Me and my boyfriend came here for New Years Eve. We ordered the cheese plate, mussels, he got the filet, and I got the salmon. We also ordered 2 martinis. The food and drinks were GREAT. I gave them 3 stars because:
1. The service, although friendly, was slow. Â
2. It smells like moth balls inside.
3. Another customer pushed me while I was sitting in my chair to be able to get to his chair ( hahah that was great)
4.The manager went up to every single table to ask about the food and service, but totally ignored us.... hahah... I didn't want to talk to the guy anyways, but still, it was a funny observation of the snobby manager. Cheers dude and don't ignore people under 55 years old! :)
This is an interesting little place in Poway. If you want to have a quiet, fine-dining experience in Poway, this is one of the few places I would stop at.
First, the food I have tried:
- The Calamari
- The Salmon
- The Mango Chicken
The Salmon was so-so. I wasn't exactly into the cucumber based sauce. But it wasn't appalling. The Calamari, now that was enjoyable. They cooked it pretty well. And I loved the fried peppers that came with it! Huge bonus. But the absolute winner was the Mango Chicken. It is probably the best entree option, in my mind. Even the second time around, was still super enjoyable.
That leads me to my only concern about this place. Beyond the Mango Chicken, I'm not sure if anything else really excites me on the menu.
So then, why the four stars? Because the Mango Chicken is good! AAAnnnddd also, the service is pretty good when we go. They are friendly, but also personable. Not just serving us because it's a job, but treating us in some ways like family. The kind of service you want at your local neighborhood restaurant. Part of the reason why I like going back.
I went here for the first time about 2 weeks ago. It is a charming little restaurant in Poway, formerly called The House on the Hill. Our server told us it's been under new ownership for the past year. Although I never went to it before, I have to say I was very impressed with it now. I never know what drink to order so I was happy that they have a great drink menu! Â I ordered a drink called the Pom Bom Deluxe, and it was delicious! Â And my husband was very impressed with his martini size and that they gave him a glass of extra olives! We ordered the Ahi Poke and the Mushroom appetizers- loved them! Â And for dinner, my husband I both ordered a bacon wrapped filet which was so tender and cooked to perfection. I checked in here on yelp and that opened an offer for a free dessert so we had these donut-like puff pastries with chocolate and banana dipping sauces- and they were amazing! We will definitely be back!
Review Source:My friends and I went here last Saturday, and were extremely disappointed. The service was horrible (We had o ask 3 times for our water, never got our bread, and we could SMELL alcohol on our very rude waitress!)
When we finally received our food, it ranged between too salty and bland. It seemed as if the Chef didn't ever taste the food. Not only that, but we could hear the Chef cursing and yelling at the staff during our entire experience here. Very disorganized atmosphere. Truly a disappointment, we will never be back, or recommend this place.
Don't let the location tucked behind the Ramada fool you. Â The Terrace Restaurant & Bar is really cute! Â The food is great and the staff is all really nice. Â I wasn't sure which wine I wanted to order so they picked a few and let me try them before I settled on an excellent one they recommended. Â The menu is very extensive and they offer a great variety of fresh food for a really good price. Â I am gluten-free and usually don't have many options at many places, but I could eat almost everything on their menu. Â They also had all day happy hour with half price appetizers. Â I would definitely recommend this place!
Review Source:We went to The Terrace for "Tapas Tuesday" on a Yelp recommendation. We were very happy we made that choice!! My colleague and I split 6 different small plates. Our favorites were the Brie Pita, the Portabello Sliders and the Truffle Fries. Since we are in Poway for 2 weeks, we are highly likely to return. GREAT PLACE!!
Review Source:The Terrace Restaurant in Poway is a very pleasant surprise for me, and let me first say that I will be back for sure, great food. I went in a little before closing, normally not a good idea, but was treated like I had walked In at 7pm. I sit down on the patio and wonder... Who put in the bamboo? I ordered the Poway calimari and the Sonoma Delight salad made with a lavender vinaigrette awesome like silk on my tonque! Then for my entree I had the the Pan Seared Filet, now usually I do not order steak with any sauces on it. My waiter told me this is the chefs signature dish so figured what the heck. This was a very good cut, quality meat cooked just as I asked, and the sauce was  a fantastic reduction of balsam and sherry that was a tastey addition that actually amazed me. I finished with the creme brûlée cheesecake WOW that was a meal!  As a first experience I had friendly and informative service that made my time there that much  better. So I will be back. If your looking for a great date place this is worth every penny, or maybe trying something new you can't lose at the Terrace.
Review Source:I recently attended a Yelp Elite party at the Terrace Restaurant and while I haven't experienced a full meal here, I can say that I was impressed with the samples and the environment. I'm not sure that I could have found this restaurant if it wasn't for Yelp. It's almost hidden in Poway on a hillside just off the main road. The somewhat secluded vibe was truly part of its charm, however. There was a nice view and the patio is perfect for summer evenings.
Review Source:The place is small and there is very limited parking, but the environment is a great place to take a date. There are fountains outside and the inside has this cottage type feel.
Favorite thing of the night was the calamari, and surprisingly my favorite part of that dish was the fried peppers. They had just the right amount of spice while still having a light crunchy breading. Also had the portabella mushroom burger sliders which was real juicy and the bread was done just right (warm and slightly crunchy on the outside).
Came here for a yelp event and enjoyed myself entirely!
Best thing I had: The DONUTS with the BANANA DIP and the CALAMARI. I'm still craving it. They also had a great selection of wine which is always a plus in my book.
The setting is open with a beautiful patio and rustic spanish decor. I've been on this spanish tapas trip lately and loved the outlay of this location.
It's a little hard to find so when you're on Poway Road look out for a yellow sign that says Terrace Restaurant and Bar and go up the pavement. It's right in front or behind the Ramada ( depending which way you're coming from). Can't comment on a full dinner or any dining experience here yet but it's definitely in the books if I'm in this area!
I will give 4 stars for now since I haven't had a true meal here as of yet...but my first experience has left me wanting to come back.
I went for an event and the owners had closed the place for us Yelpers for the night... THANKS... and were great hosts throughout the night...letting people in early...and also letting people stay well past the stated 9PM party end. Â
I didn't get to nibble on much of the food...but what I did have was good..calamari, nacho concoction, sliders, donuts...YUM. Â As for drinks they offered a selections of wine and a red sangria at two bars.
Other than the friendliness of the owners and staff was the awesome patio they have. Â What a cool place to go for a HH or dinner and enjoy the SD weather with some views.
Wasn't overly impressed with this place. We sat outside but they had no umbrellas to block the bright sun. Our waitress was nice very friendly. The food was, to me, a bit over priced and extremely blah. My husband ordered the lamb medium well, but it was bloody, my Salmon was good but tasteless & my daughter's Mango Chicken was more BBQed then Mango! I will say they comp'd the lamb & 2 beers, but the bill was still extremely high for what we had. I do want to give this place another try because the reviews seem good. Maybe it was just an off night for them.
Review Source:Maybe I've been watching too much Gordon Ramsay tv, but I just wasn't impressed with this place, despite looking forward to trying it out for some time. It's a nice ambient setting and the service is warm and friendly, but the food definitely leaves something to be desired. I got the seafood pasta, which I think is one of their "signature" dishes, and it was *very* bland - I had to douse it in pepper, and the shrimps tasted either not very fresh or just dirty. I'm glad I didn't get sick from it later in the night. Boy ordered the risotto which was also very bland and overly buttery - to the point where it was too much to realistically finish. They did us a solid by letting us use the yelp checkin in combination with a voucher we purchased online, but for the price point vs the food quality, I don't think I'll be coming back.
Review Source:Not bad for a new restaurant. Â Had dinner a few months ago. Â We will try again to if they have worked out the kinks. Â The grilled marinated artichokes were very good. Â The salad with apples and parmesan the dressing needed seasoning. Â Their flat iron steak medium rare you can cut with a fork. Â The Seafood Pasta needs work. Â Low seasoning not much broth and the equal distribution of variety of fish wasn't happening.
The main concern was the service. Â Our server was young and inexperienced. Â Had to ask for things several times...butter, steak knife, and drinks. Â He was sweet though.
Dissapointed they ran out of Key Lime Pie. Â It was only 7:00 p.m.
We will go back....the Chef has talent.
The Terrace is an awesome restaurant! The food, drinks, service, price, and atmosphere are all great. The owner Kunal was lovely and very accommodating, a really cool guy! I love the outdoor atmosphere, it's the perfect place for (more than a) few drinks. All in all, I love this place. Don't forget to try the chocolate pecan pie.
Review Source:We had a lovely lunch one Wednesday afternoon at the Terrace. The setting is comfortable and pretty, with nice relaxing music and a sunny outdoor patio if you're in the mood to sit outside. We sat at a table, but there were also numerous couches that would be a perfect place to sit for a few drinks.
Our server and the manager were very welcoming and the service was excellent. We had the grilled artichoke appetizer, which was the best preparation of artichokes we've ever had. The Sonoma Delight salad was also good, with a light refreshing lavender vinaigrette dressing and tasty asiago cheese on top. The vegetarian sandwich with goat cheese was fantastic, and it came with a side of very well-executed crunchy french fries.
For dessert, we finished with the Key Lime pie. We don't have any complaints about our experience here and we would highly recommend it if you're looking for a chill place to eat an upscale lunch or dinner in the San Diego area.
Love this place! Â If you are looking for a good neighborhood place to go where you can tell them what kind of wine you like and what food you want to go with it....this is the place for you
Nothing is out of bounds - they want to take care of their patrons and substitution is encouraged....tell them what you like and they will accommodate
We had the mango BBQ chicken, seared filet and omg the ny strip is to die for, Â Definitely, a gem in poway.
The owners are so nice and GM, Michael is awesome....live music is such a plus!
This is exactly what you get when you read the reviews. Â Nice ambiance, nice patio, nice bartenders who are experienced. Â Do check the wind and weather before deciding to come here - it will make or break your visit. 3stars says A-OK, which means "just fine" Â Â nothing more, nothing less....
Review Source:We went here for brunch it was pretty quiet inside... I think we were only one of two or three tables there. Their brunch menu sounds good, looks good, but on presentation, taste, and execution it was lacking. The omelet with a slice of american cheese just laying on top was pretty ugly and tacky. The pancakes were near burned on the bottom, and the home fries (hash browns) were undercooked in areas. Also, the side of scrambled eggs were very wet. Upon inspection, it seemed like they microwaved the eggs and bacon. The food tasted OK, but it wasn't worth the menu price. The only great thing about this place was the service--two stars for the service, and one star for the food.
Review Source:Tried this place for the first time tonight. Â The ambiance was nice and the patio looked very comfortable (but it was too cold for us to sit out there tonight.) Â The bartender and host seemed nice and like they knew what they were doing.
We were disappointed to find out that we couldn't order from the happy hour food menu once we moved from the bar to the dining room (drinks, yes, appetizers, no). Â So we ordered dinner from the dinner menu. Â I ordered the ahi tuna - it was bland, the portion small and it was overpriced. Â One of my friends ordered the calamari appetizer and found it rubbery. Â Another friend ordered the chef's special - a chicken dish with cream cheese and carmelized onions - she liked it a lot.
The waitress read us the specials from her notebook and didn't seem to be very familiar with the dishes nor the ingredients. Â She also indicated the last drinks we bought at 6:59 would be on happy hour but when we got the bill we realized they were not. Â The few bucks difference wasn't a big deal - it was the fact that the waitress seemed to indicate the drinks would be on happy hour but didn't notice nor care nor tell us that they were not, as it turned out, on happy hour.
I am all for giving a place a second chance and so would be willing to go back sometime. Â But overall I found this place to have bland food, small portions and be overpriced.
This place is amazing. The food was fabulous. It is as fresh as can be and you can actually taste the flavors of the food. I am so happy we found this place, we will be returning. The calamari was the best I've had, and the seafood pasta was so flavorful. Caesar salads were fresh and the dessert topped it off. Throughly impressed. I will definitely be referring family and friends to dine here.
Review Source:Great people. The staff there was so friendly and personable. I give it a three star because for the price $60 food bill no alcohol it was good but the value didn't match the price. Â
Their desert was great!! Â I would go back for just their desert. Â (I don't know the price because I got it for free) Â It was SO GOOD!
Tucked away on a hill in the middle of Poway is a surefire way for a place to fail. Â It's too bad as the atmosphere is nice, staff is really attentive and the food was darn yummy. Â Our party enjoyed our meal and agreed we'd probably go back. Â it's pretty good but not exactly at the level of say Parkhouse, Adams Avenue or Kensington Grill.
Sadly, I can't see this poor place lasting long as they get no passerby and Poway/Scripps Ranch is not exactly a very adventurous part of town.  Can't see a non-chain restaurant  lasting up in that homogeneous cultural wasteland.
Interesting spot in Poway. We never had been here when it was House On A Hill. We had dinner inside, and it is smaller than expected. The terrace patio area is the best part of this place, it would be a great place to sit when warmer weather or for lunch.
The food was good, but nothing that really captured my attention. I thought the cheese plate was very small and extremely overpriced. The happy hour menu had mini sliders that were reasonable. The wine, expensive but a variety of choices to pick from.
The chef came out to table touch, and that was a nice gesture, and the waiter was great and accommodating.
I look forward to trying lunch here.
My friend recommended this place, so we went here for lunch. I like how it looks like a secret restaurant...We sat outside- it was nice and cozy. Our waiter turned on the heat lamps since it was a bit chilly. I was bummed when they ran out of chicken. Seriously?? LOL. I was recommended the steak salad instead and it was aiight. The mussels were pretty good and the dessert was the best part! It came in a martini glass, how cute is that?? Our waiter was very nice and attentive- you can tell he is new, but he was still a good waiter. :) Overall, it's an ok place to go, but the prices are a bit high i think and sooo far- especially since it's in Poway- it takes another 10 minutes to get here once you get off the freeway.
Review Source:My husband and I have been to The Terrace for lunch and dinner and it is so much better than House on the Hill! Â The menu says to ask if you don't see what you want on the menu so I put that to the test. Â The chef made an delicious custom salad for me with grilled salmon and the waitress brought out three salad dressings for me to try. Â All 3 were some of the best I've ever had. Â The shrimp and polenta and mango bbq chicken are amazing! Â I love that Poway now has a unique sophisticated restaurant. Â I love the wine list and the service has been A+ each time we've been there (thank you Andrew). We will definitely go back!
Review Source:Decided to pay a visit to The Terrace. We occasionally frequented the House On The Hill, but started getting tired of the crappy service and overcooked or undercooked food. I'm all about second chances...and often 3rd and 4th chances, so I called to make my reservation only to disover the House on the Hill had changed hands...and for the Best!
I started off with the Panora Salad...large portion of salad and worth every bite.
I also decided to try some Aussie Vino and noticed they had a better choice then its predecessor. My main course was the mango chicken, which put's Jimmy's Brick BBQ and Kaminkskis BBQ (both in poway) to shame. The chicken was so moist, the mango sauce was sweet and tangy. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth and had just enough garlic for an Italian garlic lover like myself. The veggies were very tasty.
Our waiter was Andrew. He was very low key, friendly and professional.
He forgot to mention the specials, but I forgive him......................OH before I forget, YOU MUST TRY the Ahi tuna over the wontons. OMG! I could have eaten, that as a main entre!! Sooo tasty. Lots of flavour....and texture.
The only downside to the new restaurant was there was a random power outage, not sure if that's common, and we were seated in a secluded side of the 'house' where it should have had a quaint, romantic feel, but failed to do so, because it was lacking music, and you could hear the party of 40 and 50 somethings trying to compete for talk time amongst their drunken friends. Just sayin!
That's the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars out of 5. Hopefully, the new owners pay more attention to the locals here, as we will keep them in...or out of business. Â ;)
Oh, one last thing...for two entres, two glasses of vino, two salads the total cost minus the tip was $100.21.
My husband I I were there on a Thursday night with a fairly large group. Â Everyone had a great time and the food was delicious. Â I had the Portabello mushroom sliders and they were absolutely awesome. Â The shrimp was huge, the bruschetta was tasty, and the terrific surprise was the calamari. Â It wasn't the typical, heavily breaded, calamari. Â It was light and absolutely delicious. Â Just thinking about it makes me want to go get some more, NOW. Â Another bonus was the Margarita. Â I am very picky about my Margaritas and this place serves up a good one!
The place is much lighter in feel due to the freshening up of paint and lovely decor. Â The West side patio is beautiful. Â This restaurant offers something that no other place in Poway does, Class & Sophistication. Â Loved it.
Wow! Â Amazing. Â Here now and totally enjoying our evening.
The shrimp and polenta was amazing.  Even thought we  split
The meal they DID NOT skimp on the shrimp!
The seafood pasta was fantastic! Â Better then at a Resturant on
Powell St. In SF!! Â Great service and ambiance . Â We will be back!
We will be recommending this place everyone we know!!
Had a nice dinner there tonight.
Several big screens are available by the bar so that you don't miss the big game. The patio area outback has comfortable seating, lightly played music and overhead heaters. Â Two small waterfalls make for a relaxing getaway. Â The food was excellent. Â Two thumbs up.
Why not five star?? Â 1. Â This is clearly a new restaurant. Â The staff was very nice, but they do not yet have their routine down and sort of falling over themselves. Â 2. Â It is a bit too pricey to become a weekly go to place and not a good place to take the kids. Â 3. Â I could see this quickly getting crowded.
Stopped in to try the new place.
We had been to the previous "Hill". Â It was overpriced with small portions so we never went back.
The new "Terrace" was great. Â We had the Seafood Pasta and New York Steak with pepper sauce. Â Everything tasted awesome. Â Plenty of food!
Like the new look and feel. Â Prices are a bit high for some items, and OK for others. Â Service was great. Â
All in all, much better than before.
We will probably come back for special occasions. Â Nice to have a place like this near home.
My boyfriend and I noticed the new signage the week prior and we were curious about the new restaurant's menu. When we drove up Wednesday at 3:30 we were shocked to learn they were open and having a "soft opening." The friendly server, Shelly, walked us through the lunch and dinner menu, which are on the pricier end of what one would expect in Poway.
We ended up ordering pan-fried calamari ,which tasted alright, but I still missed the crunch of the usual deep-fried calamari. Their Sonoma salad was large enough to split in two as a main, was delicious. The blue cheese and bacon burger stood out on the menu(it was only $12 with the other lunch entrees were $18-22). We ordered the burger medium-well but it came out more like well(no pink) because the patty itself was about two inches thick in the middle. The freshly-cut garlic fries tasted delicious, and unique with herbs and fennel seeds, making up for their limpness. When I asked the Manager where their burger beef came from, he said he didn't know but it was Wagyu, Kobe beef. If the boyfriend and I had known this, we would have ordered it medium at the most. We also met the owner, who seemed very nice and attentive. I think his name was Kunnar? The ambiance of the restaurant is nice; warm and inviting-much more colorful than the previoius restaurant. The lounge area in the bar looks equally inviting and plush. The restaurant looks like a nice place to escape the droll road of commerce that is Poway.
