So much fun! Lots of new faces, nothing more sad OR MORE GLORIOUS than generations changing hands! Becky n Bob are great bartenders!

Stopped in this afternoon for a drink.  Nice little bar.  The bartender was friendly and we enjoyed talking with her about the bar's history.  Bar patrons were friendly and welcoming which is always very nice.  They have some killer drink specials including a $3.00 kamikaze.  We'll try that one next visit.  Stop in.  You will like this spot.

Holy smokes - WTF happened here! This bar is HIT OR MISS - I mean that literally, sometimes you're threatened to be beat other nights its fine. Reminds me of school drama. Once upon a time, circa 2008, I had a great review of this place on Yelp. I've been forced to delete that review and it breaks my heart because it was 4 stars. Stay clear. Bad news drama. This was a favorite watering-hole gone bad. Trashy and so sad because I loved this place. I contribute this to the change in bartenders. It now seems very clear that the early week bartenders are very rude and disrespectful - even when off duty (I will elaborate on this more in a minute).

I am going to attempt to be two-sided on this review. because this is a personal experience, but an important one, because clearly management is sliding. Last Halloween, I attended Stockmans annual event, I mistakenly sat on someones motorcycle for a picture (without permission from its owner) and a fellow yelled at me. Under the influence, I flipped off said fellow who was "in costume" (later to find out he was bouncer). Soon followed by being asked to leave (which I did). This is not where the review ends.

Since I'm a regular at Stockmans I've been in several times post-then and never saw said person (Tommy) who asked me to go that night - while the situation was inappropriate (on my behalf) the way Stockmans reacted was also rude and hostile - to someone who had not intention of doing anything wrong, it was just a misstep. I was upset but understood. Forward to yesterday, when I have the luck or mis-luck of being served by the bartender (former bouncer from Halloween - Tommy) and I see the bike owner from Halloween chatting it up with a lady I've not seen before at the bar. I scoot down, apologize for the Halloween mishap and am rudely interrupted by the lady about how rude I am, yada yada and why did I sit on his bike (circa 6 months ago) during my apology. Now this is where things get interesting, I have to move down on the bar because things are getting so hostile on her behalf. After I move she is screaming about beating my ass in the parking lot and to put me on blast for her shift (OMG - she works there? If I was the owner I would have been appalled by her behavior regardless of if she was on or off the clock - totally inappropriate). She's going psycho for like 15 minutes and 2 patrons leave, because its getting ridiculously uncomfortable.  Mariam the bartender continue to threaten about coming outside when I leave and I am forced to asked Tommy (bartender who previously booted me on Halloween) to walk me to my car - which looking back he should have called a cab, but things were getting too hot too quick). After I leave, I call another Stockmans bartender Becky and explain what went down because I thought she had some authority - turns out that call went disregarded..

Random side bar - if you go to stockmans facebook page you will find many pictures posted of women sitting on said motorcycle (with and without the owners permission)

Caution...things have really changed in 2012/13. Service is in the gutter, unless its Fri or Sat or Sun. Be very careful about the hostile service including the bartenders who are off duty getting smashed at the bar. The worst part is there were only 5 people in all at the bar and I clearly understand why.

Sadly, I will not be back by choice and I really liked this place, it is also in my backyard and I know several people who come here so it may be hard to avoid. I will do my best to keep NEVER coming back until I hear things change.

This place is pretty eclectic.  Depending on what day you go there, it can be a kaleidoscopic experience.  I first went here over 40 years ago & it hasn't evolved beyond the dark, hunched over patrons who turn & look to see who just walked in the door.  A great neighborhood bar!

Live down the street so have been a few times.  Ok bar... terrible bar tenders!  Tall guy seems to be doped up and unable to hold a conversation let alone a facial expression of any kind.  Full of regulars who stare you down and all turn and half break their necks to look you up and down.  If you're looking for a tiny, fly infested place to be a regular alcoholic, this is your place!!

The Bar: Stockman was a cozy little place with quite the few regulars for a Monday night. Sleek wood bar and wood floors.
The Crowd: The patrons were quite rowdy by the time we arrived and were having a difficulty understanding our concept.
Service: Not the best for a newbie. Waited about 5 minutes at the bar to even get noticed.
Prices:$5 domestic glass. No Pitchers. Shots $5
Entertainment: Couple of pool tables tucked in the next room and a jukebox that seemed to play nothing but oldies.
    Restroom: Dirty, smelly, small
Bartender Chat:None, this guy had no interest in us since we were not locals.
Closing statement:  Grabbed just a handful of pictures, mostly of the outside.  Unfortunately we didn't stay long.

Typical Stockman - visited after Cinco De Mayo with family & my sister and I got simultaneously hit on by a guy out w/ his "fwb." Yes, she was sitting next to him. Yes, she was clearly into him. Yes, he was a dirtbag.

All this set to the dulcet tones of Johnny Cash. On repeat. Til we played some Christmas music.

Some folks really love this place, and I say go for it! Ain't ma scene, but if it's yours, have at it.

In looking to kill some time, I decided it was time for a TGIF, rainy-day cocktail. I passed through the cigarette-smoking throng and entered the Stockman and was shocked to see how full the bar was at 3:45 on a Friday! This place is awesome though. I got my Jameson neat and claimed one of their ridiculously spacious booths and soaked it all in. I couldn't help feeling like an interloper at some secret watering hole though! No worries though. This place is totally divey and unpretentious - just what I want for a Friday afternoon.

I am not ashamed to admit this- I am a "regular" at Stockman Club.

My best friend and I frequent this little, dim lit bar often after this kiddos are down for the night.

Our favorite place to de-stress, with strong drinks, a cool atmosphere, a jukebox (that NEVER plays rap.. imagine that!), pool tables, and clean bathrooms. A little bench outside for us smokers :)

The music is never too loud to hear over. You don't have to do acrobatics around wasted people dry humping in the middle of the room. You don't have to wait and wait for a bartender to catch you standing there awkwardly, in between them flirting with the guests.

The endless supply of strange people is AWESOME. I love to people watch, and have never found a bar better for that activity than Stockman's. It is a safe, small, neighborhood bar that I am proud to say "everybody knows my name."

And that takes me to my favorite part of my Stockman's experience- Bartender Bob. He alone makes us come back every time!

Well, him and the roosters that scream at all hours of the night in the park across the street. This is Old Fair Oaks, after all.

Reasonably priced, strong mixed drinks, - mission well accomplished.. : )

    I ordered a vodka & cranberry - Tall
Bought my pops a few rounds of bud, ordered myself another mixer.
It was called Tangerine - a mix of gin, sweet & sour, and some other goodness that came out PERFECT! It was both flavorful and strong. Also only cost me three bucks for a tall cocktail, heavy on the gin ; ).........pinball machines, pool tables, and arcade games were available, as well as an old cig machine that still looked to be up & running. Likin' the nostalgia not the tobacco.....but hey good to know for those that do. Nice little find here in Old Fair Oaks. Good choice on my part for requesting a drink before heading to Sunflower's...Will be back!

Stockman Club is definitely a good place to stop in and have a drink. The people here always seem nice. Is feels sort of small town bar because of its location. Parking can be hard to find at times but it is worth stopping here.

Fun, chill dark dive bar with a great juke box.  There is also a pool table in the back.  Parking can sometimes be difficult, but its a fun place to have a starter drink at the beginning of the night or a final drink at the end of the night.

I get the bar dice...but is it necessary for you to slam it down on the bar as hard as you can?  You have no biceps, you have no chest, you have no testosterone..jesus h christ already...it does not make your penis grow the harder you slam the dice..it just makes me leave, not buy drinks, as well as not tip the tender..

I don't come here much but every time I do, I wish I was here more. About twice a month I stop by with some co-workers for a few cold ones to take the edge off the day. The crowd is my kind of crowd; no problems, no nonsense, good people.

Now that we've taken up residency in Fair Oaks, this is our "go to" dive bar (read: staggering distance). So, now that we've visited a few times, here's the lowdown:

Friendly attentive staff. Stiff drinks. Ice cold Rumple Minze (always good for a star from me).

Mixed crowd. Really depends on when you go. Weekend mornings the place is packed with weekend warriors and "retirees turned bikers". Weekend nights the place gets kinda "bro-ish", with frat-boy and frisbee golf enthusiast favorites "Sublime" dominating the jukebox. Late night weekends seems to get bros that have been 86'd from Players down the road. Annoying fuckers, those guys. "Dude! Sublime, maaaaan! Best band ever, bro! Let's go wakeboarding tomorrow!!"

    Blah, no thanks.

Weekday nights are the time to go, with a more "local Fair Oaks" crowd. What does that mean? I'm not quite sure yet.

Weird layout. Dark, funky dive bar in front, incredibly brightly lit gameroom on the side.

There seems to always be a buttload of folks looking to get laid, both male and female, so if that's your thing...

Did I mention the ice cold Rumple Minze? Fuck yeah, they do.

Great bar. The crowd varies, but if you hit it just right, it feels like a dive bar should.

    I dig it.

Came in here with some good folks during the Fair Oaks Spring Festival to grab a cool one.  We ended up sitting at one of their round booths (love those!) and having a few, heh.

I LOVE the music they play in here.  I kept saying that "swanky, sleazy type bar rock music" which probably didn't make a lick of sense to anyone but me, but dammit it's a good thing.

Also... one of the several bodacious bartenders said they make the best Bloody here.  It definitely did not disappoint and I can't wait to come back for more.  And the bartenders listen too... I said "make it freaking spicy" for the 2nd one, and it almost burned my GD face off.  Thank you oh beautiful bartendress, I heart you.

Nothing fancy but I loved it. I got sent to a week long training in Carmichael a couple years ago and found this place by accident. Everyone was as friendly as the local pub folks should be. Drinks weren't pricey and I liked it better than any of the other area bars. Next time I'm in Sac I'm stopping in for a few.

I have only been here a few times which is weird because I grew up in Fair Oaks (I actually live down the street from this bar and it is stumbling distance which makes it that much more shocking it isn't one of my "regular" spots).

I dig the chill nature of this place.  The people seem laid back.  The bartenders all have been pretty cool.  One was super slow but it looked like he was stoned or drunk or something.  As soon as he got to us (with no wait) he was all over it like flies on horsesh*t.  It happens.

    I will be back ...

This is one of those places for me where I go, "What? I haven't written a review for this spot?". It's been around for as long as I can remember! When I was a kid, it used to scare me. What goes on behind those doors in the dark? Why does it smell like cigarettes?

Now that I'm old(er), it has kind of become my local. Me and my friends come here when we can't be bothered driving too far and where we know the drinks are fairly consistent and you might run into someone you know.

The jukebox has a wide range of selections. Last time I was here, I played the Pixies, U2, Nena (of 99 luftballons fame), Aretha Franklin, Bob Marley, and I forgot the rest.

Mike is the man. He is a laid back dude who always makes sure you have a drink in front of you.

The scene can get a bit dodgy here at times. Some folks I know got into a fight here and got thrown out. It's not the Cantina at Mos Eisley, but keep your wits about you...

What's better than having your favorite bar across the street?

Having it downstairs. That way there is no chance of meeting an unexpected car or bike on your trip there and you can actually arrive in slippers if you so choose. And maybe on one or two occasions I so did.

The jukebox in this place rocks and is how I first fell in love with Patsy Cline's "Walkin After Midnight," and whiskey sours. The latter has since morphed into vodka tonics -- a phase that won't seem to budge.

Though it's been a while since I've been here, I know I could walk in, hop on a bar stool and feel right at home. Just make sure to go here on a weekday night when the college crowd is busy being obnoxious in their own sorority/frat houses. Sorry youngsters. You just have a lot to learn about drinking. Luckily, I'm happy to provide instruction on this subject matter for the cost of materials. References are also available upon request.

    Cheers.

I been to a few dive bars but this didnt have a good vibe. I was there with some friends from 10 to 1:30 and a few drunks wanted to start a fight with each other. Pool table is cheap so it is impossible to play. Everybody was in their own group. Rather go to downtown dive bars.

Since I'm more of a red-velvet-rope club kind of person and less of a 'townies' dive bar type, I was sure that I would think this place was a total joke. But, for meeting a friend for a drink or 8, this was a solid location.

It was my first time hearing "don't stop believing" by journey in a bar, off the juke box, so you might say it was a very special night. Additionally, there was a dog with a tambourine around its neck. As expected, somebody picked up the tambourine and started wailing on it around midnight, when they were drunk enough to wail on a tambourine. Oh, and there was a roarin' game of Yahtzee going on in the corner!

My favorite line of the night came from a relatively young guy who explained, "I've been coming here every week for 2 years! The people are just great!" Yeah dude, that doesn't sound pathetic at all!

Ooooo oooo, and my friend accidentally looked at a guy with a confused look when he came and took a glass of beer off of our table (a glass he thought belonged to someone else), and the guy  came back to our table to ask, "Hey dude, do you have a problem with me or something?" It made my heart melt with joy because it was so cliche.

It wasn't overcrowded, it was warm, and the music wasn't so loud that I couldn't hear my friend. The drinks were good, and reasonably priced - although anything seems cheap in comparison to the drinks I get in SF. Overall it was a pretty fun night.

The Stockman is my new favorite hangout. It's in the quaint Old Fair Oaks neighborhood and has a great homey feel, somewhat like the Cheers bar. Cheap stiff drinks, friendly bartenders, a jukebox that plays Zero 7 (!!!), darts, and most importantly, $0.75 pool. What more could you ask for?

I've been in search of a place that attracts the right crowd, and I think I finally found one where I don't feel out of place (I'm 23). There are a decent amount of twenty-somethings, especially on weekends. I'd say the majority of the patrons are 25-35, though you do get older folks in there as well. It's a good mix of good people. They don't even yell at you when you smoke five feet from the door! I've been there on various days of the week, some busy and some not, but it's never been so crowded that it incites anxiety attacks. There's nothing I hate more than having to wait twenty minutes on a Saturday night trying to push through people to get a drink.

The bartenders are all very friendly. I hung out with Mike, the one that seems to be there most, after they closed one night and got to know him a bit. Cool guy. He even poured me a ridiculously stiff screwdriver that was twice the normal size because it was last call. Major points there. The bartenders also seem to have an uncanny ability to read your mind when you're thinking "gee, I should get another drink." The service is as quick and attentive as it gets.

The Stockman is all-around good times. My only complaints are that the jukebox has a limited selection (though the songs in it are hits that are unlikely to bother anybody) and the well vodka is the bottom shelf plastic bottle brand, Taaka. I personally don't mind it, as the cocktails are $5 to $7 and I'd rather drink cheap vodka than pay $10 to get Smirnoff, but that's just me.

If not for a buddy of mine living in Fair Oaks for a short time, I would not have had the pleasure of a weekend night at the Stockman.  I could tell from the dark neighborhood and shining neon sign that this was the (only) place to be.

Pretty standard as far as dive bars go, drinks were stiff and the bar tenders speedy.  The booths near the front door reminded me of an old lounge bar near my house I used to go to in college.  I remember the crowd being mostly (from what I could tell) locals and generally pretty friendly.  I remember making a few new acquaintances near the pool tables.

I couldn't tell you what I played in the jukebox, but I remember the selection being surprisingly good.  The local picks were stellar.

Needless to say, we had a great time at the Stockman and went back the next night.  Unfortunately, (for him) we saw one guy who partied too hard and passed out on one of the booths; he got written all over.  Perfect ending to the night.

An overwhelming smell of pine cleaner and stale booze greeted us as we walked in the door of this bar. We opted to bypass the 3 large glittery circular booths and sit at the bar.... and were soon joined by the two most drunk and obnoxious women I have encountered in a neighborhood bar in some time. I would have attributed this to the fact that the drinks are pretty strong, but they had just walked in.

Next to the main room there is another room where you can escape the wood paneling of the bar and play a game of pool or darts or pinball in light 2000 times brighter than the lighting in the bar.
Strangely, the bathroom door is just to the side of the dart board, so if you walk out at the wrong time you could end up with a dart in your head.

However, if you encounter those drunk women this might be exactly what you need.

Sometimes you go to a bar to meet friends, see a band,  try your luck with the fairer sex, etc.  Sometimes though, you just want to sit with a pint and your thoughts and be anonymous.  That was where my head was at when I walked into The Stockman a few weeks back.

The place was pretty busy and there was a definitely a 'regular' crowd but there were a few empty seats at the bar.  Nice dive bar feel.  Decent jukebox.  Pair of old drunks talking too loud at the far end of the bar.

The bartender that was working (a nice looking blond who's name I don't recall) was on her A game.  She was working solo and busy as hell but made the requisite small talk and was genuinely friendly.  She picked up that I was not feeling talkative and handled it perfectly.  Just kept an eagle eye on my glass and a smile on her face.  I love a bartender that has that sixth sense and swings by to ask if you're ready for another right as your brain thinks the thought.

I ended up putting some money in the jukebox and had a couple more before calling it.  Had a good 'think' and a good experience in general.  Will definitely head back at some point.

Everytime we visit my buddy Dan up in Sac we seem to end up at Stockman Club.  Usually as we're pretty liquored up by the time we arrive,  Stockman's has never let us down.  Most the people there are friendly or atleast tolerant of us.  They make fairly stiff drinks at very reasonable prices, the vodka they use is pretty harsh, but strong.

Lots of cool punk music being played on the jukebox, theres a few pool tables, darts and some video games.  Just make sure you don't get in a chalk fight :)  Great hangout, I always have fun.

Most Saturdays that I've been there on have a bunch of 20-30 y/o people in this bar, which is nice

Great dive bar in Old Fair Oaks. Lots of wood paneling. Plenty of gold vinyl seating to slide on over to your drinkin' buddy. A separate room with pool table and pinball. Which is a nice touch.  The night we went a nice busty bartendress was behind the bar. Friendly service! They also have a good beer selection. Cold Cold Newcastle in a bottle. A good place to watch the game or listen to the jukebox. Another cool neon sign out front.

I went to this small bar just last weekend and had a blast. There was easy parking and not to mention it was about six minutes from my place. There was plenty of people who seemed somewhat taken by my costumed appearance (not to mention my really fake irish accent) and stayed away for quite awhile, eventually as the night went on and the drinks flowed we seemed a little less unapproachable.

It was really easy to get drinks here and boy did we have drinks! It was super easy on the pocket book as well. Jukebox, pool table and a few chairs on in the front made it kinda fun and relaxed. I think this is my favorite bar right now, in respect to all others that I have visited.

Of course, I seem to be rating high stars for any place that will liquor me up as quickly as I would like ;)
