Great place! Â Have been here a few times over the years. Â Good Food and local atmosphere. Â
Charmaine Neville and others with deep roots in New Orleans perform here regularly . Charmaine performs songs from across her long career and shows are sold out so you will want to make reservations. Â It is off the beaten path and away from the Bourbon Street following.
I have to say, I was so shocked this place had so many positive reviews. Â Perhaps they are based on the music there, but unfortunately there was no band there when we went. Â It was not very busy, so we were quite confused why it took our waitress at least 20 minutes to show up at our table (even after alerting the hostess no one had come to our table yet). Â Our waitress (I wish I knew her name!) was so unfriendly, did not even apologize for our wait, seemed distracted, not helpful, like we were an inconvenience. Â And this was our first meal in New Orleans, so all we wanted was some tasty food and maybe some pleasant, timely service. Â Sadly, we were denied. Shrimp remoulade appetizer was unimpressive and pretty bland. Just steamed shrimp and very mayonnaise-y remoulade. Â The fried calamari tasted off, like either old or bad, I'm not sure. Â And it was SO breaded and over-fried, it just tasted awful. We actually sent it back. Â And our waitress didn't even seem to care that we were dissatisfied. Â Really terrible customer service. Â Save your money and go somewhere else.
Review Source:I performed with the band here at Snug from Houston, Texas. We were treating good. I love everything about this place. The coziness of the place is my kind of place, not too big and not too small. The food was on point and the service was on point.
My homie Stephen Richard and his band performed here on a Sunday night. If you're a jazz musician this is the play to play at. They're hitting on all cylinders here. The take care of you.
Like Arnold says. "I'll be back".
This was a wonderful jazz club. It was a very small venue but it was nice because everywhere you sat you had a good view of the stage. We sat on the balcony and it was a perfect view. We would definitely go back here to see someone else if we are back in NOLA. Overall I would go to this area as opposed to Bourbon St. for jazz clubs.
Review Source:I came here for dinner.
I started off with the gumbo. It wasn't anything special. The shrimp on it were tiny so I didn't like that. It was also a little bland. I would add some hot sauce to it.
I ordered the cheddar burger with a baked potato with all the fixings. Definitely one of the better burgers I have had in the city but I wouldn't put it up there with Port of Call or Yo Mammas. My meal was definitely filling so kudos for that. However my cousin and his wife ordered fish plates and the portions seemed small for what you were paying for so I would probably just stick with the sandwiches. I'm a more bang for your buck type of person.
For dessert we had greasing pudding which was delicious. I definitely recommend it.
Our server was very sweet and personable. I would love to go back to catch a show.
Came here for dinner and it was so delicious! Â One of the best meals I had while in the city. Â We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly, helpful and informative. Â She made us sazeracs which I had never had before and got immediately hooked on. Â I ordered the chicken and it hit the spot. Â I heard that the seafood gumbo was amazing and the best in town but I'm allergic to seafood so wasn't able to verify but did watch it get practically inhaled! Â I didn't get to experience the music but it must be good because the place was starting to get packed as I was leaving.
Review Source:Charmaine Neville is so annoying.... Jesus christ
Only go on Mondays if you want to pay $15 to hear her sing goofy crap like take me out to the ball game while she embarrasses and trolls members of her crowd ...
A woman this annoying and with this bad of a sense of humor should not be given a microphone
No I don't care where half of the crowd lives. You might like to know that apparently people come from all over the world to see you  but I don't need to know that, especially because I came under the mistaken impression that even one single local would be at the show
I don't care that you are a saints fan. I especially don't care to hear you badger some seahawks fan or inexplicably insist on knowing the favorite team of a French guy who told you three times that he has no clue what you are talking about
And most of all I don't care to cringe through your whole show as if I were watching curb your enthusiasm while you drag awkward old men, 17 year old girls, and confused foreigners on your stage and force them to sing and dance or while you make everyone  stand and awkwardly dance at your seated show with a median age of 49
I wish I could go back in time and make your father an unremarkable musician so you could not ride his coattails all the way to the embarrassing performance I was duped into sitting through in April 2013
I was able to see Stanton Moore's Jazz trio, a special treat indeed. Â This is a small, intimate setting and the acoustics were world class and the audience sophisticated in their taste and listening habits, for the most part. Â Got there late, just as the show was starting at 10 pm, our bad. Â Received good service and was able to mingle downstairs and shake Stanton's hand after the show. Â The pianist and bassist were equally as skilled as Stanton, I prefer more of his funk music, but glad I was able to see him while in town! Â Oh yeah, one very cool thing is that I was able to reserve tickets, since we were coming from out of town and they just charged for the cost of the tickets, no BS service fee!
Review Source:Came here for the 10pm show. It was excellent, and I definitely recommended checking out a show here if you're in NOLA on vacation.
I took off one star because the organization of the place prior to the seating for the show is crazy. Seating is on a first come basis. My partner and I were there at 9:15pm (we finished our prior engagement early), got our tickets and hung out near the entrance to the stage area/ticketing booth. But since there aren't clear lines to separate those waiting in line for the show and those just picking up their tickets, there was mass confusion and people cutting in line/generally being unorganized. This is a seriously easy problem to resolve. Management, invest in a line divider and make things less cluttered for your patrons!
First we get here and no more gumbo wtf. This is New Orleans!!!! Had fried mushrooms, bland. Fried oyster sandwich was a sandwich not a poboy. Again, wtf. It was mediocre at best. There are PLENTY of better locations in NO. Granted I didn't want to pay $25 to listen to jazz when other places had it for free
Review Source:Sirloin burger is to die for! Love e live music, decor, and area. Â We have always had excellent service and the prices are great given the superb quality of the food. Â
I highly recommend you add Snug to your NO itinerary. Â After, walk across the street for more live music or antique shopping!
I would recommend eating here for anyone interested in seeing a show at this venue later in the night (which I HIGHLY recommend). Â I had the fried chicken and it was above average. Â The food isn't anything that unique or special but this place does the job if you want to spend your nigh ton frenchmen st.
Review Source:Rating the food this place gets an easy five stars. Shrimp poboy was excellent. Fried chicken was incredible. Baked Potato was amazing. Overall the food was better than I ever expected. Can't say anything about the jazz room except I'm not going to pay $25 to see someone play I've never heard of before. Plenty of free music everywhere else.
Review Source:Ok. I'm thinking I should start with the dessert and work my way backwards....So let's hop to it, the Bread Pudding was amazing. Â I did however, get my Rum sauce on the side, which I was glad I did because my friend got the same thing and it was drenched in the sauce. Â It was pure perfection and tasted just like you would hope yours would taste if you made it at home. Â I also got a burger, which I was not thinking I was going to get when I got there, but it was really good with the mushrooms, chedder, and raw onions. The baked potato was out of this world and honestly a meal by it's self, but it was my first time in NOLA and was feeling a bit greedy. Â Great location, tons of great music near by and lots of taxi's if you need to ride home! Can't wait to go back!
Have fun everyone:)
What a fantastic time! Â We came here on the recommendation of a local lady at the French Market. Â We got tickets to see Charlene Neville perform and it was a really amazing experience. Â She was beautiful and the band was ah-mazing. Â As far as our service, it was attentive and more accommodating than I've ever experienced. Â We were a group of 8 and she offered (we didn't even need to ask!) to split our check however many ways we needed after we had started one tab. Â Toward the end of the show, she brought us a piece of paper and a pen and asked us to write down how she wanted us to divide up the bill! Â This was so helpful and very greatly appreciated. Â Frenchman is lucky to have such a wonderful jazz club and I would love to come back during future trips to the Big Easy!
Review Source:This is a hard review to write. Â The music is 5 star without a doubt. Â Though the rest of the bar and restaurant is easily 2 star, if not worse. Â First, the bad. Â There is a half rectangle bar with a poor selection of beer, booze, and wine. Â The bartenders seem to be rude, forgetful, and not very well informed on what is going on. Â The restaurant area is nice, but the food is really generic. Â Some seafood, burgers, etc, that you can find anywhere in the area. Â The separate music hall is immaculate however.
If it was not for the font bar/restaurant area this place would be awesome. Â I reserved my tickets over the phone, and they were very informative in what to expect. Â A great venue for music. Â The acoustics are top notch, there is not a bad seat here. Â The balcony is perfect. Â Ellis Marsells is a gem. Â Delfeayo Marsalis sat in and stole the show. Â Really world class music. Â I wanted to just review the music venue, but it would be disingenuous for me not to grade and mention the other halves mess. Â Go see a great show, avoid the rest.
This is a pretty cool bar and one of the best places to watch jazz. Â They also have a nice second floor. Â The cover charge can be a bit steep sometimes by Frenchmen St. standards. Â This place can also be very touristy and some of the folks here want a concert hall type atmosphere instead of a bar atmosphere and will shush you. Â I'm generally more into being all fun and rowdy and not being seated all quietly so I don't end up here much as I get shushed a lot. Â I appreciate jazz as a great music and it was largely developed in the famous Storyville brothels of New Orleans where you didn't ever get shushed. Â I enjoy New Orleans Jazz the way it was meant to be experienced.
Review Source:Even though Isaac sat just off the coast, headed our way, we decided to grab a bite to eat and listen to some jazz. This is an amazing spot to do both! Ordered the fried shrimp. Wow! What a HUGE portion. They said there was a baked potato somewhere in there but all Is saw was a plate piled high with shrimp, hushpuppies, and where the potato might have been a big ol' mess of cheese, sour cream, butter, chives, bacon and mushrooms. Could have easily made a meal just out of the potato.
Music was amazing. Happened to be there on a night when Matt Lemmler was doing a CD release. Hadn't heard of him before but he and his band were FABULOUS! Took special note of a trumpet player, Ashlin Parker, keep your eye out for him, he's something special! Wow! What a great night at Snug Harbor. Can't wait to go back!
Went here on a Friday for Ellis. Ate dinner then saw Ellis Marsalis hold court. The food is pretty standard. I had a burger, and it was decent. The Ellis show though was awesome. The setting makes you feel, I don't know, like you're in a snug harbor. The room is dimly lit and pretty small. It makes for a very intimate show. We had seats in the balcony, and it was amazing. Great views and great times.
Review Source:We came here for the music, so we didn't really had the full bar experience. Davell Crawford was playing that night the piano, with very talented musicians (among them Big D at the guitar). Maybe the best concert we had in New Orleans, and it is saying something.
The cover is pricey (15$), but it's the price you'll have to pay to get awesome music in the touristic areas, I guess? They didn't had a huge selection for the drinks, so we stuck to the regular bottled Abita.
I think the music is great every night, so I would definitely recommend this place.
Went to see Ellis Marsalis on Friday. The quartet was RIDICULOUS. Everybody was extremely talented and working very hard to show it. I was especially impressed with the saxophonist. And every time Ellis played beautiful melodies in minor keys I was on the verge of tears.
My only complaint for Snug Harbor is that I was freezing my ass off upstairs. I know some folks here keep the AC on strong, but I felt like it was unnecessarily cold.
As for things I didn't enjoy that is out of anyone's control, the guy two seats away from me had the nerve to answer his phone and continue talking when the show was *just* starting. And there were people who were talking loudly at times. I didn't understand why they weren't just at the bar outside watching the TV screen and enjoying their conversations instead of being inside and treating the music as if it were background noise.
Snug Harbor was founded by the same guy who founded Port of Call on Esplanade (which he later sold) and it definitely shows. The main difference is that Snug Harbor is far less crowded and has live jazz. The burgers here are excellent, and I definitely recommend the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. The staff is well-mannered and attentive, and the prices are reasonable for the area.
One word of advice though -- ONE MONSOON IS ENOUGH. I've made this mistake before. The Monsoon is their version of a Hurricane, but it's practically all grain alcohol and although it may taste vaguely of grape Kool-Aide, it is far more potent. Be warned, lest ye wind up passed out in Pirates Alley (as one of my friends did once).
We tried getting in during our first visit but the line was so long, it was impossible. Â I did squeeze in to take a peek for future reference. Â On our second visit, we were able to make it in. Â Didn't have enough time to eat but early enough to grab any seat we wanted. Â The waitress was very friendly and we were not pressured to get more than one drink. Â I had the Abita seasonal and hubby had the Abita amber - both in bottles at $4.75 each.
Sasha Masakowski, jazz vocalist, was the act and she was pretty good.
We will definitely return.
So many of these reviews are based on music, which is most excellent.
Mine is based solely on food.
AMBIENCE: I like the darkness of the bar. It feels discreet and underground.
SERVICE: Really fantastic - from the hostess to the busboy to the waiter.
FOOD: Good. Not great - just good.
Someone listed that the rice tasted like Uncle Ben's. It does. I asked and the waiter insisted it was made in-house. I ordered the fried chicken breast and to a northerner like me, I thought it was solid. Have had better but it was a great meal overall.
We ordered the shrimp cocktail with the creole sauce ... The sauce was tasty and we asked for bread to soak it up.
I had my first fried oyster here and it was gross! Not because the food is gross, but because fired oysters are gross. The food here is pretty good, but it's the music that keeps telling me to revisit NOLA very soon.
What a fun spot to listen to some dope tunes! What a beautiful way to end our trip.
Top notch. The poster-child for the new, New Orleans Jazz venue.
Deeeelicious food, decently priced and decent mixology on the drinks. Â I only recommend going to see a show if you're familiar with the artist. Â It also helps to eat dinner during the first show to (hear) know what you're getting yourself into.
Behold! The power of suggestion! My parents found a little thing that said "Snug Harbor! Jazz Bistro! Super double amazing!" Or something similar. So when we went to Frenchman street, we inevitably ended up at Snug Harbor when my phone was dead. After waiting a respectable 10 minutes, we grabbed a table by the front.
That was a mistake. The people watching was great but all the jazz is in the back so we missed it unfortunately. The food was pretty good -- specifically the fish marigny. We were licking the plate that stuff was so delectable. Our BBQ shrimp was kind of odd -- in lots of oil with seasoning that you had to dig out. As with the rest of new orleans, the bread was to die for.
All in all, a decent spot to get food. However, if I had my druthers, I'd skip the food there (go to the adolfos down the street) and pay the $20 cover for really great jazz in the back.
Gotta love live music...
New Orleans does it and does it well.
This is an upscale (pricey) experience for Frenchman Street. The band that was playing had a $30 cover. Downstairs, you could sit and watch on TV what was going on in the other room, but it doesn't compare to the other venues along the same Avenue.
If it's a special occasion, do it, but just wandering around...pass.
Snug Harbor is an awesome spot for music. I've been twice and each time the musicians have been phenomenal. The sound is excellent. The space intimate. The experience enjoyable. You'll also see a diverse crowd so people watching can be just as much fun as the music.
Frenchman Street and the general area is great for walking around. A bit artsy with several other clubs within ear shot.
The staff is great. Approachable, super helpful and easy to talk to. The waitresses treat you well and are sensitive to help ensure the best experience when the musicians take the stage.
The bar is good. The Sazarac was well done. Not the best I've had but good. They don't have beer on draft (Does anyone in NOLA?!), but they do offer a full selection of Abita beers.
The restrooms are a curious thing. They offer an disconcertingly Snug Harbor to be sure. Uncomfortably so. If you don't need personal space, you'll find no bother. But this feature may be worth drinking up for as an excuse to see just how cozy a restroom can be.

Loved, Loved, Loved it! I traveled to NO for my birthday and stumbled across Snug Harbor. I love jazz and good drinks and Snug Harbor has both. I missd Ellis Marsalis (just another reason to return) but was treated to Topsy Chapman and Solid Harmony.
The drinks were great, the jazz band awesome and the vibe (which I really get high off of) was phenomenal. I can't wait to return. Wether you are watching from the balcony or on the lower level, it's a total experience. I travel out of the country every year for my birthday but had to have a "staycation" this year for business. So, I stayed in domestic waters and returned to NO. BEST BIRTHDAY TO DATE. Can't wait to go back and Snug Harbor is definitely on my list.
Its all that JAAAAAAZZZZZZZ! Â One of the best place to listen to jazz in nawlins. Â Its a visit I make every year. Â Seen some amazing artist play throughout the years.
Yes the place is small but that what gives it the charm. Â Its one of those neighborhoos bars where you will see locals there shooting the breeze with the bar tenders. Â Everyone is friendly and they are happy to have you join in on the conversation.
Had dinner here once and I was ok. Â I wouldnt say its the best. Â Ive never eaten here since but reading the reviews I may need to try one of those burgers that everyone is raving about.
