Greeted with a warm and friendly smile, then seated by Mariah. She also later was my waitress. She answered all my questions regarding items on the menu. While scanning the menu I was forced to listen to the cooks speak, laugh & joke loudly in Spanish with each other. I watched them continually working on the other side of the 1930's style open lunch counter. (As I later neared the counter I could hear why they were speaking loudly, other than working hard, was to be heard over the appliance fans.
I ordered the Western BBQ 'N Bacon Steak burger with an extra slice of cheese, fries with cheese and a Coca Cola.
The drink arrived folled by the food soon thereafter with the extra cheese on the burger but none on the fries. I reminded the waitress of this. The statement I heard seems so typical nowadays, "They always forget that." (Apparently she did too or she would not have brought it to me that way.) She immediately took it away and later returned with the liquid cheese on the thin cut fries.
The bacon...about the size of 2/3 of a single thin slice. The two meat patties were fairly thin. Definately more bread than meat. The flavor was amazingly obvious though. Mariah checked on me about the meal.
Upon finishing my meal I looked around and only saw one other table occupied. A while passed before I was checked on again to remove the dirty plate and refill my drink.
Cooks heard saying puto & puta several times aloud.
A good idea but fell short.
Steak N Shake is like good fast food with a sit-down atmosphere because the prices are very reasonable, but the quality is high. Â I walk it and it's like Ruby's Diner. Â It has a 50's diner quality to it. Â The cooks and waiters dress in white and everybody is very friendly. Â
The burgers are made with fresh balls of ground beef streak that are flattened on the griddle. Â What you get is a delicate patty with larger-than-normal chunks of ground steak. Â Very delicious.
The shakes are indeed good. Â What I like about them is they're not too thick and easy to drink with a straw. Â Even though I didn't have my lactase pills handy, I still risked it with a strawberry shake. Â So tasty, but my stomach paid the price later on. Â That's the sign of a good milkshake. Â Real milk!
