Ducked in here for a quick glass after dinner at Brew Co. Â I did the Cab flight and hubby did the Chardonnay flight. Â We were the only people in here, and took advantage of the comfy sofas. Â Found some great little gems in their collection, but my goodness this place is not cheap. Â For two flights (@ $15 each) plus one tasting of a sangiovese and one glass of chardonnay, plus two bottle of wine (1 @ $14 and one @ $18) our tab was around $90.00 Â $90.00!!! Â Are you freakin kidding me? Â
I might come here in the future to buy some bottles, but I doubt I'll ever do a tasting here again. Â I'd much rather go to Rick's Wine Cellar in Corte Madera.
After just having a horrible meal at the restaurant across the way, we decided to hopefully salvage the evening by coming here and having a glass of wine. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers, the layout and furniture set up is off and does not lend for a cozy atmosphere. We sat at the bar and felt very high up from the comfy cozy couch areas. The wine selection was not bad. But the smell of cigarette smoke wafting in from the open doors was UN-BEAR-A-BLE.
It was time to write this evening off and leave.
Didn't have time to try anything...but was impressed by the concept, diversity of small-production wine and non-greedy markup and events they host.
Half wine shop, half tasting bar with noshing items. Women's wine club Wednesdays. Live music evenings. Events featuring small production wineries. Sensory classes. The usual wine schwag. Local artist features. Charming wine club program especially great for locals and people who work in the area.
Waited for the place to fill with the early evening crowd to go back in and listen to the banter. Eclectic crowd. Although it sounds like many of those that have visited need to learn that Tasting Rooms are under liquor laws. The wine industry is also different from a bar bar.
Turn off the air conditioning? Can you say wine being stored at certain level? No ambiance? Complaining about size of tasting flights? That's why they are tasting flights? Why only a 6 oz pour? Because it is not beer. So go back already and learn something.
Two friends and I dropped in here after a flick. Â Service was very good. The Verve I had was excellent and the price seemed on target. I would, and will, return whenever I just need a quiet place for a glass of good wine and a little chit-chat.
Also, check out their calendar of events. Â Wine tastings, live music.
Two things I would change: Â
1) Turn the airconditioning off or close the doors. It was freezing in there. Next time I will bring a sweater, just in case.
2) A problem that many wine bars & bars in general get wrong - High bar tables smack dab on top of low couch seating. Extremes in seating so close together counteract the warm, cozy, sit, stay-awhile ambiance that all these places should be going after. Not many get it right and end up losing $ because of placement of a few chairs.
This place is small, but in a good location. Rearrange the seating and warm it up a little and it will probably do even better.
very poor... I wouldn't go back.... corkage fee, for buying their wine and drinking it there, what a rip off... Â I guess that how they get you to buy their over priced bad glasses of wine. Â They have terrible wine by the glasses, must be the stuff that wont sell and the male owner is rude and knows' little about wine. Â Go somewhere else, you'll have better wine at cheaper prices.
Review Source:Decor seems a bit retro remodel....what's up with the sofas?
Also the use of the glassware seems specious.  I think that the people do not know wines  at least they do not know the proper way to serve wines.  It should be in reidel glasses and there are proper glasses to serve each wine in.  The cheese platter seemed strange,  odd choices and seemed like redone supermarket cheeses to me.
I guess I am spoiled by other good wine bars in SF and Marin which do a better job of wine service. Â When you order tastings, you should get a fresh glass for each pour of wine. Â This place does not seem to get it.
Ohhhh my god based on another Yelper's review I decided to give this place a try...... Don't bother... It is horrible... the service, the wine selection, and talk about nobody knowing anything about the wine, regions, or able to make an educated guess as to what I would like based on my descriptions. Â It was like they had no time for me.... Â Its just not worth the trouble when there are so many other nice establishments in Marin that are able to understand and care about their customers needs...
Review Source:Tried out this new wine bar which was pretty busy on a Friday early evening. Â The room is attractive and the service was adequate, but the amount of wine you get with their "wine flights" was so small it was ridiculous. Â We ordered the Chardonnay Flight for $15. Â First we got a tiny sip of wine that was available for $8 a glass of about 6 oz. Â Next, poured into the same glass, we received a $9 chardonnay. Â When we asked about the glass situation, we were told "that's the way we do it." Â By the time the third wine was served, I asked why the pours were so skimpy. Â The wait person said their pour was 1.5 oz for each flight glass. Â I totalled that up in my head and discovered that I was paying $15 for 6 oz of wine. Â And most of the wines in the flight were priced at less than $10 a glass! Â What a rip off. Â When I questioned the owner in an email, he gave me a lame excuse about 1.5 oz being a standard pour and that it costs them more to do flights because they have more bottles open. Â What? Â All four wines in their Chardonnay flight were available that night by the glass... so where is the added expense. Â Anyway, we'll never go back again, and I recommend you give them a pass also, until they pour a decent size sample of wine for the price.
