First visit to Tacos El Norte, I've heard by several people that their food was good, so  I was in Highwood today and had to check it out.
Very good! I had the 3 Steak Taco dinner with rice and beans with a Tamale on the side- 2 Tacos would have been enough after munching on the chips and salsa waiting for the meal. The salsa is perfect- not too spicy and not too bland, just right. They bring a green and red sauce to your table- green is hot and red is mild. Very good! The service was prompt and courteous. The seating area was very clean. The dinner with a diet Coke was just over $12, not bad. I will be back!
Enjoy!
Update/upgrade:
New owner--same family. Â Owners son has purchased Tacos El Norte. Â He owns the restaurant by the same name in Lake Zurich. Â Subtle changes are already in place...new flat scree TV's, kitchen area is cleaner and better designed, they no longer charge for chips and salsa with a meal, and the drinks are less expensive with more alcohol. Â Has upgraded menu items and is rewriting the menu. Â
Very impressive in a short time.
