First, let me admit my California elitist attitude when it comes to Mexican food.  For context when I was around 10 years old, my family once met for thanksgiving dinner in a small park in Southern California.  We made tri tip, carne asada, rice , beans...you know...the staples.  Now, let me draw a comparison for those not raised on authentic Mexican food.

From my experience, authentic Mexican food is not appreciated by 90% of the Maryland, DC, Va area...see what I did there avoiding the annoying Delmarva nickname or worse the DMV nickname, but I do carry on.  Let me get to the review.

As other reviewers mentioned, if you can Habla a little espanol, you won't be intimidated, but if not, just point and order like you would do if you were somewhere no speaka tha ingles.

The restaurant was filled with Latino families.  There was the requisite gaudy shrine to a catholic saint complete with big outdoor Xmas lights.  Soccer on tv.  Working men ordered huge bowls of soup.  So yeah...this place reminds me of many like it in my hometown of Las Salas or Salinas, California.

Chorizo and egg torta.  It was right.  The filling was what I hoped to taste, but I missed out on the line of red oil that runs down my arm when I order Chorizo and egg from Rositas in Salinas.  The sandwich was good.  Next time I will order the same but as a burrito and I will successfully navigate the language barrier so I can get melty Monterey Jack or similar but not 7-11 pump cheese on it.  As it happened I did not get any cheese and that is fine.

The tacos were correct, if a little too much on the beef jerky side for carne asada.  Lots of onion and cilantro. Served with radish, wilted green onion and salsa verde.  What you would expect from the kills taco shop.

The corn tortillas are home made and tasty but and I admit this is nitpicking, the tortillas are too thick for corn tortilla, but maybe I'm just used to Jalisco and Zacatecas region and with all the Salvador and other Latin transplant families, this may be the way they do it.

The flautas were more like flour chimichangas, but nothing great.  I won't order those again.  The chile relleno was scratch made.  Kick ass hot pepper, very cheese filled.  I liked it.

Kids meal tacos and fries was way too many onions and too much spice for my 3 year old, but hey he is only three.  The fries were ok if you like really oily fries.

They didn't gyp you on the cotija cheese or veg.

So, I will be back again, but probably just for my own meal.  My southern family didn't really dig the authentic flavor.  When I asked if they thought Chipotle was better they asked if there was even a comparison.  I like Chipotle too so...happy wife, happy life but I will eat in with the Pozole next in my target.

Went there today for the first time and it was fantastic! The service was okay, but the food was delicious. I ordered a quesadilla (pollo con queso), while my girl ordered the guarache de carne. The menu has an excellent variety of dishes, all fairly inexpensive. The portions are more than enough for one person. Our food was amazing. Can't wait to go back there again to try something new.

Tacos are outstanding, and you can't beat the value. Without a doubt some of the best Tacos to be found anywhere. Helps to know a little Spanish when you order.
