Tacos El Norte

First visit to Tacos El Norte, I've heard by several people that their food was good, so  I was in Highwood today and had to check it out.
Very good! I had the 3 Steak Taco dinner with rice and beans with a Tamale on the side- 2 Tacos would have been enough after munching on the chips and salsa waiting for the meal. The salsa is perfect- not too spicy and not too bland, just right. They bring a green and red sauce to your table- green is hot and red is mild. Very good! The service was prompt and courteous. The seating area was very clean. The dinner with a diet Coke was just over $12, not bad. I will be back!

Update/upgrade:

New owner--same family.  Owners son has purchased Tacos El Norte.  He owns the restaurant by the same name in Lake Zurich.  Subtle changes are already in place...new flat scree TV's, kitchen area is cleaner and better designed, they no longer charge for chips and salsa with a meal, and the drinks are less expensive with more alcohol.  Has upgraded menu items and is rewriting the menu.  

Very impressive in a short time.

Love this place. Great gorditas! Not the best atmosphere and average to below average wait staff. (Slow and inattentive in our experience) But friendly behind the "bar" and the great food... I'll be back!
