Love this new spot in Fairfield, NJ.  It has a great vibe and cool copper bar for enjoying lunch or watching the game.  The food has been consistently delicious with a full menu that offers lots of choice.  The service is excellent and friendly, and the bartenders are experienced.  I recently enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day Brunch with carving station, omelet bar, and seafood display. I recommend it for lunch, dinner or private, small events and celebrations.  So happy to see this quality in the area!

My husband and I arrived around 8:00 p.m. on a Thursday night and headed straight for the bar where a friend of mine was working. I'd never been in to try his place, and that night seemed as good as any.

The place was packed and had good vibes, minus a group of possibly overly intoxicated middle-aged ladies behind us, but that's pretty normal for a place like this. We stuck mostly with their selection of craft beer, which were delicious and plentiful, but there was an abundance of other drinks to choose from also.

We skipped the appies and went straight for the entree round (though I did order two appetizers as my entree). I got the steamed mussels, which had great flavor and lots of roasted garlic, and the pot roast nachos. Ahem. Let me say that again: the POT ROAST NACHOS. The plate came with four large red nachos, each served with a gigantic chunk of delicious pot roast on top and then topped with grilled corn salsa (straight off the cob - kernels were stil stuck together!). My husband opted for one of the organic options on the menu: the chicken pot pie (comfort food at its finest). We finished off the meal with the lavender creme brûlée with blackberry sorbet, served with fresh blueberries; a light, sweet, heavenly dessert that I more-that-eagerly devoured on my own.

The barkeeps were attentive without hovering and easy to talk to, even the one who I'd never met before, and the decor was thematic, with lots of copper found throughout the bar (pennies on the tabletops, on the menu covers, around the pillers behind the bar, etc.). The service and quality is definitely worth the money.

I've only been here once so far so this is based on our first experience.

We sat at a high bar table in what used to be the formal dining room. It was a little late so there was no hostess but the bartender came to us right away when we walked over.

Started with cocktails - the peach iced tea. Very good, not too sweet, reminded me of summer.

Next was app's where I had the french onion soup and bf had the house salad. They were both excellent.

For entrees I got the pot roast which came over mashed potatoes but also had a side of potatoes and carrots. Double potatoes(?) But the meat was tender and gravy was rich. Bf had the steak frite which is a steak over french fries - his two favorite things. It also had gravy so I was stealing some of those gravy soaked fries. Yum. It was a little on the salty side though.

No, it is not the Merchant House, who will be missed, but it needed a refresh to get more people in. I heard weekend nights are popular at the bar.

Tip: come with an empty stomach but a full wallet. Priced like a high end steakhouse.
