We took our granddaughter to Snuggery today to celebrate her 5th birthday.  The food was terrific.  I had their pulled pork special of the day and it was fabulous.  My wife said her salad was great.  We had the fried string beans for starts and they were out of this world.

But, what really made our experience wonderful was our server, Tara.  She took care of us in a way that was really above and beyond.  She took our picture for us,  found a lighter from another server when we told her we forgot one to light our granddaughter's birthday cupcake.  She just went out of her way to make our time there special.

    Will definitely be back.

Our party of 6 Raced there tonight during the first period of the Hawks game after walking out of Firewood. We were pleasantly greeted by 3 hostesses and were promptly led to our table. The hostess overheard our conversation about the horrible time we had at Firewood she actually apologized. (super sweet since she had nothing to do with it) After mere seconds of being seated we ordered our drinks, the  waitress delivered them on the house. What a classy move by her manager Sean who found out about our crappy experience b/f arriving at his restaurant. Our meals were fabulous and the service was outstanding. Thank you Snuggery staff for turning around our night!!

This place has the worst service ever. I gave it 2 chances and each time my food takes 40 min. We spoke with manager twice and he said there was a disconnect between our waitress and the ticket.. Meaning she lost it. I do believe it is a OSHA Hazard to work with your hair down which is why the kitchen wears hair nets.. But The GM at Snug must have missed that course in tool academy.

You can tell how good a restaurant is doing by how clean the bathrooms are maintained.  Met my friend for lunch there today, when I arrived I went to use the bathroom and it smelled horrible, large garbage can overflowing with paper towels which were also on the floor, no toilet paper in the holders, and the toilet in the stall dirty. I reported this to the manager then went to the table to have lunch. Forty five minutes later after the meal I go back to wash up, nothing was touched, same condition as earlier. I asked my waitress to get the manager for me and I blasted him for the dirty restroom. Maybe guys aren't supposed to care about dirty facilities??? Manager didn't show he really cared about my complaint.

I'm with Heather N on this one- mainly cause she's my twin and I dined with her on both visits. ;)  I will back up what she said as far as the fish fry. Most area restaurants that do a Friday fish fry as 'all you can eat'.  For $9.99- we assumed this to be the case with The Snuggery, alas, it was not. The fish was good- but we would have gone elsewhere to spread our money a little further.  On our second visit- my 'cajun chicken sandwich' was mearly a dry deep fried piece of chicken with some seasoning on it, and my sister got a 'pulled pork' sandwich that smelled and tasted about four days old.  The service has always been less then stellar- think Hooters revamped, with snotty attitudes.  Although the restaurant itself is nicely decorated with a big bar and lots of TV's, we most definetely will NOT be back for their food, twice was MORE then enough to figure that out!

You cannot beat this place for atmosphere. It is right on the water, the staff is friendly and attentive. The beers are cold and the crab legs are great. This place is even good in the winter, but it is even better in the summer when you can sit outside.

    STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.
my family and I had a birthday celebration this past weekend there on Sunday. By Tuesday morning we were all throwing up from food poisoning. We contacted the snug, they didn't do anything about it. We contacted the health department, turns out we weren't the only people who filed a claim. Another party of 7 got extremely sick also. They are now being completely investigated and it turns out the worked became very ill also.

If you want food poisoning and service that is lesser of a chuckie cheese, then this is the place for you!

    Otherwise,

    STAY AWAY.

first visit- we went for friday fish fry. we ordered the baskets- wait about an hr and finally got them. we were dissapointed after finishing them quickly to find out that it wasn't unlimited. guess it was our fault for not asking first. $10 a basket.....it was good but cmon- we could've went somewhere else and got our monies worth. oh the waitress was catty as well.....weird visit..
second visit- food came out quicker, nicer waitress- but i had to send my bbq pork sandwich back because the meat tasted and smelled old. they took it back and waived the charge and offered to get me something else, but at that point i wasn't interested in trying any more mystery meat sandwiches.
i think this place might be more fun to go to for the bar and watching the game. the food is extreme hit or miss and i'd probably only be comfortable getting appetizers only on the next visit....if i ever go back!

I had the ragin Cajun chicken sandwich and it was on the dry side, partly due to the chicken breast being cut in half to make sure it was cooked thoroughly.  Well it was over cooked.  My friend had the pork sliders and she loved them.  My husband had the chicken sandwich with cheese and avocados, same thing, his was cut in half to make sure it was fully cooked.  We loved all the tv screens with all the football games!!!   It is a great place til hang with friends and have an okay meal, but not for bringing out of town guests.

9/15/12- We ate there last night so not sure as to why it's listed as closed......

Everything was great - food very good and casual.  The outdoor eating arrangement is the best in town.

1st time there, during a bears game, the crowd was cool, plenty of tv's, but what really stood out was the food. Very, very good food, big portions, probably now my favorite place to eat while out boating. I would most definitely recommend this place to anybody, especially if your coming in on a boat. Priced well, nice staff, nothing negative to say at all.

Big improvement! I used to go to the Snuggery and had stopped when the service seemed to be inconsistent. But I decided to give them another chance and all I can say is Wow! Big improvement. The wait staff was very attentive. The food was outstanding. We ordered crab legs and it came with rice and broccoli. Everything was very good. The food came out within a reasonable amount of time. The atmosphere and music have always been great. I am glad the wait staff has improved. Now I will go back more again.

This was the third time  eating and drinking  at the Snuggery  the last two times (Last year) the food was marginal at best but it was on the river and a fun place  , This time  except for the dock attendants  taking your ropes as you pull up in the boat  This place  was horrible , we waited over 45 minutes for sandwiches and fried food
I had the Flat bread chicken  which was ice cold  and the bottom of this sandwich  was wet from  condensation from most likely sitting under warmers , my wife had the fried fish " Generous portion as the menu said.  she had (4)  chicken nugget sized  frozen fish clumps she was wondering if   it was a JOKE that we planned ahead , and the 3rd sandwich  looked great  it was a grilled chicken sandwich with melted cheese on it    but when they went to cut it  the cheese was already cold and hard and the Chicken was cold
We requested for  the manager to come out and  look at this   but he or she never came out  just gave the waitress  the blessing to take it off the Bill ,  Thats not what we wanted
This is a horrible place to eat  and the out of the bottle Sangria stinks also We will not recommend or go back

Food was pretty good, waitress was awesome, but the hostess and then the manager made the whole experience awful.  This restaurant might want to think about hiring qualified people to work for them, especially in management.  I am thinking that customer service and knowing how to actually manage a restaurant should be on the top of the list for hiring a manager.  But what do I know? I am just a customer.

Cool, I like this place, from the food to their drinks and they have pretty good specials on their drinks most of the time so I have no gripes there. It is situated along the fox river and I like how you can sit at one of their booths along the windows and just watch the river and how they have docks that people can park their boat and be able to come inside. I usually go to McHenry when coming back from Wisconsin and I tend to make this one of the stops that I make when I pass through.

I am not sure why the reviews are so bad about this place, we frequent The Snuggery (aka Snug Harbor) very often. It is right on the river and the food is really good for bar food. The broasted chicken and mashed potatoes are a personal fave, along with the BLT salad. Service is sometimes slow- which is why I give it a 4. Otherwise, its about the nicest bar we have in McHenry. It's a great place to visit during the summer where you can sit in the sun, watch the boats go by and sip on a cold one. NFL season is also fun.. they always have great raffles during the big games.

When here last year ('10) when they were still called Snug Habor, we sat outside and enjoyed burgers and a couple of drinks from the Thursday night drink menu. The burgers were awesome and we knew our waitress from high school so that was an added bonus. Had a great time there! Went back a second time, the service was awful and food was sub par. This time we sat inside and were seated at a table that wasn't even clean, so they flagged a busboy who merely wiped it with a dry cloth. Our waitress was quite rude, the bar didn't have Disaronno (okay, not every bar has to have it, but our waitress told us they did) and we sampled other things from there menu which informed me to keep me expectations low if I ever come back.

I haven't gone back since they changed their name and menu, but they seem to still pull in a crowd on summer weekends.

If you live on - or boat on - the Fox River, you know the chances of quality food at a decent price is a dicey proposition at the establishments that have boat docks.  Your choices are typically mediocre food served as you are deafened by the sound of a mediocre band, accompanied by over priced, watered down drinks.  The Snuggery is a different experience, for the better.

We visited last Friday night, taking our boat up for dinner and a few drinks after work.  First - if you boat along the river, let me say, the Snuggery has THE best docks around for mooring your boat for a few hours.  Not only are they in excellent condition, but they are plentiful, and on Friday night, they had two "valets" (for lack of a better term) to help you dock and launch when your visit is over.

We arrived about 6 PM on a Friday - prime time, and we expected to wait for a table outside, which we did, about 20 minutes, which is acceptable to me at that time of day.  There was a small bar outside offering $3 beers of which we partook, and a live band that was NOT too loud or annoying was playing.

The place was packed, so when we were seated and placed our order, I expected it to take some time, which it did.  But when our food arrived it was attractive and obviously right from the kitchen.  I had the fried cod which was, well, fried cod. It was as expected and should be.  It came with a side of what appeared to be homemade asian style cole slaw, which looked promising but didn't have a lot of taste.  We enjoyed the view of the river, which was, after all, the reason we were there.  My husband had the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes and he said the chicken was exceptionally good - crunchy skin, moist, and not greasy in the least.  All in all, a decent meal for a slightly higher price than typical bar food, but by far one of the better establishments along the river.

i live right down the street from this place so i have been going here for awhile when it was snug harbor when it was mookies back in the day i love the outside patio it is awesome in the summer food i am kinda disappointed with its either a burger or burger or chicken service is horrible every time i come here dont get me wrong i know there buzy but when you wait 15 mins to get menus 10 to get your drinks and then another 20 to get your food it tends to be outrageous fri-sat at the bar is packed with drunk kids and adults screaming in your face bumping into you music is so so i tend to go back every once in awhile just cause its so close but i prefer to go other places before this but its worth it for the patio on a nice summer day

Bar food is okay, just keep the expectations low.

The real reason to come here is for the great views of the water and drinks in the summer.  Never been in town for live music nights during the week, but could be fun.

This was my first visit to Snuggery since the name change. We sat outside. The food was the same old menu that you get at every other bar/ restaurant. Service was OK. The ambience is absolutely dreadful and annoying. On the river side you're bombarded by the non-stop parade of drag boats running open headers. On the River Rd side you're treated to the non-stop roaring Harleys with their cutoff mufflers. Not to mention a plentiful supply of noisy cars and trucks complete with boom boxes. There was also a mediocre band that filled in the noise during the rare minutes when there wasn't some sort of blasting vehicle going by.  The Snuggery has destroyed our neighborhood and the Sheriff just turns a blind eye. This obnoxious establishment should be shut down.

I love this place. The price is right and the food is great. Great patio when the weather is right. Great views from the booth. For all of the reasons why Pat G. gave then a one star I give them 4 stars. Even my 83 year old mother likes to come here. Now I will agree the service during late lunch early dinner can be a little slow it has been great the other times I have gone. I will keep coming back.

I went for a quick lunch today for the first time since it changed hands from Snug Harbor...what a major shock-greeted by a Hooter's wannabee, seated at a stool that was so high, I had trouble jumping up on-bombarded with the unblievable noise of the restaurant patrons-the dynamics of the place has certainly changed from the lovely place to go for lunch or dinner with a great view of the river (the view to the river is now for the most part blocked by booths that have been built on risers and flat screen TV's that hang over the windows. The service was very slow and when the waitress came to ask how our food was, we commented that we couln't hear what she said.
The waitresses wear low cut tight black t-shirts-the posters are now hung proudly displaying women with the butt showing or the front very revealing-NOT WAS USED TO BE A FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE-
I will never go back-but I am more than dissappointed that a town like McHenry would approve this drinking, slinky, atmosphere when we are trying to lift the image of what McHenry portrays and use the ambience of the Fox River to it's advantage....Count me out and I'll be sure to pass this on to friends to STAY AWAY....
