They don't have a menu online. I called the place and asked for the menu for carry-out so they told me that they will email me the menu. I waited half hour and never got the menu. I called them back to verify my email but the menu never showed up. It's their lost! Moving on to another Yelp carry out joint!
Review Source:I want to give this place 5 stars, but I think they have a few improvements that can be made.
First off, the Pulled Pork sandwich is amazing. Â The best I've ever had. Â I will say though, that its chopped pork, not pulled. Â But I couldn't care less. Â $5.95 for sandwich + fries.
Service was really friendly.
What irks me about this place:
1) Only 3 tables. Â Granted, its a hole in the wall, so they couldn't really fit more.
2) Since there are only 3 tables, you're most likely going to be getting your food to go. Â Therefore, there should be some place to sit. Â There's only 2 stools. Â We waited about 10-12 minutes for our sandwiches-- which is weird, because the pulled pork is already made.
3) The location kind of sucks. Â There's no way to turn into it going one way, so you have to make a U-Turn.
All in all, I will be back to try the ribs. Â Just wish it was a bigger place OR there were more seats for waiting.
I was so hoping to like this place as it's close by. Â No such luck. Â Stuck in a strip mall I never realized they've been there since December. Â When we walked in the place smells of good que'. Â It's a small place with only 3 tables. Â No problem as it's late Saturday afternoon and nobody is there. Â In fact the counter girl is out front as we pull up having a smoke. Â She goes inside and waits for us to come in... Â We ask her what does she recommend and she suggests the pulled pork sandwich which happens to be on sale for $5. Â Sounds like a deal as it includes fries. Â As we wait we're reading the signs on the walls about their Alabama BBQ. Â The three types of sauces include one that's spicy so I'm all set. Â Then our food arrives and it all goes down hill from there. Â The basket comes with a sandwich ( which was chopped not pulled) and their sweet sauce was a put on the fries as well making them soggy. Â Now I've never tried Alabama BBQ before, so sauce on fries was new to me and something I don't like. Â I was surprised they didn't bring out some sauce to try, not even ketchup for the fries. Â So I head up to the counter and ask for the spicy BBQ sauce. Â $0.50 please... $0.54 with tax. Â What?!?!? Â Really? Â So I shell out the fifty-four cents and ask her if next time I should order it with the hot bbq sauce. Â No she said, it only comes with the sweet sauce. Â She then told me she would bring it out. Â So I go back to my table cursing under my breath and let my friend know what just happened. Â She couldn't believe it either... Â So I'm nibbling on my sandwich, which is okay, but needed a kick, when I look down and realized I'm more than half way through and still no hot BBQ sauce... Â More people come in... Still nothing. Â People get their food brought out.. still nothing. Â Food was getting cold and I was just about to ask for a refund of my $0.54 when she comes out with a little cup. Â I had about a third of my sandwich left as I was holding out (my friend had already finished her meal) she said they had to make it, thats what took so long. Â Hmph, whatever, so I pour some on and it tastes like their sweet sauce with some chili powder thrown in. Â Yuck. Â I was glad I only put a little on... Â Next time I'd not have them not sauce my fries and take it easy with the sweet sauce. Â It is a lot of food for the money as the sandwich was huge, but I probably won't be back as they don't give you the option to sauce your own sandwich and I've never been to a BBQ place that charges you extra for sauce (which you have to ask for).
Review Source:The ribs are good and I like both the regular and spicy BBQ sauce. Â I have also had the rib tips but will never order them again. Â I didn't realize with every bite I would be spitting out bones. Â But if that's your thing, you get more than enough in a small order. Â As far as sides, I liked the fries and coleslaw, but the baked beans were runny and had no flavor. Â It's a pretty good place but kind of pricey. Â If I go back, I want to try the pulled pork sandwich.
FYI, this is a small place and more of a place to get carry out. Â They probably only have 5 tables in the restaurant.
I always order the full slab of ribs so I haven't tried anything else on the menu yet. Â Every time I walk in I tell myself that I'm going to try a pulled pork or something different, but it is the ribs that keep me coming back. Â They're meaty and tender and loaded with BBQ sauce.
The only thing I can say needs improvement is the take-out bag. Â They load the full slab of ribs on top of a paper tray filled with fries and then put it into a paper bag. Â By the time I get it home, the paper bag is usually wet and falling apart from the generous amount BBQ sauce & hot steam. Â Minor issue that won't keep me from coming back.
Definitely going to try more of the menu when I get tired of the ribs, but that might not be anytime soon.
Trust me, if you want real barbeque, give the place a try. They truly do it right.
The other negative reviews are from people who grew up on barbeque out of a boiling
pot then put in the oven. After speaking with the owner they have a pit grill inback
that really cooks the food the right way. Give Thomas' a try and let the owner know that rick sent you from yelp.
Went to this place last night and can honestly say this was the worst BBQ (I use that term loosely) that I've ever had. Â I can only speak to the "pulled" pork and side of beans since that's all I had, it's possible their other items are better though I would be surprised.
When I walked in there were 2 other people waiting in front of me. Â I ordered and proceeded to wait about 15 minutes for my sandwich and beans. Â All the while you hear nothing but chopping in back. Â Strange since I saw no "chopped" items on the menu. Â Finally my order came out, I sat at one of the 3 tables in the place and opened my bag. Â I quickly realized that "pulled" pork to them was really chopped pork (I'm guessing the other "pulled" items on the menu are the same) and I also quickly realized the reason why. Â The grade of meat was probably select at best and they just chop everything up there. Â There were tons of fat pieces, I would say more so than actual meat but you couldn't pull any of it out since it was so finely chopped. Â I couldn't tell what else was in there either but it just looked sickly. Â I found 1 or 2 bits of edible meat in there and it tasted as though it was boiled rather than cooked low and slow. Â To top it off they basically blended their meat mixture with some sort of sauce that was equally bland and the whole thing was just disgusting.
I turned my attention to the beans that came in a soup container. Â I opened it up and saw no beans but rather a brown liquid (literally liquid not even thick and saucy). Â I sunk my spoon to the bottom to find a handful of beans but by this time i was so fed up that I just bundled it all up and threw it out.
The only redeeming quality of the place was that the smokey smell in there was decent enough and I walked in very hungry so I would have eaten pretty much anything by the time I got my food but this was beyond what even I would eat.
I had Thomas BBQ for the first time last night and I have to say that I was very impressed. Â I ordered the Alabama sampler platter, which consists of a half slab of ribs, a pulled pork sandwich, 2 sausages and fries. Â It was a LOT of food and needless to say I couldn't finish all of it in one sitting. Â The ribs are very meaty and tender, they were fantastic and should not be missed. Â The pulled pork sandwich had enough meat on it for about 2 sandwiches, which is how they should be made. Â I had to eat most of it with a fork, because the bun couldn't come close to holding all of the pork. Â The sausage was good, although one of them was a little bland, like breakfast sausage and the other one had a lot more spice in it and was much better. Â The sausages are big, about the size of a brat, so don't think you're getting something the size of a breakfast link. Â The fries are steak fries and are good. Â My only gripe and it is very minor, is the BBQ sauce, it just didn't have much kick or much flavor. Â I prefer a sweet and spicy sauce and this was just kinda sweet with not much flavor. Â It isn't bad sauce, but I think when I order again, I'll provide my own sauce and I will be ordering again. Â I highly recommend checking this place out, they have great food and huge portions.
Review Source:I can't figure this place out. I saw all the great reviews so I decided I'd give it a try on Sunday night. I went there around 7 pm and it was closed. So we figured we'd try it on Monday and passed by around 4 pm and it was closed. I figured it went out of business because it did before. Today I passed by at 4 pm and it's open. WTH! Â If they are going to change there hours they need to update their info. I am giving it 2 stars but I don't know what the food is like since every time I go to try it it's closed. Not a good sign!
Review Source:We have been watching this place for a little while, waiting for it to open. Finally open, we sampled it on Friday.
My husband ordered the Alabama Platter. He said it was e Pugh for two people. It comes with Pulled Pork Sandwich, Hot links and ribs. One side. Hot links were excellent, full of flavor and spicy. The pulled pork had that sweet, smoky BBQ flavor. My daughter 1/2 slab of ribs. Ribs were falling off the bone, very tender. The fries are good too. Steak fries.
I ordered from here today. After their rave reviews I had to try it. I ordered their small rib tips which is a lb actually. I couldn't finish it! Very generous portions. The tips were very tender and smoky. The sauce tangy and sweet.
The owners are really nice and provide great customer service. I would highly recommend this place. Great BBQ. This will be a place we will eat again and again. Try it, you will not be disappointed.
Those of you suffering at Famous Dave's and Gemato's (no offense) can now get some proper BBQ in the west 'burbs.
Woo hoo! Happy to be the first to review this rib shack pushing some tasting Bama style BBQ. Don't be fooled by the low key, strip mall location. I only found out about this place as it was a few stores down from my dentist. I did a slow drive by and was sceptical at first, but decided to at least check the menu. Upon opening the door, I was enveloped in that smokey bbq scent (the smoker is right behind the counter) and knew I was amongst friends.
Details: This is a carry out place so order up the sampler (pulled pork, 1/4 slab, and hot links) and resist the gluttany in the car as the sweet smell permeates your ride. There is one table in the shop if you must dine on location (I've also just pulled up a stool to the counter during lunch). The hot links are my personal favorite although the baby backs rock as well. Sauce is thick and sweet.
