My friend and I arrived after the lunch rush so it was pretty dead, but I really liked the decor and ambiance of what seemed (since I've never actually been to Ireland) like an actual Irish pub.
The menu is a pretty green color (my favorite) and easy-to-read. I had the veggie reuben which was actually really good. Since I stopped eating meat, that means no real reubens, but this "fake" reuben satisfied me instead. What's really cool about this restaurant is that they really and truly cook. Their recipes and creations are unique, they bake some of their own bread, AND grind their own meat for burgers. The quality of their food is great, and, for lunch, it'll get you full for a reasonable price.
After skimming through a few other reviews, I guess TIr Na Nog has some fun events going on at night, so I'm definitely coming back for dinner!
Tir Na Nog?  Yes, please  If you want to go to a very familiar but never been here, friendly, diverse crowd with great drinks and fantastic food, then get moving and get to Tir Na Nog NOW!  We walked in on a Saturday night and it was still early - there were enough people here to make it feel like we were somewhere, but not so many so it felt overwhelming - Cheryl was at the front desk and was incredibly helpful - gave us a map of the area and escorted us to the bar - ask for MAY - she is, by far, the BEST bartender I've ever had - and I've had some awesome bartenders people.  MAY gave us food and drink recommendations and was prompt, friendly and fun!  Gave us great recommendations for a couple of places around there too!  Tell her Peggy & Diana sent you and go get a drink and come hungry!  Are you still here? :o)
Review Source:Something has changed here. I used to enjoy a night at Tir Na Nog, but will avoid it in the future. The staff was friendly but the overall feel was grimy. We decided to pass on dinner and instead ordered the hummus. They used to sell a great black bean hummus. Now it's a chickpea hummus that is chunky, dry and without any taste. The other interesting thing is that few other patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves.
As I said, something has changed here.
Fun local establishment right on Moore Square. Â Great live Irish music and darts for entertainment. Â The atmosphere is sort of like dining in an outdoor cafe/pub on cobbled streets of, presumably, Dublin. Â Got a sitter and did a dinner and a movie night out, or "Irish and the IMAX," if you will.
We chose Tir Na Nog based on its vegetarian options, and shared the following, resulting in a load of leftovers:
Boxty Chips with Curry Apple Dip - HUGE order for you and your seven other friends
Onion Rings
Beer Cheese Soup
Roasted Beet Salad
Falafel Veggie Burger
"Seasonal" Bread Pudding, which in early June meant beautiful blueberries
Went there for drinks one of the nights and just had appetizers and drinks and food was pretty good. Being from UK, I saw the menu and really wanted to come back for breakfast with my wife. Came for the breakfast brunch just yesterday, and was disappointed that it was buffet only and we could not order anything from the menu. The brunch was ok, nothing too spectacular. It would be nice to have some irish and UK style pub food for breakfast! Overall, it's fairly good, about equivalent to Trali's Irish pub..would go back again for sure
Review Source:Went for a quick lunch with my daughter. Didn't get to try the food. I open carry my side arm everyday, and yes I'm licensed and legal. The manager came to the table and barked "this is not the wild west, you can't have that gun in here!" I informed her that there is no NC law prohibiting it and there was no indication on the door that the they forbid it. She just said "We're getting a sign, and our policy is that we don't allow guns in here, so you just need to leave", so we did. I'm giving the one star because the hostess was very nice to us even after the manager was not. I understand not allowing sidearms into your establishment, but you should certainly post that policy plainly, and NOT be so rude when speaking with your customers. Had she been more polite I would have even come back another time.
Review Source:(I can't belive I forgot to write this review when I was there... ) Excellent scotch eggs and a perfect Black and Tan! I went with my brothers and sister while visiting for a family get together... we have a Brit pub in Winnipeg that's owned by an Irishman, and he makes great B&T's. Turns out, so do the folks at Tir Na Nog. Not an easy feat. We ate, played darts, and just generally had a blast. Even when the run came in for the "voluntary donation" buffet, it was all good. They also make a fantastic beef wellington. Cheers, Tir Na Nog!
Review Source:This is just your average drunk person pub. The floors are sticky, the porta potties (YES!) are smelly and the waitresses don't ask you for refills. The food was pretty good, but I probably won't be going back based on the rest of my experience. Probably if you are single and looking to mingle, this is the place to go. But if you are looking for a traditional Irish pub there are other options in town that are way better.
Review Source:My review is only for the Sunday brunch.  It's becoming a tradition for us to take our two daughters to Marbles on a Sunday morning and then eat a large early lunch.  The food is very yummy.  I love eggs benedict and I will say this is their least consistent item.  Sometimes the eggs are way overcooked, the hollandaise is too sour or not plentiful or the bread is overly dry.  They make it with bacon sometimes, country ham? others and once in a great while with "canadian bacon".  Other than that, all their other food is really good.  I got a treat when they had fried sardines over white beans during my last visit.  Very tasty.  There is always corn dogs for the girls.  They used to have waffles but their irons broke so now it's a pancake station.  It's the slowest station there but the girls love it.  The omelet chef is efficient and very good at his job - he's always so pleasant.  I love their sausage gravy - it's not southern  - and I can't eat enough of it.  They have some sort of taco every time and it's fabulous every single time.  The waitstaff is very nice - I've only had one bad one and she was new and I have not seen here since I complained.  There is something for everyone on the buffet.  My biggest complaint would be the chairs.  I know this is a pub and it's a bar atmosphere but can we please get some new chairs? LOL
Review Source:Great little find in downtown Raleigh. Large selection of beers to suit any palate, friendly wait staff, fresh food and some live music is the recipe of success.
Tir Na Nog knows this and does just that.
This is the real deal. If you know the difference between frozen, processed food and fresh food this is your place!
Visited on Good Friday and 2 people in our party raved over the fish n chips. Thankfully I was able to get a bite and let me tell you it was worth the extra calories for a fried treat! My husband and daughter both enjoy a burger. We split chicken fingers as an appy and it was fresh chicken breast breaded right here in the kitchen and you can't taste it!
I treated myself to the beer can chicken with Mac n cheese! The chicken was mouth watering and Mac n cheese was to outstanding.
This is a must stop place!
This review is strictly for the Sunday Brunch.
We went here for Sunday brunch, arriving at 10:45. Â I believe it starts at 10 or 10:30 so I recommend getting here early when all of the food is fresh.
Much of it was great, all of it was good. Â I had the omelette chef make me a veggie omelette and it was awesome. Â I also had a corn dog, black bean enchilada, cheesy eggs, bacon, bread pudding, fruit, and I tasted a few other items. Â I was quite pleased. Â Then I got the bill--- only $12 per person??? and they didn't charge for my four-year old who very much enjoyed the pancake station. Â Highly recommend!
It is one of the few places you can get a strongbow, which is actually a very powerful little cider if you get a chance to go by here sometime. Â So it was St patricks day this past weekend so like any good irishwoman I went to Tir Na Nog and had myself a good ol' irish breakfast......The only thing I cannot eat is the bread I swear I think its deep fried and alone is 200-300 calories its that grease lol. Â Its almost a tradition for my dear friend Brittany G. and I to try to eat it alas we are still only able to scrounge together eating a piece of bread aloung the two of us.
On other non irish themed holidays there sheppards pie is good as well as their burgers though they have not wowed me yet I still greatly enjoy having whiskey there as well as their trivia night on wednesday. Â
Sometimes I feel like im just at a regular restaurant and not a full on irish pub I could also be drunk and preoccupied with trying to fight lol jk. Â But really its a intresting place to chill and get drunk but if you want authentic irish fare and atmosphere you may wanna try your hand at a few other irish locations.
xoxo
A post Nog Run Club sponsored race had me enjoying my first actual meal at Tir Na Nog.
Someone suggested the salmon and oh my-it was absolutely delicious!
Other than sharing a few pints here and there, the above mentioned meal is the only food I've ever eaten there. Â
Enjoy myself ever time I go though!
I recently attended a concert here. I go to this establishment about 2-3 times a month, and I always enjoy the food and the selection of drinks. The wait staff are extremely polite and the place has a nice Irish pub ambiance. The only thing I would change is that their bathrooms could be a lot cleaner. It is sort of like a third world country in there.
Review Source:The only time we've ever come to Tir Na Nog is for their Celtic Christmas, so perhaps this review will be a bit specialized. There was a special menu just for this night, live music, and a shopping area with Celtic vendors.
I made reservations and brought my parents here for a special Christmas dinner. There was a different menu, so my husband was able to order a more normal (non-pastry) steak with green beans, and my son could order a corn dog off the kid's menu. I ordered the beef pasty, as it sounded too good to resist. Their beer menu seems to fluctuate quite a bit, and both the beers I ordered don't appear to be on the menu now, so I won't mention them. But they were good!
The waiter was kind enough to wait between songs or sets when taking orders, bringing food out, or asking questions. The music was very loud and it would have been hard to hear him otherwise.
Our table was nicely situated so everyone would have a good view of the stage, and the music was really great, both Celtic and festive. Between sets we checked out the vendors, and my mother picked out a few nice pieces she liked.
My son got his entree first, and he ate most of his corn dog and a good portion of his fries. A decent rating from him.
My husband's steak came out perfect, and he said the green beans came out amazing as well. That's quite an accomplishment, to have my husband compliment the vegetables. He ate his whole meal quite happily.
I loved my beef pasty, but I thought the serving size was huge. There was no way anyone could eat a whole one. Plus this sort of thing probably doesn't reheat very well. I also wasn't thrilled with the pea mashed potatoes, but I'm not a huge fan of peas to begin with (unless they're fresh and uncooked). The steak fries I had no problem with.
The entire Christmas celebration, with the music, food, and shopping, was a good experience at a great price. My parents said it was one of the nicer experiences they had while visiting in North Carolina. If parking downtown wasn't such a pain, I think I'd come here more often.
For those of you who aren't in the know, Tir Na Nog is the original Irish bar in Raleigh. When they first opened their doors, beer drinkers and alcoholics alike swooned down on the place hoping to get a glimpse of a leprochaun or a hot irish guy. After the appeal wore off, we realized irish food wasn't that great, but they do a kick-ass brunch.
I've taken a long hiatus from this brunch hot spot, but dropped in recently to stretch my stomach out before the State Fair later that evening. It's something akin to practicing before a marathon.
They still offer the infamous omelet station (complete with a singing omelet maker...he had a little omelet diddy that was quite catchy), a salad bar, lots of fresh fruit, pastry table, tacos that day, regular breakfast items, and the like. We left fat, sleepy, and ready to take on ...the couch.
Great place to chill and grab yummy food!
I went here with my boyfriend to see The Gravy Boys (great band by the way). Had the Scottish Egg and the Chicken Pasties... Both are to die for! The Scottish Egg had an interesting concept of hard boil egg covered in ground beef (i think) ... It was a great starter.
The Cken Curry Pasties was sooo good, I am still thinking and drooling about it.. That Indian curry was on the sweeter side and paired up with the pastry, OOHHHH!!! Tooo Good!!!
Dad wanted to drive all the way from Chapel Hill to Raleigh so we could dine here on his birthday, so we did. Upon entering it looked like the average Irish pub, with the whole faux "authentic" feel to it. I was a bit upset to see that the traditional Irish breakfast and lack of Irish breakfast tea on the menu. So I went with good ol bangers and mash.
Before the food even came out I was worried. Most restaurants use bangers with thick casing, and I hate casing. To my surprise the bangers here did not have casing, which made them much easier to eat. They had a light spice to them, the addition of roasted tomatoes was nice as well.
Overall it was a solid meal, not sure it was worth the drive but hey....birthday boy got his wish.
You can usually find me here on Monday nights. Tir Na Nog holds one of the largest run clubs in the area on Monday nights at 6. The run goes through the historic Oakwood neighborhood. After the run they provide a pasta and salad buffet for only $1. Both are fairly good. They also often have trivia at 7. If you aren't running I would suggest not coming on Monday nights unless you like being surrounded by sweaty smelly people.
I have also been here on a Sunday morning for brunch. Brunch is quite tasty with a wide variety of food to choose from. They have a waffle bar and different types of salads as well as the usual eggs and meat. Get there right when it starts otherwise you may have to wait a while as it gets quite busy.
After a busy day at Artsplosure, food was a must and feeling tapped out on energy and the ability to make decisions, we turned to the closest food-bearing establishment. Lucky choice! The first thing I was grateful for at Tir Na Nog was a distinct lack of pseudo-Irish folkesque music playing. The second, an excellent selection of both whisky and whiskey (and they have that American stuff, if you drink it), as well as a good showing of local beers on tap. Third thing, vegetarian food that goes beyond sad salads and skimpy sandwiches!
I ordered the tempeh Ruben, which came on toasted rye bread with a proper amount of sauerkraut loaded between tempeh and bread; the spouse opted for the vegetarian pastie (rhymes with 'fastie'), which arrived stuffed with mushrooms, zucchini and other vegetables, accompanied by a massive scoop of mashed potatoes. Everything was far tastier than your average pub grub; while the menu wasn't pretentiously high-brow, the food is certainly more gastropub than bar snack. Chill atmosphere devoid of both popped collars and ironic facial hair, good drinks and meatless eats? We're already planning a return visit.
Went here on a Friday night and they had an authentic Irish band playing which was really cool! The food was good. I ordered the following
Appetizer - Scotch Egg 10/10
Meal - Blount St. Burger 5/10
The Scotch Egg dish was out of this world. Â It's basically a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage. It was unreal. Â The rest of the meal was down hill from there. Â I'm a big burger eater and after being blown away from the Scotch Egg dish I had big hopes for the Blount St. Burger. Â Alas the Burger Gods did not deem this establishment with the glory I was seeking from a burger. Â The St. Blount is nothing more then aCheeseburger with onion rings on top. The onion rings were unlike any I've ever had before, I think they were baked and not deep fried which left them lacking in flavor. I also only got one opinion ring on my burger, I would I have like at least two or three more. The burger itself was tasty though, hence the five out of 10 rating.
I'd go back here
I just had the most amazing brunch at Tir Na Nog! Â First off, it is very fairly price, for $12 you get an all you can eat buffet of amazing food, with a great selection!! Â There was everything you could want, including eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, egg benedict, fresh fruit, and the most amazing pancakes and belgium waffles I have ever tasted. Â And for those of you who do not enjoy breakfast food, there was a great selection of lunch too including salads, a mexican bar and even corn dogs on a stick! Â And if all that was not enough, there was an amazing display of desserts including different cakes, muffins, cheesecake and banana pudding. Â I could barely walk afterward I had consumed so much delicious food. Â
Another thing I really enjoyed about the brunch was that several drinks, including all soft drinks, coffee and tea was included in the buffet price. Â You only have to pay extra for drinks that need to be received from the bar, which is a nice touch. Â We had a large group of us, around twelve people, and the waitress was great. She came and took our drink orders immediately, and asked us if we wanted to do separate checks, which I always appreciate in a large group, as splitting the bill gets hard since no one carries cash anymore.
This was not my first experience at Tir Na Nog. I have been there for dinner as well, Â also with a large group, and it was just as fantastic. Â We ended up needing room for about six more people than we were expecting, and the waiter was very accommodating to our needs, finding us extra chairs and being very patient as more guests started to arrive after he had already seated us. Â The dinner menu is also fairly priced, with a large selection to choose from. Â (Their chips are especially delicious). Â The beer selection is great as well. I've tried a pumpkin beer there that was sensational.
Not only do you get to enjoy a great meal, but the entertainment there is great as well! Being an Irish Girl myself, I especially enjoy the live music that features Irish singers and even bagpipes! Â I have had to move tables there once for dinner however, because if you get seated too close to the band, it is hard to carry a conversation at your table. Â During dinner hours the music should be much quieter, and then pick up later in the evening.
Basically, you need to go have brunch at Tir Na Nog. And it wouldn't be a bad idea to check out dinner sometime as well!
Tir na nOg is the gathering spot on Monday nights @ 6 PM for the nOg Run Club followed by trivia, and that's why I've been here so often. I probably wouldn't hang out here so much if it wasn't for the run club, but it's a nice spot. I like that they allow us runners to take over with our sweaty selves and pay $1 for salad and pasta, and they always have some beer specials.
I've only eaten here once, and I had the black bean burger, which was good. I am pretty picky on my veggie burgers, but I'd order it again.
I've also come a couple times to hear some local artists, and that's been a fun time as well, especially because of the great beer selection.
In old Irish legends, TÃr na nÓg is this mystic land of eternal youth and beauty. Here, music, strength, life, and all pleasurable pursuits came together in a single place. Here happiness lasted forever; no one wanted for food or drink.
Except, at THIS Tir Na Nog, you WOULD want to order their food and drinks, because there are plenty, and they are delicious. I have been several times, for food, for drinks, and for shows, and have not been disappointed by the Jumbo Guinness Wings (I'm not too sure on that jumbo part, but the glaze on the wings are not bad at all.) Whiskey Burger and Cottage Pie and Raleigh Cheesesteak are some creation for old and new. But don't think they are all about meat, because Tir Na Nog is veggie-friendly too, with delicious Shiitake Sliders and Veggie Reuben and Grilled BBQ Tempeh (strange right? I know!)
Tir Na Nog is serious about beers too. Just look at the bar and you can tell they mean business, with chart topper like Guinness and Harp and Smithwick's of course they have micro brews and local brews like Allagash, New Belgium, and Big Boss.
For a list/calendar of events and performances, check out their website event page <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tirnanogirishpub.com%2Fevent&s=bbb20ad91e6c28d0fb1c18ee85031c94dbf8aa9000d3ad0c228ddf52a1fd8e29" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.tirnanogirish…</a>
Been here a few times...first time we went not very impressed (about 18 months ago), been back times since then and we LOVE IT!!! Â
Beer selection GREAT!
Food is good and reasonable priced.
Atmosphere in the afternoon was perfect for a family.
Some of our favorites: Â Pub Chicken sanwich, spinach tortilla wrap, guiness wings and beer soup.
Not impressed at all. During my 4-day visit to North Carolina, this was absolutely my least favorite spot. Â Why? It's not the beer, I ordered Amstel Light out of a bottle so I can't complain about that. It's not the location because it's in a great spot. The bar itself is really cute - big circular bar in the middle of the room - Cheers style but what does Cheers have that this place doesn't? Â Good, friendly service. I was shocked at how more than one staffer provided poor service. They had a few regulars they gave all the attention to and the rest of us where chopped liver. I could have understood a little more if the place was busy but at the time I went which was about 4pm, it was still pretty quiet. The employees were super busy gossiping about some fight the night before with some marine...it was so inappropriate to laugh and tell all the customers about it .
My friend is a current resident of Durham and a future (2 weeks) resident of Raleigh and with an experience like this, I doubt he is going back nor will he be introducing this place to his friends. I'm not s resident but I always go to YELP to voice my opinion so though I don't live out there I wanted to express my feelings. I was very disappointed in the awful customer service by the 2 bartenders and the host.
Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. Husband and I ordered veggie pasties, parents both had the roasted beet salad. Both were delicious. Waitress was attentive and friendly. She handled my somewhat difficult father with perfect grace.
Almost had to drop down a star because dinner took so long to come out. To be honest, we personally didn't mind the wait because it gave us time to chat and watch the adorable Irish dancers. Though we never complained about the wait, the kitchen apparently though our dinners took an unacceptable amount of time, as the chef sent out a towering dessert tray of brownies, cookies, ice cream, and fresh strawberries as an apology. That gesture more than made up for the wait in my mind. Oh yes, cookies were warm in the center, ice cream was smooth, brownies were moist and drizzled with chocolate, and the strawberries, perfectly ripe.
Wonderful experience overall, and I enjoy the casual, somewhat chintzy but well executed Irish village vibe. Prices are reasonable, food is delicious, and staff is impeccable.
Yah, I've been here for a couple of long evenings of music and ale but recently had the chance to visit the Nog for brunch! Â While it's not a fancy setting, Tir Na Nog does a nice casual brunch without busting the bank ($12). Â Four tables are set up with small steam trays of food along with two tables for To Order omelettes and waffles. Â Today they had the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, breakfast potatoes, along with smoked brisket, vegetable hash, zucchini casserole, collards and more! Everything was tasty and the place was pretty busy. Â Seating was limited so we just hung out at the bar! Â Service was solid and attentive...
It's not a fancy brunch but a great stop if you're looking for a mellow start to your Sunday. Â Grab a bloody mary or beer and get ready to eat! Â Head on over to IMAX, Moore Square or Fayetteville Street for your Lazy Sunday. While the Nog still doesn't blow me away, I always leave pretty happy so what more can I ask for? Â Tir Na Nog is a great pub for some beers, live Irish music and even some brunch, slainte!
"Tir Na Nog" is one of the names for heaven in Irish Mythology, and that is exactly what Tir Na Nog in Raleigh is for me. This is by far my favorite restaurant/pub in the Triangle area. As much as I do love it I am sorry to say that I have not been to Tir Na Nog a lot recently. I went for the first time in about a year a few weeks back, and I am happy I did.
I did not eat here this time, but I have many times in the past. They serve many traditional Irish meals including my favorites Shepard's Pie and Guinness Stew. They also serve a few different dishes that might be American/Italian/Mexican, but they usually have some Irish flair to it.
Now the real reason you should go to Tir Na Nog, the drinks. If you are a beer drinker they certainly have a great selection, and of course they know how to properly pour a Black and Tan(Bass and Guinness) or a Half and Half(Harp and Guinness). If you are a whiskey drinker, then this is certainly the best place for you. They not only have a great Irish Whiskey Selection they also have a very large Scotch Selection as well. I usually only drink Irish Whiskey, and they certainly have a great selection. First of all they have many different brands of Irish Whiskey. They only have 2 different Jamesons, the regular and 12 year old, but that is fine as sometimes the other Jamesons are hard to find. They also have Midleton Irish Whiskey, which is considered by many to be the best Whiskey in the world ($30 a shot but it literally is the best)
TÃr na nÓg is a great place for dinner, a big night out with friends, and a kickass place to hear some live music.  Friday nights TÃr na nÓg hosts Local Beer Local Band, where you can check out live music from some kickass RDU bands like Max Indian and the Future Kings of Nowhere while sipping on some Big Boss.  They have an impressive beer selection, which includes old Irish favorites, as well as several delicious brews from North Carolina breweries.  My two faves are Big Boss' Blanco Diablo (shouldn't it be "Diablo Blanco"?)  from Raleigh and Highland Gaelic Ale from Asheville.
Call ahead to make a reservation for a big party---last night I was there with a birthday party group of sixteen---and you can also book private parties here. Â We sat stage-side, where the absolutely, hilariously delightful Irishman singer/guitarist/comedian Gerry McCrudden serenaded the three folks celebrating birthdays there that night, insisting that one young woman come up on stage to receive a kiss. Â "We won't be usin' tongue, now"---he assured the girl---"This is, after all, a family place." Â This kiss we were all waiting for ended up just a gentlemanly peck on the cheek, which made all that buildup even funnier. Â We sat directly in front of the stage and our concerns that it would be too loud to converse were all for naught. Â Next up was live music from local band Walrus, which indeed is much louder, and creates the perfect setting for a night out.
The vegetarian options on the menu are impressive!  We started with the Ye Olde Celtic Nachos (sans chili), which subs kettle chips for tortilla chips, and is served with cheddar jack cheese sauce (I prefer shredded cheese), sour cream, fresh jalapeños, pico de gallo, and salsa verde.  They're interesting, but messy as all get out.  I went through five paper napkins eating these suckers.  I also tried the beer cheese soup, which is freakin' awesome, topped with popcorn (it was dark in there, but I'm pretty sure that's what it was!), and comes with an absolutely delicious slice of soda bread. Â
For my entrée I had trouble choosing between the black eye pea burger, shiitake sliders, veggie reuben, and grilled BBQ tempeh.  I ended up with that last dish, which comes with collard greens and roasted potatoes.  I'm pretty sure those "roasted potatoes" are just thick french fries.  I mean, they were good, but greasy like regular fries.  The tempeh was pretty tasty and I am just ecstatic that they offered it on the menu!
All told, we had a blast here, our server was attentive and efficient, and we got to use our $25 GC I bought on <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurant.com&s=0aab4cbd731f3d3b0d1453050d3abc56a8c80bd214e25469c7555b750dca8a51" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurant.com</a> for $4. Â Score!
I have heard great things about their brunch menu; looking forward to checking it out!
I would have originally given Tir Na Nog 5 stars up until last Sunday. Â We always come here for Sunday brunch because they have a variety of entrees and desserts at the buffet tables. Â However, their service and the food has gone downhill. Â
First, they sort of killed our mood on Easter Sunday. Â We arrived at 1:55pm (brunch closes at 2:30pm) and they told us that they weren't replacing the food items that were already out on display. Â When I took a quick look there were literally scraps of food left. Â Not worth my time, so I ended up going somewhere else in downtown for food. Â Alas, this could have been totally my fault for arriving only 35 minutes before their brunch closed. Â Plus, it was a holiday so I gave them a break. Â
I get to Tir Na Nog around 12:30pm this past Sunday (ample time to dig into their goodies) and there is only one table (opposed to the 2 -3) with what looked like leftover food they can't sell in their restaurant. Â The dessert table had one slice of chocolate and some store bought donuts. Â I also don't want to forget to mention the FLIES hanging out at this dessert table. Â
When I asked for a waffle, the guy told me to check back in 10 mins and maybe he could find a waffle iron. Â Eh, nevermind. Â Â At this point I just started getting pissed because they ruined Sunday brunch. Â I brought my mom to Tir Na Nog raving about their food yet they provide this junk and still charge us the same price?
When we asked the waiter why the lack of items in their brunch assortment - he answered "oh we just had 2 wedding this week. Â We've gone through more food than anticipated"
Just as I thought - I'm eating leftover food. Â Thanks for scrapping up what you could and charging me the same brunch price.
Having graduated from fun loving social beer drinker to family infused Sunday bruncher, this may help explain my rating.
Let me tell you whats good. Smithwicks (pronounced Smidwicks) on draft and a full assortment of other beverages which should be found in any great Irish Bar. A good sized menu and a good atmosphere. Great layout in Downtown Raleigh, right across from Moore's Square with outdoor tables to boot. There are lots of themed nights, including an April 20th celebration I missed last year *bows head in respect*.
However, I used to LOVE the brunch. They used to have a huge layout of many different types of foods, including different breads (Irish bread was outstanding), soups, pastas, seafood, breakfast dishes, and homemade waffles among other items. The desert selection was also robust and outstanding.
Notice how all of this is in the past tense? Apparently they need a stimulus package here because I went again last weekend, and man have things changed. No soups, waffle maker was broken, deserts were almost gone with the best desert being the store-bought donuts (yeah). The selection was down to a single table of items where it had been 2 tables before. Most of the items were average to good, with only the bread pudding being tasty.
Do I really like Tir Na Nog? Yeah. Do I want people to go here? Oh yeah.
Do I suggest the current Sunday brunch? Eh...I'll let you know when the stimulus money hits.
