Sadly I had recommended this place to Cheri P. (her review below) when I was still enamored with the place. I had liked SPGC because they did the best job of any place nearby. Pat's and Denver Teds (the two best places imo to get a cheesesteak) are too far away when I want cheesesteak in a pinch.
Anyway, this place seems like it's going downhill. The last several times I have been the fries I get are super undercooked and soggy. I like the Amoroso rolls and get a large amount of meat (especially compared to Chester's down the street) but last time was fatty and lukewarm. Also asked for xtra cheese, disappointed when I got home and discovered no xtra cheese (but of course paid for!). Workers seem more interested in joking around with each other and their friends that are hanging out rather than making the delicious sandwiches they used to make. Don't know what happened but a year ago I would have sworn by this place. Now? Not so much. Hesitant to return.
Cheese-steaky-deliciousness ! We had them delivered...(lazy!) I had to try the Green chili philly cheesesteaks of course. They were wonderful, I would have liked the bread to have been toasted. Speaking of bread, I ordered one for lunch recently without bread...great low-carb way to go...but it IS a lot of meat ! Yum !
Review Source:Yo! Â AMOROSO ROLLS! Â They use the real deal! Â A cheesesteak isn't a cheesesteak...without an Amoroso roll. Â I lived in Philly for 8 years. Â And everyone in Philly knows...there are 2 schools...you're either with Pat's...or with Geno's... Â I was with Geno's then switched to Pat's with the urging of my boyfriend at the time...but then Pat's changed their once dimly lit fluorescent lights to new bright ones! Â OY VEY!...NOT good after 2am...when all the club crawlers are drunk, hungry and are not in the mood for blazing reality lights. Â So...alas...we realigned with Geno's. Â :)
I will say this...South Philly Grill Cheesesteaks seem to use leaner cuts of meat...which is always a winner in my book.
So...yo! Â Two thumbs up!
