When we first moved to Antioch (almost four years ago now, how the time flies) I found Tailgaters on Yelp but was uninterested. The reviews were decent but sports bars are just not my thing unless there is a game on I really want to see that is not on our really basic cable subscription. Judit likes them even less. Still, when Nina, our favorite bartender at Schooners decamped for Tailgaters (what a shock) we had to try it. It was a bit hard to find as it is in a plaza and not visible from the street but is just East of Central St. on Brentwood Drive. The first shock was the array of beers. Thirty one taps. When I think sports pubs I think Bud, Coors with maybe Sierra Nevada. They have Harp and Smithwicks, two of Judit's favorites and enough that I like that if I had one each I would have had to be driven home. Nina was not there but our waitress was pleasant and took our orders. Then came the menu. Strictly pub grub. I cannot say anything bad about the food or anything good. Just what you would expect. The ambiance was what you would expect of a sports bar, TVs everywhere, a bit noisy though not intolerable.
The big shock was at the end when I asked for the tab. It was a bit like the first time shopping at Walmart or WinCo. I knew what was in the basket and was expecting a much bigger total. We had both had something to eat and a couple of drinks and when  saw a tab well south of $30 I had to review it to make sure everything we had had was on the tab. This was 9ish on a Friday so there were no special deals going. Another day we stopped in during happy hour. $3 craft brews and $2 appetizers.
Summary: Nothing spectacular but more than you would expect. If you like sports bars and good brews and pub food it could be your version of heaven. Even better if you like to play pool.
One more thing. There is only one other place in Brentwood/Antioch/Pittsburg where Judit  and can each have a beer we actually like rather than just one of us settling for something vaguely in the ballpark.
Came here with a groups of friends on monday for some unlimited wings. First time here, as I've always seen the outside but never been in. Its just like your average sports bar.
To the food now though, for 12 bucks you really cant complain about wings, they were pretty good! came out an a decent pace also, just make sure to order your next batch of wings right when you get your current order so you dont fill up waiting lol
Service was a bit slow at times, but overall had a good experience! I'll probably come back again for some wings..lol
I haven't been to Tailgaters in ...3 years and now I know why. Â Not only did it smell like stale alcohol, vomit, and really bad body odor; the floor was sticky and the staff was rude. Â I can't even imagine what the food must be like or the kitchen or the drinks. Â I couldn't stay more than 1 minute before I wanted to bolt and vomit myself from the stench of the place.
Drinks are overpriced and poorly made and all of the above. Â Can we say, John Taffer - Bar Rescue? Â Gross. Â Don't go here. Ever.
Went in for a friend's 21st birthday. She got a gift certificate for her birthday from the manager. Nice incentive to go back.
Food portions were huge. Drinks were good. Went on a Wednesday night - Ladies night: half price drinks. Place seemed pretty clean and had a good atmosphere.
I used the $20 for $30 deal here on Yelp. Was kind of disappointed it only applied to food, but it was a really good deal and I used the entire $30 on food anyway.
I would definitely consider going back.
This bar/ club was  funny one for me. It is a dive, yet it was PACKED on a Sat night (wayyyy over capacity!) It had a completely mixed crowd. There were frat guys, and non English speaking Latin crowd, there were hip hop type people and old folks too! Ive never seen a  bar have LITERALLY every type of group represented (this was kind of cool) Down side is it was too crowded, too hot, too loud, too dirty and lots of ghetto kids running around. The music was great, but it was so loud you couldn't even talk to yur buddy sitting next to you. Id give this place a 5 in some areas, but a 1 in others..giving it an even 3 stars. Would I go back? Maybe, if I was in Brentwood again.
Review Source:I went on Monday for the all you can eat wings and just in time for happy hour. Our waiter Stewart was the best!!!! Even if the place was packed n busy, he always came back to check on us and see if everything was going well. Â I have to say it was the best customer service by far!!! Â There's 18 flavors of wings to choose from... but the ones i had a chance to taste were sssoooo good!!!! Definitely, going back!!
Review Source:Happy to write a review about Tailgators Sports Bar & Grill. Their happy hour is awesome!  Well drinks and their happy hour appetizers are only $2. Can't  beat it. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love that the bartenders remember what their customers like to drink. Great place to watch sporting events and to attend themed nights. Had the pleasure of attending their A's / Giants party, St. Patrick's Day and Summer beach party.  One of my favorite nights of the week is "Monday night Wing Night". There is never a cover charge and the DJ's have always been amazing!
Deanna Otero, Brentwood California
I love this place. Jenn is the waitress I was speaking about in my prior post and she is the best! I go there when I know she is working. They have re-done their menu and added boneless buffalo wings. This made me happier than I should have been.
Great place to watch a game or hang with friends.
First off normally I enjoy going her the bartenders are always extremely nice my bf and I go there quite often so they know us by name and our normal drinks. The reason for the bad review is that 1 false advertisement. When you send out a mass text promoting your business and specials that you are having you must honor them. If not make the correction and send out a new one. We went there today because the text stated: Tailgaters NFL BUFFET BREAKFAST 9am-11:30am $9.99 ADULT $4.99 Kids $4 MIMOSA's till 11:30-ALL NFL GAMES-$2 WELLS,DOMESTIC DRAFTS $3 IMPORT/MICROS 4 A's & GIANTS
So naturally when the waitress margaret (who is super sweet) let us know that this special was only when the niners or raider make a touch down within 5 mins after is when the nfl specials are in effect. I showed her my text she spoke with the manager David, and instructed of what the text should have said (so after a touch down) we asked to speak with him and I calmly let him know that's false advertisement also that that is not the proper way to run a business, he was quick to snap and say well the owner does know how to run a business. That maybe true but false advertisement and snapping at customer is not how a manager should react. He said he would fix it to what was promised in the text, walked away and never returned instead sent the waitress back over with our bill. I work for a small business as an asst. manager and when there is an upset customer I always make sure to help the customer up until the leave not pass it along to an employee that is just poor customer service. Please re train your manager on customer service and be quick to fix an error on your part. Because of I hadn't asked to speak to the manager I still would of been charged the full price.
And this isn't the first time I've heard of employees treating the customer badly, I've heard of incidents with the bouncer from my friends, also when my bf had used the outside bathroom one of the employees came in accusing my bf of smoking weed. How is that possible when he is enlisted in the army, and the guy even looked at his junk while he was trying to zip up his pants. (creeper)
I prefer to go to small business over a chain or corporation but that may have to change so there is no gray area or false advertisement. And I will also be reporting this to the bbb.
Monday All-You-Can-Eat Wing Night!
Hot! Spicy Ranch! Wasabi Ranch! Still looking for an adventure because these aren't spicy enough? Try the Inferno if you don't mind a good cry from the tasty heat.
Catch the game(s) on one of the million tv's, even on the patio (though not the bathrooms... yet). Shoot some pool. Grab a beer.
They're installing a 28 beer tap system within the next couple weeks. Can't wait to see what they'll be pouring!
Just have to say that we've been going here consistently since I wrote my first review and Tailgater's hasn't disappointed yet. Their margaritas are super good (get a pitcher, trust me) and they've recently added some vegetarian friendly items to the menu. That means we can go even MORE now since I'm a vegetarian and was somewhat limited before in what I could order.
Thanks Tailgaters for stepping it up a notch!
A place where locals gather for some fun at affordable prices. Awesome specials and different themed nights. Plus no cover charge. I HATE bars/places that do that. -_-' We don't goto restaurants to pay to come in, why a bar? They just try to extort more money from you, but moving on to the theme nights:
- Mondays: All you can eat wings ( i believe)
- Tuesdays: Roll the dice (odd, $2 drinks any drink, even, u pay full price) and free pool (they have four pool tables!)
- Wednedays: Ladies Night (1/2 off drinks) WHOOOOO I'm a lady :)
- Thursdays: Karaoke!
not sure about the other days ( i think sundays they honor our soldiers, law enforcement, firefighters).
Oh and happy hour 4-7? $2 domestic drafts and some apps. :) Happy hour is fricking awesome for a broke college student.
Last time I was there i got three beers, and three shots (Starbursts) all for about $30, not bad in my opinion. Garlic fries are delicious, but that could've been my beer tongue talking.
If you do get to visit here, try the starbursts. So fricking delicious, and it'll give you a decent buzz after the second shot. :)
Called ahead because we were new to this area to ask just a few questions.
1. Do you have karaoke tonight? Answer: Yes Â
2. Do you accept credit cards? Answer: Yes Â
3. Is there a cover charge? Answer: No Â
So off we walked about a block up the street in the rain. Upon arrival, the door fellas were not very pleasant. But I figured they were just trying to do their job. Just as we were shaking off the rain, the bartender tells us they do not accept credit cards to run a tab, so my husband heads back out in the rain to get cash. So, I handed her a $100 bill. She asks..."Do you want me to hold this to run you a tab?" Â
(Automatic belly laugh) I said NO!!
We got to sing one song each. Two positives....The beer was ice cold and there was a ton of Raiders memobilia. My husband loved that.
The atmosphere is lively and modern but the food wasn't too great. We ordered the ribs and they were incredibly spicy and tough. We told the waitress who as nice enough to get us another order however, they were still spicy so we came to the conclusion it was a spicy marinade or seasoning. They had 3 pool tables at only $1 a game which was refreshing to see an actual game for folks to gather round. While my food wasn't great the table next to us raved about their hamburgers. In the end I would give this place another try, just not the ribs.
Review Source:A popular spot full of beer loving locals.
I wouldn't go as far as to say that this place is spectacular, but I must say it's a decent option close to home.
The atmosphere... well, it's sort of a dive sports bar. Which I don't mind. I actually kinda prefer dive bars. Definitely not a place to go if you're looking to dress up and look hot. The parking lot is rather small considering how busy it gets. The customers are, like I said, mostly locals. Some are a little rough around the edges. Some are quite aggressive... a few months ago a completely random guy walked up to me and licked my face while I sat at the bar talking with a group of friends. I guess he thought that would impress me, because afterwards he asked if he could buy me a drink. Yeah, I wasn't impressed. In fact, my guy friend (who later became my bf) was ready to go hands on with the random face licking guy. Which reminds me, as many other reviewers mentioned... be prepared to sit back and enjoy at least one really good fight on any given night.
The bar food isn't bad. Quite good actually. I think I've tried almost everything on the menu. The last time I was there, my friend and I split the potato skins and french dip sliders. Both good. Always pleasantly surprised.
Karaoke on Thursday nights. I've been a few times. Always packed.
When it's late and you're thinking of a place to go... and don't want to make the drive to Walnut Creek or SF... don't forget about Tailgaters. Always a good time. Maybe if you're lucky, some random "tailgating" patron will walk up to you and lick your face.
Atmosphere at first was energetic but then I realized the type of crowd there was inside. A lot of people trying to show off their $5 bills as if they are so "fly" and cool.
The drinks are very watered down and overpriced for their quality. I did, however, drink in Chico for many years, where $3 will get you a triple shot cocktail and pretty buzzed. I had 2 drinks and wasn't even phased by them. Almost wanted to ask for my money back.
Ordered potato skins and must admit they were quite tasty. Two stars for that. Other than that, you are looking at overpriced drinks that are of very poor quality. It'll take you six drinks (so figure $30+) just to get a buzz in this place. HORRIBLE (except for the potato skins!).
This place is my fav hang out spot in the immediate area.
No cover. Ever
Drinks are moderately priced
Bartenders and security are friendly
The place is good sized with everything from a couch, comfy chairs, bar stools, pub tables & chair sets and a patio to sit in
Pool tables, jukebox, random bar games
Bar food
The crowd is usually pretty good, every once in a while there are a few sketchy looking people. But hey, it's Brentwood, we're too close to Discovery Bay to NOT get the occasional douche wandering in from time to time.
I went with a friend during happy hour and after some discussion we ordered 2 beers and the while happy hour menu! Sliders were awesome(little taste of heaven), egg rolls were actually south west ones and had a kick to them which was really good, potato skins were good but the sour cream on top had no taste so just scooped it off, the chip are Amazing and I think they are made there but the cheese was cheap, fries were also good but not a big fan, the bbq and hot wings were very good, and to top it off we got a brownie sundae and it was probably the best one I've every had!
And I have to say the service was awesome. Our waitress was quick and friendly.
I'd say good place to watch the game and enjoy some good cheap bar food.
The happy hour offered up some decent prices but the strength of the drinks didn't impress. There are quite a few things on the happy hour appetizer menu, they're only a couple of bucks but small portions. You can't go wrong with potato skins (only 2 halves / 1 whole potato for $2!?!), but avoid the egg rolls served with sweet and sour because what we got were really bad southwest egg rolls.
The crowd was versatile, although we happened upon a slow Saturday, it's worth checking out again. A bonus was in their smoking area, good job guys - Thanks for hookin' it up with a TV!
Tailgaters is a really fun place to go watch a game, although if it's a big game it's gonna be packed! Â Love the big chairs, but at the same time they are too big when the place is packed. Â 32 people sitting in luxury and 120 standing... not so smart.
They recently hired a new cajun chef. Â He's really talented... Â Being from Lousiana his food is excellent, but it's not what I expected at a sports bar. Â Tailgaters easily had the best burgers in town, but I would say they are only above average now. Â Happy Hour Specials are really good at $2/plate for appetizers.
Overall I would totally recommend this place, great people, great service, fun customers. Â But beware if it's too busy, and don't even think of drinking too much as cops hang out waiting for drunk drivers to pull out of the parking lot almost every night.
This place is far better than I expected.
I have wanted to check this place out since they opened and just never got around to doing it.
So, my bff was visiting from S.F and I was trying to think of a decent local joint to sit over drinks and bs... that's when this place crossed my mind.
I'm really not much into sports bars though, this place is different.
It's a sports bar with kind of a classy edge... It has a very dark and secluded lounge like atmosphere thing going on, nice sultry burgundy and black color scheme throughout, hardwood floors, a really nice bar surrounded by small flat screen t.v.s above, great pool tables, dart games, and a really nice open spacious lounge area arranged with tables that are all enclosed in secluded, nice leather booths......(atmosphere wise) this is definitely my kind of place.
They had a list of specialty drinks which looked appealing. I ordered one of there Rasberry like Martinis which was extremely tasty and had a nice kick though, for 8 bucks the martini glass was just a wee bit to small and I probably would not fork out that much dough again for such a weesly sized drink.
My friend ordered the Mango margarita which she loved and I was unfortunate to try being that I am allergic to Mango.
Overall, I love the atmosphere, the drinks were tasty (just a little too pricy) the service was attentive and friendly and I would actually look forward to coming in again.
This is an old watering hole of mine. A bunch of old friends and I would come here and have a drunken good time. This time around, it was UFC 117 Silva vs Sonnen. Because I didn't want to shell out 100 bucks+ to watch it live at the Oracle, we opted to watch it here. The best part?
No cover.
Yeah. While other places like Hooters in Dublin charges 10 bucks to watch prime PPV fights, they don't charge anything. Just be sure to thank them by buying a few brewskis.
They have lots and lots to offer. Tons of TV's and projector screens, billiards, plenty of chairs, jukebox (albeit a CD one), random bar arcade games, a little lounge area outside. They also serve bar food. I've spent plenty of debaucherous nights here. Tonight wasn't one of them since I was DD. Oh wells...another time.
AAAAND....if you stay till around closing time, you just might be lucky enough to watch a live fight -- in the parking lot. Huzzah!
GREAT FOOD! Mmmmmmmmm....
I have been here a couple of times and both times have been very enjoyable.
I love the fact that I can get there in the Early evening even armed with my kid and eat while having a few drinks with friends and family(I do feel a little Sweet Home Alabama, you know"You have a baby, IN A BAR")
But oh well, the boyfriend and I will take adult time any way we can get it. LOL....
The drink prices are VERY affordable, the crowd is pretty friendly, the food is yum yum! Try either the sampler or the BBQ Tailgater burger...
I will definitely be back!
Not the best looking crowd but hey what do you expect for Brentwood? I think I'm just used to the West L.A. Brentwood crowd and so am horribly biased about what *real* people look like.
My brother and sister and I stopped by Tailgater's once on the recommendation of my brother's wife and we had quite a good night of people watching. I'm way too out of the East Bay Area scene to know this but according to my brother everybody here knows everybody else so it's not a good place to go if you're looking for trouble or are up to some clandestine business.
There's one big huge bar in the shape of a square so you have 4 sides to attempt to belly up to the bar and attract the attention of a bartender. The drinks are averagely priced though I wouldn't suggest getting a mixed drink - the ones we got in the beginning of the night tasted like mostly mixer and barely any alcohol. We got there early enough to stake out one of the tables in the corner of the dance floor which ended up being perfect for people watching and allowed us to get our giggle on at the drunkies trying to shake their groove thang on the dance floor. People of all shapes and sizes showed up that night. The most interesting scene was the old man (60 or older) posting up by one of the tables, bopping his head to the music and trying to spit some game at a girl who was probably younger than his grandchildren.
A pretty fun and low-key night out at this place. The DJ played some good hip-hop dance beats but not much in the way of genre variety. Lot of parking available as this bar is located in a strip mall type of location.
After dropping my kids off at the new RAVE theatre to see Twilight we figured we'd stick around town for dinner and drinks before picking them back up.
Enter Tailgaters. Â We were greeted by a very friendly staff with big smiles and heavy cocktailing hands -my favorite!
We started at the bar where we had a couple tasty long islands then moved over to an area occupied with tables and big comfy chairs you sink into when you sit down. Â
There are flat screen TV's everywhere and we were able to watch Pro Skateboarding, Football, Gymkana, rodeo and more with just a slight turn of the neck. Â It was awesome!
We shared a pulled pork sandwich and fries. Â The pork was so tender and flavorful - i'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce typically but the sauce on this pork has me hooked - I'm pretty sure there is crack in it. Â
You can choose to chill and visit in the area we were in or shoot pool and darts on the other side of the bar.
I enjoyed Tailgaters very much and am looking forward to going back soon.
In Brentwood, I'll go here for sports and music and hanging out.
I dig Tailgaters cause it has something for you all the time. Â If you're just there on a week night, the large tables with the really comfy chairs are a great place to eat. Â It's bar food, but I liked it. Â I've been there a few times, most notably for Sharks playoffs and live music & dancing. Â It's the only place I've danced with my lovely wife in Brentwood. Â I'm still looking to go back for some general pool and darts fun. Â It's a bar & grill, so folks bring their kids in too. Â I've done that, and they kinda liked it! Â The people I've seen there have been pretty cool, so I'll be going back.
Yes, Yes, Yes.
The Sharks are in the playoffs. Â That means I want comfy seating, big screen TV's, good drinks and a fun crowd to cheer with.
I veered away from RR and PeeWee's due to the reviews I read. Â Yelp proved to be invaluable.
The place is bigger than it looks. Â A huge rectangular bar anchors the middle.
On one side are pool tables, darts and big screens. Â sidenote: Free pool on Tuesday nights after 9:00.
The other side, which was where we resided for this particular evening - was filled with large tables and big huge comfy leather chairs. Â Big screens all around. Â The food was great, the drinks were strong.
The flyer on the table noted that Thursday nights are karaoke, Friday's are live bands and Saturday's are DJ nights. Â They must clear out the tables and create a huge dance floor = fun. Â
I'll definitely be back to experience the other aspects of Tailgaters. Â I will say that it's not the place to go if you are in a hurry. Â The service can be very slow but the upside is:
they are super friendly and the place is great - so you'll want to hang out there for awhile.
Bonus: they sent me home with a shiny new Tailgater's pint glass.
After a whole day of drinking in the Limo with 9 other lovely women, this was our last party stop of the evening. Â I inhaled the burger and fries with a light beer of some sort that I don't think I ordered but drank anyway.
The chairs are what I remember. Â Wow! Â So comfy!
We were out of there before the dance party commenced.
