Stony's Palace Cafe

I'm so sorry that I just don't feel the same way about this place as others.

First let me say that the pancakes are great. However, the bacon was kind of tough and the eggs weren't scrambled at all and they ended up with a rubbery texture as well.

I wasn't impressed with the decor because it's obviously left from whoever else owned this place previously. The Stony Palace seemed to have previously been a lounge/club. So nothing is really cohesive, they just put tables and chairs in there. There are random things all over.. there is a couch in the corner but there are dividers blocking it. The employee's children are running around the place, and the service leaves a lot to be desired.  

This place is local to me, so I will go back to pick my order up if I'm hungry and don't want to go far. However, this is far from a first choice for me.

I am so rooting for this place to succeed.  The food is good, its pretty resaonable priced, and the undustrial city loft feeling and decor is AWESOME. Now for the BUT.  There is definately room for improvement in the SERVICE.  The first time that we went there, we walked in, and did not know that we were supposed to seat ourselves, and the server/bussers just walked by us. Finally someone acknowledged us and told us to seat ourselves.  The person that brought water to the table did say a word, and the server looked DEPRESSED.  I was like "WHAT A SAD PLACE".  so the other day, i decided to give the place another chance.  This time it was afraid that it was going to be the same experience.  The persoe that brought the water looked SO SAD and didnt say a word to us, and the server was just as SAD, but the food was AWESOME.  So when the server brought the chack and asked how things were, i decided to be honest and told her exactly what I thought, and she definately made an error to make a little conversation and even made a litte joke.  This is definately going to be my go to breakfast spot, but I am so hoping that it is successful.  With such a small and new spot,, If i were the manager/owner, i would definately make the rounds to the table to ask how things are and thank the customers for coming,   Just a thought.

BEST CHICKEN AND WAFFLES ON THE SOUTHSIDE OF CHICAGO!!!  The waffles were huge, fluffy and delicious!  My boyfrriend and I enjoyed the fresh strawberry waffles and the pecan caramel waffles..YUMMY!  The fried chicken was juicy and well-seasoned without being salty. The cafe decor is uniquely chic and comfortable. You may dine at the bar, at a table or settle into one of the richly upholstered bench seats lining the walls. The noise level is low - just the perfect atmosphere for business lunches, dates and friendly gatherings.  The low music and big-screen TV are a pleasant touch, but do not distract from the dining experience. The staff were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about their menu. The owner even stopped by our table to welcome us, asked if everything was OK, and made us feel right at home. Finding parking was not a problem.  They offer free off-street parking just steps away, but we found parking right in front of the cafe.

Since then, my friends and I have stopped in to enjoy breakfasts and lunches. I would have rated it 5 stars, but found the bacon to be thin, and not crispy, as I had requested.  (Sorry, but I am a bacon fanatic.)  But overall, this is a very nice cafe, with good food and great asset to the neighborhood!  Bravo!!!
