Drove past this place about a week ago and got really excited. I moved to Springfield about 10 year ago from New York and I've missed having easily accessible Lebanese food. Decided to give it a try tonight.
My roommate has never had Lebanese before so I decided to grab the quintessentials. Falafel, beef kabob, lamb kabob, baba ganouj, and tabouli. Like other reviewers the owners gave me some freshly cooked falafel to snack on while I waited for my order to finish up. It wasn't much of a wait though, even with someone else ordering before me I had my food freshly cooked, wrapped up, and in my hands in about 7 minutes.
My one gripe (this is sarcasm btw), they saw I brought my dog and told me I had to give one of the free falafels to him (I don't think I've ever seen him eat something that fast). It's the little things like this that go a long way for me: the owners are incredibly nice, their kids are adorable (they were running and playing near the truck).
Got the food home, it was a little cold after the drive (foil instead of paper would go a long way) but still unbelievably delicious. Some of the best I've ever had and very authentic.
My roommate loved it as well; I cannot recommend That Lebanese Place enough.
Delicious, authentic, and very friendly. Â You have to try the kebabs here they are so good. There is a little bit of a wait because they cook it all fresh right there. Â So worth the wait! Â Make sure to bring cash as they don't currently accept cards. Â Located at glenstone and chestnut.
Review Source:Anyone who isn't impressed with this food coming from inside a TRUCK is a snob.
This was the BEST falafel I have ever had. It tasted so fresh and delicious and I loved the pickled turnips inside the amazing pita! Also, this is the only real pita I've had in Springfield. Store-bought pita is always too thick and doesn't roll nicely.
Anyway, eat here. Support them. I hope this becomes an established restaurant soon! This is a must-try place for everyone, especially vegetarians!
I hate to say this.... But I was not impressed with That Lebanese Place.
I was quite excited when I first saw this food truck/trailer. Mediterranean food of any kind is my favorite. I just moved back to Springfield from NYC, so the idea of having gyros from a food truck again was like heaven to me!
My boyfriend decided I treat me to this place one evening. We read good reviews on yelp, so we decided it couldn't go wrong. The couple running the truck was really nice. There was a huge sign on the front of the trailer talking about a Facebook special. We inquired about it, they told us the details, but then said it had expired the previous day. (Which my boyfriend and I agreed was a bad move for a new business.. Isn't it better to "extend" one small deal and gain two new regular customers? If not.. Take the deal sign down.) We brushed it off and ordered anyways. They talked up the food a lot and explained how authentic it was. This got us really excited. We ordered two shishka bobs and some baba ganoush. It was slightly surprising the total for 3 items was $20.. AND that we had to run across the street to get cash from an ATM. The surcharge was either $2 or $3. We kept our spirits up, though this was a bit of a hassle and an expense for a food truck meal. At this point, we still had full faith in the food though. This was all worth it if the food was incredible. The food took awhile.. But thank goodness we beat the crowd that had formed while we were gone to the ATM. We grabbed our food and went home to enjoy it.
The Shishka Bob: Looked more like a meat roll-up than the over flowing meat gyro I was expecting. The pita was slightly hard and not super warm (we didn't live far and it was wrapped in foil). About 6 chunk/slices of beef, tough to chew and not very flavor full filled the inside. I don't quite remember what else was inside... Maybe a tomato? The only thing I could taste was the pickle/relish they said was the "must try" on the shishka bob. (My boyfriend didn't like the pickle at all) Over all, all we could taste was the harsh pickle and chew through the tough meat and pita.
Baba Ganoush: It was decent. Very smokey flavored. But the pita was still slightly hard, like on our gyros.
Overall, we were disappointed. We have close friends that are Arab, so we appreciate authentic Mediterranean food... But this place was over priced, over confident, and not as tasty as we had hoped. We really did give it a chance with a good heart. However, we did end up going out to Braums for a burger because we were still hungry. I still wish this business well, dispite our sad experience.
Ok, nice add to the variety in SGF. BUT takes way way too long for a food truck (or even other rest). 40 mins for 3 beef kabobs... and from the others waiting when we arrived, that seems typical. Beef shawarma, slaw, in a pita shouldn't be that hard. Hope they figure out their process.
Review Source:I've had the spicy sloppy joe and the chicken kebab wrap. Â I like the joe but so far the chicken is my favorite. Â The humus side is huge, but you only get one piece of flat bread to dip into it. Â So I shared the hummus with my group, it was good on the fries.
Eli is very friendly and I hope they can work through the kinks and speed up the process. Â It is fresh, though!
A Lebanese food truck in Springfield? I love this. It's owned by a very kind Lebanese man & his wife...& from what I can tell, it's the real thing. Loved my beef shish kebab sandwich. Great bread (i.e. wrap) with fresh veggies/beef/etc. Loved it.
Good prices too (got a deal on the combo with a Facebook check-in).
I got the combo meal...not a big fan of the crinkle fries (probably had some when I was in Beirut, but don't remember), hence the 4 instead of 5 stars. I've heard they may substitute those. Will try next time. Â However, I got a falafel for free as the wait is a bit long as they're just opening. I understand the wait as it's a brand new place.
I hope they succeed wildly. Love having a place like this in town.
I look forward to my return, tasting their hummus, baba ganoush, etc. lots to try, & I look forward to it all...
