My husband and I placed a phone order for 3 fish dinners and 2 sides of macaroni and cheese. When he arrived, he was warmly greeted by Tasha. She was very friendly and joked with my children. The food was prepared by Lenore and It was some of the BEST taking fish I have every consumed. The island vibe was great and I enjoyed the reggae tunes. I no longer need to search the DMV are for an authentic west indian Jamaican restaurant. This place is LEGIT! Don't look to the right, don't look to the left. All roads lead straight to JERK PIT! You will not be disappointed with the FOOD or CUSTOMER SERVICE!
Review Source:Our family stayed in College Park while visiting DC. Our hotel was across the street from The Jerk Pit and we couldn't have been more lucky to find a place this good. After long days fighting crowds in DC, The Jerk Pit was a wonderful place to wind down and settle into a relaxing Jamaican vibe.Great people, great Jamaican food, ice cold Red Stripes and a little Reggae music put a great end on the day. All of the staff we met were from around Kingston, so we felt like we were back in Jamaica all the way down to the sound of dominoes shuffled in the back room. If you have been missing Jamaica, this is a little piece of heaven. Visit The Jerk Pit, slow down a bit, enjoy some great food, meet some great people and repeat over and over.

I've been wanting to try The Jerk Pit for a while and finally got a chance recently. Â I love how it's in an old house with a gravel driveway and the atmosphere is very casual and authentic. Â I ordered the curry chicken w/ rice and peas and steamed veggies. Â My partner in crime ordered the jerk sandwich. Â They told me that they only had about half an order of curry chicken left, but they could replace it with a piece of jerk chicken if I liked. Â I said of course and was excited to try both. Â The curry chicken was pretty good, but I expected it to have a little more kick. Â There was a lot of bones and fat and not too much meat. Â The jerk chicken has a nice flavor as well, but was a little dry. Â The rice and peas (beans) and steamed veggies were average. My bf did not enjoy the jerk sandwich as the "jerk sauce" was actually just bbq sauce. Â I tired it and it did not taste like any jerk I've ever had---it tasted just like store bought bbq sauce. Â It also didn't have that much meat on it. Â All in all, its a good spot if you have a serious craving for Jamaican that needs to be satisfied immediately. Â If you have more time however, I'd recommend Sweet Mangoes on Georgia Ave in DC...or any of the Negril locations.
