Having drinks at Breakers was a highlight.  Yes, we paid $40 for two old fashions (they were strong enough to be doubles) but they did validate the $20 parking fee and the atmosphere is like having drinks at a fine museum.  Staff was polite.  Could not get them to gossip about Rush or Donald, but they were sweet about me trying to get them to!  :)   I came away with the clear impression that the novel is correct.  The rich are very different from you and I.  But it was fun to see how they live!  I would definitely recommend a visit.

Wow! Just joining the riff raff at the bars. Siting in the tapestry bar now. Thanks Brandon W, $20 valet our free w $20 of hooch but I do feel like a rock star/sugar daddy billionaire. I did laugh at Attire as dressy...I'm top shelf compared in my jeans. Also this drink is stiff! my poor sauced body

Old Chicago elegance. Beautiful historical tapestry hence the name. Fantastic wine list.

As far as hotel bars go, this is one of the best around in South Florida. Excellent staff and I can say that with enough emphasis. The bar tenders make some of the most unique drinks you can think of, try the watermelon basil martini. Even the food that is served in the bar is superb. Management is always about making sure everything is running perfect too. I always recommend that people go visit this place. The decoration and history are unmatched. Happy hour is from 5-7, yes happy hour even at a luxury hotel like this one. Live acoustic music on the weekends too. So get over there!!

Excellent place for an "after" or "before" dinner cocktail. There are some amazing small plates to munch on as well (like the cheese spread). The ambience is beautiful and romantic, and the live music just tops it off. Service is top notch... You can literally spend a whole night here cozied up on a plush sofa chair and sipping fine wine while admiring the gorgeous decor.

Great spot to have a drink. Decor, comfy seating and live music. Drinks are pricey but in line with rest of the Breakers. Service is attentive and justifies the 20% gratuities.

I had always wanted to try the Afternoon Tea at the Breakers.  All I can say is how utterly disappointed I was.
I had family visiting for the holidays and thought it would be a wonderful treat. So off we went. When we had arrived I didn't see a hostess stand so we stood in the dining area and a gentleman pointed to an open table to accommodate us.
We then started looking around the room that was decorated beautifully for the holidays, listening to the lovely music and talking we realized it had been quite a few minutes before we had anyone approach us or offer a menu.
We turned around to see most of the wait staff hanging out talking by the bar area.  When we flagged someone to come over they were amazed we didn't get menus. When our waitress came by a short time later she seemed none to pleased, we had the nerve to ask for a menus or to rush her.
We went ahead and all 3 of us ordered the tea that offered both Sweet and Savory at $38 each. The Savory included small sandwiches and the Sweet of course is small cakes. Well within a few minutes the waitress dropped off One tier of small sandwiches for all 3 of us to eat. Now my brother being a big eater and good sport took one look and we all had to laugh. The sandwiches were specifically created for the tea and several were smaller than your normal Hors d'Å“uvre or almost lilliputian in size.
When our lovely waitress came by to only refill our tea cups my brother asked for a few more sandwiches. I truly thought she was going to break out into an Oliver Twist movie, She looked at us as if to say "MORE you Dare to ask for MORE!!!!"   Instead she said " I am going to have to ask the Chef since it will be an extra charge" We all looked at her like we couldn't believe the hotel had portion controlled the cost to such an extent that you were only allowed so many sandwiches person and NO MORE??  I mean really all totaled we were spending $38 x 3 which is almost $120 and we aren't allowed to ask for any additional food??
Now why didn't our lovely waitress say in the beginning when dropping off the One Tier of Sandwiches that there was 5 types of sandwiches and they have placed one of each kind per person. As any example there was 3 chicken salad sandwiches what happens if someone really liked it and had 2 that would mean 1 of us would have been out of a sandwich of that kind.
Well begrudgingly the waitress dropped off 3 additional sandwiches for my brother muttering, "what if all the other people see him getting additional food" . Well being Palm Beach I would think it would all balance out since some customers would only drink their tea anyway so not to ruin their tiny figures and others might be saying why didn't I think of that!
Well onto part 2 our waitress then placed one scone apiece on everyone's bread plate and then put down the sweet tray. Well once again, when our delightful waitress placed one scone apiece on the plate my brother said "oh I see you have 4 on your tray may I have the extra one" she looked at him and pretended not to hear.
While we were chatting about such a crappy experience we looked around the dining area only to notice 3 other tables were also experiencing what had happened to us. They all had sat down and not one person came by or gave them menus. They all had that look that all they wanted was someone to acknowledge them and that someone would be with them momentarily.
Well since we already pissed off most of the dining room by this point we flagged down the nearest waiters. When he came by to see if he could assist us we said, that we didn't need help but proceeded to point out each of that tables that were being neglected.
Unfortunately I am in the food / customer service business and since people expect it of me I expect it of others especially from a Mobile 5 star property.
When we finally received the check we noticed that a 20% gratuity had been automatically added.  Since I wasn't paying it wasn't my place to say anything. But I would have crossed it out and made it a different amount. The waitress was not happy to be waiting on us, she was not happy with the fact we had the nerve to have asked for more, she came by occasionally to refill the tea cups and that was it.
So hopefully if anyone goes just be aware about the gratuity added and go on a full stomach. I just could never recommend it there are so many better places for afternoon tea without the attitude.

Love the decor, but they could really step up with another bartender. Maybe even another bar at the opposite end. Each night that I was here, the drink service was bottlenecked by only one bartender for the entire, which was full. Since this is the main bar at The Breaker, I would appreciate a little anticipation that everyone will be here after wedding, in between wedding, and before dinner. When the drinks did arrive, they tasted delicious, so that ups my review to 3 stars.

    Tea time at the Breakers....
There is one man who works there as a manager, who is drop dead handsome and he resembles / looks like my best friend Bear and a little like John Travolta.  So, I was hooked. In a got tingles all over kind of hooked.
I immediately blushed on the way he smiled at me, complimented my shoes and told us he was so happy to see smiling beauty arrive....... ....ahhh... the main reason to just linger a little longer while saying thank you, as he handed us the menus...
My girlfriend went ga ga for the little sandwiches and the scones, but to be honest I've had better. I was raised on "The Plaza" standards, but The Breakers tries very hard to make it a nice setting.

    Gah!  This place is breathtaking.

We literally speed walked in here on our way back up to our room while holding some Torchy's Tacos and counting down the minutes to True Blood.

We were immediately greeted and I requested a wine list, letting the server know we were on our way upstairs.  The place had some hot staff I'll tell you that, really just as beautiful as the atmosphere.

A place like this calls for splurging on a $16 glass of wine even if I only take my first sip at the bar.  Gratuity is included in the tab, well that makes it easy!

5 stars for the awesome wine, hot staff, amazing old world atmosphere and being treated like a princess even though I was carrying take out and dressed in shorts and a top.

Checked out and went upstairs.  Sookeh.

I treated my mother and aunt here for afternoon tea (they like things like that in their old age) and it was great fun - it's one of those things that you do once, I guess.

We arrived in my mom's beat-up Taurus and the valet treated us as if we were arriving in a Rolls Royce Corniche - this is Palm Beach, very understated, not over the top South Beach, see the difference? We walked through the lobby, very opulent, a cross between a cathedral and a palace, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier.

We sat in the Tapestry Bar, which was nearly empty except for a table of young, rich bitch broads that are probably popular on the Bel Air-Hamptons-Aspen circuit, all looking gorgeous, dressed in clingy little nothings.  The Tapestry Bar is beautiful and elegant, making one almost feel like they are back in the days when Flagler brought the railroads to Florida and introduced the upper class of NY and New England to the sun, and provides a perfect backdrop with historic tapestries dressing the walls, monumental affairs that harken back to the days when the super rich had walls big enough to host such tapestries without appearing too massive, deep couches and chairs, the last word in luxury, being waited on by waiters that are halfway between being an archduke and an archbishop.

We opted for The Breakers Tea, with the scones, clotted cream and jam, with a flute of champagne on the side.  The high point for the ladies was when Howie Mandel sauntered by, my mom couldn't resist and said, "Hi Howie" and he bid her a good afternoon (she was careful not to touch him, she's that much of a fan).  Tea and a celebrity sighting in South Florida, what a shocker!

Oh if you are going to stay at the Breakers.. do stop in and meet the wonderful team I had tonight- Alisha, Anne, Sammy & Dustin.  Ask them about ANYTHING related to your stay and they'll astound you with the historical background of it.  Try asking in a foreign language.. they have you covered.  I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer just as things were getting fun.

p.s. Judith at the front desk rocks too.
