Came here late Tuesday night and to my surprise the place was happening. More than I was expecting. Service was good overall. We came for the drinks so I can't speak for the food. The atmosphere/place looks great. I like the deck but hate the smoking. I still don't understand why you have to be 15 feet from the front door but you can smoke on top of the restaurant. Doesn't make much sense. There was trivia which people appeared to be having fun playing but the people that weren't playing would have liked to have music as back ground. Made us want to leave but because it was late we stuck around and made our own noise.
Review Source:We don't live in Denver, but the Tavern is our favorite brunch spot. Bottomless mimosas, best bloody mary bar I have ever seen Hamburgers at 10:30 in the morning? What can go wrong with that?
Food was superb. Â We arrived in a group of 11 right at 10:30, so I think by 11:30 our server was a little tired of us, or she got a little busy with other tables. Â But, all in all, it was a great experience.
By the way, we have done burunch at 2-3 different Tavern locations, and I think this one had the BEST bloody mary bar of all of them.
I've visited the Tavern DTC for a couple of committee meetings; the first for a lunch meeting, the second for a happy hour convo. Â
Lunch was great - I was able to reserve a table at peak times on Open Table, request a large quiet table where we were able to spread out laptops, spreadsheets, and brochures, and actually get the project done!
The service was friendly and fast on both occasions. Â The food was tasty and they offer a wide variety of tavern-y fare. Â The fresh taste of the Skinny Pina Tini during HH made the already perfect summer afternoon just that much more fabulous.
Sat on the rooftop patio for Happy Hour...2 for 1 drinks, cheap apps. Â How can you go wrong!? Â Patio misters made the 90 degree weather tolerable sitting in the sun. Â Our server was wonderful! Â I never caught her name but I tipped her 25%, she was that good! Â She checked in often, was quick with bringing us refills and food, and was generally a nice gal. Â
Beer served in frosty mugs. Â Fried pickle chips were perfectly battered, not too much and not too little. Â Pizza was kinda soggy, but tasty. Â And let's be honest, the only reason I ate the pizza was to not be drinking on an empty stomach!
All in all, a good happy hour spot. Â They allow reservations for patio seating so when I got there at 4pm all the tables in the shade, as well as half in the sun, were marked reserved so get there early or make reservations I guess! Â I'll be back for sure.
Had a little change a plans and ended up here last minute. The Tavern is great for after work drinks for us who work in the Tech area. It's two floors, with great views and outdoor patios on both floors, and I did mention great for after work drinks because there are bars on both floors.
I was there around Happy Hour time and found they have two for one draft beer, house wine and well drinks. Great for motivated friends to share a drink with you. If I remember right, happy hour also starts at 3 PM and goes till 7 PM which is always better than 6 PM. Draft beer selection is a little small but they did have Great Divide Titan so I was a happy person.
We tried the Happy Hour Chicken Nachos and Buffalo egg rolls and they were both yummy!. The Happy Hour Nachos is small but tasteful and topped with fresh jalapeno. As for the Buffalo egg rolls, do not pass these up! They first slice the egg rolls so you can see all the goodness that is inside. The inside is buffalo chicken, blue cheese, mozzarella served with a Gorgonzola cucumber sauce. Who can say no to anything with three different cheeses, I can't!
I will be going back to this place after work again soon. Additionally, it wasn't too busy and the service was great.
It is sad to have a place that has some great features but is ruined by the service. My server was nice but I had to get up 3 times to ask for water, drinks and then food. She went to all of her other tables around us. But somehow forgot about us even when we wanted to pay. Â Now, I'm sure this will improve because hopefully she will get better.
Now that being said, I do like the deck it is something that you see when you are walking up to the Tavern and you know that is where you want to soak in Colorado's 300 plus days of sun. But I wish they would not allow smoking. The smoke comes into the restaurant and just isn't kool. Even when you are wearing white sunglasses and you have a picture of barbed wire tattooed around your arm
I will add anyone wanting something quick to eat for lunch during the work week. You are crazy. The DTC is a sea of ID badges and pleated dockers seeking the freedom tps reports.
I met a girlfriend here for dinner last night. My first reaction to The Tavern is, it is difficult to find even with an adequate navigation system. Thus, my friend was 50 minutes late because she couldn't find it and I had trouble as well. However, once inside, the Tavern has a lovely lounge area in front of a nice toasty fire place...I was content waiting in front of the fire, rather than sitting at the bar, which was full of sports addicts from what I can tell. The place was very lively on one side of the bar and very subdued on the other side where people were dining. We were so into our conversation that we continued to neglect looking at the menu so when our waitress came back a third time I quickly selected roast beef with au jus and a side salad. In a word...boring! On the up side, Thursday nights is Ladies' Night and drinks are FREE, however, I don't know about most people, but I have a job that I have to get to on Fridays so I opted out on this night. At 10:00 p.m. a portion of the room transforms into a dance floor and the DJ pumps up the volume! This place started rocking...right when I was leaving. Poop! I'm thinking it might be a better night club than a dining restaurant...I'm just saying!
Review Source:Overall, I generally greatly enjoy my time at the Tavern. Probably don't remember leaving as often as I should, but that shows a good night in my books.
We came here on Saturday night for dinner and to enjoy some nightlife afterwards. We came around 8 and nabbed a high-top table in the bar area. Perfect people watching place. We ordered dinner and I had the 'small' order of fish tacos. They tasted very fresh and overall were delicious. I wasn't so sure on the frozen vegetables being added to my rice, but I definitely was filled up by them.
Service was excellent and we had two servers and serveral bussers checking on our table to make sure we were doing well. The DJ started playing and of course it got packed, but we still had our perfect table.
By the time we left at 1:30, we had a $300 bill and were all slightly less than sober. And I literally mean that were were just passed being sober. After drinking cocktails for 6.5 hours and paying $300, you know your pouring skills are truely lacking when this happens. We weren't so stoked on this, though at least had a fun night.
Next time, we're sticking to bottled drinks to make sure we get our moneys worth. Otherwise, I wouldn't hesitate to go back as people watching is amazing and the DJs keep the whole bar hopping.
GREAT fish tacos! If you like fish tacos definitely give these a shot, you won't be disappointed!! Plus a 2 for 1 happy hour. Went here after work on Tuesday, which happened to be trivia night... despite my long standing trend of being horrible at trivia, it was nice entertainment post meal even if we didn't win, or come close...
I'll absolutely go back! I would like to try their outdoor seating area which looks ideal for a night when the weather is nice!
This place is soooo not my scene. But because I'm kickass, I had a blast here.
Apparently, a typical night here is filled with cougars and George Castanza types. On this night, it seemed to be full of young professionals.
Ladies Night Free Drink Thursday probably helped. And the company I kept.
I danced my fat ass off and didn't care about the 3 creepers who were grinding on me. I could have done without the crazy Mexi girl that got in my face for no reason. My sister dealt with her though.
Bahahaha!
This place is "okay"....I will never seek it out on my own. My friends wanted to come here to find some fun. Basically what we found was lots of obnoxiousness. Not the establishments fault of course. From the leering older man with the thick glasses to the crazy woman-hopping of the drunk 20 something guy who eventually got kicked out...the entertainment value was there if it weren't so sort of sad. Next time I will go out of my way to seek a venue with live music and some character, and dare I say "soul"?
Review Source:Denver Culinary World Trip : Stop #7 (USA)
We were looking at some places in the DTC area to eat and saw this place and it looked cool. Right when we entered and ordered some drinks, it starts to pour and thunder. Lightning was crashing down from the sky and clouds were thundering. Oh the restaurant. The food was really good and the service was really good too. Once it started getting a little cold, we asked the server if she could turn up the heat and she said that she will. 15 mins later she comes back and its colder than before. She goes back to check and tells us that the heater is not working. So we have to move tables and get near the fireplace (which was pretty cool).
P.S. The carrot cake is one of the better ones I have had.
Great Neighborhood Restaurant.
Good atmosphere. Â Friendly staff. Â Volcano Burger was awesome. Â Honey wheat marguerita calzone was mediocre. Â We normally don't like salt on our fries and forgot to order without salt -- No problem. Â The staff was very accommodating and brought out a nice hot basket of great fries. Â Save room for dessert. Â We had the very satisfying brownie skillet. Â Daniel was our waiter with a great disposition, and Jen Houseman was the manager who together gave us a great experience and memorable evening. Need to go back soon!
I was there with a group of coworkers for happy hour. The service was very lackluster and our server was either extremely busy or extremely unattentive. I have been to Tavern several times and never had an experience like I did today. I can honestly say, after my order not being correct (which was a kitchen error) and our servers service (or lack thereof) I probably won't make a conscious choice to come back to the Tavern. The only way that I would is if I was invites and there wasn't any other convenient options.
I have to be fair in my review, the manager was apologetic about the food error, comp'd the meal and gave us a free desert, that was the only thing that will make me come back, he took full accountability for his restaurants error and tried to do whatever he could to make the experience better. Unfortunately, the damage was already done.
Hopefully this feedback helps.
I like this place for drinks and dancing. I have never been here to eat unless you call Amaretto a food group. Yes this place is full of douchbaggery but if you are single in the suburbs where else can you go to meet new peoples. I really can' t think of any. Â I heard that they have good salads but salads don't really go with beer so nope not for me.
One good point is that they have a really large bar downstairs and a long one upstairs. It is nice to go here when summer rolls around. The upstairs inside is kind of small however.
I have heard complaints about the dress code but I like it because it makes it a bit classier and not so fighty.
They also have plenty of tv and all the sports you could dream of on them.
I've only been here on a Thursday night (ladies night) and Friday night so I can't speak for any other time of day or days of the week!
Ladies night...well, you can't beat free drinks for ladies after 9pm. Â If you can get there a little early (say 7 or 8) you can usually snag a booth at some point and that makes the entire night a lot more pleasurable!! Â I love to dance and they play really great dance music. Â I don't like dancing on the dance floor as much because it seems like the men just line up in a row and stand there and stare at you dancing with your girlfriends. Â And if they aren't doing that, they come and start to try to dance with you when you are clearly not interested. Â SO...I usually just like to hang by my table and dance near my table instead :).
It appears to be a slightly older crowd than the downtown location which is fine with me since I'm "older" :-). Â
Only food I've ever had here were the Quesadillas and they were good, I'd order them again.
All in all, I'll keep going back for a fun dance/hang with girlfriends night but that's about it.
Do you remember when Superman was killed in the comics and his superpowers were distributed to Shaq and three other guys? Well, the bar I used to visit in STL once known as Kearbey's was the best place ever for three reasons: a) consistently awesome service, b) cheap ass drinks, and c) hot hot hot sexy lady clientele. While "b" traveled to Denver and landed at Stadium Inn, "c" landed at Tavern Tech Center.
Having just moved here, I thought my friend was full of it when he said that a bar in a place called the Denver Technology Center was a better option for meeting women than Downtown Denver. He kept trying to convince me, and one night I was bored and decided to go.
At night, this place is awesome. It is packed with attractive young to middle aged professionals who are ready to party. There is a small dance floor, which in my opinion are the best kind. At hot bars small dance floors get packed easily, and a packed dance floor allows drunken girls to get as crazy as possible without broadcasting their activities to the whole bar. The service is good for place this crazy, and all this with free parking in an empty shopping center.
Drink prices are on par with about anywhere else in town (except Stadium Inn), and I hear great things about the food as well.
I will definitely be back.
I went to this Tavern on Saturday night to meet a friend for a snack and drinks. Â I prefer the Littleton location, but DTC was a more central place for us to meet, and it has free parking.
This location comes off as more pretentious and scene-y than Littleton, but has the same great food and drinks. Â I went with a raspberry ale, but my friend tried a fancy vodka drink that was delicious and almost-drunk-in-one-drink strong. Â We also got an order of artichoke dip, and it was great; the chips that come with are pretty standard, but the pita wedges were delicious. Â Service was friendly, and even though I only made my OpenTable reservation a half hour in advance, they were able to save us a table.
I wouldn't go out of my way to go to this Tavern location, but if I was around DTC more I could become a regular.
I am reviewing this strictly from lunch/early dinner. Â I have not been here after 8ish.
what do you get when you get a slightly pretentious neighborhood bar and avg food and expensive drinks? Â Methinks its The Tavern.
I mainly have gone to the Tavern because its is convenient because we can walk there.
This is a nicer restaurant that you can take colleagues to, but not too fancy in this plaza. Â The rest are fast foodish kinds of places. Â
Everything in this place is just average. Â Food, service, atmosphere. Â The mac and cheese was pretty good this last time, but everything else has been pretty standard insitutional food. Â Nothing memorable.
I will continue to go here because its convenient to our office, but at least I have my expectations calibrated.
Maybe I will have to visit in the evenings, cougartown in the tech center sounds intriguing! Â j/k. Â Wouldnt be caught within a mile of that place after 8pm. Â much rather go to Baker Street.
What do you get when you cross techno music with cougars? (I don't actually have a punchline... I figured the question was funny enough.)
We came in on a Friday night around 11:30pm. Hubby and I were with a group of people (and we weren't driving), so we were basically forced to walk in. As we're walking around, looking for other people we were supposed to meet up with, Husband yells into my ear, (if you've seen "How I Met Your Mother", it's like the scene where he yells, "I got thrown out of Sea World for humping a dolphin!" http://www.youtube.com/w…) "This is my own personal hell!" We stayed for 15 minutes... thankfully we were at the wrong place. Whoo-freaking-hoo!
I have no idea how this place was super packed. If you like decent music and not feeling like a sheep, I highly recommend avoiding this place (on a Friday night, anyhow). If you're a cougar, lookin' for some lovin', by all means walk--nay, RUN to The Tavern!
On the weekend evenings, this place gets too busy to be enjoyable. Â They pack you in like a can of sardines. Â This is mainly a hangout for people in their mid-twenties to early thirties with a few old, creepy guys sprinkled throughout. Â The old guys are grandpas hoping to hook up with a chick in their twenties. Â They look like they would drop dead just from climbing a flight of stairs let alone actually hook up with someone not in a walker. Â It's sad and gross. Â
My suggestion if you have to go here is to get drunk prior to entering the premises. Â Not only will their drinks rape your wallet, but you'll be damn lucky if you can squeeze over to the bar and only have to wait 10min for a drink. Â Then get ready to pray to the gods that some dumb ass doesn't bump into you and spill your drink all over yourself and the floor.
The only redeeming quality of this place is the patio...if you can get through the masses to get to it. Â And you will want to get to the patio for some fresh air. Â You see, on the weekends, the Tavern becomes a dance club. Â People drinking + dancing or some form thereof = nasty ass farts and crop dusting! Â Yep, you'll be basking in people skunk juice all night long or until you can escape.
Very nice atmosphere, two-for-ones on wine and popular beers, and a menu with some interesting choices make this a good option for happy hour in the DTC area.
The crowd during the weeknights seems to skew towards older and more affluent.
The bar is in an L-shape and the lighting is favorable for meat-market type maneuvers. Not that I would do such a thing. But if I did it would be here.. There actually are a variety of seating areas, so once you corner your prey . . . er I mean meet someone interesting . . . . you can recline on a couch with him/her and describe how it puts the lotion on the skin or it gets the hose again. Or talk about Bullwinkle. Whatever.
The wifi works well for workaholic introverts like myself.
Overall a nice destination. I'll be back.
When did Valentine's Day turn into Trailer Park Love Day? My wife and I decided to keep it low key for Valentines dining, figuring the casual dining chains would be a good bet for small crowds since folks would be heading to more upscale venues. We were very wrong. Turns out the casual dining value chains are where the multitudes head for these occasions. With that said our plan was in need of emergency reservations at a place where our after work sweat pants and 5 year old in tow, would fit in. Who knew that place would be the Tavern.
A quick look see on Open Table yielded a quick reservation and a 10 minute drive south had us at our destination. We received a warm welcome form the hostess, seated promptly and given great service throughout.
The food was just ok though. My salad was on the watery side and my wife's Chipotle Chicken pasta tasted plane despite the cheese sauce and seasonings. My meatloaf on the other hand was delicious and my daughter was pleased with her hot dog and fries.
We had the fortune of sitting next to a Valentines first date, that provided a soundtrack of awkwardness, laughter, and embarrassing revelations. Slightly entertaining I'd say.
Either way I enjoyed the place and I can see myself stopping in again if I'm in the area.
Deep within the high rise buildings of the Denver Tech Center, lies a little bar I like to call the Tavern.
Within this little bar is cutest outdoor patio, very friendly staff, one of the BEST happy hour specials and just the right amount of crowded :)
After being to both Uptown and Downtown Taverns, I figured i could branch out and try the DTC. Met my friend for a happy hour beverage after a hard day at work and was surprised to see the following things:
1. Friendly staff. despite the other reviews, my experience with the staff was awesome. we were greeted by a nice young girl and our waiter was very nice in taking our drink orders and keeping our drinks filled. Even when we moved up to the balcony, right away, our waitress came over :)
2. One of the BEST happy hours around. From 2pm-7pm, 2 for 1's drafts and mixed drinks are on special and from 7pm-10pm the Twilight happy hour begins with $4 vodka specials :) I was happy to see that my double Bacardi/Diet coke with lime was a whopping $5 :)
3. Great location. Outside, we had a great view of the mountains and just happened to catch the sun set :) perfect way to end a day!
4.The atmosphere. Very chic and nice. Felt very business-ish but with an urban twist.
overall, i'll DEF be returning with my girls :)
It is an ok place to go and drink, dance if you are an old fart like us, meaning in the early 30ies up. But, FYI, I am only 27 of course.
ANyways, business man can find their *ladyfriends* there to take to their hotel and cougars find their tadpoles. If you are looking for a quality guy that is not a poser and does not wax his eyebrows, this may not be the best place to go :)
BUt the drinks are nice and strong and their little fireplaces are cute. The food is awesome but WAY overpriced for what you get. I cook for cheaper and it tastes the same.
Short; if you are looking for BF material, not the place. If you are looking for a waxed and lotioned guy that tries to be a man to hook up, good place.
Go to Lulu's in Watkins for the real man experience!
I went here for a large work-related happy hour recently and it wasn't AS BAD as I thought it would be.
It's really not very good either. Â I can get a better deal and better food at Baker Street as far as DTC happy houring goes. Â I misunderstood the buy one get one deal at Tavern and ended up getting a Stella for $5.75 (I thought all drafts were on special, but it's just domestics). Â Strike out one. Â Oh well. Â We had a nice place to sit on the roof, but out of the sun so it was fine. Â Next I got a well margarita which was not only gross, but not on special since the bartender decided to make it a double. Â And that's fine too, I certainly didn't want two.
I went for dinner a while back (shortly after it opened) and the food was incredibly mediocre for the price. Â My friend got a cheesesteak and they charge $1 extra each for pepper and onions on an already over-priced sandwich
The parking was not as bad as I was anticipating, especially for a Friday afternoon. Â The lot is usually congested during lunchtime, but the other business dies down after 2 or 3. Â They were playing especially obnoxious music very loudly, but I wouldn't expect it any other way at a Tavern.
Very meh, but it could be worse.
When this place opened I really wanted to like it. I've been there a few times, but man, it just sucks.
They only serve beer in those small 10oz glasses. Maybe 12. At any rate it's not a pint, but they still change 3 bucks for it. The seating is terrible. When we went there for final four and we're the first ones in, there is not actually ANY good seats to watch games. Why all the tv's if you're not going to be able to accommodate watching?
Like everyone else says, the main problems are the db's and the cost.
They do have a bloody mary bar on the weekends, which isn't bad.
Unfortunately, it takes more than a good bloody to make you go back.
Save your money, and enjoy a beer at the Illegal Petes across the parking lot.
Lunched here. It's really nothing special. I did like the fries, but everything else was pretty meh.
Service was really slow (lunch took over an hour) and I think there were only 4 groups of people in the whole restaurant so I was confused...guess that's how long it takes to defrost and then heavily salt their food before serving.
Overall, is on par with TGI Friday's, but not as good. Bar looked nice though, they might have a good happy hour.
I'll give them one more star than Shannon below because our food came out quickly from the kitchen at least.
This place is mediocre. It feels like every other chain restaurant I've ever been to. I went there for lunch at 12:30 on a weekday and waited at least 5 min at the door without even being talked to. Normally this isn't a big deal, but those minutes count when you are on your lunch break! Where's the hostess? Before we were even able to get our drinks a food runner dropped off an appetizer someone else ordered. Good thing they didn't try to charge us I tell ya...
Oddly enough I found that for being a "hip" Tech Center restaurant they were having a seemingly slow lunch rush...maybe everyone else already knew what I came to find out.
Blah service & blah bar food. Next time I'll be going to one of the yummier, quicker and cheaper places in that same plaza.
Never again.
Friday night at about 8:00 - we were a group of five - out on the upstairs patio - and when our little snotty-nosed waiter came to get our drink order he couldn't have been more of a douchebag.
My girlfriend said that he "waited" on them the last time they were at The Tavern and he behaved the same way. Â For all I know, every other person that works there could be sweet as pie - but this guy set the tone for our evening - hence the crappy review.
When the drinks came, they were in flimsy plastic cups not much bigger than a dixie cup and there was no alcohol in them at all.
The Tavern Tech center is a bar in - well - the Tech Center. Â Not a cool place - certainly not cool like LoDo, Wash Park, The Highlands or other interesting places in the Metro area. Â Not sure who they think they are or who they're trying to be - but I'm not going back to find out.
A waste of gas, a waste of money and a waste of time.
Located just south of Belleview on DTC Boulevard, The Tavern Tech Center is the latest itereation from the Tavern group. Â There's no question The Tavern has been a welcome addition to the DTC landscape, especially for those looking for an alternative to Cool River Cafe and that other tavern (Great Northern Tavern, to be precise).
Among the highlights are the Kobe Beef Sliders (3 for $11, so not too bad for a decent appetizer ... or a full meal depending on your preference), and the rooftop patio, which serves as an ideal lunchtime or happy hour location. Â It doesn't rise as high or afford the same views as Lodo's does over at its Highlands Ranch location, but it's still a great location to have some food and drinks.
In terms of numeric ratings, I'd give the menu a 7.5 out of 10, the drink selection about the same, atmosphere and food quality an 8. Â Definitely worth checking out.
