Tuna sub rocks the house.  Fresh bread and toppings (ask them to "run it through the garden" to get everything).  Bring cash and hide your cell phone or be prepared for dirty looks.

Place is kind of over-hyped in Central Jersey.  Quality of the bread and the meats that they use are very low.  The average deli in NYC kills this spot.

Bottom line: this sub shop is for suburban teenagers or the typical American Joe-blow football fan who's looking to stock up on some subs to watch the Jets game on Sunday with his boys.

Subs are huge and the prices are decent. However, other than that, there is no reason to step inside this establishment.

Best sub-shop in Jersey, without a doubt. If I'm in the mood for subs, then I'm going to Tastee II.

The place is grimy and the parking sucks, but the sandwiches are awesome.

If you are local you love this place. It is Delish. I love me some Sammy's.

Wish they would take CC tho, they would get a shit ton more of my business.

Hands down of the best subs I've had in the NJ area. They're definitely high quality and they don't skimp on the portions. They have a variety of different meats but I always get the Roast Beef Sandwich. The meat is served slightly rare which ends up being a lot more moist and tender than your average roast beef. You also get your choice of veggies and sauce to top it off. If you've got a big appetite you're at the right place!

The only downside is the venue itself. Not very big or ideal for anything other than to-go. There are only enough seats for maybe 10 customers, so I highly recommend getting your subs to go.

If I wrote this review 5 years ago, it would have been 5 stars.  However, it seems every time I go, they put less and less meat on their subs.  I don't want a bread sandwich.  This Fat Guy wants more meat!

Amazing subs!  Been eating Tastee's since I was able to eat!  It is a nice old style deli.  Nothing fancy and thats part of what makes it so good!
Brought my husband and brother in law who grew up/live in TX and they loved it also!  I highly recommend this place!

Great subs! If you want toasted junk subs, go elsewhere. These are HUGE quality subs. Not low caliber skinny "subs". Great place, highly recommend!

I was in the mood for a turkey club. I was disappointed due to it was like luncheon meat. I wanted carved turkey. As well as bacon wasn't an option. They also over do it on the mayo.

Definitely a better choice than a Subway...but I don't quite get what all the fuss is about. The bread is great...I'll give them that. But otherwise it's just your basic cold cuts with lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Not a whole lot of toppings offered. You can't even get pickles! I do dig the fact that they slice your meat and cheese right then and there.

    A good basic sub...nothing fancy.

Have been eating their subs for YEARS now and they are outstanding.  If you are looking for specialty sub with chicken and all that fun stuff, DONT COME HERE.  Tastee has the good old deli style subs with some of the best bread around.  Staff is extremely nice and prices are very fair. Line does get long at normal peak meal times but that is to be expected at a good sub shop.

The hole-in-the-wall kinda sub shops are sometimes the best. There's nothing really special about this place. It's just a good sub shop. And apparently only in NJ. And Obama's been to the one in Edison. Amusing prices. Go there and you'll see what I mean. The line got super long during lunch time. It's worth a shot.

I don't know what all the fuss was about.  East coast attitude and you get a sub sandwich at the end of it.  I was not impressed.  Maybe I would have had to grow up there to appreciate a family business.  But, then again....I did not much care for any of the restaurants the locals said were "musts".  I like far better food than I had all that week in Jersey.

If you are from there?  You might well just love it.  Don't take my word for it.

This a bare bones sub-shop, but it's best of breed.
Simple, cheap, & great classic subs. Remember to bring CA$H, and the place gets crowded quick, but they know how to move the long lines. There is a true system on how to order, almost "soup-nazi"-like, but that adds to the charm.

HANDS DOWN, BEST SUBS IN THE AREA.

Make your decision fast they move quickly at this joint. Remember to pay cash because there is a 5% premium to pay with ATM. The bread is basic white. Meats are okay. You'll have to request any other toppings besides lettuces, tomato, vinegar and oil. They'll give you the other condiments on the side. The full sub is about a yard long. It could feed 4 people. In truth I think Subway makes better sandwiches, which would probably get me in a fight with the locals. Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to get a sandwich from here. If your hungry for local eats then this is a good place to stop.

I'm more than a little surprised at the reviews for Tastee Sub Shop in Franklin Park.  I can only guess that the previous reviewers haven't had much to compare the subs to.

My husband and I have been to this establishment on several occasions. Each time, we thought we should give the subs another chance and each time we were more disappointed.

    Here's the deal:
    - The italian bread is low quality
    - Any good sub shop uses boars head, tastee does not.
    - Not enough meat on the sandwiches
    -  Limited selection.  (Just the basics)
    -   The italian sandwiches are TERRIBLE.  You're better off getting an Italian sanwich at Wawa.  It's that big of a disappointment
    -  The staff is unfriendly.

While I'm aware there are people who enjoy the subs, I'm pretty sure it's due to their lack of experience.  the only thing Tastee Sub Shop has going for it, is that there is little competition in the area.   If you're looking for a better sandwich, do yourself a favor and go to Joe's in the shopping center next door.  The sandwiches are  far superior.

Simply delicious.  Bring cash.  They do have an ATM though, if you don't have any on hand.  Seriously great, simple sub.  I want one now!

Just a quick add-on. I went on Saturday, June 5th for lunch, and as usual it was very good. I was somewhat disturbed because they seem to be "nickel and dime-ing" their way through price increases. Want wheat bread? $0.30 extra. Also, they seem to be skimping on the tomatoes (4 slices on a large or 2 on a 1/2 sub.) Again, the sandwich was great (tuna) but really - you can't overlap 4 tomatoes slices on a ~12" long sub?

Still blows Subway away. But bring cash.

Tastee Sub Shop I in Edison is famous in Central Jersey. Tastee Sub Shop II continues the tradition in South Brunswick.

There is nothing fancy about this place. It is cash and carry.

You have your pick from 14 different subs or you can ask for your own pile of meat. Trades and doctors alike queue up with one another for the subs here. Drinks are soda, teas, and sports drinks. Again, nothing fancy.

Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get.

My favorite: The half a #5 with all the toppings and a litre of ginger ale.

Tastee Sub- simple, cheap (me and the boyfriend can split a half a sub and a bag of chips for both of us for 7.00 tops) no fuss sandwich shop. I usually get a turkey and swiss with mayo and tomatoes; they also have this hot sauce that's new to me when we went there earlier today. The best thing is that they introduced whole wheat sub rolls. Cash only, as per other reviews. There's another Tastee Sub (I) in Edison.

If we could give half stars, I'd go for the 3.5, but it doesn't quite make 4 stars for me. The menu is simple and the ingredients aren't over the top, but what they do, they do very well. Service is fast and consistent. Price for the amount of sub you get cannot be beat. Their hot pepper spread/whatever it is, is DELICIOUS! Their potato salad is very good and a great side to a nice sub.

    CASH ONLY
