Eh...this place is ok at best. Â There were a lot of guys there and they visually violated us at every step. Â The place looks clean, and we chose to stay away from the pool tables because there is a "young urban" element at play. Â More like the college age kids that didn't quite make it past the application process of getting into the university hang here. Â It was quite empty when we came in, and when it filled up a little, we noticed that we were the only women at the bar. Â It's too much out the way to go to regularly, and it isn't worth another trip for me.
Review Source:My husband suggests that I should give this bar 3 stars because the renovations they have made to the interior--basically just cleaning it up a bit--are an improvement. He also believes that out of respect for our neighborhood I should give the local watering hole at least 3 stars.
I will say this much: since the renovation, the bartenders are at least keeping track of your tab using an actual computer rather than tally marks on a notepad. Also, the bartenders and owner have always been friendly to us and all seem to drink pretty heavily on the job (I'll let you decide whether you think that's a good or bad thing).
Honestly, if left to my own devices, this would be a 2-star review with a single word explanation: SKETCHY. This bar is just not my style. But its nearby.
Sadly I am now the Duke of this hell hole. Probably because I am FORCED to come here for APA pool tournaments. 0 stars if I could. Let's see, where should I start?
Since 2005 I have been a regular here, shooting pool and having a good time with friends. The new owners as of 2011, were respectful and hospitable for the first year. In 2012, a bar in the same shopping plaza opened. I had made the switch to go over there, since they had sushi instead of the typical chicken wings and burgers. Upon going there a few times and returning to Corner Pocket, the "respectful and hospitable" owners showed major hostility. To this day, I still get witty remarks about being a "traitor" and how I'm not welcome at Corner Pocket because I frequent at their main competition. Last time I checked, this is America. I spend my money where I please.
Here are a few things wrong with this place:
Crime including drug use, robbery, the obvious and inevitable violence, lousy and hostile service, and MULTIPLE cases of the owners charging your credit card TWICE. Not to mention if you are the proprietor of an establishment, you should NOT be drinking to the point where you are throwing chairs at patrons [although you know them] or cursing up a storm. Keep in mind, this anger derives SOLELY from the fact that their regulars are now attending that bar [unnamed sushi bar] in the same plaza.
Currently looking to file a merchant complaint through the county system. Not only has the environment become unsafe, it's just unpleasant to be around nowadays.
