Good Mexican food at a really good price. This place isn't fancy or upscale at all but the food is very tasty. Â If Kentuckiana wants to know what real Mexican food tastes like, come here and forget about the craptastic 'authentic Mexican' restaurants that populate this part of the U.S.
Review Source:Authentic food. Â Excellent. Â We just wish we had known it was just around the corner from our house, sooner. Â The place is hidden, we have driven by several times a day and never seen it. Â My husband just brought home dinner from this place and I could eat it everyday, authentic, simple, real and delicious.
Review Source:So, we're traveling down I-64 headed to the Louisville Airport when we decide to let our GPS guide us to a local restaurant. Â i press the buttons and up comes Tenda El'probedor. Â ok ... sounds Spanish ... we decide to stop.
Our GPS guides us to a little complex off of the main highway, we can't really see the restaurant! We explore a bit deeper and find it located on the side of the building.  It's really just a small hole in the  wall restaurant, apparently catering to the local Hispanic community.  Fine, we say, let's go in.
It's a mixed mini-restaurant and Mexican grocery store. Â They have a small counter up front, in the back (behind food shelves) are picnic tables covered with table cloths - the three tables are full of customers. Â It looks as though they do as much carry out as they do inside dining. Â The menu is on a white board above the counter - largely is Spanish - mostly tacos, soups, burritos.
And they are very nice! Â When we were arrived, two women were running the counter with their children. Â They explained all of the items - it's all authentic Mexican. Â Don't be afraid to ask questions ~BECAUSE~ the food is great! Â We order chicken burritos and (soft) steak tacos. Â The food was fresh, warmed, and delicious. Â Soft drinks are pulled from s stand-up cooler (my wife had a Peach soda - I had bottled water). Â Fresh cilantro - 2 kinds of salsa (green and red). Â Honestly ... what's not to like.
If you're used to the standard American version of the Mexican restaurant ... you usually get an entree with a side of beans and rice. Â You also expect a basket of chips. Â This is ~NOT~ what Tenda El,probedor is about. Â They are an authentic Mexican restaurant. Â The food is freshly made - and deliver by the family (a young boy appeared at the table with a bottle opener to open Julie's soda). Â While (maybe) not for everybody ... I love these little places. Â They are a departure from manufactured pre-made food .. they're a joy to those of us lucky enough to appreciate them.
They are now on my list .... my next trip to Southern Indiana will definitely assure a visit to Tenda El'Probedor!
