The food and service was fine. Â We both ordered the specials. Hers was the shrimp and pasta. Â I wanted the ribeye, but $36-$37 was too much to take a chance on it having not eaten there before. Â So, I ordered the special beef (5 oz tenderloin), thinking it would be around $22 - $25. Â No salad, some stupid dry purple mashed potatoes, and asparagus (anything that makes your pee smell like that can't possibly be good for you). Â The meat was way too rare (ordered medium-rare) but it was good so I didn't complain. Â When the bill came, my meal was $49. Â Forty nine dollars for a 5 oz piece of tenderloin!!!. Â Are you fricking kidding me? Â I asked the waitress why she didn't state the price when I ordered it - she said they were told not to mention the price unless the customer asked. Â I paid $49 for a less-than $25 meal. Â If you go to the Silver Dollar, be sure to ask the price of the specials. Â Usually 'specials' are a little cheaper, but not there. Â By the way, we went there because the online menu said they had a halibut meal that sounded real good, Â Needless to say, that was "in some old menu that changed just yesterday!".
Review Source:Good bar food. Waaaaaayyyyyy way way too many loud big screen TV's that ruin the atmosphere (they'd get 4 or 5 stars if this was different). But often there is great live music although the acoustics aren't that good. Worth going to in order to see the fun bar with a ton of silver dollars in the top.
Review Source:ARROGANT AND SNOOTY!
I stopped in the bar and was told with kids, we could only eat in the grill. Â We went next door to the grill and put our name in. Â We were told it would be 45 minutes and WE COULD ORDER OFF OF THE BAR MENU by the man at the reservation desk, the manager. Â When we returned 45 minutes later, the man at the reservation desk advised me that we could no longer order off of the grill menu. Â I expressed my displeasure with waiting for 45 minutes with five young boys and three adults. Â I was told he understood my disappointment but the decision had been changed 10 minutes earlier. Â There was no apology and no acknowlegement of the problem of now finding a place to eat at 7:00 on July 4th night when the city was hopping. Â The reservation desk was arrogant, rude and was snooty. Â I have never been treated so poorly by a "quality" restaurant. Â It is sad that a beautiful, historical building has such a terrible tenant.
Loved the building which due to it being on the National Registry for historic places, had plenty to display like stained glass and wood moldings. Â Since the place had at one time been a scandalously bawdy gambling house, actual silver dollars are in the corners of the poured, clear plastic covering the tables.
Food choices were inventive and full of local choices.  Our table of four ordered a  pheasant soup and elk sliders and a bison burger just so we could have a taste of each.  We also had old fashioned grilled cheese sandwiches which were just bad.  Where's the cheese?  Instead, there was enough bread to choke one of those horses outside the City limits.
Items are essentially a la carte, making even a lunch trip an expensive occasion. Visit, because Silver Dollar is making use of an authentic, cowboy place in the midst of neighboring kitschy, Made in China souvenir shops.
The history at this bar and grill is evident from the moment you walk in. Â For guests of the Wort Hotel, this is a convenient choice but the place fills up with plenty of locals and guests of other area hotels. Â The bar has silver dollars - you guessed it - embedded in the bar and I'm sure there have been more than one inebriated soul who has attempted to separate them to no avail. Â The only real criticism is that the barkeeps only knew some basic drinks and preferred to pour beer. Â Certainly worth a visit for at least one drink though.
Review Source:Good fare, counted 7 flat screen tv's if you're into watching the game while dining.
Very good service, ordered  spinach salad added chicken for an extra charge, glad I ordered salad dressing on the side as it looked like pink goo!
I did enjoy their promotion that was a surprise, for an extra $1 the staff flip a coin and you call it, if you pick right, you win your lunch, our table won 2 out of 3 luches!
Fun place, the food is not FANTASTIC, but I would go back for the venue, the service and the history.
Our group enjoyed sitting at the Silver Dollar Bar, located in the Wort Hotel, visiting with the bartender and locals one afternoon before moving to a table for dinner. Â Our waitress was attentive and everyone seemed to like the food. Â I think the bar menu must offer more lighter fare than found in the Grille side. Â Our group mostly had various sandwiches. Â Our group was seated at the west end of the bar area on a small stage. Â A retractable movie screen was hanging at the front of the stage and our waitress and others had to be careful not to bump into it has the bottom was just about "head high".
Review Source:Our last meal in Jackson was at the Silver Dollar, recommended to us by one of the hotel staff. We walked in with no wait, into the bar (the restaurant seemed too pricey for our tastes).
Many, many options to choose from. We wanted to try the bread (roesemary) which cost us 50 cents. It was so worth it...really fresh and flavorful.
For our meals, I had a hard time choosing. I wanted a bison burger, but decided on the elk gyro. One of my friends had the pheasant soup (which didn't appeal to me at all) which came with a sweet potato hay. I forgot what the other friend had. I really liked my gyro. It came on a pita bread with some peppers and onions and a yogurt based sauce. It was really delicious.
The atmosphere is what I consider a typical bar scene in a Western town. Many locals, tourists and curious folk. The decor is interesting as well: old timey paintings on the wall, silver dollars on the bar, just no connection between the two sides of the bar. But it was a fun place and the food was good, so I would suggest it to others who need a dining suggestion.
Giving this 4 stars for what it is - a nice little bar with tasty bar food. We stopped in for lunch - a burger and a beer with the added bonus of some local history. we had buffalo burgers (yum) with onion rings (just okay) and sweet potato fries (yum again). Service at the bar was slow but who's in a hurry in Jackson? Great spot for families too though not sure that's the case at night.
Review Source:This place, like many others in Jackson is kitschy for sure, however the food is much nicer than the decor. Their specialty soup is delish and chock full of bacon, and the elk sliders are yummy! Servers were friendly and helpful.
Minus the decor and some of the less than pleasant tourists that were sitting around me being rude about other patrons . . . it's probably one of the nicer touristy spots for lunch and has a large all day menu so you can stop in whenever.
We stopped in Jackson Hole to grab lunch and walked in. Â For kind of a kitschy town, I didn't have great expectations, but was actually very happy with the food here :-)
The buffalo burger that I ordered was very tasty - I've had them before where the bugger was just not very flavorful, so I was surprised that this was one of the best burgers I can remember having.
We have eaten dinner at the Wort Hotel/Silver Dollar Bar and Grill several times over the last few years and every time has been a pretty solid experience. On weekends in the winter they usually have a live band and I am sure that they have a band during the summer season as well. Often people come in to dance after dinner and that is usually an interesting/fun thing to watch. Of the different meals that we have ordered there have been very good, the French onion soup is one of the top 5 that I have had, and  the pheasant soup is also very good. The service has always been good when we have went, and the hotel in general has some interesting history as a gaming house in old time Jackson. Worth walking around and reading about for a bit if you get the chance.
Review Source:If you want the real WY bar experience, this is the place. Cowboy hats, bolo ties, stiff whiskey drinks, and a country music cover band. The menu is what you would expect: Buffalo, Venison, Salmon, trout, etc so if you're a vegetarian, like me, it's probably not your place to eat. Everyone was very friendly, including the locals, and they didn't mind a couple of city slickers singing along to Johnny Cash songs. Yeeehaaaawww!
Review Source:Fantastic! Went here with some friends after rolling into town a few hours before. We were starving, but were quickly surrounded by fantastic food. You must get the corn chowder! There's a reason they are known for it. Next time I go back I will try the pheasant soup too. They also make their own rosemary bread which comes out to the table warm. Nom nom nom.
Feeling festive I opted for the buffalo filet and I was pleasantly surprised. It's not gamey or sinewy at all. It was delicious as were all the sides that came with it. It's rare for me to get completely filled up, but I did manage to eat 75% of the apple crisp which was good too.
Our service was wonderful and we stopped in a few days later for a few beers and made sure to get the same waitress. We were on the bar side both times, but you can order off the grill menu there too. The bar side can get a bit cramped and there are only a few tables that could accomodate larger parties. There's also live music on the weekends. Wonderful place, will definitely go back!
My husband and I wandered in off the street for some dinner here the other night, and sat in the grill side (more formal). Â We weren't expecting much, and this place was a pleasant surprise.
Both wines that we had were really wonderful. Â My husband had the gorgonzola pasta, which was delicious, and I had the Kobe beef burger with truffle fries, which was aMAZing. Â Locally sourced beef, cooked to perfection. Â
The staff was super friendly and chatted with us. Â Overall a great place--hidden gem.
This is not a review of the BAR. Â The bar was great. Â The associated restaurant with steaks and other high end fare is where this place was terrible.
First, food is the reason for the review. Â Out of the 9 people we had at the table, not one person got the steak prepared as ordered. Â 2 members of our group were brave enough to send theirs back. Â The Cowboy Ribeye was skinny and certainly not worth the charge even if they cooked it right.
Here is where our friends at the GRILL became an EPIC fail. Â We ordered a decent bottle of wine from what looked like a good list. Â The waiter brings out wine glasses that reak of old fish from old dish water. Â Almost lost my salad right there. Â No problem though, probably just an oversight. Â We asked the waiter "Mark" to bring some new ones. Â Can you believe he didn't even smell the second set of glasses that were worse than the first. Â So the manager brings out some new glasses with an appology and they still stink. Â Not just to me but the manager agrees??? Â We actually asked for plastic cups to drink the bottle of wine.
Save your time and money. Â There are so many places for this type of money that have common sense and good food. Â You have been warned.
This was an interesting night. We were told that this place is where the locals go to hang out. Everyone from cowboys, foreigners (mainly Aussies), ski bums, tourists like myself, and all the other walks of life are found here. It wasn't too weird that we were the only Asians in this joint. Maybe at first but whatever. The service was still on point and we got over it pretty quick.
They had this band rocking away random tunes from oldskool rock to plenty of country. It was actually pretty entertaining especially when you see people getting up and dropping it low on the dance floor. All was missing was line/square dancing of some sort. Age didn't matter either because there were young bucks to grannies hanging about. I definitely give mad props to the people who got up to dance even when they were the only one doing it while everyone else in the place was basically watching them.
We got there a little later in the night so the kitchen was close. There was plenty of booze to go around though. The prices were mediocre and not as cheap as you would imagine. From dirty martinis to local brewed beer and your favorite brand of whiskey, all is available. I sat right in front of the tube and watched Sports Center for the majority of the night. We were told by the waitress that this hang out does not close until the last customer leaves even if it's like 5am. Word! I sampled one of their local brews and when the waitress told me it was light, she wasn't kidding. It was like drinking bud light basically. I apologize for not recalling the name but it was the first beer I saw under local tap.
The band had to call it quits at 11pm sharp though. The crowd was cheering them on to play another song but the hotel manager came blitzing through and told them to shut it down immediately. I guess they didn't want all that ruckus to disturb the hotel guests upstairs. Not too long after that the place went from pretty occupied to half empty. I did forget to mention that this bar is located in the Wort hotel.
Anyhow, if you're looking for something interesting to do or experience at night while visiting Jackson then this may be the most rockin' place to visit. Least they have plenty of alcohol to go around and you know they won't close on you.
Stopped here for lunch with a large group, and the overall experience was pretty good. Â They have an average sized lunch menu, with soups, salads, burgers and sandwiches. Â I had the baked onion soup, which is coated in a deep layer of cheese; it was great! Then came a turkey reuben on marbled rye, which was also good but the sauerkraut was on the salty side. Â The fries were over-battered; tasted like frozen fries from the grocery store. Â Service was pretty bad too. Â I had to ask a few time for water refills, and the waitress was unfriendly. Â The bar and grill itself has a lot of history, which I'm sure draws patrons in for a look. Â But the service really needs to be improved if they want to keep folks coming back...
Review Source:Acceptable but didn't live up to reviews.
The wait staff was confused over who served our table. Minor thing but perhaps a harbinger of what was to come.
Our waitress had a group table to serve and our table, so she was not as attentive as she should have been.
We order salad (caesar and mixed), soup (corn chowder and minestrone) and "Kobe" tenderloin. No dessert since we'd been eating too much on vacation!
The salad was a bit limp, as if they had prepared the lettuces and left them out. Definitely missed some of the crunch in both salads.
My wife liked the corn chowder - they are famous for this. It comes in a decent but not huge sized bowl. But the serving size is significant and it can dull the appetite for the main course.
The minestrone was acceptable, but I thought the broth could use a bit more tomato flavor and they could have cut back a bit on the salt.
We were served our salad first, then soup, per our request. There was a longer than expected delay getting the soups (my wife wondered if they were planting the corn). Unfortunately this was a trend in our dining experience.
Our main course followed the soup course by at least 20 minutes, maybe more - people next to us were seated, ordered, ate and left while we were dining. The "Kobe" was Wagyu, which is the breed for Kobe, but not Kobe quality (I've eaten Kobe in Japan). I'd say this was closer to regular prime quality beef than "Kobe." The waitress said it could be cut with a fork - it was tender, but not that tender. It was cooked properly and tasted fine.
This restaurant liked to stack it's food - steak on top of purple mashed potatoes with green beans and carrots with truffle oil. Not my favorite presentation because you really can't cut a steak sitting on a pile of mashed potatoes.
The potatoes were good, seasoned appropriately, and not gluey. Carrots and beans crunchy - I like them a bit more cooked but not soft, but restaurants seem to cook all vegetables crunchy these days. I've discovered I'm not a big fan of truffle oil. I'm sure their oil was fine but it's not a taste I prefer.
Of the three restaurants we ate at in Jackson (Cadillac Grille, Garage, Silver Dollar), this is the one I would not return to.
First of all, I'm not a country music person. Â I love a few songs from Ms Shania Twain & only 1 song from Ms Taylor Swift, PRETTY MUCH IT!
Secondly, it was a 3rd day of my road trip from Oregon, I didn't really want to do anything but sit (not in the car) by the camp fire, looking at all the stars in the dark sky & read something!!! lol
Fortunately, the energy of this place pulled me in, the staff was fun & energetic, the guests were fun & happy and the band was entertaining! Â
The guests were dancing, laughing & being happy (I really like seeing something like this, plus the food was good too)!!!!
My babe & I weren't so hungry so we shared Wild Bill's Elk Burger, Corn Chowder & French Onion Soup. Â Yummy!!!
When the season is almost over and 90% of Jackson has closed down for the month of April (?!), it's nice to know there are still some staples open to feed those in need of a delicious mid-day meal.
Silver Dollar Bar & Grill has some pretty tasty food, including about the best bowl of corn chowder I've ever had (served french-onion style, with cheddar melted and floating atop a bed of croutons on top) and some ale-battered onion rings where you could actually taste the thick hearty beer flavor in every bite. Â Both of these apps were really killer. Â The Stetson Cobb salad was also a great one, served in a hilariously large bowl and overflowing with fresh tasty cheddar, turkey, ham, tomatoes and hard boiled egg.
My only complaint? Â The Silver Dollars that are laminated into the bar are fake! Â Either that or they acquired about 1,000 of them that were ALL from 1921. Â A little too suspicious for me.
Went in with high expectations for dinner. Â That was based on the other meals we have had around downtown Jackson Hole. Â You walk in and have the choice of sitting in the bar and grill or the restaurant. Â We choose the bar and grill because it had more people and sports on the tv's. Â
I ordered the Rib Eye for $28. Â This is one of the worst steaks I have ever had. Â Not just in Jackson Hole but in general. Â To the Silverdollar's credit the others in my group enjoyed their meals which included the Elk Burger and the New York Strip. Â
I would rate the service average at best being it took our server over 10 minutes even to great us and offer drinks. The one bright spot of the meal with the bartender made great cocktails! Â Only reason I would come back.
Our trip from DC to WY was like, 18 hours long (or at least it felt that way), and my colleague and I are both starving by the time we sat down (collapsed) in the Silverdollar Bar in the Wort Hotel, so really anything would have done the trick at that point. It was about 3pm, so it wasn't really the lunch crowd or dinner crowd, but about half the tables were full. This seems to be a popular place for locals and for the ski crowd.
Typical bar food, except for maybe some regional additions. I had the Elk Gyro, which was...interesting. The elk seemed cooked properly, although I don't really have any experience with elk. The Gyro was a bit dry, in that it needed some more cucumber sauce.
The Bar was a happening place at night, and they have live Bluegrass on Tuesday nights.
It may be touristy but it is very interesting!
We are on a National Parks Tour and are staying at Jackson Hole for 3 nights. Â What a fabulous town!!!
We ate here in the grill side. Â I had shrimp ceviche (not too good; they dont seem to know how to make it). But, Â I also had the Wort Corn Chowder which was very rich and had a nice taste., Â My husband had the bison steak filet with potatoes and carrots. Â It was delicious. Â The bread for the table was also delicious, we had a nice wine (7 Deadly Zins) and had a very attentive waitress. Â We went over to the bar to watch the band which was also very good.
The waitress told us that the 2,032 silver dollars from 1921 were found buried when they were building the bar in I think 1941. Â So, they put them in all the tables! Â Can you imagine how much they are worth now??
Anyway, if you do go, look at the art and history posted all around. Â Movie posters, bison head, moose hear, elk head. Â Very interesting.
We were hungry after a day in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, so we walked around Jackson Hole along the quaint boarded sidewalks. A store clerk recommended this place, so we went for it.
We decided to eat on the bar side instead of the restaurant side, because the former had a livelier atmosphere and they serve both menus anyway.
One of the draught beers was Mighty Bison Brown Ale ($3.77). It wasn't particularly memorable, but it was cheap, local, and how can you not want to try something with a name like that!
The CORN CHOWDER ($6.50) is their signature appetizer, as it was apparently featured in an issue of Bon Appetit at some point. I must agree that it was a hearty, filling, tasty corn chowder, largely due to the bold presence of bacon. It was certainly rich, but the creamy thickness was nice, not clumpy. The croutons were chewy (could be more toasted) and the melted chedder top was a nice touch, but cheddar isn't particularly tasty. Overall, I liked it!
The GAME BRUSCHETTA ($12.00) was surprisingly good. Didn't know what to expect, other than "bison." It turned out to be thinly sliced seared rare bison meat (sort of like beef tataki), with a pepper crust (a bit too peppery). Accompanying the meat on a plate were toasted baguette slices, sour cream, and huckleberry relish. I wasn't a fan of the relish on its own, but it paired up very nicely with everything else. I was particularly pleased with this dish because, having had several dry bison burgers, this made me rethink my attitude towards bison meat. Served rare, the lean meat melted in my mouth. The only change I would make to this dish would be to have a bit less pepper and a touch of sea salt.
The ELK BURGER ($18.00) from the restaurant menu was a big disappointment. It was certainly a big patty, but there was no significant taste to it, other than a meatiness that was definitely not beef. The parmesan buns weren't particularly tasty and the layer of brie was somewhat distracting.
So, while we felt satisfied overall with our meal, we would ideally give this place 3.5 stars, but not only because of the bland burger; it turns out their onion rings are not freshly fried, but are from frozen, resulting in a batter that is overly greasy and onions that are too mushy.
Nim wit. It's the word of the night!
We couldn't quite figure out why the long wait, or their stupid seating system.
When we got there, there was a table on the patio leaving and the people inside were waiting for a table were parties waiting for inside dining. (NIMWITs--it was a beautiful night, why dine in?)
Within 10 min. there were 6 outside tables available, and the 2 NIMWITS at the hostess stand were just standing around Talking about seating people, we were the only ones waiting for an outside table and STILL she told us it would be a few more minutes.
We waited the interminable wait (yeah, by this time we were the NIMWITS) while they seated 3 ladies who came out from inside the bar. Still 5 tables available.....Why did we wait? Â I guess we were as stubborn as they are stupid.
We finally ordered the House famous Corn Chowder, and Trout and Artichoke dip/spread--proportioned well with toasted flatbread. both were well worth it, (except for the bad flavor left by the long wait).
The service was ok, it made things tolerable. And he gave me just a few more pieces of flatbread for my dip without charge.
Again I skipped dessert (--alert alert! something MUST be wrong)
We thought about inquiring about their seating system, but nixed the idea and tried to focus on the gorgeous weather and our last night in Jackson.
As we left, the far table was occupied by a lone diner and his cute little golden retriever. Â The dog sat at attention, nose to the table, waiting paitently, patiently, patiently for that one little morsel of food that was yet to come.....I wondered if her name was NIMWIT.
Did not get food here.. we just walked by and got several drinks outside
service was good, although it was strange how they won't serve you for certain hours and we were literally kicked out from the patio because they have to close it for several hours at 5pm(we were just drinking beer)
not a bad place to check out but not a destination place
After walking around town, I notice this building and it look pretty nice from the outside and I could only see a W hotel and it look nice and fancy so I stop by here before started to head back and walk in to look at the menu. They have 2 sided restaurant, 1 for bar and grill and one was more upscale but I couldn't decided which one I wanted to go in but the bar and grill has tons of people and the upscale one didn't have anyone LOL so after looking at the menu and people, I decided to go in the bar and grill. The bartender was nice but alittle slow maybe it is just jackson hole. I order another different local beer but I don't remember the name of it plus I order the elk gyros place w/onion rings for $1 more for a upgrade. The food came out and the onion rings was soggy, how can mess up on frying onion rings???
anyway the gyros was ok but u mostly tasted the cucumber yogurt sauce and u barely can tasted any elk or they somehow over seasoning the elk so it doesn't have that game meat feeling, very disappointed. I asked the bartender which restaurant is good in town and he name a couple of places that the waitress told me about already and I asked him what does he think of Amangani(where I work at just curious) hehe he say he never eaten there but have gone there and say it is the best place to stay in the town and the most expensive plus anything that expensive, the food has to be good. After finishing my meal, I wanted to go try more places
I have to laugh. All of the reviews of the Silver Dollar Bar & Grill talk about how this place is so "touristy". Every review with the exception of one is written by someone from other than Jackson Hole. Hello!!
Just like most of you, we like to ask the locals (and seasonal-locals) where to go. Whats cool, whats going on, what shouldn't we miss while we are in town for a few days. Sliver Dollar is on that list. So we went.
Tuesday night, group of 8 and the bar was crowded.... so we started off in the dining room to try some local flavors. Two thumbs up on the steaks, the elk and buffalo. Prepared for our preferences, and coordinated with tasty side dishes and the like. Our waiter was very familiar with the wine list, and quick to recommend certain varietals based on our entrees ordered. After a filling dinner, we headed to the bar.
With live music on tap for the evening, the locals were taking turns on the small dance floor, entertaining the tourist crowds with their two step. Even with many small tables and a big bar, we were hanging in the over crowded standing room only for the rest of the evening. Fun times.
My recommendation if you're a tourist and not down with doing "touristy" things... ask the locals where they hang out.
Well, I'm a tourist so I enjoyed this "I'm a skier/snowboarder but look I'm not wearing my layered clothing anymore, I put on this cool shirt instead" tourist-y bar.
The place was jammed packed. We literally took the last 2 seats available. The waitress always had our drinks filled (how she managed this, I bow my head down to her). The history lessons on the walls by the bathroom were great reading material, so were the Mae West quotes in the female bathroom. I really wanted to know what the boy's room was like, but I wasn't drunk enough to sneek in.
I was sort of shocked to read other's reviews to find out that this is not for the under 30 crowd.
*Gasp*
Shit, I felt right at home in my age group.
*Grimace*
Oh yeah, I just turned 30 (again). So I guess they're right. Touristy-over-30-skier-bar. Nailed it!
Definately something of a tourist destination, and also clearly the local hangout spot for the over-30 crowd. Â But there's a nice big bar, plenty of seating, and it's a very chill location. Â Cool, old-west-style ambiance, and they've got live music a few nights a week too. Â But if you're under 30, I recommend going elsewhere.
