Judging The Station solely on the actual quality of their food, the place is great. Their cooks know their shit and make really outstanding pub grub, including all the usual staples. It also doesn't hurt that the price is right, as you only pay about five bucks for a burger on any given night, and if you go on a Tuesday the burgers are only two bucks. Food in general at the Station is excellent.
That being said, I only go on Monday or Tuesday nights, because that is when the good bartender works. They only employ three overall, and one of the others is perfectly fine, but the young woman who works weekends is absolutely useless. Getting your drinks refilled essentially requires stripping naked and waving your glass at her and screaming her name, so it's a pain in the ass.
To make things worse, the quality of the beers on tap is SORELY lacking. They have only Miller Genuine Draft, Miller Lite, and Killian's Irish Red ($3.25, 16 oz). Although none of these are terrible beers, there's nothing actually "good" at this bar to drink. When asked about their bottle beers, they respond "Well, we don't have anything you'd really like. I mean, it's the same stuff, except maybe Heineken?" I hate Heineken. So the beer supply is terrible.
To make things worse, the clientele are predominantly a bunch of middle aged bigots. I encourage all African-American users of Yelp to visit the Station, if for no other reason than to make the idiots who come to this place really uncomfortable. There's no reason people like that should be let think that they're the normal ones, right? Go in, have some food, get a cheap beer, and make them feel uncomfortable. It's the least you could do.
This place is about a mile from my house, so I go often. I wish there was another bar within walking distance, but this is it. All I can recommend is that you go on Monday or Tuesday nights -- the bartender on those evenings is the best, and she'll treat you well no matter who you are or what background. The rest? I can't say the same-- if you aren't white and want to be treated like a human being, try a different bar. Unfortunately, this is the only bar in town.
Excellent bar. Â This place went a while without food, but now it's back and it's AWESOME!!!! Â Their burgers are amazing. Â They have 30 cent gigantic chicken wings on Thursdays that are about as good as it gets. Â Try their Buffalo Shrimp too (darn glad the guy next to me made me try his). Â Super friendly staff and nice back porch. Â Oh, and they're prices are right on.
