe and such wonderful food AND cocktails! Â Enjoy some Rosemary Brown Butter popcorn with your beer...definitely try the Pulled Pork sandwich! Â Everything I have eaten here has been great.
Review Source:An incredible find! We were recommended to this place by a foodie friend, but it took us several months to follow up. The place is small, and the menu limited. But what they do make is done with great care, with excellent, fresh ingredients, and tastes incredibly good. My wife and I have ended up making a trip there from Seattle twice now, and we've tried everything from their specialty drinks, and sandwiches to entrees and desserts. The prices are very reasonable, and considering the quality of the food, it turns out to be a great deal.
The atmosphere is very casual, the owner is also the chef, and he's likely to come and pull up a chair at your table to chat. His big dog is also likely to keep you company ,especially if you have something that smells great on your plate! They are trying to place themselves as a neighborhood bar where the locals can hang out, but don't let detract from the high standard of the food.
What a delightful surprise, this Sidestreet Kitchen and Bar. My friend and I were meeting 2 people here based on a google search of bar in Burien. I was a little nervous about what to expect but was exceptionally surprised and delighted. We walked into to a full restaurant and were seated at a table that had a nice location. Although this restaurant is on the smaller side, it had a great feeling/ambience to it. Â The whole restaurant was clean, elegant, and had an open kitchen to watch the chefs in action. The restrooms were well kept and nicely decorated.
Our waiter was fantastic with very knowledgble attitude and seemed like he actually loved his job. To start with, he brought us 4 glasses of ice as there was a nice glass bottle of water on the table in which you poured yourself glass. I love this little touch.
The menu had great options in a very reasonable price range. The happy hour menu looked like great deals although we arrived after happy hour, but I would definitely go back for those great items. The price range was appetizers from about $5-6 and medium items (burgers, sandwiches ) around $10 and fancier items such as prime rip and ahi up to $18-20. I saw there were salads on the menu but do not remeber their prices but I believe they were around $10.
I had the chicken sandwich which was very flavorful and the fries were exceptional. The wine is served in a small wine decanter and the waiter pours half into your beautiful wine glass for you and leaves the 2nd half in the small decanter. Â The 2 friends that were with us ordered cocktails and seemed to like them and were not watered down at all.
Our dessert was amazing, I shared the pear/apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and our 2 people we met had the chocalate amagatto (Sp?) which was chocalate ice cream in a martini glass ( so fancy!) Â and then an espresso shot poured over the ice cream at the table, topped with whip cream and a mint leaf. (again so fancy).
The chef came out to greet us and thank us for visiting his restaurant. A very nice man and I told him how surprised and delighted I was that I came that night.
Overall, a very nice restaurant for a date or group of people. Even just sitting at the bar during happy hour would be fun too. I would definitely go back to this locale. Enjoy!
Such a cute little place with ambience. Had no idea it existed... Okay well i did but i thought it would be dive-y. Who knew. I got a $3 pulled pork slider with a tiny side of fries. YUM. it was deelish. The price points are a bit pricey for their regular food for what you get, but I thought the food was flavorful.
Review Source:the place is definitely trying and I give them that. cocktails were great and service was even better. OK, now on to the food. it wasn't horrible, but lacked that something 'special' that other places impart (Tin Room??). I'll be back for sure... more places should try harder like this little neighborhood place.
Review Source:This was our second time there. First time was fine, fairly forgettable. This time just wasn't very good. Inside is very nice. Normally the kind of place we like to frequent. Server was distant. Not unfriendly, but no smiles and not a second more than necessary at the table. She wasn't busy, just seemed disinterested in us (wife was a server, so service matters to us, otherwise we go get pho). Manhattan was good. Soup was terrible. Way, way, way too salty. Really way too salty. Almost uneatable. Salmon was just fine. Salad was O.K. We might have given some constructive critiques if anyone asked how our food was, but no one did. Won't be back soon, but hope to hear good things in the future.
Review Source:Wow!!! This place was a great suprise! We went in on a Friday night, received great personal service from a terriffic server. She was very friendly, gave great reccomendations, and was very upbeat. I had one of the most amazing drinks of my life! it had Tequila, Cilantro, muddled Cucumber, and a little Jalepeno. The Jalepeno gave it just a quick hit of spice, which was quickly smoothed out by the cool crisp cucumber. Â My wife had a pear drop and raved about it. Â
For dinner, I had the pulled pork sandwich with apple slaw which was fantastic! The apple slaw gave it a nice crispness. This deffinitely was a 2 napkin sandwich, but that is how pulled pork should be. Â The Mrs. had a prime rib special, which she said was fantastic (I agree based on the small bite I had), and even the side vegetables were done perfectly. Â
We finished off dinner with a House made plum crisp with vanilla ice cream which was fantastic, not too heavy a dessert.  To add to the great food, Sidestreet excelled where  a lot of other restaraunts dont, the service.  From the second we walked in, the bartender and server warmly welcomed us. The server was genuine, friendly, personable, and attentive. The Chef/ Owner made the dining room rounds and came to the table to ask how everything tasted, even giving us a little personal history on where the idea for the pulled pork came from.  This place exceeded any expectations I had had previously.  WE WILL BE BACK!
Nice little place [I really meen little]. I will try it again. I tend to judge a place like this by it's burgers. I had the only burger on the menu. It was a typical frozen patty of a burger, nothing memerable. I hope they take a clue from the "Tin Room" and offer up a real fresh sirlon patty. The fries were seasoned and were outstanding as was the dessert. On tap beer was good. Service was very slow as the waiter was much more attentive to the large group of 10 than the 2 of us. My wife had the salmon dinner which she liked. This place also seems to be very dog friendly as the owner has one here at times. There are a few tables outside next to the water bowls for the dogs.
Review Source:Don't call it a cafe or a bistro. The Sidestreet Kitchen & Bar is more than a category can define with the flavors to back it up.
The owner/ chef Dan Davis (whom you can watch craft your meal first hand in the open style kitchen) is passionate about his food and customers and it shows through the fresh ingredients and visits to each table, treating everyone as if they were long lost family.
So, seriously, insiders tip... if you are a shrimp cocktail fan get one here! No joke. It's not what you are expecting, but way better. A light garlic creamy sauce over fresh greens that my description can not do appropriate justice. The main course tasted like it slow cooked in my grandmas kitchen all day, potato gnocchi with braised pork and rosemary ragout. They do have a few lighter items on the menu, which Dan says he is excited for input on as he wants it to be something truly made by the community. Wow... whens the last time you heard a chef say, yeah go ahead tell me how you like it and I will do it, since the "King". Blacken Ahi Tuna with a Korean cucumber salad, Skillet roasted Clams with Italian sausage or even a Flat ironed steak were some of my other options, which I am gladly going to work my way through this menu.
I don't normally do this but I opted in for desert and I don't regret one second of the stair master for it! Dan you had me at vanilla bean but when you added the artfully crafted phyllo dough, toasted walnuts and drizzled honey, you restored this girl's sweet tooth in heaven. Thank you Dan! I can't wait to try the amazing old world but sorta modern looking bar and happy hour menu.
Oh and one last thing... Dan let me know that the actual GRAND OPENING is gonna be on January 27th, 2009! Oh I will see you there. Seriously people you gotta try this place... not to mention its super easy to find. Just take the Burien exit (509) and go straight until you see the European looking building to your left.
