I'm only giving 2 stars because our server was very nice and attentive and the bread & oil were tasty. Â Other than that, the experience was less than stellar.
I got the wild mushroom pasta - which only contained button mushrooms (not the variety that was promised in the menu). Â The cream sauce was very, very, very thin and watery. Â The whole dish lacked seasoning. Â
My husband got manicotti and it was okay. Â Our daughter had pizza but didn't eat much of it. Â
I don't think we will go back - we could have had the same food at Fazoli's for half the cost.
This place only gets two stars because our server, she was excellent. Â The food on the other hand, not so much. Â
I ordered calamari for an appetizer, and it arrived cold and rubbery. Â Hubby love got the Alfredo, and I took it as a bad sign in that he kept talking about all the awesome fettuccine Alfredo he has elsewhere. Â I got the chicken scaloppini, the dish was okay but seemed confused. Â There was three biggish slices of chicken over angel hair pasta topped with diced tomatoes and bacon. Â It was like a scaloppini that was trying to be a carbonara.
Ahhhh Spageddies...you screwed yourself over the first time we visited you. Our waitress took forever to get our drinks to us and take our order. We waited, and waited, and waited. She comes back about a half hour later and asks us what we wanted again because she forgot to put in our freaking order! We should've just got up and left right then or spoken to a manager (hubby doesn't like it when I go bitch on ppl), but we stayed. Took forever to get our food and then it wasn't even worth the wait. Won't be going back here again.
Review Source:Mistake #1: Going at dinnertime
Mistake #2: Ordering seafood
Mistake #3: Not just waiting at Olive Garden (or checking Yelp first)
My bread wasn't done - the server was very nice about it, but it was completely doughy.
The roasted garlic was chewy, not crunchy and the flavored oil didn't seem very flavorful.
I didn't expect the calamari to be fresh, but I did think it should be crispy, well-seasoned and reasonably good. It wasn't any of that. Â The accompanying sauce was broken and, though it didn't taste bad, suspiciously watery.
The linguine was mediocre (a little overcooked, too), but the shrimp was terribly overcooked. Mussels were just a bad idea. Period.
Service was efficient and friendly, but the food? Fazoli's is better tasting, and much cheaper. Â As far the person who said the food here is authentic...NOT.
I have visited the restaurant three times over the last couple of years and have been satisfied; this time I was disappointed. Â I had the spaghetti with marinara sauce, which was fine. Â My wife had a shrimp/rib eye steak dish that was not very good. Â There were no vegetables. Â It came with roasted potato chunks that were mushy and absolutely sodden with grease to the extent that they were inedible. Â Someone in the kitchen should never have served them. Â It seems ok to me as long as I stick with the spaghetti. Â I am generally pretty forgiving about restaurant meals but this meal cost $17 and was clearly not worth it.
Review Source:Honestly, I prefer the OG to Spageddies - mostly because of the price. Â The entrees are basically the same price, but at least you get unlimited bread and soup/salad at the OG. Â
There's nothing really wrong with Spageddies. Â Although, they did leave the sticker on the lemon in my water, which was pretty gross. Â Overall, the food is alright. Â I've just experienced better for this type of restaurant. Â They should consider adding balsalmic vinegar to their olive oil for dipping the bread. Â
I should have known Spageddies was pretty unremarkable considering this place hardly has any cars in its parking lot even on weekends. Â Oh well, live and learn.
I really like Spagheddies. It's got a comfortable atmosphere, lots of menu options and pretty good prices. They have a good selection of seafood entrees, which is what I typically go for. Â I don't think I'd call this "authentic Italian" by any means, but that doesn't mean it's not good. I can't remember ever having bad service here, and it's always been a great place to go for family or work lunches and dinners.
Review Source:I have no clue what the other reviewers were thinking. Â Maybe I just came on the couple bad days. Â I have lived in this town for quite a while, and it appalls me that this place is rated higher than other, much better places in town. Â Their prices aren't great, and the food reminds me of microwaved pseudo-Italian. Â The only thing that is semi-decent is the bread and olive oil they give you to start out with. Â Everything goes downhill from there, though. Â I'd much rather be at olive garden, if I had to choose this type of place. Â If it was up to me, avoid this place like the plague.
Review Source:Amazing bread with olive oil to start with, decent service, otherwise not particularly spectacular.
If standardized mass produced Italian food is your thing, then Olive Garden is a much better choice. The food is not particularly bad but it tastes like a more sophisticated version of Fazolis. The wait for dinner and lunch can be a while; you're really better off not shelling out the time with your money.
Great, hearty, tasty, comfortable Sunday lunch.
Thanks for the tip on not filling up on the bread and splitting the Papa's House Salad. It took a lot of self control, but we do so, and loved every minute of it. Our lunches were good, but we agreed that the bread and salad really made the meal.
We left with 2 bottles of the house dressing (Sweet Basil Vinaigrette) and left over tricolor tortellini for later. 7 hours later, I'm still full.
Next time we are in Lafayette, we will make this our dinner or lunch stop and look forward to it.
Tip: they have 3 great week night drink specials that would make it worth the trip.
This place is GREAT! Â Especially, when considering the neighboring options. Â You can laugh at the people across the street (Olive Garden) when you are enjoying your more authentic Italian food. Â The staff seems like family and the food is phenomenal. Â Dont fill up on the bread, because the food portions are large. Â One suggestion, share a "Papa's House Salad" Â the sweet vinaigrette is yummy. Â Â One word of caution, if there is a major sporting event (aka Purdue basketball/football) avoid Lafayette altogether! Â Otherwise, pop into this Italian eatery, you wont regret it.. Â Did i mention this restaurant has numerous AAA awards for excellent service? Â GOOOOOO! Â EAT and be HAPPY.
Review Source:We were looking for a place to stop for lunch on a car trip from Columbus, OH to Chicago. Â We love Italian food so we stopped here. Â It was 1:00pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Â We liked the interior of the restaurant. A nice, casual, family atmosphere.
We had the spaghetti marinara and the steak pizziaola. Â The warm loaf of bread at the beginning of the meal was wonderful. Â The waiter puts down a small plate of it looked like fried garlic and then he adds olive oil to the plate. Â
My husband loved his spaghetti marinara. Â The serving size was good. It was enough to fill him up without having so much left over you could feed the rest of the family. My steak pizziaola was good also. Â Serve was efficient and friendly.
