I have wanted to go into this historic home since I moved to Plano in 1980. Â It is in the Well's Farmstead land that used to be one of the four original ranches/farms that used to be Plano before the building boom.
Now, onto the food. Â We had some appetizers and a piece of pie to share. Â The pie was fantastic - absolutely the best coconut cream pie I have ever had!
I can't wait to come back for dinner.
A friend and I came here for lunch to catch up and really could not have hoped for a better scene. It's a house. You eat, (pause for effect) in a house. The environment is designed just so your insides are warmed but not creepified in a "whose house am I sitting in? kind of way. With great service, we learned that customers have been savoring their sips for going on TWO YEARS. I had no idea this place was here but am so glad to find it.
Shut up and tell me about the food.
Lunch menu was small, but enough to cover necessary ground. The chicken Caesar salad was lightly dressed in home-made dressing in which, yes there was anchovy. My friend had the Chicken salad...salad, which was unlike any chicken salad that has before touched my lips. Loaded in flavor but happily lacking in mayonnaise (even the word is gross) flavors of balsamic vinegar and tarragon fill your palate making your taste buds feel they just expanded into another realm. And that's not even including the Coconut cream pie..
Home made. Smooth. Sweet (NOT TOO SWEET). and just delicious. Each bite was like meditating...with your mouth.
I'm confused as to what kind of restaurant this is supposed to be. Is it just a place for wine and cheese or something more? The wine is definitely great and so is the cheese but I would advise on looking at the bottle prices because 15$ a glass for 2-3 people can get you a bottle easy instead. Now on to the decor and the seating area. The place was not close to being full yet we were sat in the corner of the second room next to some closets which just seemed to attract fruit flies! One even fell in our wine glass! The decor looks like it should be a southern style dinner but the menu disagrees completely. Then the attire of the wait staff did not match the style of the menu. Casual T-shirts and leggings should not be a servers attire especially when most patrons are dressed nicely. Also closing at 9 pm? That's not exactly early, but much earlier than restaurants in the vicinity and we felt the push to pay and leave. In conclusion, great wine and cheese and that's about it.
Review Source:Open or Closed?
Can't really review this place as when I dropped by on Tuesday, when they were supposed to be open, I couldn't get served. Â There were two guys on the patio smoking cigars and when I called, someone answered but when asked, they said they were closed. Â I'll try again but this was a little strange.
I love this place. The people that work here are super friendly and attentive. They're really helpful when it comes to suggestions. I have to get a cheese board and the white bean hummus each time I'm there. Recently tried their red pepper and mushroom flat bread with goat cheese and it was delicious! It draws an older crowd, so a girls night for people in their 20s and 30s will get you some looks from the older patrons. They prefer you make reservations as they can get busy.
Review Source:Really enjoyed my lunch there. Â Tried the stuffed mushroom soup, BLT salad, pork tenderloin sandwich with onion jam, coconut cream pie and lemon tart. Â I ate everything and enjoyed every bit. Â Owner John was a gracious host, giving us the history of the historic home which serves as their restaurant/ wine bar. Â That is always nice! Â But on to the food...the stuffed mushroom soup was rich and flavorful, with smokiness from the bacon and deep mushroom flavor. Â I would have eaten it all, but I wanted to leave room for everything else. Â The BLT salad was refreshing and chock full of avocado, bacon, tomato, blue cheese crumbles in a light blue cheese dressing with fresh dill and crispy onions on top. Â That was satisfying, but not heavy. Â The pork tenderloin sandwich is their best seller and now I know why. Â The homemade onion jam is the bomb and makes the sandwich. Â Finally, the coconut cream pie was just heaven on a plate. Â It was not overly sweet, the crust was flaky, and it was wonderful. Â The lemon tart was also delicious--with a pleasing zinginess. Can't wait to visit TX again so I can enjoy another meal here.
Review Source:I saw that another reviewer wrote that this was a place that needed some fine-tuning, and I couldn't agree more. Â I've been on three separate occasions and have experienced a few moments of great and a few disappointments. Â The meat and cheese boards are truly delicious, filled with a mixture of familiar and unique choices. Â Excellent combinations...so enjoyed them quite a bit. Â The cherry pepper poppers are out of this world! Â We've also always liked our waiters and waitresses... In fact, I have a new favorite wine because of a recommendation from the waiter (I think his name was Gabriel?). Â What we haven't enjoyed so much is the dismissive responses we've received from the owner - once even tapping his watch at us to go home (though we asked him when they closed, and he said whenever we were finished... we had paid the check and were packing up around 9:15 PM when we got the watch-tap...). Â On another occasion we asked for some recommendations from him and basically got the cold shoulder. Â And the decor could use a bit of work - it's hard to tell if we're supposed to relax or sit upright and be proper.
Review Source:Thank you, Sip & Savor, for all of the great food and atmosphere at last week's dinner for the JPIIHS parents of Class of 2015. The restaurant was clean and charming and the pork medallions on a baguette were delicious. Sip & Savor's old-fashioned ambiance puts everyone at ease and conversation flows freely. Â
It's nice to leave the hectic pace and escape to what seems like a different era. The Sip & Savor Victorian home is a charming setting for a ladies lunch, a bridal event, a wine tasting or a friendly gathering. When you arrive, expect to enjoy the sophisticated but simple ambiance with an old-timey porch and friendly people who care about the details behind good service and fine dining.
Love, love, LOVE this place. It's a wine bistro (and wine shop) in a charming old farmhouse, which is an historical landmark. The owner, John, was so welcoming and friendly. I felt like I was home the minute I walked in the door. The food was delicious, the wine unique and the house is just incredible...I imagine it looks just like it did in the 1800s, and it's nestled among beautiful trees on a bit of acreage, so you feel like you're tucked away in another world, really.
They have wine tastings on Thursdays, which I definitely want to try out, because the owners are knowledgeable about wine and wine/food pairings, and the price is just right (around $13 a person, I think, which includes wine and a meal).
They're expanding their patio seating now that the weather is turning warmer, so I will definitely be hosting events here. Can't wait to go back! :)
We hosted a bridal shower here yesterday. Shelly, the event coordinator and daughter of the owner, was fabulous. Â All of the food was scrumptious and the guests kept talking about how much they liked everything. Â The atmosphere was perfect for an afternoon light lunch and unlimited bellinis. Â We truly felt welcome and almost like a part of the family...all of the waitstaff knew us (hosts) by name. Â I will return for lunch and a wine info night and will highly recommend to others.
Review Source:went for a girlfriend's birthday lunch. Â very cute place, nice atmosphere. Â food was good. Â however, waitress knew nothing about the wine list. Â this place is a wine bistro so training is needed. Â also she seemed very tentative, shy, but willing to be helpful. Â owner was super, asked if music volume and temp was okay. noticed another waiter wearing a political t-shirt. Â inappropriate attire. Â chocolate cream pie was just like sara lee from the freezer but brownies were fab! Â furniture was a bit odd for the rest of the decor.....heavy rustic tables and chairs adorned with texas stars. Â all in all a nice place that needs a bit of fine tuning.
Review Source:I've been several times to Sip and Savor, and am surprised that no one else has written a review. Â We've only been to lunch so far - and everthing is delicious. Â House made everything from soup to salad to sandwiches. Â And the desserts. Â Save room, they are worth it. The decore is charming. Â In an old yellow house which dates back to the late 18 hundreds, each room has a personality of its own. Â Each time I was there, the owner came and greeted us as if we were long lost friends. Â I understand that they now have their license and are open at night for wine tastings and tapas. Â I'm confident they will be as delicious as their daytime fare. If I had any negative, I would say that the wait staff is under trained and tentative.
