WORST restaurant I've ever been to!! If I could give it zero stars, I would. The minute my husband and I walked in, we were made to feel unwelcome. We were not greeted by anyone. After a minute or two of wandering around, we walked up to a bartender and asked him where we should sit. He told us to "sit anywhere".

After sitting down at a table we noticed how disgustingly dirty the restaurant was: gum and candy on the carpet, straw wrappers on the floor and the tables weren't cleaned off whatsoever. After 10 minutes, our server came up to us and handed us a piece of paper with ONLY three different food items on it. This contradicted the menu that is posted online that offered a good variety of dinner food. Since we were starving, we decided to stay anyway on the off chance the food was decent. After waiting over 35 minutes, our fries, quesadilla and chicken tacos finally arrived (by the way, we were one of only three occupied tables in the entire place). What we got, was not what we bargained for. The chicken quesadilla came with no sour cream, guacamole, garnish or anything. The fries were overly salty and the chicken tacos were dry as a bone. They didn't have salsa, taco sauce or anything on them.

After we were done with our meal (if you can even call it that), we got our bill (after waiting another 10+ minutes). After reviewing the bill, we realized that our server charged us an automatic 18% gratuity. RIDICULOUS! After the horrible food and service, there was no way we were paying 18%! That was the final straw. I found our server and confronted him asking why we were automatically charged an 18% tip and why we had not been notified ahead of time of their gratuity policy. He told us that it was outlined in our http://Restaurant.com coupon, when in fact the coupon said nothing about charging the customer an automatic 18% gratuity. After he conceded, he proceeded to begrudgingly remove the gratuity charge. What a fricken shyster!! We will NEVER go back to this place again!!! Beware! Stay away. You will regret it!

I went on a Saturday when they had the free salsa dancing lessons. I didn't realize it was an intermediate class so it was too fast paced.

The food was just overpriced and not that flavorful, and the drinks were weak.

They only played salsa music the rest of the night, and that's fine..but I was over it pretty quickly. Creepy dude sat down at my table and make too much awkward small talk, but that's not the bar's fault :)

Meh, probably wouldn't venture out there again. Maybe if I lived closer?

Saturday salsa dancing is the BOMB!!! Drink specials of $5 too...I would of drank more, except I had to drive myself home (poopy).

This is my favorite place to salsa dance and I hear that poopy Roseville is trying to make salsa dancing go away. WTF?!? Salsa dancers are awesome people. We are not rowdy-out-of-control-drunk folks who break stuff and get loud outside. We come to DANCE, DANCE, DANCE!!!

Please, please, please don't let Wednesday and Saturday salsa disappear from the Station.

Was there to watch the Sacramento Blues Society fundraiser. The garlic fries didnt taste like garlic (i had to inspect the plate and found a pool of garlic puree on the bottom of regular fries). The aoli sauce a joke. The chicken nachos scary.... that's all I gotta say about them nachos. oh... nacho yo best nachos! And the burger... one word: ewe. I give the place two stars because the staff was nice.

If you like west coast swing dancing, The Station should definitely be your next stop. I live downtown and don't get to the Roseville area much, but I make it a point to go here on Tuesdays.

Tuesday nights are the BEST! First, you have some of Sacramento's best west coast swing instructors teaching beginning and intermediate west coast swing. Then it's open dancing all night. The folks at http://www.sacswings.com really know their stuff and are super patient and helpful when you are just learning. Just to watch everyone else dance is entertainment enough.

Bartenders and staff there are awesome, especially Kristi!!! Haven't eaten there yet since I'm too busy dancing, but may try some delectables soon. It does smell really amazing every time I'm there though.

Easy Review in bullet points:
-The service was excellent.
-The Jalapeno burger was on fire.
-Plenty of seating and big screen TV's to watch
-Very friendly wait staff.

We will definitely be coming here more often

I've been going to The Station for quite a few years, and I always have a really good time. They have a full-service bar with the nicest cocktails waitresses and bartenders. They don't have happy hour, but they don't really need one as their prices are decent all the time.

They have a full menu with a variety of food to please any palette. I belong to several Meetup groups and we frequent The Station to see live bands playing on the weekends, or learn Salsa lessons during the week. the also have country line dancing, west coast swing and several other types of dancing lessons to choose from.

The Station has two large dance floors, a large outside patio if you smoke or to cool off.

It's a great place for large groups, to hold your special event or for a nice evening out. Call Travis (the owner) and tell him Jen sent ya.

I am looking forward to the new chef Larona and her from scratch menu when it is up and running. They are revamping the menu and will be having happy hours worth meeting up with friends in the near future. They are not staffed for meals in a hurry but the potential is there. The new menu is very fair priced for what you get so I will be coming back.
Update: The owner did not appreciate Larona's talents and I am guessing it is not worth your time now that she is gone.

This review is based on the DINING ONLY and not the dancing or Entertainment.

We were driving around, and had two kids with us, and we had a coupon for The Station, so we decided to try it. We had been many months ago, when it was mainly a dining place and it was very good, and busy with diners. Recently however, the dining has taken a back seat. The menu has changed, the chef has changed and as one of the reviews below stated, it's more like 'bowling alley' food.

I read the reviews before we went, so I was prepared for 'bowling alley' food, and bowling alley food is what we got.

It was early in the evening, (around 7pm or so) and the band was just setting up for that nights entertainment. It was a weekday, and we were the only ones there to actually eat a meal. The greeter, host, waiter, busser, and cashier were all the same guy. And he was very nice and attentive and happy. No complaints there. He told us we could sit "anywhere" we wanted as he handed us menus, so we wandered over to one of the train cars and tried to find a table that wasn't dirty. It was dark and cold in those train cars and we were glad we had brought our jackets.

The menu does have a variety of options, and the kids got the normal stuff - hamburger and chicken strips. Reading the review below about the salad, we opted not to get that, but instead I got the chicken teriyaki plate and my wife got the chicken wrap.

Both were OK, not too bad, but pricey for what we received.

Nobody else came in to dine, while we were there, and I don't think too many people too. Most come for the bar and the dancing.

We didn't go to Jack in the Box as the reviewer did below, but we did go away feeling like we had just bowled a split instead of a strike.

If you want dancing and entertainment, go! If you want a nice dinner, probably best to go somewhere else.

Came here for a friend's birthday (over 15 of us in the group total) and specifically for Salsa Night (Thursdays). Mike Del Campo, the instructor, is great -- and funny at the same time! Don't be afraid to meet new people or have a strange dance partner: they basically line up guys and girls and rotate with each song. Ya get what ya get, either a good leader or a beginner, older or younger guys. The lesson started with a basic step, then a single turn, then a combo involving three turns and fancy hand placement. When we weren't dancing, there was plenty of seating to the left of the entrance and the server kept us filled up on water pitchers, drinks, and whatever other food orders (sweet potato fries, fresh nachos, chicken strips, wraps, salad). Parking lot is tight in front of the establishment but more in the back. No cover before 8pm! They also had Zumba from 6-7pm ($5), then the free salsa lessons started at 8:30pm. The dance floor opens up for salsa (special DJ, awesome music) until closing. Other nights they have country line dancing, karaoke, 70s/80s covers bands, blues, etc. I'll have to compare it to The Grad in Davis. Had a great time at The Station!

Great location, great building (actual rail car dining rooms!) and it even has a great atmosphere. So why does this restaurant suck so much??

My fiancee and I didn't have high expectations and it's a damned good thing that we didn't. It's a damned good thing that we both have the attitude that when we have a terrible meal or experience, it's at least a story we have.

We arrived at 8:30 (that's not late for a Friday night, is it?) and there was karaoke going on...bad karaoke. Okay, no biggie. We were greeted by the bartender who seemed genuinely surprised when we told here that we were there for dinner.

The bartender was a very nice lady and quickly grabbed two menus and walked us into one of the dining cars, which was PITCH BLACK. She fumbled for the light switch and when she found it, she said, "We turn them off to conserve energy!" Ooooookay. 8:30 on a Friday night and you're conserving energy in the dining room. Gotcha.

We glanced over the menu and it couldn't have been more strange. Pizza, pasta, salads, wraps, Asian spring rolls, fajitas, burgers and...get this...chow mein. Seriously.

To start, we ordered a "Cheese and Fruit Plate". When it was placed on the table, I could almost picture the 7-11 container in the trash somewhere in the kitchen. No joke.

The cheese squares was directly from one of those mini party platters you find at a Chevron station. You know the kind where the cheddar cheese has a little white powder on it and you have to bite through the husk to get to the "edible" part? Yeah, it was like that. A plastic thimble of ranch dressing squirted from an old squeeze bottle of generic brand sat in the middle. Four small pieces of celery, some carrot fetuses (they were too small to be full-term baby carrots), and some teensy grapes.

And that was just the appetizer.

My fiancee was facing the kitchen and she remarked that it looked like a kitchen at a bowling alley. I cringed. I knew she was right. She was and I quickly realized that if you liked bowling alley food, this place is great with the exception of it not actually being INSIDE a bowling alley so that you could at least work off the bowling ball that their food leaves in your belly.

We ordered steak fajitas and a chicken fiesta salad. Bad call. The onions were so overcooked that they had caramelized and shriveled up. I could hardly distinguish the onions from the two or three bell peppers mixed in. The "beef" was also overcooked and looked like (and tasted like) little gnarly branches from an old tree (Marinated bark, anyone?).

The chicken fiesta salad was just as bad. You could almost see the bagged lettuce being poured out into the Costco taco salad shell. The reason why there was so much lettuce - in my opinion - was to mask the fact that there was hardly any actual chicken in this salad. We made a game of it, each of us saying "Eureka!!" every time we found a bit of chicken. Ugh.

We struggled to say, "Thank you" to the waitress/bartender when she gave us the bill. To be fair, she was actually very friendly and attentive.

The menu and kitchen were worse than any bowling alley greasy spoon I've ever seen, yet the bill was about twice what it should have been for what we got.

We couldn't get away from this place fast enough. I pulled out of the driveway and we both remarked how it was a cool building with a great location (even saw an outdoor patio), so how could someone f**k it up so badly?

I drove directly across the street to the Jack in the Box - I am not making this up - and ordered some burgers and chicken strips since our meal at The Station lacked anything resembling protein. I actually started this review on my iPhone at the table in the Jack in the Box waiting for our order.

It's too bad the food is so terrible. The place is actually nice. The middle area (The Station is quite big) has a great dance floor, stage and a nice bar and there are plenty of great areas for dining.

So, there's tons of potential with this place if someone wants to go in and kick the owners and managers out on their ass. I'd say that they could easily go across the street and apply for jobs, but I'm pretty sure that even Jack in the Box wouldn't consider them.

I love coming here to dance on Tuesday nights.

Drink prices are okay. Not a fan of their water policy. (Must buy one drink before getting a glass of water.) It's a bit frustrating for those of us who need to drive long distances to attend/didn't bring $3 for a soda, etc. (Of course, there isn't a water fountain I can find...)

But, I don't come for the beverages. I come for the dancing, the fun people I dance with, and the music.

Everyone be aware. This is one of the best places in the Sacramento area for dining and dancing. However, the City of Roseville is trying to shut them down. Today we attended the City council's appeal hearing. The decision was that since a citation was issued and there was not permit, the citation held up. However, no permit is required or at least cannot be obtained. Are you scratching your head also?
The City's representative presented a confusing charge. The Station is required to get dance permit although their designation does not require one. The City of Roseville has refused to issue one to The Station. So it is a cat and mouse game and you know the cat will win. Shame on you Roseville for trying to shut down one of the most wholesome venues in town. So it can become again a haven for crime causing elements. Taxpayers and residents should be aware!

I go to the station on Tuesday nights for West Coast Swing, and the place is normally hoppin! It is the best venue for WCS in Sacramento. The drinks are average priced and good, and the appetizers taste great and not too expensive. The DJ for WCS is great and the people are Awesome!

Went here last night not a bad set up. The music was ehh before our event dj took over. We didnt eat, but the food coming out looked decent. The drinks were strong enough. There were only two servers walking around the room and although they were crazy friendly, there just wasnt enough of them around the place to handle an event of our size. I would go back to see if the crowd is good and to try the food.

Pros: friendly staff, and ample lounge space.
Cons: not enough staff, and no soap in the restroom(container filled with water).

Last word: Go there and see for yourself, bring a group of friends and chill in a big booth with a flat screen.

Get down tonight!
The Station has a nice big dance floor. One of the biggest in town. They have both live bands and DJs spinning hits from the 70s through today. A lot of people who know partner dances show up here so if you know how to lead of follow, this is a good place to be!
The only food I've had here was your standard pub grub and it was ok. This is a place to dance, not dine. Well worth going back to.

Found this place has a Blues Jam from the http://Sacblues.com site, Checked out the jam this past Monday night. It was a nice surprise but sad at the same time. The place was empty, my wife and I were the only patrons as the rest were the muscians or working there. We had our own private 90 minute blues show and it was great. Heard some great guitar...Angel rocks, Gustavo has Robert Cray down, Steve is a kick, he needs to do som Joe Walsh stuff, Joe on the bass and the Jimmy Callazo the host on the drums keeps everyone in rhythm. Very casual, Buffalo wings were good and the drinks were a steal. We were home by 11:20 and had a great time. Come on down on Mondays and bring your friends, hear music in the raw. Better yet bring your voice, guitar, KB or sticks and join in. Support your local blues. Checked the webstie out and every night is something different here, dance lessions, Country Swing, Salsa, Karaoke, Classic R&R, 80's hits.

UPDATE: The Dancing is great, unless the DJ is singing, and the regular waitress is great, but the one that backs her up really pissed me off. I had a drink that was about a quarter of the glass full, and i get up to go dance, come back and it's gone, so i go to the guy that's usually busting table, and he didn't take it and told me to ask the waitress there. So I ask the waitress and she straight tells me she took it because she thought nothing was left in it. HELLO... even ice is good when you're coming back from dancing. So she tells the bartender that someone is complaining that she took someones glass that had a quarter of a drink left in it, and instead of comping me for the drink, she tells me that they needed the glasses (they were stalked up full on their shelves for the glasses) . I am VERY upset with them now, especially because this is the first time I've ever had trouble with them, and especially because they wouldn't compensate me for their mistake on taking my drink.

Tuesday Night is a great night, at the Station. The Sacramento West Coast Swing community has an amazing dance where some very high level dancers come out to play. Even if you are new to the scene don't worry there is always a lesson around 7:30. Come out and dance to all the songs you hear on the radio.

I come to the Steel Train Station on Tuesday nights for the West Coast Swing dancing which starts at 8:15pm! There is a lesson before which starts at 7:30pm. The staff at the station is friendly and efficient. The food it good bar food and reasonably priced. They offer 5 appetizers for $5 after 7pm. This is a great place to come and hang out with friends!

I come here every Tuesday night (well most) for West Coast Swing dancing. There is a lesson before dancing. Beginning lesson is included with the $5 entry fee and the intermediate lesson is only $5. You wont find a better price anywhere.

As for the establishment. The drinks are reasonably priced, as is the food for the portions.

If you want to learn how to dance and meet people with the same interest, then try this place! I visited when Mike Del Campo was teaching Salsa dancing and the place was packed. From the looks of everyone's faces, they truly enjoyed the atmosphere and the salsa instructor. I ordered the Nacho plate and it was fresh and tasty. Check it out for yourself :) No Cover Charge when I went Thursday 7/30/09.

Not one of my favorite places to go. First time i went was OK, but second time, it was worse. + 1 star for courteous and nice bouncers, but otherwise, I'm not coming back here anymore.

They are pretty strict on dress code and are slow to let you in. They make it seem like its really crowded by having a HUGE line outside because they let people in slow, but when you get in, its really fairly empty (we went on Memorial Weekend). Music was good, but only 1 dance floor. It seemed like most people were just watching from the sidelines and really no mingling. There were some annoying camera crew trying to get people on film and it was just messing up the vibe on the dance floor.

Regardless of what they say about 18+, it was 21+ on the night that I went. That turned like 1/4 of the line away.

Cover is $10 on the weekends and drinks are pretty standard night club prices (6-8 bucks).

UPDATE: I went on Sat., 2 days after this review and the place was busy. That had a promotion on 100.5 radio and waived the cover for those who called the station to be put on the guest list, that brought in a crowd. As I expected the crowd was about 60% in their 20's, so if that is your crowd, I really think you will like this place. I like loud music, but my eardrums were hurting by midnight and I had to leave, which is not like me at all. Someone..please turn it down a little!

The Station Nightclub just opened a couple of weeks ago and I decided to go on a Thursday night to check out the new club. This location was the old "Paradise Junction", but the new owner gutted and remodeled the place nicely.

The layout is done well, two dance floors, plenty of seating and a few private booths for "table service", which I feel the need to comment on. While I very much appreciate a club as nice as this opening a short drive from my house, I think having table service is just not in tune with the area. Now, if we lived in Vegas, New York, L.A. or S.F., that might work fine, but lets be honest here, we just don't have the same crowd around here. This is especially true when a venue doesn't have a nice eating establishment attached to it. Even the Park Ultra Lounge in downtown Sac. has a hard time selling table service. People in this area just don't spend $100- $150 or so for a booth and a bottle of vodka. I would hope and guess that this might be eliminated and let the booths open up for anyone who wants to sit there.

The staff was nice and the service was good.

The crowd was about 10 people from 9pm until 10:45pm when we left. The seem to be going after the 20's age group and they don't get out earlier then 10 or 11pm, so it could have been busier later. Speaking of their target market, I think it's a mistake to aim at the twenty year olds only as I have literally spoken to hundreds of 40 somethings over the years who have been wanting a decent place to dance near Roseville. Sure, the 20's go out more, but the 30 and 40's crowd has more cash to spend.

That leads me to the next topic.... Theme nights... Wed. is country, yuck! Thursday is good dance music, cool! Friday is latin, huh? and Sat. is back to regular D.J. tunes..great! I think that is too diverse, just stick with good dance music and drop the country, especially the country and drop the latin too. They should make an 80's dance music night...now were talking!!!!

Drinks: They were OK, but tequila they used for the well drink that I ordered was the rot-gut nasty very cheap stuff. Worse then Jose Quevo. So you might want to order top shelf here.

Final thoughts: What I notice here is a place with a lot of potential, but not a lot of focus on a target market or much marketing...they should be listed in the S.N.R. paper because they need a bigger crowd. They had more employees then customers when I went and that is never good. The $12 cover on weekend might scare some people away, especially until they get a good following going. I am hoping that they do well as Roseville needs a dance club.
