This was our first time to tita's grill and we were there for the garlic shrimp plate. We were not disappointed. The portions are generous and the quality was outstanding. The staff was friendly and definitely embodies the aloha spirit!
We used to frequent another famous shrimp truck, but Tita's is far superior. We will be back!
The first time I came here I had the kalibi and garlic shrimp combo. Â It was soooooo gooooood! Â Garlic shrimp is waaay better than the other shrimp trucks. Â I like my shrimp plump and here is perfect! Â Today, my 2nd time here I wanted to try something different so I ordered the Fried Chicken Plate. Â The cashier said it was gonna be a 15min wait. Â I said ok. Â When I tasted it, wow! Â It was awesome! Â Crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside! Â The best I've tasted--better than Zippys chicken! Â As we drove off, I just had to call them and compliment of their awesome fried chicken!
Review Source:Came here for breakfast because we were staying at Turtle Bay resort for a few nights and didn't really want to eat breakfast at the resort. Â We sought out some low-key local style places to grab a bite and we found Tita's Grill which is only a few minutes drive from the resort.
I wouldn't necessarily call this a "bite". The portions are HUGE, and not only are they large, everything is well prepared. I got a spam and egg sandwich and I swear they literally sliced a I think an inch thick slice of spam on my sandwich, with fluffy eggs, served on a dense homemade roll. It was delicious! I could only finish half of it, but savorted the other half later on. Hubs got a breakfast platter with portugese sausage and it was served with a slice of homemade toasted bread that was the size of my face (and I have a big pancake face). It was thick and moist, dense and chewy, with a nutty, buttery flavor. This isn't your typical wonder bread, this was definitely homemade from a special recipe. I saw a lot of surfers who came here and just had a slice of that bread and a cup of coffee. What a good way to carb-load before a day of surfing!
Everyone is super friendly too. I love places like this when I am in Hawaii! We will return and try lunch/dinner too! But definitely will have to share a meal next time!
My family ordered, Garlic shrimp, Kalua pig and cabbage, beef stew with steamed rice and had their bread pudding for dessert. The flavors in all of our dishes was amazing. My Garlic shrimp had a great garlic flavor paired perfectly with steamed rice and macaroni salad.
The people working here were very friendly.
I would highly recommend this restaurant to any one that loves great flavors and reasonable prices. Go there!
If you forget about personal service and just want to try a really good shrimp plates and ribs, this is the place to try on the North Shore. Â The quality of the shrimp plate is better than the food truck right beside it (yes I tried both), and it's actually $1 cheaper. Â The Kal-B ribs is to die for. Â Even though the service is slow but it's worth the wait. Â This place is not as crowded as next door, but don't let that fool you. Â Try both places and see for yourself.
Review Source:On a cruise around the island, we stopped at Tita's as recommended by a friend. Â I was bummed that they were out of the Pounder but after seeing my friends plate with the garlic shrimp I decided to get a garlic chicken and garlic shrimp mix plate. Â
The shrimp was cooked perfectly, they look plump and succulent. Â The chicken was cooked to order, not precooked and waiting to be served. Â Both were very good, I personally wouldn't mind a little more garlic but it's better than having too much. Â
We were a good size group, 10 cars crammed in front of the dining areas. Â We were treated to free soda and even dessert which was chocolate cake with ice cream.
My plate was $15 but not unreasonable if you compare it to other places there. Â After my last visit to Giovanni's shrimp truck, I got turned off of the shrimp thing as I didn't find it worth it, I'm very glad I had the garlic shrimp here. Â This is my favorite place in that area now, I don't think I need to try any of the other shrimp places anymore.
Stop by, you won't regret it. Â Great people and great food.
Just came to this part of town for my 3rd son's football game. We didn't plan on eating here until during the game, my 2nd son started feeling ill (from hunger). So we both left the game at halftime and walked across the street from Kahuku's Football field to Tita's.
We get there and sweet, no line. Â My son ordered the hamburger steak ($8.50) and since I was there, I thought, oh well I might as well order something for myself also. So I ordered what Kahuku is mainly known for, their Kahuku Garlic Shrimp ($12).
Tita's is an outside diner consisting of 2 large wooden picnic table. The menu is posted near the ordering window. As I gazed over the menu, I thought, awww man I should have ordered the combo shrimp & kalbi. Â The best part is they also sell burgers and fries which is great if you have kids (and a hubby) like mine who doesn't really eat shrimp. Cheeseburger and Fries $3.50 DEAL!
So about 5 minutes later, we get our food. Giovanni's garlic shrimp scampi is tasty. Famous Shrimp Truck's garlic sauce is delicious. Tita's Garlic Shrimp is heavenly!! I wasn't even that hungry but I ended up eating the whole plate which came with one scoop of Tuna Mac salad and 12pcs of shrimp laying on a bed of rice which was perfect for the garlic sauce to soak on. Tita's shrimp is plump, cooked perfectly where you can either eat the whole thing with the skin, or you can peel it off. Â My son's plate came with 2 homemade hamburger patties with a load of onions and gravy. Â He could only eat one and half of the patties. Â
The workers were truly friendly. Â After eating I went up to the lady behind the counter to compliment them and the cooks. Â She was gracious and asked me where I was from, and I said "Ummm I'm from Kalihi, Home of the Governors!". (You've got to know about High School football to understand this) "HAHA" We both laughed and with a genuine smile, she says "That's okay we're all family!" Â I agree!! Â
This place is truly a gem. Â I'm surprised there are no lines, or maybe I just came at a perfect time. Â But if you're used to eating at Giovanni's or at the Famous Shrimp Truck, give this place a try. Â Guarantee you won't be disappointed.
By far my best garlic shrimp meal in NS. Portions will last you for both lunch and dinner and the servers are supremely sweet.
I think my picture pretty much says it all, but seriously get the garlic shrimp. Your taste buds will thank you for it.
Do Try:
garlic shrimp platter
Tip:
They're open early for breakfast, but they don't server their lunch menu before 11am. Come for omelettes and if there's room stay for the shrimp.
Also the toast is huge, HUGE. One slice will be plenty.
If you are Canadian, love the CFL and love great food then you may think you've gone to heaven when you arrive here.
Tita's Grill is owned and operated by legendary  Jr. Ah You who played defensive end with the Montreal Alouettes for nine seasons (1972-1981), winning two Grey Cup championships in 1974 and 1977. Ah You won the Grey Cup Most Valuable Player (Defence) in the 1974 championship game, was a CFL All-Star in two seasons (1976 &  1979). Ah You's jersey #77 is one of seven retired by the Alouettes when he was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
"Ah You Hungry" is the slogan on the road side grill's sign ... And you better be because the food is to die for. Jr's entire family runs the joint and provides catering services to local found greatness like the infamous Polynesian Cultural Centre.
Jr. can sometimes  be found out back baking Hawaiian bread --- this bread melts in your mouth. I have seriously never had anything like it.
The traditional loco moco is fit for a king and could probably feed the king's village. Â
My friend and I shared the loco moco wish consisted of:
3 scoops rice. 3 hamburger patties topped with brown gravy. Pasta salad. Cabbage salad and of course a piece of toasted and buttered freshly baked bread.
Coming back another day we had the daily special which was baby back ribs, 1/2 a dozen (locally grown) garlic prawns, rice and two salads. Easily devoured -- not even a morsel of rice left. Finished with special chocolate cake featured in the region.
If choosing something off the menu proves challenging then simply scope out the dishes of the other guests who line the outdoor picnic tables.... This may help or it may cause you to have to return a second or even third time like we had too!
Thank you Jr. and family for a great food and a wonderful experience.
A must see, stop and eat location when visiting Oahu. Â Take a trip out of Waikiki, head to the north shore and don't eat anything till you get to Tita's!
Cheers from Canada!
This place is great! Â The garlic shrimp is cooked to perfection - plump, juicy and perfectly garlicky. Who needs all you can eat when you come here? Â The chicken teriyaki plate is overflowing with chicken. Â I thought I stopped at Costco and picked up a tray of chicken thighs. The teriyaki flavor is great without being overwhelming. Â The chicken is also cooked to perfection. Â
Get here early, though. Â They close at 7, but run out of many things before 6:30.
4 stars for what it is - a great local spot with no pretense. Â Perfect. Â Much better than the touristy spots. Â The garlic shrimp was indeed very tasty as were the kalbi ribs. Â Be sure to grab lots of napkins when you get the shrimp - peeling them is a trial but well worth the effort. Â The people working there were very nice and happy to discuss their favorites.
Definitely worth a visit when you are out driving around the island - make a special trip and you won't be sorry. Â Unless you insist on tablecloths and the like.
Beware the location on the yelp map is wrong. Â Tita's is about 2 more miles SouthEast on 83.
This place was amazing. The Garlic Shrimp were out of this world and they really showed us some Hawaiian hospitality. Try the banana bread and leave with a loaf of their white bread for only $5... regular store bought bread just doesn't compare and costs about the same.
We returned for breakfast because it was so good and were amazed by the portion size. I had the Moco Loco (or was it Loco Moco?) Which was huge and enough for two meals. My friends got omelets and the french toast, which looked mighty fine to me. Definitely worth the trip.
BTW They close at 7pm, just like every other place in Hawaii, so get there early. .
Spicy garlic shrimp and regular garlic shrimp are tastier and bigger than some other joynts nearby. Service was super friendly and genuine. Come at least a hour before they close if you want to order from the full menu, because like a lot of places things wind down about a half hour before closing.
Review Source:great place awesome food but so far far far away! Â food is great had hamburger steak cooked perfect (well done) with gravy and onions to top off. Â I did not care for the mac salad since it had some tuna fish in it. Â The bread is super ono next time i will ask for it to be grilled instead of it just being buttered. Â The loaf of fresh bread is so cheap too $5.00 only. Â You cannot leave without any.
Then to top it off uncle comes out serving cake and that cake is great!
This little place deserves 5 stars. Â
Went there for lunch today while going on an around-the-island cruise. Â Friend of mine heard about it from co-workers so we stopped here.
We ordered a garlic shrimp plate + kalbi plate. Â Both plates came with a generous serving of rice and a scoop of mac salad. Â The shrimp is definitely a step above neighboring Giovanni's, and we will definitely return. Â I love that they give you a slice of dobash cake just for visiting them, thats true aloha spirit. Â
Theres TONS of seating (in the shade!), you will see us again, Tita's!
Honestly, you could come here for the fresh made bread on it's own. It's thick, fluffy, buttery and flaky all at once. It goes great with their breakfast platters, which I tried out on my way home from the North Shore while looking for a quick bite to eat.
I got a platter with eggs over medium on a bed of rice (because everything in Hawaii comes over rice) and bacon. The eggs and rice were good, nothing out of the ordinary, but the bacon was definitely undercooked, and as a bit of a bacon snob, I was a little disappointed. I went for a hard run that morning on the beach and wanted a fatty treat! It's all good though, because when I dipped that fresh baked bread into my egg yolks, I was in eggy heaven.
The service here was OK...not overly friendly, unless you are a local. I did have a hilarious experience watching a tourist back their car into a pole while dining - this type of excitement always adds to the experience.
We tried this place and Giovanni's Shrimp truck back to back (one plate of shrimp at Giovanni's, then drove 2 blocks down to this place). Comparing both of the places, this place trumps Giovanni's. Shrimp here are bigger and tastier, the sauce and seasoning were too strong to cover up the sweetness of the shrimp, and the size are so much bigger than Giovanni's. Also, try their slice of home made bread, amazing size for just $1, and tastes awesome. Skip Giovanni's, drive 2 blocks down the road and you'll love this place! Did I also say this is a dollar cheaper than Giovanni's and less of a wait?
Review Source:Review is solely on the shrimp.
Hit this place up on recommendation from our food friend which claimed it trumped Gio and Macky's. It's a little off the beaten path from North Shore but I have to say... WELL WORTH IT!
The shrimp here is a perfect combination of Macky's and Gio being flavorful with plump quality shrimp. It's not too overly garlicky as Gio and def not as bland as Macky's. It's also around the same price and amount as the other two.
The place was deserted when we arrived so this has not hit mainstream yet but I HIGHLY recommend making the drive here to try it out.
They also gave us some chocolate cake for free as dessert! Now that's service =)
I dont have a lot of time to write a full review right now but, Â I just gotta say....
KILLA MOCO!!!! Â is KILLA
and by KILLA I mean in quantity and quality.
2 homemade hamburger patties on a bed of rice 2 fried eggs on that and smothered with gravy. Â BUT WAIT! Â Now, they add 4 pcs portugese sausage AND 2 pcs spam AND Mac salad. Â Wheeee haaa. Â Im a fan.
If you are ever on the North Shore you gotta check out Titas Grill. Â
AND
IF you time it right.....you might get a piece of DELICIOUS Chocolate cake...on the house.
Wow, I feel the aloha here! We were starving, I mean "looking at each other as possible chow" starving! We were told about this place from some locals and decided to check it out.
The first thing you notice is the service. Everyone there is so friendly and sweet. After we placed our order, which we almost ordered one of each, they gave us each a slice of cake, just cause. Since we were starving we scarfed it. Next the food came out fast and delicious. Nice, since we were starving. I got the grilled chicken plate lunch and hubby got the cheeseburger with garlic fries. My meal rocked along with the garlic fries, but the cheeseburger was meh. Kinda of small but still good flavor. Stick to the plate lunches, garlic fries, garlic shrimp for maximum enjoyment. They make all their food here from scratch including the buns. The mac salad ROCKS!! Get two orders of that! It does have tuna in it, for those who must know.
After we ate they called us to the window and just gave us two slices of homemade buttered bread. How sweet! We left there full with good food and aloha all for $20.
This is the best place ever. I am considering moving here just to be near it. We had lunch here yesterday and had to come back today. The owner handed out free chocolate cake to everyone who was eating today. Everyone is super friendly and the food is probably the best thing me and hubby have ever tasted. The garlic shrimp is out of control. Do yourself a favor and just take the trip out. You'll be extremely happy that you did.
Review Source:During our drive around the island we happened upon Tita's Grill. It was lunchtime and the smell of grilled chicken filled the air. Â There were already many cars parked around this corner side grill. Any true foody would know that these are sure signs of a great eating establishment. We stopped and as we walked up to the ordering window these was a large sheet pan of delicious looking chocolate cake sitting on one of the outdoor tables. Before we could order our food we were handed generous servings of warm cake. Wow, how's this for hospitality?! We proceeded to order our food ( barbecue ribs, rice and macaroni salad. Each was delicious. I am normally not a macaroni salad fan but I ate every bit of my creamy salad! We were offered huge sliced of Polynesian
Sweet bread that was slathered with garlic butter as was every other patron. Junior Ah You greeted everyone with kindness and passion for people. This thing plus great food make this a must stop destination if you happen upon the North Shore of Hawaii.
Thank you for showing this mainlander such hospitality. It's no wonder you are celebrating your number one rating on Trip Advisor. Well earned!
It's tough for me to justify leaving 5 stars on a single visit to a place, but these folks went above and beyond to deserve the rating.
First off, I should jump to the point about the food: Â My wife and I were looking to get a small meal to aid us in our whirlwind drive around Oahu and opted for the shrimp plate. Â Without hesitation, I can say that the shrimp they served us were the best we have ever had, and we're both seafood nuts (I was sure to tell them this, as well). Â I can only hope the rest of their menu is as startlingly good as the shrimp, but I have a hard time believing it would fall short.
Second point is the service and friendliness. Â The gal behind the counter was super sweet, helpful, and quite patient. Â Any more when I go to restaurants, I almost feel like I am bothering the servers and staff by asking them to simply do what they're supposed to be doing. Â Here, I felt quite the opposite - just pure hospitality. Â Moments later, while sitting at one of the tables awaiting our food, we see this hulking mountain of a man walking directly at us wielding an enormous tray of cake and a smile as big and bright as the sun. Â He proceeds to sit down directly across from us and strike up a conversation with us while serving us generous (and free) pieces of cake, which he later informs us are part of a customer appreciation gesture. Â After a short bit, he is off and getting to know other customers, offering them thanks as well. Â Let me just say that this guy would be intimidating as hell if he didn't have such an amazingly huge and sincere grin. Â
I don't want to detract from other roadside stops along the way, but I can say for certain that if a person is in dire need of some killer shrimp while buzzing up the coast, they would be hard pressed to find something of this caliber anywhere else.
On my never ending quest for Pastrami sandwiches, my Yelp search led me to Tita's in the quiet town of Kahuku. Located directly adjacent to Kahuku High School off of Kamehameha Hwy, this place is a gem of a find.
I settled on the Pastrami sandwich, while my significant other could not resist the smell of the Shrimp coming from the kitchen. The ordering counter is so cool, it looks like an old school grass shack and you order through a screen. The workers were all friendly, definitely felt the Aloha.
After a short wait, we set up shop on one of the many tables out front, complete with chickens mingling about to keep my son company. My first impression of my sammie was WHOA! That thing was huge! The bread was super thick sized buttered and perfectly grilled, it almost looked like french toast. On the inside were big pieces of grilled Pastrami, grilled onions, and thousand island dressing. It was awesome to say the least, and I could only finish half of it. If I could change one thing about it, maybe less bread and more meat? Still @ $6.75 you can't go wrong!
My gf's Shrimp plate in her opinion was better than all the Shrimp trucks on the North Shore, and that's saying a lot. The shrimp itself were the Jumbo kine, not them puny little ones you get at some places. Sauteed perfectly in butter and garlic and just the right amount, with rice and an awesome tuna macaroni salad, I couldn't disagree with her. And it was cheaper too!
It's too bad we live all the way in town, or we'd be grinding at Tita's every week! Â
ALOHA!
Two things I can absolutely respect:
1. People who take the time to make good food.
2. People who take the time to help out their community.
And when someone takes the time to do both, I gotta take time out myself to give this person props. While Tiki's is out craftng some of the best local plates on the island, they open up their restaurant to the students at the nearby high school and give them a place to study with the free tutoring program they signed up for. Most restaurants would probably never agree to something like this, but Tiki's understood that these kids needed a good, safe place to educate themselves and opened their doors to them instead of turning them away.
If that doesn't warm up your cold, dead heart, then lets warm up your stomach: Along with serving awesome community service, they also serve onolicious sandwiches, too! The grilled pastrami is one of the best you'll ever have, hands down. It's got a good wholesome flavor that will leave you more satisfied than an episode of Mister Roger's Neighborhood. They've also got a variety of savory rice plates for those times when you want to get down on some local grinds. Â
If you have mainlanders in town, then this is a perfect lunch pick when you holoholo up to the North. If your guests really want to get a feeling of what it's like to be local and living with aloha, there's no better place to show them than this small town atmosphere. Plus, you'll have the benefit of knowing that your money is going to someone who gives a damn about the kids of Kahuku and not some money-grubbing scrooge who counts his money all day.
** Note: I accidentally wrote this for the wrong Tita's Grill! Thank you Ctrl+C :D
I've been here several times and each time the food is so ono. Â The laulau, BBQ chicken and Killer Moco were all awesome. Â Huge portions, tasty food and friendly staff. Â The Killer Moco comes with your typical Loco Moco but includes portugese sausage, spam and hawaiian sweet bread. Â
If you're visting the north shore, you gotta stop by. Â Try the Poke at the Superette next door too.
I'm on Oahu for 10 days for work. I asked for a recommendation for a good place to eat lunch in the area from a local. She recommended Tita's Grill. I ordered the Shrimp Plate. They have a lot of traditional Hawai'ian food on the menu and great prices.
This was by far the best meal that I have had while here. The shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked. Fresh garlic and real butter over rice and traditional macaroni salad. When I saw how much shrimp was on the plate I first thought I could not eat it all....but it was so good forced myself! They make their own Polynesian bread that is great grilled or just with butter!
This is a "must do" if you come to Oahu!
The owner and his wife treated me like family and I enjoyed visiting with other patrons as well. A great experience!
Man I am so much a fan of the sandwiches here. They are so dang big. I could only eat half. Basically I had the sandwich starts off with 2 huge slices of Polynesian bread that is buttered and then grilled. Then pastrami, onions and sauce is added. It was so ono and filled up the whole plate lunch plate. Can't wait to go back to try other sandwiches.

ONO mac salad! After being greatly disappointed by Rainbow's I was somewhat skeptical, but I could smell the fresh grilled food and knew this would be good. Had the Shrimp Plate that came with 10 or so large garlic shrimp, well seasoned, not over garlic-y and deveined! Nothing turns me off shrimp like seeing the POO vein still in the shrimp.
Mac salad was a good portion size and more traditional style macaroni noodles, egg, mayo, and tuna served with 2 large scoops of rice. So ONO my dad had to stop back on the way back from Matsumoto's to get a box to go for dinner.
If you're looking for authentic and delicious Hawaiian food, this is the place. It's very affordable and they serve up HUGE portions. During my last trip to the island, I ate there THREE times! I tried the loco moco and teriyaki beef plate--both were out of this world.
But the true star on the menu is their fresh-baked Polynesian bread. For only $5, you can get a huge loaf of bread that they bake on-site daily. It was so good I brought several loaves all the way back to Texas for my family and friends. But call ahead to reserve your loaf because it usually goes fast.
I'm a customer for life. The people are friendly. The food is "ono" (that's Hawaiian for delicious). This will forever be one of my first stops each time I visit the island!
