This place gets jammed packed with live bands and people crowded around the bar drinking. Lots of people dancing and drinking and having a really good time. The bands were very good when we went, and I would definitely go again. Sometimes there is a cover charge. Don't come to sit down or have a conversation.
Review Source:Perfect spot for gettin' the grove on. Â If you love to dance to live music, this is the place. I stop by every year when I'm in town for Sundance, and most of the bands are amazingly entertaining. Â Blues, rock, it's all fun. Â MUDDY WATERS would be smiling. Yes, the cover is pricey, but c'mon, folks, let's support live music!!
I'd give it 5 stars if it were larger... it's pretty small.
I've liked this place for years, heading here not for food but for live music and the bar and it's always been great until recently. Â They have hired some awful bartenders!!!! If you are unfortunate enough to be stuck at the end of the bar by the entrance to the deck on the weekend you might as well just walk out and go to another bar. Â I've run into the same bartender three times here this summer and he just flat out ignores anyone or anything unless it has boobs. Â Ask the ladies, it's almost comical! He will give the house away to your girlfriend and her friends but wont even look in the guys direction. Â Being in the service industry myself, I like to tip but this guy doesn't deserve a dime of your hard earned money. I remember the days when Kelly used to bartend and not only did she know your drink but she would fire it up for you the second you walked in the door. Now that was service. Try and fix this place guys because I'd love to come back!
Review Source:The family went here on Friday night. The food was okay. We had the wings which were perfectly spicy. The nachos were sad; a large stack of blue tortilla chips with a small amount of cheese, jalapenos, and salsa and almost no chicken. For $8.00 I could have bought two full bags of chips and the makings to make a better nacho myself.
The real reason why I am giving this place one star is because of the way they pour their drinks and how much they cost for the pour. I was drinking gin and tonics. Each one cost $6.00. I couldn't taste the gin at all. I was paying $6.00 for tonic and ice! I had four gin and tonics the 2 hours we were there and was actually more sober after drinking then than before I started.
My brother and I went to this place upon a recommendation and were asked to pay a $10 cover charge each. We figured "why not" and gave the doorman our money. Then we went down the alley and into the bar. It was so completely overcrowded and rowdy, that we immediately tried to find a spot where people weren't pushing and shoving us.
We finally found a tiny spot at the bar where we were able to order drinks, and were disappointed by them. They were not made well. Oh well.. we tried to find a spot to sit or at least just stand so we could try to just hang out and try to enjoy ourselves as much as possible.
Then someone bumped me and spilled my drink after I'd only had a couple sips. I went back to the bar and told the bartender what happened. He was so unbelievably rude.. he said it wasn't his fault and refused to give me a new drink. I couldn't believe the treatment I was receiving! Finally after I put up a fuss about it, he grudgingly made me a new crappy drink. We figured at this point that we just wanted to leave.
On the way out, I asked the doorman what the maximum occupancy was. He said 175 people. I said there must be about 300 people in there. He and his pals just laughed at me. I asked him if he knows how many people were in there and he said about 150. That was a complete lie. I didn't feel like arguing with him so we just left and swore never to come back again. The only good thing I can say about the place is that the band was decent, from what we heard in the short 15 minutes we were there.
Do not waste your time or money on this place.. the people that work there are despicable!
Ok so 1st of all I've been here now twice, the 1st time was amazing! This time, however, was BULLSH*T! We were not greeted or sat. In fact we were blinked at. So we sat ourselves at the bar. We were not served even then! But 2 guys sat next to us and they were served right away! They have specials advertized on the menus 4-7 it was in the 4 o'clock hour. I found out they honored the guys' special but tried to charge my friend and i full price on everything! When i tried to dispute it the other help and customers began whispering and giggling. They eventually took iff the charge after a fight ensued but then HE TOSSED MY BILL AT ME, BELIGERANTLY!!! He then proceeded to say he didn't have to honor the special and threatened to take it back! So i threatened to dine and dash and left $0 tip ASS HOLES!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!
Review Source:The Spur is a good place to grab a quiet drink and get in some quality adult time.
I've never experienced a great band, great service or any real stellar qualities, but the atmosphere is quite nice and it's never been crowded when I've been in. It's an older crowd, which is great for relaxation, but I wouldn't show up expecting to party.
It can be quite an oasis during Sundance, since it's tucked away down a small alley/walkway.
This classic drinking hole is tucked inside an alley just off Main Street.
Parked nearby on Main Street. The grade was San Francisco steep.
Super-talented local musician Matt Frey was jamming with his band. The music was crowd-pleasing, accessible, mellow, and heartfelt. The blinking white xmas lights on the stage were a little over the top. His cover of Bob Marley's "Is This Love" was better than the original (I know that is sacrilege). Room to dance in front of the stage.
Nice mix of locals and people on vacation from all over the world. Cougars on the prowl. A good time was had by all.
The bouncer informed me that Bill Gates was there a month ago and spent a lot of his time dancing near the "Cowgirls are Forever" sign. Â The bouncer also advised watching out for the boisterous drunk Aussies breaking bottles outside.
The beer special was Wasatch's 'Chasing Tail' at $3 bucks. Â From the Wasatch website: " a delicious English Ale, made from traditional English malt and hops. Well-balanced for easy drinking." It was unremarkable. Â The bar wrapped all the way around the center of the establishment which made ordering drinks a piece of cake. There is also an outdoor balcony.
I'd love to have their sofa in my living room.
I love this place. Â Great casual bar with live music most nights. Â Off of Main Street in the back with a good local feel. Â Sure it's tough to get a decent drink or even a buzz without spending tons of money, but hey...it's Utah. Â Â
Didn't try the food, but 350 Main is pretty good so I guess that it would be too (same owner). Â Overall, a great spot!
hm. Â maybe i was there on an off night. but this place was packed to the brim with 24 to 30 year old men partaking in a pastime i like to call "douchebaggery".
i should have to say no more.
oh wait. i do have more. Â the band sucked but they get one full star because of their kilt wearing....the menu was icky at best, but at least they had red bull.
We were Main St shopping today and my sister's bf had to go to the bathroom so he stopped in here and ended up having a beer. So we joined.
He ordered a Wasatch beer (the demolisher? It had 8% alcohol, yay Utah!), she had a Negro Modelo. Meanwhile, I spied the bar to decide what I was going to imbibe. I saw Stoli Bluberi, which is always a super plus in my book. But next to it was Finlandia Grapefruit. You can take the girl out of Katsuya, but not the Katsuya out of the girl. Ryan Magerian taught me that the White Grapefruit Cosmo is much better with this alcohol than the menu-served Absolut Ruby Red, so I ordered a Cosmo with the Finlandia Grapefruit. It was really good, even with the normal red cranberry juice.
Mike, our bartender, was pretty cool. We were pretty much the only peeps in there considering it was Wednesday at about 3:30, but we enjoyed our shopping intermission. He said his brother Adam also works there and that they were having a blues band that night. The stage was small but very close to the bar. Sounds like they have live music most nights of the week.
Yes, the members-only deal applies here. But I think if you're cool enough they just might void the $5 fee.
We walked in here because we were hungry and they had a sign that said late night dining. Â To our dismay there was no food. Â So since we already paid our 5 dollar temporary membership we sat and had a couple of Wasatch beers. Â They had live music. Â Bartender was nice and attentive. Â Not too crowded. Â TVs above the bar. Â Crowd was kinda old. Â Not a bad place if you just wanna chill and drink.
Review Source:The Spur is where I watch people... Its got a little more of an upscale crowd than some of my other favorites, and there is always a lot of cougar hunting going on that can provide much humor and entertainment. In fact, frequently that is akin to the actual entertainment going on at the Spur. They have live music most nights (more in the winter) and though it jacks up the cover charge ("its for the band") it means that even when its not crowded there is stuff going on. They don't have any beer on tap which means that its REAL beer (not that 3.2 crap on tap down the street) but it also makes for a more expensive evening. Â I love the not smoking thing, it means that your fleece doesn't reek when you go skiing the next day! Â They just opened their own kitchen, so the food isn't from 350 anymore. Its still good, and still expensive, but its a little different. Â Other than that, the Spur works for one drink or a few on your bar hop of main street. Â P.S.You can beat the one drink rule by ordering a sidecar.
Review Source:good drinks, and you're not allowed to smoke inside so that helps prevent the smokey, smelly hair the next day....what a novel idea...and as a bonus...you can go across the little walkway outside and enter into 350 Main's (sister restaurant) outside heated deck and smoke in there....perfect...a quiet open non smokey area to go and smoke (and there's tables and chairs to sit on too)! Â oh, the food in the spur is good too because you can order off of the 350 Main menu and the spur menu itself is good too. Â good crowd in the bar and there's usually good live music...fun place, good atmosphere but sadly, there is no escaping the utah one ounce per drink rule, damn that rule! Â if you like martini's DO NOT come to utah
