An Irish session every Sunday night, run by friendly and welcoming professional Irish fiddler Ian Barksdale, starting around 5 pm (or a bit later) is in the snug, the part of the bar that really LOOKS like an Irish pub. It's the dark wood and brass kind of pub you hope to see in a session, even has a fireplace; the flash photos on their website -- http://www.tphoolihans.c… -- don't do it justice. Second point: their food is better and cheaper than other Irish pubs in the area! Had the fish'n'chips and it was hot, fresh, flaky, delightful, needed no vinegar, and there was so much of it that my husband had to help me finish the chips. The things that man goes through for Irish music!
I was amazed that, given their wonderful ambiance and live Irish session, there were not many customers about. Â The staff were all friendly and prompt, all in all the place was a delight. NOT to be confused with the chain named "Houlihan's." Not at all the same place. Plug the address into your GPS (or cell phone) and get over here of a Sunday evening (they close at 9 pm, so you won't spoil your bedtime), down a couple of pints and enjoy the music -- you'll feel relaxed and happy, and what better way to face Monday mornings?
