Stillwater is an institution. However, for some odd reason, ornery is sometimes served cold on the menu. That said, I have not ordered it, as I generally stick to the specials!
What I do like, and you'll like too, about Stillwater is the location - sitting on the water is amazing - with sailboats anchored nearby, a boat builder next door, wild horses grazing in the distance, and of course the "characters" of Beaufort engaging in conversation all together help make Stillwater a favorite.
The wine list is a nice selection of very tasty choices. Meanwhile the chef uses the freshest ingredients (think fish) to craft incredible dishes every time I visit, and my visits are becoming numerous. If the grouper is on special catch it!
Finally, I can't overlook the amazing bar, fitted with two highly talented bartenders. Try the Mojito and Painkiller (local favorite) to get you started.
Enjoy.
You need to eat here if you can eat outside on a warm summer evening. Period. Food is pretty good, though the usual tuna and local seafood, but they are not to the same level as some of the nicest restaurants in town. But you have to enjoy the view - they do take reservations for inside, but the patio is first-come, first-serve.
