This was a great venue during the College World Series to grab a drink and enjoy some live music. Â The outside bars were a college party atmosphere with the inside bar having craft beer options and lots of TVs to watch the games going on across the street at TD Ameritrade! Â
I highly enjoyed my time at the Slowdown while in town and would recommend it to others looking for a less packed experience than some of the other beer tents in the area around the stadium!
I drove to Omaha to see Mogwai play here. Â The show and sight lines were rad. Â Booming sound, and with Mogwai especially, I needed earplugs (~50 cents). Â Canned beers are super duper cheap; tallboys of High Life or PBR were only a few bucks. Â It's also nice that they have a bunch of board games with which to kill some time if necessary. Â
The venue is small but it has a solid intimacy factor so you really feel like it's an exclusive gig. Â The one thing I hated was the small bathrooms, which become a huge hassle if you're drinking cheap domestic swill. Â They should have put in a second set of bathrooms somewhere. Â However, great venue in what I was told used to be a dangerous, seedy side of downtown. Â I didn't notice anything shady about it, but this place certainly helps, in any event!
When I lived at the TipTop apartments practically right across the street, I frequented this place regularly.
The Nomad has a good beer selection for the area, as well as putting on some really great shows. The bartenders are super friendly and the drink prices aren't too outrageous.
Oh, and Pub Quiz is excellent!
Loved this bar! Â Ended up here because I thought their Yelp ad said they had 1/2 price tapas for happy hour... it said 1/2 price TAPS. Â Oh well, I could go for a $2.50 beer after flying in. Â Lots of microbrew options to choose from. Â Ended up staying for a second beer since happy hour was still going. Â Wish they had food, but the lack of food was made up for by an awesome clientele. Â I could definitely see this being my local bar if I lived in Omaha. Â Will be back at some point in my life!
Review Source:Came here one night with a couple of friends to see her friend's band and one of my fav bands, Pomeroy was playing. Drinks were good. The place was full but not completely horribly packed. You can go up by the stage to get closer to the music or sit back and chill by the bar with still having a good view of the stage. TV's around to watch sports on also. Great place to come with friends!
Review Source:There's not really much point in reviewing this place, since most people that would go there are going for a reason, but I do want to give a shout out to my favorite design feature: Â the little shelf in the bathroom for your drink. Â Sure, it's a pretty small convenience, but it shows that someone actually put some thought into making this a top notch venue.
Review Source:This is one of the newer, great features of an area in Downtown Omaha. I've seen quite a few bands preform, and it has a great sound system. The bartenders are great, and the prices aren't more than what you might spend elsewhere, for a not as good bar. Trust me, great place to go, and relax for a few.
Review Source:We saw my husband's friend's band, Aurasing here back in June; I have to say, between the high energy show, cool, industrial-feeling interior and surrounding architecture, this is a neat place I wouldn't mind visiting again!
According to friends that we spoke to, we were surprised to find that the area we were seated in was actually just the 'small' set-up - apparently, the room divider/wall can be manipulated to access a much larger space, thus allowing larger crowds for big events. Â
On top of that, it was pretty cool to learn about the association of this revitalization zone's association with Saddle Creek Records. Â It's always nice to hear about giving back to the community that fostered your start.
This place is a great venue - I'm not into the bar, but as far as music goes, this is a great place to see bands perform. Â The lighting is great, and the acoustics are even better. Â It's easy to get right up to the front of the stage, just show up a little before the show starts. Â It's clean and well staffed, too.
Review Source:Fast bartenders, great venue, fantastic acoustics, just-right size. Â This is my favorite local venue. Â I've seen several bands here... local ones to internationally known ones. Â I've never had a bad experience. Â Some of the bands and artists I've seen here include Ani DiFranco, Tricky, Seawolf, Silversun Pickups, and a Led Zeppelin cover band.
Slowdown has great drink specials (PBR is way cheap here), and you can even buy six packs of plain jain or micro-brewed beers. Â I absolutely adore the Slowdown.
My favorite place to catch a show in town.
Pros: Nice venue, acceptably clean restrooms (this is a big deal for us ladies!), areas designated for standing, sitting and playing board games, an upstairs section, outside seating area for those who choose to smoke, board games!, pool table, and a decent bar area.
Cons: Drink prices, sometimes acoustics can be hit or miss, sometimes the crowd turns into all scenesters, no matter the show.
Regardless of the cons, if you're going to see a band play, then I definitely recommend the Slowdown as my first choice, with Waiting Room and Sokol Underground tied for a close second. Also, I'd recommend bringing cash, there's a $10 minimum on all bar tabs and I've heard sometimes they make each drink more expensive to meet the minimum. Then again, what place doesn't do this? Go check it out!
First of all, I thoroughly enjoy the Musicians the Slowdown has attracted to the Omaha area. Â It is a clean establishment with great seating and plenty of room for a full house. Â In that regard I would place it in the top ten for venues in Omaha.
Now, every Tuesday they have a pub quiz. Â I believe that Steven Hawking would be more charismatic than the MC's at The Slowdown. Â This may be the most boring pub quiz on the planet earth.
Their drink selection is excellent, unfortunately if you do not go during their happy hour expect to take a mortgage out of your home in order to run a tab. Â Very over priced.
Pros: Good seating, good view of the stage, clear sound
Cons: Somewhat of an emo crowd, just like other concert places
Saddle Creek Records has done a lot of good things for the city of Omaha, including building a section of former warehouses into a concert hall, a movie theater, an Urban Outfitters and coffee shop. I don't dig the music myself, a little too depressing and anti-everything, but I wanted to check it out so I made my way down to the area. It's not all that bad. Pretty comfortable and nice place, but not my kind of music. I know some people are enamored by the genius that is Conor Oberst, but I have yet to get on the train. The emo scene is not for me, so I probably won't make a second trip here, but it's making Omaha look like a more with it place, so you can't go wrong with that.
My favorite place in town to see a concert. Â They also have great drink specials for happy hour, Pub Quiz on Tuesdays and free juke box and loaner board games. Â I especially like when the garage doors are open in the summer, but the main reason I go to Slowdown is for the concerts. Â There isn't a better venue for shows in Omaha right now. Â
There really isn't a bad seat in the house, but of course I have my preferences. Â I won't give away all my secrets because I don't really have that many, okay I don't have any, besides to get there early and then get in the front of the line. Â That's all I'll say about that.
Parking is give and take, I can imagine it would be a pain if you arrived late to a show. Â But like I said, I get there early-ish. Â
Bartenders are attentive and friendly, even when they're swamped. Â Drink prices are more than fair.
Soundsystem, lighting and HVAC are excellent. Â Okay so the HVAC is something people might not notice, but trust me it's great. Â :)
A music, film, coffee venue in the middle of a derilict warehouse district, apparently owned by the Faint. Most of it was closed when we went, there's also an American Apparel, thats all. Â It was nothing impressive truth be told.
The slowdown may be a club, but my impression was that the whole little area was called the slow down, which may be some ignorance on my part.
I have only been for pub quiz. Â I like it although it is a bit overly tame. Â I like the hecklers when they have them, it adds an element of shall we say....fun.
The sarcasm and banter of the MC'ing is great. Â My only suggestion, let the people make asses of themselves...it's their god given right.
Wait staff was less than stellar.
I went to the Slowdown bar on a recent trip to Omaha, earlier this month. Â My girlfriend had a couple of friends who had been their previously on a Tuesday night for trivia and were going back while we were in town and invited us to come along, so we decided to. Â
When we first got there, the parking lot in the back was pretty full, but we thankfully were able to grab the last spot. Â We went inside and met up with the girl's friends. Â They had already grabbed a table and were playing one of the many old boardgames that were available. Â What a cool idea for a bar to have I thought.
Then came trivia which was pretty crazy the night we were there. Â The first grouping was TV show dogs, which was we found very difficult. Â They also did a grouping of Brothers Grimm trivia. Â Both of those sections were pretty killer, but still a lot of fun to try and figure out.
If I am ever back in the Omaha area I definitely would go back for Trivia again, and hopefully some of the categories will be more up my speed.
You can play Guess Who (and other board games) while drinking a tall PBR for $3. It's a dream come true. The beer they've got on tap is also quite good and it apparently changes frequently. Also, I should have mentioned this first - Pub Quiz is amazing. It's on Tuesday nights and I'll most likely be found there every week from here on out trying to win. I haven't been to a show here yet but will be at one very soon, mark my words.
Review Source:I've been to the Slowdown two times. I've heard about frequently it since they began constructing it, but I don't live in Omaha anymore. The place lives up to the high regard most people have for it. The drinks are well priced, five drinks and beers for under $25. That's from a larger-city perspective, so maybe it's pricey for Omaha standards. The first time I went it was a chill Sunday night for drinks and the second was for a concert. Both times it was comfortable and cozy without being suffocating.
Review Source:This place is an AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME place to see a show. The drinks didn't seem overpriced and HOLY HELL they have Boulevard Wheat on tap there!!! The crowd was pretty dull, no one really seemed like they were having much fun that night but it didn't stop me from dancing and running back and forth to the fenced in patio (which has a great view of American apparel) for cigarette breaks. The door guy and bartenders were friendly and attentive. They poured me a few pints of their local brew and told my companion and I about other bars that we could visit.
Omaha stops serving alcohol early so the shows are early. If you're underage you have to have your parents sign some sort of permission slip which i think is ADORABLE.
I LOVE the slowdown and will definitely revisit this venue!
The sound system here is excellent, and the layout is great. Â The show I went to was close to sold out, but it was still pretty easy to get a good viewing position.
This is pretty much the best music venue I have been in. Â Plus, they sell PBR tall boys, so it is basically a hipster paradise.
An easy going, comfortable place to enjoy drinks, music and people in Omaha. The non-smoking atmosphere is a big plus for me. It is nice being able to go out without having to do laundry every evening.
It provides a spacious music venue that carries good sound. I have enjoyed most of the bands I have seen there. Although there were a couple where I would have preferred the jukebox. Oh yeah, a sweet free jukebox as well. Check it out.
The good folks at Saddle Creek have successfully put Omaha on the map. Â One result of their efforts is this music venue/bar very close to downtown Omaha. Â I found the bar staff to be neither slow nor down on their jobs. Â They were very friendly and knowledgeable, and seemed to compliment this joint with their wit and attentiveness. The free jukebox and cheap drink specials make this a must visit for those with lite billfolds. Â I found the decor sensibly appealing to those who like dim lighting and a mellow atmosphere. Â During warmer months, there is a garage style retracting-wall which opens up to compliment the beer garden on the north side. Â Try out this place if you haven't already.
Hot tip: take a look at the pictures on the photo booth...you'll see that a national political figure was one of the few early adopters to patronized the Slowdown.
I think this is a great venue. It's a brand new building built by the Saddle Creek Records people (I know, I know), and it's impressively unpretentious. I love the architecture and lighting. There is an old-fashioned photo booth (two dollars) which is a major attraction for a lot of people. There is also a wall of shelves full of board games that patrons can sit down with and open up (I've played many a scrabble game). On tuesday nights there is a pub trivia quiz which is really fun.
Around the corner is Film Streams, a new theater in Omaha that shows independent, foreign, and classic films. After watching a movie, it's fun to end the night at the Slowdown.
I am also engaged, and we are planning to have our ceremony and reception at the Slowdown.
this place is swank. the big stage always sounds good (minus one show: tricky). i've seen lots of great performances on that stage. devotchka, girl talk, broken social scene, deerhoof, to name a few.
the small stage is ok. the sound is a little muddy.
sometimes it can take a really long time to order a drink on a busy night.
